State-owned <keyword id="6358007" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="bank-of-baroda" source="Orion">Bank of Baroda</keyword> (<keyword id="92547" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bob" source="Orion">BoB</keyword>) on Tuesday reported over 2-fold jump in its March quarter net profit at Rs 4,775.33 crore on account of higher interest income and low provisions for bad loans. The bank's net profit in January-March 2021-22 was Rs 1,778.77 crore on a standalone basis. Interest income increased to Rs 25,857 crore in fourth quarter of 2022-23 from Rs 18,174 crore in the year-ago period, the bank said in a stock exchange filing. Provisions for bad loans and contingencies were nearly halved to Rs 1,420 crore during January-March 2023 from Rs 3,736 crore a year ago. For the full 2022-23 fiscal, BoB's net profit nearly doubled to Rs 14,109 crore from Rs 7,272 crore a year ago. Shares of BoB were trading at Rs 187.15 apiece, up 1.82 per cent from the previous close on BSE. Research The Wadia-group owned Go First had cancelled flights scheduled on May 3 and May 4 after the company filed an application for voluntary insolvency. It blamed faulty engines from US aircraft manufacturer Pratt &amp; Whitney that led to grounding of half of its fleet. The manufacturer hit back, stating that Go First has a “lengthy history of missing its financial obligations”. SpiceJet has already begun efforts to cash in on Go First’s troubles – the airline has kicked off efforts to bring 25 aircraft back into service, tapping into the government’s Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS). “We are meticulously working towards return to service of our grounded fleet back in the air soon. Majority of the ECLGS funding received by the airline would be utilized for the same, which will help us capitalise and make the most of the upcoming peak travel season,” said Ajay Singh, Chairman and MD, SpiceJet. Existing players in the Indian aviation sector are expected to benefit in case Go First is grounded, according to Jefferies’ analyst Prateek Kumar. “If the exit of GoFirst does happen, this would be at the margin positive for sector consolidation as this would mean one less player in the market,” Kumar said. While SpiceJet itself is facing severe financial troubles with a negative net worth of ₹4,340 crore, its board had approved a restructuring of over $100 million in dues last month. Go First Impact: Market capitalisation of 3 PSU Banks down by ₹7,500 crore as investors fret over their exposure to ailing airline

Bank of Baroda is on track to achieve a loan growth of 7-10% in the current financial year and expects advances to grow 10-12% in FY23, Sanjiv Chadha, managing director and chief executive officer, reportedly said. The bank witnessed an improvement in bad loans and also lowered provisions in the December quarter. Moreover, Chadha also said that the bank’s advances have been improving since the second quarter after it saw some challenges in the first quarter due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. “The investment thesis remains largely unchanged as we are currently seeing all public banks, including Bank of Baroda, emerge from a weak corporate non-performing loan (NPL) cycle. Bank of Baroda surges 10% as net profit doubles, aims to grow loan book by 12% next year

