Several videos went viral on TikTok and other social media platforms in which Chinese facing the lockdowns are seen using Bappi Da's track to express their anger and frustration over the country's stringent zero-COVID policy. Composed by Lahiri and sung by <keyword id="37723" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="parvati-khan" source="Orion">Parvati Khan</keyword>, the hit song in China is recreated in Mandarin "Jie mi, jie mi", which translates into "Give me rice, give me rice". People in videos are seen showing empty vessels to indicate how they are deprived of essential food items during the lockdowns. It can be interpreted as a plea from the people to the government to lift its harsh restrictions. Last month the country's ruling Communist Party and its leader Xi Jinping signalled that there would be no easing up of the zero-Covid policy, calling it a "people's war to stop the spread of the virus". Across the country, around 200 lockdowns have been implemented in recent days - the majority of this affecting communities that have been marked as high or medium risk. Residents in different areas are subject to different rules, depending on whether they are in a low, medium or high-risk zone. Recently, droves of migrant workers attempted to flee the lockdown situation and return to their hometowns. Visuals shared online indicate that workers at Apple's largest assembly site in Zhengzhou broke out of the facilities to escape the 'zero-COVID' lockdown. Mithunda's Disco Dancer song 'Jimmy Jimmy' is China's Covid lockdown protest song

Veteran composer-singer <keyword id="12820" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bappi-Lahiri">Bappi Lahiri</keyword> has been hospitalised after testing Covid-19 positive, his daughter Rema Lahiri Bansal confirmed on Thursday. Rema issued a statement that read: "<keyword id="665299" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bappi-da">Bappi Da</keyword> has exercised immense precaution but has been detected with mild Covid symptoms. He has been admitted under the care of Dr Udwadia at Breach Candy Hospital purely as a precautionary measure due to his age. He will be fine and home soon. Lahiri, fondly known as Bappi da to fans and colleagues, is widely regarded as Bollywood's Disco King, having pioneered the advent of the disco genre of <keyword id="6354530" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="music">music</keyword> in Hindi films of the eighties and the nineties. Composer-singer Bappi Lahiri hospitalised after testing COVID-19 positive

He was 69 and breathed his last in the Criticare Hospital where he was admitted for certain post-Covid issues. Amidst the feisty lights and groovy music, the maestro looked at peace.

I work with Dilip Kumar Saab to Jeetendra, Dharmendra, Mithun and Govinda. I sang for him, Amitabh ji. Aana Jana Laga Rahega, Greftar. Wo bhi superhit hai (That too is a super-hit). 
 
What you are today, I have 120 Platinum disks if you come to my home. 
 
2. How different is today’s Bollywood music from the 80s? 
Us time pe picture bohot bante the (A lot of fims were produced back then). Me and Laxmikant practically had the full industry in our hands. 
 
Today the Khans release one film a year. People watch a song, and not just listen to it anymore. 
 
Also, we used to have live orchestra. 3. How different are today’s party anthems from the 80s? 
Now-a-days I’m in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Hollywood">Hollywood</a>. I’m shuttling a lot between <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Los+Angeles">Los Angeles</a> and home. <keyword id="6356630" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="EDM">EDM</keyword> and Pop have a different beat, but melody is less. 
 
Punjabi Folk with disco beats are a hit today, like the one <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Kanika+Kapoor">Kanika Kapoor</a> sang. I love Punjabi Folk. I once popularized Bengali Folk – Yaar Bina Chain Kaha Re and De De Pyar De. 
 
4. Your fans complain you don’t sing enough in Bollywood as they would like you to. 
Two very big films coming next year. I composed two songs there. I don’t have enough time. I leave for America. Because of Slum Stars I’ve got very good contacts in Hollywood. 
 
The film got Best Film Award from Sydney. I have directed the film, and now it’s going for the National Awards. I’m also looking to submit for <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Grammys">Grammys</a>. 
 
Everybody has dreams. I want to do international more. I want to project India, India’s classical fusion. I have done enough films.
