New Delhi, Apr 21 () <keyword id="82073" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Berger-Paints">Berger Paints</keyword> on Tuesday said it is honouring all hiring commitments given to lateral candidates and campus recruits prior to the imposition of nationwide lockdown to fight COVID-19 pandemic. The paints major also said it has decided against any involuntary furloughs or organizational restructuring that may lead to downsizing of headcount and consequent loss of livelihood during this time of widespread uncertainty due to coronavirus pandemic. "Berger has decided that all offers rolled out to campus recruits across India shall be honoured and no offer shall be revoked," the company said in a statement. In light of the uncertainty in the industry on account of the lockdown, campus recruits are being engaged with continuously to assure them of the sanctity of their job offer, it added. Similarly, the company said, "All hiring commitments given to lateral candidates prior to the nationwide lockdown being announced are being honoured and they are being paid salaries with effect from their pre-committed date of joining, even if the same falls within the lockdown window thereby preventing them from actually joining the organization." It further said salaries of all permanent or fixed-term employees have been disbursed in full and on time. "The company has also engaged with its service providers to ensure that salaries of their associates who are deployed in its facilities are also disbursed in a timely manner so that employees do not face any financial hardships on account of the current situation," it added. Commenting on the company's commitment, Berger Paints Managing Director and CEO Abhijit Roy said, "We are like one big but closely knit family and would fight this battle together. These are challenging times and might require small sacrifices from the entire family to sail through the crisis." He further said, "However, there won't be any retrenchments or involuntary furloughs. We are in this together and would emerge stronger as we come out of the COVID-19 crisis." The company said all new joinees are being "on boarded remotely from the comfort of their homes using conferencing tools such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams". Berger Paints will honor all new recruitments and won't be firing even during lockdown

Giving wings to its overseas expansion, paint major <keyword id="106317" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Asian-Paints">Asian Paints</keyword> Limited has forayed into the Indonesian market by launching PT Asian Paints Indonesia. The new company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of <keyword id="2704330" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Berger-International-Limited">Berger International Limited</keyword>, Singapore, which in turn is an indirect subsidiary of the Asian Paints. 
	 
	“We will also set up a manufacturing plant with a capacity of 24,550 ton in the country. However, this will be executed only after the company receives the requisite regulatory approvals,” the company told the National Stock Exchange (NSE) in a letter dated January 29, 2015. 
	 
	The company has also applied for another approval for incorporating another company in Indonesia. “We have also put in a second application for investment approval with Badan Koordinasi Penanaman Modal (BKPM), the Investment Coordinating Board of Republic of Indonesia, for incorporating a second company in Indonesia which will engage in import of finished goods including decorative paints, other coatings and related items for sale in Indonesia. BKPM has issued a principal license approving the said investment application,” added the company. 
	 It should be noted that other paint companies have been looking at expansion in foreign markets especially in the Southeast Asian markets. Interestingly, earlier this month, another paint major, <keyword id="1430790" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nerolac-Paints">Nerolac Paints</keyword> has entered into a joint venture with Maharaja Group in Sri Lanka.

Berger provides financial support for paint contractors amid lockdown

New Delhi, Apr 28 () Leading paint makers such as Kansai Nerolac Paints, AkzoNobel India and Berger Paints have come forward to extend financial help to painters, who are passing through a rough phase during the ongoing lockdown.The companies are providing financial aid to their painting contractors, most of whom are daily wagers and an important part of their business ecosystem, through crowd-funded endowment fund to direct cash transfer in their accounts.Kansai Nerolac Paints said it has announced to set up a crowd-funded endowment fund for its community of painters in association with India's largest and most trusted donation platform 'Give India'.The amount collected through this platform will be used to provide financial aid of up to Rs 7,000 each to those painters suffering from Coronavirus. Nerolac will also make a contribution of Rs 5,00,000 to set up the fund."The support and commitment of our painter community has helped us attain success through the years. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the lives of millions of daily-wage earners, including painters, bringing many under severe financial stress," Kansai Nerolac Paints Executive Director Anuj Jain said in a statement.He further said, "Through our association with a renowned platform such as 'Give India', we would like to urge citizens to contribute as much as they can for the safeguard of painter community. The amount collected will be used for the care of painters affected by this virus."Last month, Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd had also announced an early disbursement of funds to its painter community falling under the Nerolac Premium Painter Pragati (NPP Pragati) Programme wherein over 30,000 painters benefited from the initiative, the company said.Meanwhile, AkzoNobel India has also announced to extend support to over 12,000 painters in the wake of COVID-19 outbreak by providing an out of turn pay-out through the annual loyalty programme – Colour Guru.As part of this initiative, direct online transfers are being made to the bank accounts of over 12,000 painting contractors."Painting contractors are a significant part of our ecosystem and their livelihood has been impacted by the pandemic. However, post GST application, the organised players are recapturing market from unorganised players with share of organised players increasing to about 80 per cent now," it said.The top players in the organised sector are Asian Paints Limited, Kansai Nerolac Paints, Berger Paints India and AkzoNobel India -- which together account for about 68 per cent of the market share, it added.India is presently going through an extended lockdown period till May 3 as the government tries to curb the spread of coronavirus pandemic. The Indian paint industry, which was growing 1.6-1.8 times the pace of gross domestic product until a few years ago, now expands at twice the speed of <keyword id="35050" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="gdp">GDP</keyword> as consumers shift to branded products.

Construction of new houses for the smart cities will improve cement demand. The slowdown has resulted in subdued demand over the past two years. But the likely increase in demand will not only give volume growth, but should give pricing power, which would result in higher profitability.

	UltraTech remains the safest bet, given its presence across the country. Ramco Cements is the most efficient among peers. The southern region has seen the lowest cement demand, which has resulted in lower valuations. However, this could change if demand picks up.

With the new houses, demand for housing finance is also expected to improve. The industry expects housing finance companies to show more than 20% growth in net profits in this fiscal year. 
 
Indiabulls Housing Finance, due to its small base and tie-up with major banks, may continue to grow at a higher pace. 
 
In fiscal 2014, its loan book grew 20% year-on-year.

	In addition, post its reverse merger in 2013, the company became a housing finance company, which will result in lower cost of funds. What makes LIC Housing Finance a likely winner is strong brand recognition. The shares of Indiabulls Housing Finance and LIC Housing Finance are trading at a price-to-book value of 2.2 and 2.1, respectively. Considering the expected growth, these stocks look attractive at this level.
 
 
HSIL and Kajaria Ceramics 
 
Despite the slowdown over the past few years, the sanitary-ware and ceramics businesses of these companies have grown at more than 20% and that too without compromising on the profitability or operating margins. HSIL manufactures bathroom products while Kajaria is mainly into tiles manufacturing.

	Both have strong dealer networks across India. They have both added new capacities recently and have plans to expand further to cater to rising demand. Shares of HSIL have given a return of 159% year-to-date and Kajaria Ceramics 70%. Analysts continue to be bullish on these stocks.
 
 
Havells India and Orient Paper 
 
Construction of new cities will result in huge demand for cables, switchgear, lights, bulbs and fans. While Havells has all these in its portfolio, Orient Pa-per (Orient Electrical) is one of the oldest fan manufacturing companies and its other product categories include lighting, water heaters and kitchen appliances.
