Earlier, the holiday was scheduled for June 28. The change came after the Maharashtra government declared June 29 a public holiday as the festival of Bakrid falls on this day instead of June 28 declared earlier. Bakrid is an Islamic festival celebrated by Muslims across the world. As per online stock broker Zerodha, this will affect the futures and options (F&amp;O) contracts. “The trading holiday on account of Bakri-Id has been revised to Thursday, 29th June 2023 from Wednesday, 28th June 2023. All <keyword id="17825960" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="FO-contracts" source="Denny">F&amp;O contracts</keyword> will expire on Wednesday,” it said. The equity, F&amp;O, and currency markets will remain closed on June 29. <keyword id="17825961" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="Commodity-markets" source="Denny">Commodity markets</keyword> will be closed for the first half, and trading will be open only in the evening session i.e. 5:00 pm onwards. The revised expiry date and maturity date of all F&amp;O contracts, which includes stock F&amp;O, Nifty and Bank Nifty, is June 28, 2023. “Since it's also a settlement holiday, your commodity account balance on June 29 will not include the credits from: profits (realised and marked to market) from trades or positions in commodity derivatives on June 28; and credits from exiting option positions on June 28,” Zerodha said. Also, funds withdrawn on June 29 will be processed on June 30 and the funds will be received by 2 PM on July 1, 2023. Profits and credits received from trades or exiting positions in the derivatives segment (F&amp;O and CDS) on June 28, will be available for withdrawal on June 30, by end of day. (With PTI inputs)

The decision to close the markets was taken to ensure that citizens, including those working in the financial sector, can participate in the electoral process. Trading will resume on Tuesday. The next holiday is scheduled for June 17 for Bakrid. The six seats in Mumbai where polling is underway are Mumbai North, Mumbai North West, Mumbai North East, Mumbai North Central, Mumbai South, and Mumbai South Central. The other constituencies of Maharashtra that are part of the ongoing election in the fifth phase include Dhule, Dindori, Nashik, Kalyan, Palghar, Bhiwandi, and Thane. Last Saturday, the stock exchanges organized a special session to test their disaster recovery mechanisms for trading in which investors showed enthusiasm and the market closed on the green mark. According to market experts, Indian markets are still facing selling pressure from the continuous selling by foreign institutional investors. Expect this positive sentiment to consolidate, but a decisive break upward, above the previous all-time high levels, will happen once the election results are announced by June 4th late evening" said Ajay Bagga, Banking and market expert. The selling spree in Indian stock markets by foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) turned aggressive in May, partly attributable to a strong US dollar, sticky inflation particularly in the food segment, and poll outcome-related anxieties. With over 10 days more to go in May, the latest data from National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) showed that foreign investors sold Indian stocks worth Rs 28,242 crore. Rallying for the third straight day, the 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 803.14 points or 1.26 per cent to settle at its lifetime closing high of 64,718.56. During the day, it zoomed 853.16 points or 1.33 per cent to reach its record intra-day peak of 64,768.58. The NSE <keyword id="6354813" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="nifty" source="Orion">Nifty</keyword> climbed 216.95 points or 1.14 per cent to end at a record high of 19,189.05. During the day, it rallied 229.6 points or 1.21 per cent to hit its all-time intra-day peak of 19,201.70. Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.61 per cent to USD 74.79 a barrel. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 12,350 crore on Wednesday, according to exchange data. The BSE benchmark had surged 499.39 points or 0.79 per cent to settle at its lifetime closing high of 63,915.42 on Wednesday. The Nifty climbed 154.70 points or 0.82 per cent to end at a record high of 18,972.10. Markets were closed on Thursday on account of Eid al-Adha also known as Bakrid.
