<ul><li>Four Indian management institutions — Indian School of Business (ISB), Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore, IIM Calcutta and <keyword id="19483" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIM-ahmedabad">IIM Ahmedabad</keyword> — have been ranked in the top 100 list of Financial <keyword id="5472020" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Times-Global">Times Global</keyword> MBA Rankings 2020. </li><li><keyword id="60501" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIM-Bangalore">IIM Bangalore</keyword> bagged the top position among Indian colleges at 27th spot, crawling up six places. </li><li>While IIM Calcutta stood at 42th spot in the ranking this year, compared to 49th rank in 2019. </li><li>The top three positions went to Harvard Business School, University of Pennsylvania and Stanford Graduate School of Business. </li></ul> Four Indian management institutions — Indian School of Business (ISB), Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore, IIM Calcutta and IIM Ahmedabad — have been ranked in the top 100 list of <a href="http://rankings.ft.com/businessschoolrankings/global-mba-ranking-2020">Financial Times Global MBA Rankings 202</a>0 for its executive MBA programme. IIM Bangalore bagged the top position among Indian colleges at 27th spot, crawling up six places. While IIM Calcutta stood at 42th spot in the overall ranking compared to last year’s 49th rank. IIM Ahmedabad and ISB stood at 61st and 28th spot, respectively. “For the third consecutive year we have improved our ranking in the Financial Times Global MBA Ranking significantly. This is a testament to the continual improvement in MBAEx we have always aimed to achieve over the years,” said professor Amit Dhiman, Chairperson-MBAEx at IIM Calcutta. The top three positions featured Harvard Business School, University of Pennsylvania and Stanford Graduate School of Business. The rankings were based on the parameters including salaries, employment opportunities, research capabilities, career progress and female participation rate. Of this, IIM Calcutta did well on categories like value for money, career progress, female student percentage, inclusion of international board members and number of female faculty as part of the Programme. While IIM Bangalore achieved 100% in the "employed in three months” category.

In its recently held 36th annual general meeting in Bangalore, <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> has made it clear that that more than 11,000 jobs have been released due to automation. Revenue per full-time employee (FTE) increased by 1.2 per cent as a result of automation, utilisation and productivity improvements, the company said. <keyword id="194518" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Having">Having</keyword> said that the company blamed the media for creating unnecessary hype over the matter. At the meeting, the talk of the compensation gap between the top management and employees was brought up. The company spokesperson admitted of his awareness about the gap and assured of restructured compensation to stock-based rewards. Acording to <keyword id="6474066" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="economic-times">Economic Times</keyword> report, the IT major said it was sitting on Rs 12,222 crore in cash and cash equivalent as of March 31, 2017. This was against Rs 24,276 crore of cash it was sitting on at the end fo FY16. Deposits with institutions stood at Rs 6,931 crore as of March 31, compared with Rs 4,900 crore in the year-ago period.

Both FCAT copies, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Rajinikanth&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Rajinikanth</a>'s blockbuster <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Kabali&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Kabali</a> met the same fate. Several websites had full links that could be used to view and download a pirate’s copy. India’s <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Bollywood&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Bollywood</a> film industry, the largest producer of films, is severely threatened by physical and <keyword id="577158" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="online-piracy">online piracy</keyword>. 
 
Believe it or not, 2015’s big release <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Baahubali&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Baahubali</a> took the maximum hit. With 1,485 active piracy links of the SS Rajamouli film available, the film has been downloaded illegally 24.76 lakh times. The total revenue loss in these 17 months to the Telugu film industry stands at a whopping Rs. 1,064 Crores. To expect these guys to face such losses and still tell us why Katappa killed <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Baahubali&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Baahubali</a> is crazy. 
 
The numbers are mind-boggling to say the least. "Some unofficial estimates show that the overall revenue loss to the Indian Media and Entertainment industry is close to $ 2.5 billion”, Rajkmar Akela, Chairman, Anti Video Piracy Cell, Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce said. 
 
