The IMD has issued a red alert stating that heavy-to-very-heavy rain and extremely heavy rain are very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu and other districts of Telangana on Friday. For Saturday, July 20 as well, it has issued the same alert for the districts of Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad and others.

CM Reddy also announced Rs 5 Lakh ex-gratia to the kin of people who died in the floods. CM Reddy instructed authorities to respond quickly to the damage caused to the public. He also assured that the compensation will be increased for the loss of cattle, goats and sheep. According to the CMO, the State Government will submit a comprehensive report on flood damages to the Centre. CM Reddy will write a letter to the union government seeking immediate assistance and flood relief. He will appeal to centre to declare the floods in the state as <keyword id="21885536" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="national-calamity" source="keywords">national calamity</keyword>. He also ordered Collectors to set up a Call Centre in their respective districts. He further asked the officials to set up a system at the Command Control Center to deal with the emergency situation. He further asked the officials to take up the repair the damaged roads due to heavy rains and resolve power cut problems on a priority. Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with Telangana's CM Revanth Reddy on the phone and enquired about the flood situation in the heavy rain-hit areas and the damages caused by the floods, a release from the Telangana CMO said. Further, the CM explained to the Prime Minister that the Khammam district bore the brunt of heavy rains and suffered huge rain-related damages. PM Modi appreciated the state government machinery for maintaining high alert and preventing the loss of life, the release said. On the direction of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the Chief Secretary held a teleconference with the District Collectors, District Medical and Health Officers (DMHOs) and Superintendents of government general hospitals of <keyword id="4121902" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bhadradri-Kothagudem">Bhadradri-Kothagudem</keyword>, <keyword id="162512" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karimnagar">Karimnagar</keyword>, <keyword id="52990" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Khammam">Khammam</keyword>, Nalgonda, and Suryapet districts on <keyword id="8764262" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid">COVID</keyword> situation, tests, positivity rate and bed occupancy in the hospitals. The state Cabinet had earlier instructed the Health Secretary and the medical and health officials to visit places like Madhira, Satthupalli, Alampur, Gadwal, Narayanpet, Maktal, Nagarjuna Sagar, Kodad, and Huzurabad which are on state borders and where Corona spread is more to review the situation and take the necessary measures. Khammam continues to see the second highest number of daily cases in the state after Greater Hyderabad. On June 5, Khammam reported 172 cases, up from 144 the previous day. The daily count in Bhadradri Kothagudem district also went up to 120 from 110 on June 4. <keyword id="11398596" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="nalgonda-and-suryapet">Nalgonda and Suryapet</keyword> districts also reported large number of cases at 156 and 95, respectively on June 5. COVID-19: Telangana to make a special plan for Bhadradri-Kothagudem, Karimnagar, Khammam, Nalgonda and Suryapet districts

Eight medical colleges will become operational in <keyword id="68884" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="telangana" source="Orion">Telangana</keyword> from academic year 2022-23, state minister for health and finance <keyword id="5205409" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="t-harish-rao" source="Orion">T. Harish Rao</keyword> said on Sunday. One of these medical colleges has come up in tribal area Kothagudem in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. The minister said that despite the Centre's discrimination towards Telangana, Chief Minister <keyword id="11934689" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="k-chandrasekhar-rao" source="Orion">K. Chandrasekhar Rao</keyword> took the historic initiative to set up one medical college each in all 33 district. Harish Rao pointed out that in the last seven decades only five medical colleges were set up in Telangana but in the last eight years after formation of Telangana, 12 new medical colleges were sanctioned. Sixteen new medical colleges are being set up, making it one medical college per district. The minister claimed that Telangana made several representations to the Centre for medical colleges but not a single medical college was sanctioned. He said while Telangana was not sanctioned even one medical college, Uttar Pradesh got as many as 27 new medical colleges and Madhya Pradesh got 19 colleges. He pointed out that a total of 157 medical colleges were sanctioned in all the states. Rama Rao</keyword> and union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya were recently engaged in a war of words over the medical colleges issue. Hyderabad, July 15 () An exchange of fire took place betweenmembers of banned outfit CPI(Maoist) and police personnel in Telangana's Bhadradri-Kothagudem district on Wednesday morning, following which an extensive search operation was launched to nab the ultras who fled. The exchange of fire (EoF) occurred in the Mallepallitogu forest area at 9 am and on noticing police movement, the Maoists numbering around 30, escaped leaving behind their goods, Bhadradri-Kothagudem District Superintendent of Police Sunil Dutt