DHFL, a non-banking financial company, primarily gives loans to home buyers in India’s tier 2 and tier 3 cities. After the IL&amp;FS crisis emerged, in September 2018, DHFL’s stock got hammered, by as much as 60%. Then, in January 2019, <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/markets/stocks/news/dhfl-plunges-after-cobrapost-expose-on-dubious-loans/articleshow/67749239.cms">Cobrapost </a>claimed that the company’s promoters were involved in a ₹31,000 crore scam siphoning off money. <div type="javascript" title="Custom" contenttype="Image"><cdata><![CDATA[ ]]></cdata></div> On June 4, 2019, the company failed to pay about ₹900 crore worth of interest, prompting ratings agencies to downgrade all of its commercial papers. Adding to the woes, allegations of dubious financial transactions continued to emerge against Kapil Wadhawan (the then chairman and managing director) and Dheeraj Wadhawan (then a non-executive director). In October last year, the enforcement directorate (ED) even conducted raids at several DHFL offices and promoter residences. Putting an end to the fiasco, on November 29, 2019, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) initiated insolvency proceedings against DHFL. To the company’s rescue, in January, 2021, billionaire Ajay Piramal's Piramal Group emerged as the preferred bidder for debt-laden mortgage lender DHFL. After two years of the crisis, many banks who had lent money to the housing firm will receive part of their loans along with a lesson learnt. Here’s a list of stocks to watch for in trade on September 11: Reliance Industries and Future Retail Mukesh Ambani led RIL has clarified on the circulating news report about the company selling Amazon $20 billion stakes in its retail arm. RIL said, “we do not comment on media speculation and rumours, and we cannot confirm or deny any transaction which may or may not be in the works.” This may also move the shares of Mukesh Ambani’s recently acquired Future Retail. The shares of RIL closed 7.29% higher yesterday, whereas Future Retail was locked in a 5% upper circuit. Bank of Baroda and Union Bank The Bank of Baroda reduced Marginal cost of funds-based lending rate (MCLR) between 5-30 basis points across various tenors with effect from September 12. The Union Bank of India also decided to reduce the MCLR by up to 5 basis points across tenors. One hundred basis points make 1%. The shares of Bank of Baroda closed 3% higher yesterday, whereas Union Bank gained 2%. Info Edge Info Edge said its investee company Zomato had raised $160 million (₹1,173 crore) in funding from Tiger Global and Temasek Holdings subsidiary MacRitchie Investments, valuing the online food ordering platform at $3.3 billion. The shares of Info Edge closed 3.30% higher on September 10. HAL The state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) reported a 74% drop in its net profit to ₹148.7 for the first quarter ended June 30. The company’s overall revenue was down 47% compared to the same period last year. The shares of HAL closed 3.24% higher on Thursday. Maruti Suzuki The promoter of India’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki— Suzuki Motor Corporation acquired 2.84 lakh shares from September 8-9. The shares of Maruti Suzuki closed almost flat on Thursday. Hindustan Copper Hindustan Copper reported a 40% jump in its consolidated net profit to ₹29.8 crore for the first quarter ended June 30. The company’s revenue increased 41.9% to ₹431.4 crore. The shares of Hindustan Copper closed 3% higher on September 10. Yes Bank Yes Bank said it has fully repaid the ₹50,000 crore provided by RBI as a special liquidity facility (SLF) amid the crisis faced by the lender earlier this year. The bank reported a standalone net loss of ₹864 crore during the quarter ended June of the current fiscal year, due to higher provisions and contingencies. Interest income of the lender during the April-June quarter of 2020-21 was down by 2.38 per cent to ₹ 18,494 crore as against ₹18,944 crore in the year-ago quarter. Total provisions and contingencies for the quarter jumped by 71.32 per cent to ₹ 5,628 crore from ₹3,285 crore a year ago. Bank's asset quality improved with the gross non-performing assets (NPAs) falling to 9.39 per cent of the gross advances as on June 30, 2020, from 10.28 per cent by the end-June 2019. Net NPA ratio fell to 2.83 per cent from 3.95 per cent as on June 30, 2019, the bank said. Bank of Baroda shares closed at ₹48.55 apiece on the BSE, up 0.21 per cent from the previous close.

The stock zoomed 9 per cent to Rs 55 on the BSE. On the NSE, it surged 8.51 per cent to Rs 54.80. State-owned Bank of Baroda on Tuesday reported a profit-after-tax of Rs 507 crore in the March quarter, helped by lower provisioning for bad loans. Effective April 1, 2019, the bank amalgamated <keyword id="6359442" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="dena-bank">Dena Bank</keyword> and Vijaya Bank with it. The numbers for the quarter/year ended March 31, 2020 are not comparable with that of same period of the year ended March 31, 2019. Bank of Baroda had reported a net loss of Rs 8,875 crore in the same period last year. The provisions for non-performing loans declined by 69.23 per cent to Rs 3,190 crore as against Rs 10,368 crore in the same quarter of last year. For the full year, the bank reported a net profit of Rs 546 crore as against a net loss of Rs 8,340 crore during FY19. Bank of Baroda shares rally over 9% post Q4 earnings
