"It's a complete disaster," one said.</li><li>The men's world No. 1, <keyword id="55696" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Novak-Djokovic">Novak Djokovic</keyword>, is among those unhappy with the preparations, writing to the tournament's director, Craig Tiley, with a list of changes he wants.</li><li>Daniel Andrews, the head of the government in the state of Victoria, said: "People are free to provide lists of demands, but the answer is no."</li></ul><p><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/australian-open?r=US&amp;IR=TIR=T">The Australian Open</a>, tennis' first Grand Slam tournament of 2021, is descending into chaos before it has even begun with players complaining about quarantine, making demands to tournament organizers, and arguing on social media.</p><p>This year's tournament is operating under strict measures designed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, which include flying all players into Australia on chartered planes, enforcing strict time limits on players leaving their hotel rooms after arriving, and, in some cases, introducing total quarantines.</p><p><a href="https://www.insider.com/72-australian-open-players-quarantined-after-passengers-test-positive-2021-1">Seventy-two players are in mandatory two-week quarantine</a> after positive coronavirus tests emerged on three separate inbound flights to Melbourne on Saturday.</p><p>One positive test was recorded on a flight from Doha, Qatar; another was recorded on a flight from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; and two more were recorded on a flight from Los Angeles.</p><p>Players who arrived on the flights - including the past Australian Open winners Victoria Azarenka and Angelique Kerber - are now having to isolate in their hotel rooms for two weeks and are not allowed to train outside.</p><p>The first round of the tournament is set to begin February 8, meaning quarantined players will have just over a week to practice.</p><p>"It's a complete disaster," Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut, another player forced to quarantine, said, <a href="https://tennishead.net/its-a-complete-disaster-spanish-star-blasts-australian-open-quarantine-conditions/">according to Tennis Head</a>.</p><p>"You can work in the room, but it's not the same," he said. "I feel very, very tight, and I cannot imagine staying two weeks like this. It's really, really tough. It's a tough situation and we have got to do whatever we can to make it as fair as possible for those players that are in lockdown."</p><h2>The rest of the players are in a softer lockdown, but that still hasn't stopped complaints</h2><p>Those who aren't in hard quarantine are still restricted in their movements before the tournament, allowed to leave their hotels for only five hours a day.</p><p><a href="https://twitter.com/bbc5live/status/1351437597176946690?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1351437597176946690%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bbc.co.uk%2Fnews%2Fworld-australia-557134533453">According to the British player Katie Boulter,</a> that time is split between two hours on the court, an hour and a half in the gym, an hour to eat, and 30 minutes to travel between the hotel and tournament facilities.</p><p>The men's world No. 1, <a href="https://www.insider.com/category/novak-djokovic">Novak Djokovic</a>, who is among those allowed to train outside the hotel, is leading those speaking out against the limitations.</p><p><a href="https://twitter.com/fermurciego/status/1350745129221582851" target="_blank" rel="noopener">According to the tennis journalist Fernando Murciego</a>, Djokovic wrote a letter to Tiley to demand he shorten quarantine periods, allow players to see their coaches, and move as many players as possible to private houses with tennis courts.</p><p><a href="https://twitter.com/NickKyrgios/status/1351131106993725443">Nick Kyrgios called Djokovic a "tool" for making the demands</a>, which were abruptly shot down by Daniel Andrews, the premier of the state of Victoria.</p><p>"People are free to provide lists of demands, but the answer is no," <a href="https://twitter.com/wadeshipard/status/1350949853019385857">Andrews said</a>.</p><p>"And that was very clearly put, that was very clearly laid out beforehand. So the notion that there's been any change, the notion that people weren't briefed, I think that argument really has no integrity whatsoever."</p><p>He added: "They were all briefed on that before they came. And that was the condition on which they came. You really had to serve and volley on grass," Federer said. "Today you can not serve and volley once on grass and win Wimbledon."</p><p>Though Federer has won 20 Grand Slam titles he has never held all four majors at the same time, though he has come close. Rafael Nadal, too, has 17 Grand Slam titles but has never won each major consecutively.</p><p>"That's what I'm saying, it could happen more frequently. That's what we're seeing. I won three, made the finals once. Rafa, I think he was close many times. Novak has been extremely close, has done it once, now maybe going for another one.</p><p>"So it shows that it is more possible today," Federer said, before eventually praising Djokovic. "But the feat, still regardless of the conditions are easier, is still and would be an unbelievable one. Credit to him."</p><p>Federer and Djokovic are currently in Florida for the 2019 Miami Open.</p><p>They are both in the second round of the competition. <p>The Australian media is <a href="http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/tennis/sydney-international-champion-bernard-tomic-on-a-high-heading-into-australian-open/story-fnddkbrz-1226553074066">going wild over him</a>, but to make a deep run Tomic will have to beat <keyword id="93" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Roger-Federer">Roger Federer</keyword> in the third round. And over the weekend, Federer <a href="http://www.tennis.com/pro-game/2013/01/federer-tomic-shouldnt-look-too-far-ahead/45966/#.UPQQBugs2Wg">threw a heaping pail of cold water over Tomic-mania</a>.</p>
<p>Here's what he told reporters when he was asked about a potential third-round match with Tomic (via <a href="http://www.tennis.com/pro-game/2013/01/federer-tomic-shouldnt-look-too-far-ahead/45966/#.UPQQBugs2Wg">Matt Cronin of Tennis.com</a>):</p>

