Footwear major <keyword id="19980586" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bata-india" source="keywords">Bata India</keyword> has received a notice from the <keyword id="19980587" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="state-tax-officer" source="keywords">State Tax Officer</keyword>, Anna Salai Assessment Circle, Chennai, amounting to Rs 60.56 crore, the company said in a filing to the bourses on Thursday. The notice dated December 27, 2023, pertains to several issues raised in a final audit report on December 25, for the 2018-19 financial year, according to the filing. The issues raised include differences in turnover on outward supplies in the monthly GST returns, differences in tax on outward supplies in the GSTR-9 &amp; GSTR-9C returns, excess <keyword id="19980589" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="input-tax-credit" source="keywords">Input Tax Credit</keyword> (<keyword id="19896958" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="itc" source="keywords">ITC</keyword>) availed, and <keyword id="19980588" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="itc-reversal" source="keywords">ITC Reversal</keyword> on credit note. The company said it initially received an audit notice on April 27, 2023, and submitted relevant documents in response. Bata India was given a personal hearing on January 10, 2024, to present its case and provide further information on the disputed issues, as per the filing. The company expressed confidence in its ability to defend the case before the authorities concerned. "It is believed that the company has a good case to defend the matters without any material financial impact," Bata India said. New Delhi, Nov 26 () Footwear maker Bata will continue its growth journey in India with the multi-retail channel approach along with e-commerce platform to reach out to as many customers as it can, said a top company official.
 The company, which has a retail network in 450 towns, is further expanding by adding new stores in smaller towns through franchise route.
 "Now we are using all three engines - our own stores, franchise partner store, which is a big drive for us in tier III &amp; IV, and multibrand outlets. On the top it would be our e-commerce channels, whether through bata.in or other marketplaces to get as many consumers as we can," Bata India CEO Sandeep Kataria told .
 The company last month said it will strengthen its presence by adding 500 stores in next five years, focusing mainly on small markets as it has identified tier II, III and IV cities where it has plans to broaden its sales network through the franchise model.
 "What has happened over time, that the brand image and the brand name was much bigger than our reach, as we were selling through our retail stores only in 450 towns," he said.
 "India is much bigger and the brand image is also bigger. So we decided to expand our reach to as many Indians and take advantage of our equities."
 According to Kataria, online channels are providing opportunities in multiple ways to reach consumers.
 "We can actually use the digital channels to increase the productivity of our stores and enhance the satisfaction to our consumers," said Kataria on the sidelines of an event organised by the Retailers Association of India.
 Besides, Bata is working hard to reconnect with the country's millennials.
 "We have a whole battery of brands in Bata as North Star, Bata Red Label, Marie Claire and Footin which talk to millenials. We do not have to mainly rely on Bata, the main brand," he said.
 "We are seeing the average age of the customers in Bata store going down. We have now more millennials than the past," he said.
 When asked whether Bata has any plans to introduce new brands from its global fold, he said the company is not very keen to do that.
 "There is a huge opportunity for us to play with the brands which we have here. So we are not very keen to bring a new brand," he said adding that the company has licence for manufacture and sale of several global brands as Hush Puppies, Naturalizer.

Bata to use multi-channel retail strategy to reach more customers

New Delhi, July 13 () Footwear major Bata India Ltd on Monday said it is going slow on new store openings in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic but will continue expanding into new towns through franchise route. Disclosing the impact of COVID-19 in a regulatory filing, Bata India said after the relaxation of lockdown it has so far reopened more than 1,200 of its 1,400 stores across the country but restrictions are in place on number of days and hours of operations. "All our office establishments, manufacturing plants and warehouses have started operations as per the respective state guidelines," the filing said. Bata India's revenue from operations for the quarter ended March 31, 2020 stood at Rs 619.70 crore, down by 9 per cent as compared to the corresponding period previous year "primarily due to suspension of the company's stores towards second half for the month of March 2020 as per government directives for COVID- 19". On its ability to maintain operations, the company said: "As we went into the Covid-19 scenario with stock in our hand, that stock is there and the requirement for the factories to produce is only limited." Commenting on the estimation of the future impact of the health crisis, the company said: "While the pandemic will have an impact on consumer behaviour and demand, we believe brands such as Bata are strong trust marks and with the investment in our quality over the years and safety in stores to build confidence, we will gain share as consumers tend to avoid risk post the crisis." It further said: "The company is going slow on new store openings but will continue expanding into newer towns via the franchise route." Strengthening its digital channel, Bata India said it has "also increased its focus on e-commerce channels and its own website as well. Additionally, we are using services like WhatsApp to stay in touch with consumers and enable omni-channel sales." The company said it is "recalibrating business operations with a strengthened product portfolio, a steady focus on cash conservation in the company and better online presence and services to ensure seamless shopping experiences for our consumers". It is working on various cost-optimisation measures, including rentals renegotiation, closure of unviable stores and digitalisation drive across the organisation to eliminate redundancies and bring efficiency in the value chain, Bata India added. New Delhi, Feb 6 () Leading footwear brand Bata India on Thursday reported a 14.75 per cent rise in its consolidated net profit to Rs 118.26 crore for the quarter ended December 2019 compared to Rs 103.05 crore in the year-ago period. Consolidated revenue from operations of the company stood at Rs 830.82 crore for the quarter under consideration against Rs 779.79 crore for the same period year ago, Bata India said in a filing to BSE. "Despite market headwinds and a pan-India cross-sectoral drop in consumer spending, Bata managed stable growth in Q3 2019-2020, improving its margins and EBIDTA," Bata India CEO Sandeep Kataria said. These results were due to company's continued focus on customer-centric portfolio including the new sneakers range, innovations in areas of comfort, design and materials, channel expansion in distribution business, modern trade and franchisee business, he added. "While new stores, renovations continued to elevate the store visual merchandising and consumer experience, we also focused on making operations more agile by investing in IT for the new age," Kataria said. India's largest shoemaker <keyword id="6361456" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bata">Bata</keyword> plans to foray into rural markets and small towns, which have less than 5 lakh population. Bata will expand through rural distributors and franchisees, for its next wave of growth. 
 
The company is currently developing a completely new line of merchandise to tap these unexplored markets, top company officials said. It plans to open 100 outlets in tier III and tier IV markets through the franchisee route. It will also tie up with wholesalers to sell <keyword id="21227" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="shoes">shoes</keyword> in rural shops. 
 
Bata has already piloted 20 such stores in smaller markets, said R Gopalakrishnan, managing director at Bata India. 
 
He also added that the company set up a separate rural division over the past six months, which is now piloting sales in villages across Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. 
 The unorganised market accounts for two-third of the $35 billion Indian <keyword id="23820" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="footwear">footwear</keyword> market. 
 
Bata India currently operates more than 1,400 shops, including 34 exclusive Hush Puppies stores and 21 Footin outlets. 
 
The company will also invest Rs 50 crore this year to set up more than 120 Bata stores and 20 Hush Puppies and Footin stores each.