said. He said 500 personnel in 25 teams were conducting search operations in Manuguru forest area following a tip off that Maoists sneaked into Telangana from neighbouring Chhattisgarh, when the incident occurred. Hyderabad, Aug 17 (IANS) Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao on Monday reviewed the rain and flood situation in the state and directed the officials to undertake rescue and relief operations on a war footing, wherever necessary. He directed the official machinery to be on high alert as the state was experiencing heavy rainfall and floods and take the necessary measures to prevent any loss to property or lives. As heavy to very heavy rains may continue to lash the state in the next three to four days, all the precautionary measures should be put in place, he said, asking officials to set up control rooms wherever necessary and monitor the situation round the clock. The Chief Minister also made it clear that there was no dearth of funds to undertake relief measures. He said reports should be obtained on the situation on a daily basis from villages and urban areas and action should be taken on their basis. KCR, as Rao is popularly known, elicited district wise information and made suggestions on the measures to be taken in those areas. He held a special review on the situation prevailing in Warangal Urban, Warangal Rural, Karimnagar, Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Peddapalli, Bhoopal Pally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem and other districts where there was heavy rainfall and flash floods. "Due to the incessant rains for the past four to five days, tanks all over the state are full. Water is flowing into all the reservoirs. Rivers, canals and rivulets are overflowing. As on date, the situation is under control. But the coming three to four days are crucial. "There is a possibility of heavy rains due to the depression lying centred in northeast Madhya Pradesh, north Chattisgarh, and southeast Uttar Pradesh. Along with this, there is a possibility of a depression lying centred in the north Bay of Bengal on August 19. Moreover, there is heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of Rivers Godavari, Krishna, Tungabhadra, Pranahita, and Indravathi in the upper states. Due to all these factors, there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rains and major floods. Hence, the entire official machinery should be on high alert, assess the situation that develops in the coming days and make arrangements accordingly," he said. The Chief Minister said that heavy floods may occur in Godavari river and asked the officials to identify the low-lying villages and shift people from these areas to safer places. "If Godavari gets floodwater, Bhadrachalam town may face problems. Take measures that water does not stagnate in the town," he said. Asking the officials to set up special relief camps in the areas where there was danger from the floodwater, he directed the ministers and public representatives to stay wherever they are and monitor the relief measures. As heavy rain inundated Warangal, KCR asked ministers K.T. Under flak from various quarters for its poor testing, the Telangana government doubled the daily number of tests. During the last four days, over 1.90 lakh tests were conducted. A total of 16 government and 31 private laboratories are conducting RT-PCR/CBNAAT/TRUENAT types of tests while there are 1,076 rapid antigen test centres. However, the authorities have not been providing breakup of the type of tests conducted. The samples tested per million population mounted to 29,146 against a daily testing target of 5,600 per day as per the World Health Organisation (WHO) benchmark of 140 per million per day. The results of 1,176 samples were awaited. Health officials said the case fatality rate in the state came down further to 0.69 per cent against the national average of 1.84 per cent. Out of the total fatalities, 53.87 per cent had comorbidities. The number of cases in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) spiked on Wednesday with the increase in overall numbers. The state capital reported 475 cases against 295 the previous day. Medchal Malkajgiri and Rangareddy district abutting GHMC reported 204 and 247 new cases respectively. Sangareddy, another district bordering the state capital, saw 88 new cases. Outside the GHMC and surrounding districts, Nalgonda was the worst affected district with 190 new cases followed by Khammam with 161 cases, Warangal Urban with 139 cases, Nizamabad with 136 cases, and Karimnagar 127 cases. Jagtiyal reported 100 new infections, Bhadradri Kothagudem 95, Siddipet 88, Peddapalli 85 and <keyword id="364763" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mahabubabad">Mahabubabad</keyword> 60. During the last 24 hours, 1,060 people recovered from Covid, taking the total number of recoveries to 85,223. The state's recovery rate stands at 76.30 per cent against the national average of 75.92 per cent. The number of active cases in the state stands at 25,685 including 19,113 in home/institutional isolation. Age wise Covid positive details show that 65.3 per cent of those tested positive were in the age group of 21-50 years. Terming this as a susceptible age group, authorities have urged them not to go out unless absolutely necessary. They were advised to strictly exercise precautions like wearing face masks and maintain physical distancing. Among Covid positive cases, 24.71 per cent are above 51 years of age. About 10 per cent were aged below 20 years. Officials said 64.41 per cent of those tested positive were male, while the remaining 35.59 per cent were female. According to the media bulletin, out of 20,396 beds in the government-run hospitals, 17,958 beds were vacant.