Roger Federer Is In A Passive-Aggressive Feud With A 20-Year-Old Australian Player

<p>Amid <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/australia-is-hotter-than-its-been-in-100-years-2014-1">searing heat</a>, an Australian ball boy fainted during a first-round <keyword id="22576" type="SPORT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Australian-Open">Australian Open</keyword> match between Milos Raonic and Daniel Gimeno-Traver.</p>
<p>Gimeno-Traver came to the boy's rescue, lowering him to the court so he could get medical attention. After being treated by the medical staff, <a href="http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/commuters-and-tennis-face-delayed-as-heatwave-power-outages-hit-public-transport/story-fni0fit3-1226801011116">the boy was able to walk off the court on his own power</a>.</p>
<p>Despite his good karma, Gimeno-Traver ended up losing in four sets.</p>

<p>Ball boys aren't the only ones struggling in the 108-degree heat. Several players retired early from their matches on Tuesday, including Australia's own Bernard Tomic.</p>
<p>A Canadian player, Frank Dancevic, collapsed in the middle of his match. He <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/australiaandthepacific/australia/10571026/Australias-record-heatwave-melting-bottles-and-fainting-ball-boys.html">told reporters after the match</a> that the conditions were "inhumane":</p>

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table full"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/559bfb10ecad04b56dfc8f85-1200-900/nick-kyrgios-3.jpg" border="0" alt="nick kyrgios"><p class="source"><span>Clive Brunskill/Getty Images</span></p></img></div><p></p></div></div>Australian swimming legend Dawn Fraser is under heavy criticism after <a href="http://mobile.news.com.au/sport/tennis/olympic-legend-dawn-fraser-launches-racist-attack-on-nick-kyrgios/story-fnu2pjj2-1227431907759">suggesting 20-year-old Aussie tennis player Nick Kyrgios should go back to where his parents came from</a> after his antics in a fourth-round loss at Wimbledon.<p>Kyrgios lost to Richard Gasquet in four sets after <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/nick-kyrgios-stops-playing-at-wimbledon-2015-7">bizarrely tanking a game in the second set</a>.</p><p>In <a href="http://mobile.news.com.au/sport/tennis/olympic-legend-dawn-fraser-launches-racist-attack-on-nick-kyrgios/story-fnu2pjj2-1227431907759">an interview on the morning TV show Today</a>, Fraser was asked about Kyrgios and fellow tennis Australian star Bernard Tomic, both of whom are the sons of immigrants.</p><p>"They should be setting a better example for the younger generation of this country. This great country of ours," Fraser said. "If they don't like it, go back to where their fathers or their parents came from. We don't need them in this country to act like that."</p><p>That "go back to where their parents came from" line was <a href="http://www.smh.com.au/sport/tennis/dawn-fraser-v-nick-kyrgios-stoush-gets-social-media-all-fired-up-20150707-gi72br.html?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=nc&amp;eid=socialn:twi-13omn1677-edtrl-other:nnn-17/02/2014-edtrs_socialshare-all-nnn-nnn-vars-o&amp;sa=D&amp;usg=ALhdy28zsr6qiq">immediately decried as racist</a>. Kyrgios himself called it "blatantly racist" in a Facebook post.</p><p>In it, he compares the words used to describe him at Wimbledon ("brat," "disrespectful," "spoilt," "arrogant") with the words used to describe Fraser ("Australian legend"). The live-to-air clip was part of a larger un-broadcasted interview however this does not condone what was said.</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"My intended message, which was not delivered as articulately as it could have been - was on a purely sporting level rather than meant as an attack on Nick's ethnicity. Nick's representing Australia and I want to see him representing Australian tennis in the best possible light."</p><p>But before she released that statement <a href="http://www.smh.com.au/sport/tennis/wimbledon-2015-dawn-fraser-defends-comments-on-nick-kyrgios-as-not-racist-20150707-gi6pi6.html">she told Fairfax Media that her comments weren't actually racist</a>.</p><p>"I said, 'If they don't want to be Australians then maybe they should go back to the country where their parents come from'.
