Ranchi, Jun 16 () The Jharkhand government would share its views on the COVID-19 fight with the Centre in writing as Chief Minister Hemant Soren did not get the chance to speak during a video conference of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with chief ministers on Tuesday. Soren said that the meeting emphasised on fighting the COVID-19 pandemic together. "Our turn did not come. So, we listened to the Prime Minister and could not put forth our side. But, the PM said that those who could not speak can share their views in writing. So, we can send him (our views) in writing, which is also a medium and that medium will be used," Soren told reporters after he attended the video conference from the Jharkhand Mantralaya. Health Minister Banna Gupta, Chief Secretary Sukhdev Singh, Principal Secretary (Health) Nitin Madan Kulkarni and Director General of Police M V Rao were present during the video conference, an official said. He hinted that the state expected financial assistance, grains for the poor and money to the poor through direct benefit transfer in view of the pandemic-induced economic hardships. Ranchi, Apr 13 () The Jharkhand government onMonday set up a Cabinet sub-committee comprising fourministers to supervise all the works related to the fightagainst COVID-19.The panel of Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon, HealthMinister Banna Gupta, Labour Minister Satyanand Bhokta andST-SC-BC-Minority Affairs Minister Champai Soren will alsoforward their reports to the government for its finaldecision.The sub-committee will ensure effective implementationof the lockdown norms, an official release said.In another decision, the Cabinet approved Rs 36.11crore to bear the expenses of providing 10 kg of rice to thefamilies entitled under the National Food Security Act forApril and May.The Cabinet decided to provide with a one-time grantof Rs 1,000 those who do not have money to purchase food andmedicines due to the lockdown and Rs 2,000 to those people ofthe state who were stranded outside, the release said.It also approved a proposal to announce 55 blocks ofseven districts as drought-hit following delayed monsoon in2019, resulting in less coverage of agriculture. Hazaribag/Ramgarh, Apr 9 () Jharkhand HealthMinister Banna Gupta on Thursday urged the Centre to assistevery state equally in the fight against COVID-19,highlighting the shortage of key medical equipment such asmasks.The state government has been seeking the Centre'sassistance for supply of more medical kits in the last fewdays."Prime Minister Narendra Modi should give equal reliefto all states in equal measure to tackle COVID-19," Guptasaid, adding, despite limited health resources, the Jharkhandgovernment is providing maximum relief to the affected."There is shortage of ventilators, PPEs, life-savingdrugs, masks and other equipment required to tackle COVID-19cases," the minister told a press conference in Hazaribag.At a separate press briefing in neighbouring Ramgarhdistrict, Gupta said, "I have discussed with Union HealthMinister Harshvardhan and requested him to provide medicalequipment and necessary medical help to Jharkhand."The state government will take the help of PSUs andother corporates, too, he said.Meanwhile, former Jharkhand chief minister RaghubarDas asked all BJP MLAs to donate 30 per cent of their salaryto the PM-CARES Fund."As per the initiative taken by BJP Legislative Partyleader Babulal Marandi, all party MLAs should contribute 30per cent of their salary," Das said in a statement.Marandi had on April 6 said he will donate 50 per centof his one-year salary and suspend MLA funds for two years.Jharkhand has seen a sudden spurt in COVID-19 cases,with the total going up to 13. The <keyword id="58529" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jharkhand-government">Jharkhand government</keyword> on Tuesday allowed congregation and religious ceremony on the banks of rivers, ponds and other public waterbodies for <keyword id="60716" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="chhath">Chhath</keyword> puja, two days after banning the same in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. <keyword id="1747596" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chief-minister-Hemant-Soren">Chief Minister Hemant Soren</keyword>, however, urged devotees to celebrate the <keyword id="59030" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chhath-festival">Chhath festival</keyword> at home as much as possible to avert the risk of getting infected by coronavirus. The government was criticised by opposition parties after <keyword id="10135899" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-state-disaster-management-committee">the State Disaster Management Committee</keyword> issued a guideline on Sunday night saying that no one would be allowed to assemble near waterbodies during the Chhath festival. The Chief Minister's Office on Tuesday said in a statement that the guideline has been amended and now devotees are allowed to hold Chhath puja on the banks of all types of waterbodies outside Containment Zones. Chief Minister Hemant Soren said that the threat of coronavirus is not yet over and appealed to the people of the state that they should follow other COVID protocols such as maintaining social distance and wearing masks while celebrating the festival in rivers and ponds and other waterbodies. He sought cooperation of the people in this regard. The administration, however, did not lift several of the measures listed in the guideline such as bursting of firecrackers, setting up of stalls and holding of cultural programmes near waterbodies. Earlier in the day, Soren chaired a meeting of <keyword id="9463880" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-state-disaster-management-authority">the State Disaster Management Authority</keyword> about safely holding the festival amid the pandemic situation. Disaster Management Minister Banna Gupta was present at the meeting. At the meeting, the chief minister said that public sentiment is attached with the Chhath puja during which devotees gather on the banks of rivers, ponds, dams and lakes in the morning and the evening. In such a situation, arrangements have to be made for organising the festival safely, he said. The BJP, which had slammed the government for disallowing congregation of devotees near waterbodies during the festival, welcomed the new decision. "At last the state government understood public sentiment," BJP state president Deepak Prakash said. Leaders of the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and the coalition partner Congress had also urged the government to allow people to assemble along waterbodies to celebrate the festival. Ranchi/Hazaribag, Apr 9 () Eight new COVID-19 cases were recorded in Jharkhand in the last 24 hours, taking the state's tally to 13, as Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Thursday appealed to people to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to the instructions. He also urged the people not to heed to rumours, a release from the Chief Minister's Office said. "COVID-19 positive patients have increased in the state. Now it is time to remain vigilant and comply with government orders strictly," the release said quoting Soren. The state reported the first novel coronavirus-related death when a 72-year-old man from Bokaro died of the infection on Wednesday night. Eight new COVID-19 cases were reported in Bokaro and Ranchi, taking the total confirmed coronavirus cases in the state to 13. "The state government is in touch with the Centre to meet resource requirements," he said, asking the people to keep away from rumours. The chief minister has been urging the Centre to provide more medical equipment to fight the pandemic in the state. The CMO release also said 25 migrant labourers, who are stranded in Tamil Nadu, are being given shelter, food and medical treatment in Chennai following Soren's intervention. The labourers belong to Garhwa and when the Jharkhand chief minister was informed about their distress, he contacted his Tamil Nadu counterpart E Palaniswami and sought help. In Hazaribag, Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta told a press conference on Thursday that the state government has urged the ICMR to set up testing laboratories for COVID-19 at Hazaribag Medical College and Hospital, and PMCH, Dhanbad. Testing centres are presently available in state-run Ranchi and Jamshedpur hospitals. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has assured the Jharkhand government that it would provide as per the proposal sent by it, Gupta said.