In 2014, India was listed in the International Piracy Watch List by the US. This is a list of four countries where piracy is rampant. However, few seem to care. The number of piracy cases registered in India reduced by just 10% this year as compared to 16% in the Asia-Pacific region. 
 "India's film industry - the economic contribution of the creative economy and creative sectors in India is limited. Issues like copyright infringement, <keyword id="54502" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="Film-piracy">film piracy</keyword>, cam cording and content leakage weaken the industry by hampering the deserved revenue production. Economies with supportive copyright protection are at least 30% more likely to have larger and more dynamic content and media sectors than are countries with less favorable IP regime", Mr. Patrick Kilbride, Executive Director, International IP, Global Intellectual Property Center, U S Chamber of Commerce said. 
 With increased penetration of technology and internet in India, piracy through online distribution is expected to continue to be a major source of revenue leakage if immediate steps are not taken to stem this flow of cash. Part of the issue is that legitimate means of digital viewing are still emerging in India. <keyword id="128682" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Netflix">Netflix</keyword> came in late, and with not many Tier II and Tier III enjoying quality 4G coverage, downloading it using torrents or buying from a local DVD seller just seems easier. 
 “How to grow movie-goer base in the face of growing satellite penetration and piracy remains the bigger and more fundamental challenge”, Ajit Andhare, COO, <keyword id="1194637" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Viacom18-Motion-Pictures">Viacom18 Motion Pictures</keyword> observes. 
 
This parallel black economy is also hampering innovation. Flipkart’s online music store, Flyte had to shut down a little more than a year of its launch due to music piracy. Another website Dhingana had to shut down after a long struggle. Music Store, a chain of over 100 stores in India was also shut this year due to the effects of piracy. 
 
Truth is, even with the improvements in technology, not many business models and payment mechanisms have evolved to compete effectively with the ‘free’ illegal option. The Indian film industry is waking up to the prospect of optimizing the release window only now, and making it available across platforms. Not to mention the laggard implementation of existing anti-piracy rules. 
 
“We acknowledge the National IPR Policy as a step in the right direction to protect copyright as it envisages a creative and innovative India. However, thousands of rogue websites threaten the lifeline of a film, as soon as it is released in theatres. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Film+piracy&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Film piracy</a> creates financial loss to our business and to the exchequer”, Mr. Uday Singh, Managing Director at Motion Picture Association said. 
 
While the economic impacts of piracy are difficult to quantify, a recent market study by FICCI looked at seven industry sectors most impacted by counterfeiting, piracy and smuggling, and found almost Rs. 73,000 Crores in lost sales in 2012 across just these seven sectors. 
 
As a saving grace, select Premium HD Channels are offering TV content to the Indian audience 24 hours of its US telecast, but are getting few takers. Hungama offers Indian film content to 47 countries through partnerships with other companies. Free online music streaming sites like Gaana and Saavn are trying their best with branding exercises. 
 
However, till expediting blocking rogue sites, tracing locations, owners, release groups involved in copyright theft and cracking down on criminal syndicates involving notorious camcorders are not considered ‘first-aid’ to any case of copyright violation, it’s difficult. 
Till then, it’s plain madness out there.

This is not an odd day out and people of Bengaluru are bearing the brunt of the burgeoning traffic problem every minute. 
 
There are umpteen number of tweets, Facebook posts, threads on social media by people of Bengaluru who have missed their meetings, trains, flights, important function, cricket matches, etc because of the traffic. They say starting five minute early also makes no difference as they have to face chock-a-block traffic in any case. 
 
A glance at the stats will further reveal the grim situation. As per the data from Bengaluru’s RTO, the number of registered vehicles in the city went up from 55.59 lakh vehicles in 2015 to more than 60 lakh as of January 2016. 
 
This means, every month, 10% vehicles are getting added every day to the roads. Moreover, Bengaluru carries over 2.3 million riders daily and the average speeds is 18 kph, with which India’s Silicon Valley is counted among India’s slowest metros. 
 
The nerve wrecking situation is also because Bengaluru has a road density of 8.2 kilometre (km) per square km, the lowest among big Indian cities, and the scope of expansion is quite limited. In comparison, Delhi has a road density of 21.6 km per square km.

BANGALORE: A year after aviation entrepreneur G R Gopinath sold his baby — India's first low-cost airline <keyword id="96736" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Air-Deccan">Air Deccan</keyword> — he had famously told TOI that budget air travel was all about people wanting to go where an aircraft took them. People, said Gopinath, should ask, "to where can I get a ticket for Rs 500? So wherever that place may be, people go because the aircraft is going there." 
 Unfortunately, Gopinath was much ahead of his time, said 33-year-old Mittu Chandilya, CEO of <keyword id="1583080" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="AirAsia-India">AirAsia India</keyword>. Almost seven years after the Air Deccan legacy, AirAsia India is living up to Gopinath's words with the launch of its maiden flight from Bangalore to Goa on Thursday. "We want to give people the option to fly even if they didn't think about it," said Chandilya. 
 
