The popular destination hosts millions of tourists every year and for some, it is just a couple hours of drive away. However, international travellers don't find it that easy to get to the destination, as per a new PTI report. The report says that even though Goa is increasingly a popular choice for international travellers, it requires government support to make it more accessible to foreigners. In a media statement, the department said that charter flights from key markets like Russian cities Moscow and Ekaterinburg, London, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan, support international arrivals. A Polish charter flight is also set to arrive in the coastal state on November 8. The statement added that this international interest extends beyond Goa’s iconic beaches, with tourists increasingly exploring areas like Dudhsagar Falls and scenic hinterlands. To further boost connectivity, Goa is collaborating with airlines and seeking government support to improve flight routes, creating a more globally connected tourism landscape. "However, establishing robust direct international connectivity requires further support from the Government of India, which we are actively seeking to make Goa an even more attractive, accessible, and globally connected destination," a spokesperson said. He added that after pandemic disruptions, Goa’s international tourism is rebounding, with over 450,000 foreign arrivals recorded in 2023. Alongside domestic visitors, totaling over 8 million this year, the state’s tourism sector is also thriving. Addressing challenges like limited direct flights, Goa’s tourism officials are working to secure new airline agreements, ensuring an easier journey for international visitors. He also talked about the challenges that the tourism destination is facing, including limited connectivity by air. "Goa does face some challenges. For example, limited scheduled international air connectivity. The state government is working closely with the Centre to relook at point of call and additional seat entitlement for Goa, to establish more robust international connections," he said. The same monthly rent for a small one-bedroom apartment in Melbourne, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.forbes.com/advisor/au/property/average-rent-price-in-australia/">over $2000,</a> gets me the equivalent of a two-bedroom villa in Bali with a little pool.Local, non-touristy food is also much more affordable. In Australia, I've had to pay about 30% more than the price of food in Bali.I've lived all around the island, from Menjangan in West Bali to Amed on the North Coast, to the Gilis. Outside Kuta, an area <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/indonesia-halts-new-hotel-construction-in-bali-to-combat-overtourism-2024-9">overrun with tourists</a>, visitors can experience what people often call Bali — an Island of the Gods.I was surprised to find gyms and restaurants rivaling Melbourne and coworking spaces that made my old office look like a cheap tech bros warehouse conversion. The coworking spaces I use in Bali are so large and inclusive. They have weight-floating classes, F45 training, yoga, a massive kitchen around a pool, ice baths, saunas, coworking spaces, and meeting rooms.<h2 id="21f21db2-291d-4343-a533-8b761d1a34db">Finding a job that allowed me to work in Bali had its challenges</h2>I initially had a job in Melbourne that required me to be in the office for three out of five days. I was reprimanded for using my annual leave to work from Bali for two weeks. This led me to quit after a year and switch to my current employer, a Shopify optimization agency, in August 2023.My current job understands my remote work lifestyle and allows me to work from anywhere. The tradeoff is that I occasionally have to jump on a 4:30 a.m. meeting.I was a full time salaried employee, but my boss is a legend, and I've negotiated my schedule down to three days a week. I don't need to clock in and out; we're a small, family-friendly team, and there's trust and faith.<h2 id="2c304220-1de2-4e39-b596-32181889acf8">Sometimes tourists can be disrespectful</h2><a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/overrated-things-not-to-do-in-bali-i-lived-there-2024-4">Tourist traps</a> like Seminyak and Canggu have become overcrowded and full of drunk, wild, crazy tourists and every other wannabe searching for the perfect wave.There are also the annoying wannabe Instagram models and OnlyFans influencers who stop traffic to take photos in the middle of the road and wear next-to-nothing — disrespecting the Balinese culture. Bali has a conservative culture, and people should dress modestly when in town or shopping at markets. Remote workers and ex-pats like myself value and respect local culture.