A mint fresh Airbus 320 aircraft, registered as VT-A TF, took off to Goa at 3.10pm with 186 passengers including 10 children, three infants, five first time flyers and CEO Chandilya. Around 40% of the passengers paid Rs 990 for a one-way ticket, 10% paid Rs 5 as base fare (approximately Rs 500 all inclusive), and the rest of them didn't pay more than Rs 1,900. 
 
Besides the ticket fare, all passengers paid for their check-in luggage, which costs approximately Rs 199 per suitcase up to 15kg. The airline is in discussions with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on whether or not passengers should pay for their check-in luggage. While the DGCA has raised objections to the charge, AirAsia India believes that 'unbundling of fares' leads to more transparent airfares. 
 
"Somebody should be able to get up one weekend and say look I got nothing to do, so let me get on a flight and go somewhere and explore a destination which is new. Cost should be almost something that people don't spend time thinking about," said Chandilya, echoing what Gopinath had said years earlier. But he was quick to point out that AirAsia India is not an Air Deccan. 
 
India's newest domestic low-cost airline has started operations on the non-trunkBangal ore-Goa route, and at a time when the tourist season of Goa is at its lowest. The airline's second flight connecting Chennai-Bangalore next week is also on a non-trunk route, given the fact that the two southern metros are exhaustively connected by bus and rail services. 
 
"Both Bangalore and Goa have some sort of synergies with us in terms of our brand, marketing, and as destinations we believe that we can build up," said Chandilya, adding that AirAsia India's average fares would be comparable to rail tickets. "Railways first class and AC class is my target," he said. 
 
Interestingly, all of AirAsia India's upcoming destinations — nine by the end of this year — will connect to Bangalore. A clear indication that the country's IT capital could well be the airline's operational hub. The erstwhile Kingfisher Airlines had planned to make Bangalore its hub, but that idea died with the airline going bust a couple of years ago. 
 
Originally Chennai was chosen to be AirAsia India's hub, but there is some rethink happening on that strategy. "If you have a sudden emergency, which airport has the capability to get you up and running fast? We felt it was Bangalore. And that's the difference between private and government run airports," he said.

IIM Bangalore’s 435 students get 481 job offers in two days – IT consulting leads with one-third of the opportunities

<keyword id="10875" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="IBM">IBM</keyword>'s chief executive, Virginia Marie ‘Ginni’ Rometty, conveyed a message of ‘tough love’ to Indian employees during her visit to Bangalore last week. Rometty, 56, spoke about India's growing significance and its role in the revival of IBM, the company’s employees said. 
 
"If you are uncomfortable with what's going on in IBM, that's how I want you to stay. That's the only way we will transform this company together," an employee recalled her as saying. 
 
Rometty, who landed in Bangalore in a private jet, had dinner with a select group of women executives of the company on May 6. The following day, she addressed a town hall meeting where the top 100 IBM employees from India were present. 
 
After eight successive quarters of fall in revenues, Rometty is under pressure from investors. 
 
The contribution of emerging markets, including that of India, is likely to be about 30% of its revenues by 2015. At present, they contribute about 23%. 
 
This was Rometty’s third visit to India after assuming office as IBM's CEO in 2012, highlighting India’s importance in her game plan. 
 "IBM's senior management was here to reinforce the strategy and imperatives with the team in India. <keyword id="123121" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="IBM-India">IBM India</keyword> is a microcosm of IBM, delivering the full breadth of IBM capabilities to its clients," the company said in a statement to The Economic Times. 
 Rometty discussed her plan to set up a new Cloud data centre in Bangalore in order to keep off rivals like <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword> and Google. 
 "Surprisingly, unlike her last visit when she met top customers including <keyword id="6358599" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Sunil-Mittal">Sunil Mittal</keyword> and Aditya Birla, there were no external meetings this time," a source added. "One notable exception was that no senior executive involved with IBM India's biggest client – <keyword id="15491" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Airtel">Airtel</keyword> – was invited," said another source.