<h2 id="f4cb9256-dfb5-4e09-938b-2752894f368c">It's been tough to find a work-life balance traveling as a remote worker</h2>One of the hardest things I've ever done was when I road-tripped through America, from Orange County to Savannah, Georgia, and the South. I drove five to six hours daily and had to pull into random restaurants and cafés, hoping the internet worked.I've had significant internet issues. I lived in Albania for a while, and the internet was terrible. I couldn't get any video calls to work. However, a solution I've found is purchasing an e-sim card wherever I travel.<h2 id="5f6e4fad-d8b2-4cd9-bfc5-f85cfd89a102">I miss being close to my family, but I don't miss Melbourne</h2>I don't miss Melbourne much, except for being close to family and friends. The Karnataka government is considering proposals to allow tents and <keyword id="21356640" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="alcohol-sales" source="keywords">alcohol sales</keyword> on the state's beaches, similar to <keyword id="19895061" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Goa" source="keywords">Goa</keyword>, in an effort to boost tourism. Speaking at the 'Connect 2024' event in <keyword id="19936741" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mangalore" source="keywords">Mangalore</keyword> on Wednesday, Rajendra K V, tourism department's director, emphasised that changes are necessary to attract tourists. "We need to relax restrictions on alcohol consumption along the beaches of Karnataka, which may bring more influx of tourists just like in the state of Goa," he added. According to him, to enhance safety and encourage people to spend more time at the beaches during the night, the department is contemplating the installation of additional lights along the coast. District officials have been instructed to identify government and private lands near beaches to promote <keyword id="23668481" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tent-tourism" source="keywords">tent tourism</keyword> in the state. Rajendra also revealed that a facilitation centre would soon be established to expedite approvals for tourism projects, including CRZ (<keyword id="20495401" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Coastal-Regulation-Zone" source="keywords">Coastal Regulation Zone</keyword>) permissions. The debris — sharp fiberglass in some cases — caused numerous beaches to close to swimmers on Tuesday and promoted local media to deploy full coverage as locals pitched in to help clean up.The litter came from Vineyard Wind, a clean energy project 15 miles off the coast of the nearby island of Martha's Vineyard. The turbines' blades measure more than 350 feet long, meaning damage to just one can leave a lot of trash.The company, which did not respond to a request for comment from Business Insider, said in a statement that the blade was damaged on Saturday. In a separate statement, it said it was deploying 35 people to help with the cleanup effort and that all debris was not toxic, though it did not elaborate on why the damage occurred. The first was<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/housing-market-crash-not-coming-supply-mortgage-rates-millenials-harvard-2023-6"> the 2008 recession,</a> where rock-bottom prices allowed developers to move in and buy open land."There'd be a few vacant lots, and then a house surrounded by trees and brush," he told Business Insider. The complaint said the serial number on the gun had been partially damaged. Authorities on Sunday said the bags contained ceramic tile and that officials also found a GoPro camera at the scene. Routh was held Sunday and appeared in court on Monday, where he was charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, both felony charges. Neither charge makes mention of an assassination attempt, though further charges may be pending. His bio on Signal, an encrypted messaging platform, read in part, "Civilians must change this war and prevent future wars," the Times reported. The former construction worker talked to the outlet in 2023 for a story about Americans traveling to Ukraine to aid in the war effort. At the time, the couple's property was separated from the Atlantic Ocean by three nearby properties, an acre of land, and a road.But after 36 years of land erosion, the ocean has swallowed up the neighboring homes and made the Carlin property a beachfront one.Three successive storms last winter ate away more of the couple's property, leaving their back porch just a short distance from the shoreline."It's about ready to go in," Carlin told the local paper. "It used to be a neighborhood, and you knew who lived where. And now, if you take a drive out there, there's not much to see."The couple had tried to donate the 1,700-square-foot home to a local affordable-housing nonprofit, but she said she had "no luck whatsoever."Then businessman Don Vaccaro, CEO of <a target="_blank" href="http://Ticketnetwork.com">TicketNetwork.com</a>, who already owns a neighboring property, offered to buy it at a steep discount: the final price was $200,000."Basically, the house may not last more than six months," Vaccaro told the Current.
