<keyword id="6359783" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="bajaj-auto" source="Orion">Bajaj Auto</keyword> Ltd on Wednesday said it will set up an electric vehicle manufacturing facility at Akurdi in Pune with an investment of ₹300 crore. The facility, for which the work has already commenced, will have the capacity to produce 5,00,000 Electric Vehicles (EVs) per annum and cater to both domestic and exports markets, the company said in a release. The first vehicle from the new unit, spread over half-a-million square feet space, is expected to be rolled out by June 2022. The unit will employ around 800 personnel. Akurdi is the site of the original Chetak scooter factory. "In 2001, Bajaj 2.0 took off on the roaring Pulsar, in 2021, Bajaj 3.0 arrived on the charming Chetak. Going forward, for the Bajaj portfolio, except for implementing one state-of-the-art ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) platform that is currently under development, all our R&amp;D drive train resources are now laser focused on creating EV solutions for the future. "This alignment reflects our belief that light electric vehicles for sustainable urban mobility is an idea whose time may finally have come," Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, said. He also said the investment at the Akurdi facility will complete the virtuous cycle of hi-tech R&amp;D competencies, high-efficiency engineering capabilities, world class supply chain synergies, and global distribution network which should leapfrog the company into a market leading position in EVs in India and overseas. The investments made by Bajaj Auto will be supplemented by a number of vendors, who will invest a further ₹250 crore ($33 million), the company said. The new unit will have cutting-edge robotic and automated manufacturing systems for everything, including logistics and material handling, fabrication and painting, assembly and quality assurance. These systems have been designed for flexible product mix while keeping in mind the best worker ergonomics and maximum process efficiency, it said. The unit at Akurdi is co-located with Bajaj Auto's state-of-the-art R&amp;D centre to foster greater collaboration, leading to faster time-to-market and should transform the facility into a hub for design, development and manufacturing of a complete range of electric vehicles, according to the statement. The two wheeler industry is currently reeling under weak demand due lockdown situations and increased cost of vehicles in the last two years. The transition to stricter emission standards, several price hikes by automakers, rising fuel prices and dented purchasing power due to the pandemic has increased the cost of vehicles and impacted the overall demand. In the December quarter, the company’s net profit slumped 22% year-on-year to ₹1,214 crore. According to a CNBC-TV18 <a href="https://www.cnbctv18.com/market/stocks/bajaj-auto-share-price-q3-results-bajaj-auto-stock-price-december-quarter-earnings-12183902.htm">report</a>, the company is now preparing itself for negative industry growth in Q4 (Jan-Mar). As tepid two wheeler sales hurt Bajaj Auto’s profitability, stock slides 4%

<keyword id="6359783" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bajaj-auto" source="Orion">Bajaj Auto</keyword> said its consolidated net profit increased 17.51% to Rs 2,020 crore for the September quarter with robust domestic performance driving record revenue. The Pune-based company had reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 1,719 crore in the year-ago period. Total income increased to Rs 11,207 crore for the second quarter of the current fiscal from Rs 10,537 crore a year ago, Bajaj Auto said in a regulatory filing. Bajaj Auto said its revenue from operations registered a new high of Rs 10,777 crore, up 6% year-on-year (YoY). In terms of volume, Bajaj said it sold a total of 10,53,953 units in the quarter under review, down 8% from 11,51,012 units in the year-ago period. Two-wheeler sales in the domestic market were down 19% to 5,05,320 units in Q2 as compared to 6,21,134 units in the year-ago period, while exports were at 3,76,263 units as against 3,97,900 units last year, down 5%. Total three-wheeler sales were at 1,72,370 units in the quarter under review as against 1,31,978 units in the corresponding period a year ago, up 31%. In the domestic market, the company said it clocked its highest-ever quarterly sales at 1,32,236 units as against 73,241 units last year, registering an increase of 81%. Addressing reporters in a virtual earnings call, Bajaj Auto Executive Director Rakesh Sharma said the company has been able to deliver "record breaking" performance in the midst of difficult international trading conditions. He said the drop in volumes of two-wheelers was due to the high base effect of the corresponding period last fiscal. Led by strong performance in the 125cc and above motorcycle segment, Sharma said Bajaj Auto has been able to increase its market share, which, along with better product mix, resulted in better revenue realisation. The domestic business registered a new peak, on the back of six successive quarters of double-digit growth, he added. On the company's electric two-wheeler brand <keyword id="409918" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="chetak" source="Orion">Chetak</keyword>, Sharma said after sorting out supply chain issues since March-April this year, Bajaj Auto has been able to increase its market share in the electric two-wheeler segment to 11% in Q2, up from 3% in FY23. The portfolio of the brand would also be expanded, he said, adding that the sales network of Chetak is present in 120 cities as against 90 in the previous quarter. Asked about the penetration of electric two-wheelers, he said it is at around 5% of the overall two-wheeler industry and in the September quarter, it has been "stuck" at monthly sales of about 65,000 units due to increase in prices after the reduction in FAME II subsidy. It has led to consolidation with the top-five players commanding 75% of the market as compared to 50% earlier and the bottom players have been weakened and severely hit. Sharma said one needs to wait and see how electric two-wheelers will grow in future as it will depend on the continuation or changes in the FAME scheme. Commenting on the performance of premium bike <keyword id="52525" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="triumph" source="Orion">Triumph</keyword>, he said it has been received extremely well in the market with the model clocking 8,000 units in the first one and half months of deliveries since August. Bajaj Auto will increase monthly production of the model to 10,000 units by the fourth quarter of FY24, up from 7,000 units currently. The company is also planning to start exports of Triumph bikes in the third quarter, while work on taking the brand experience to over 100 cities by the year end is on track from 26 currently, he added. Asked about the company's new launches, Sharma said there will be six upgrades and new launches in the 125 cc and above segment in the next four to five months starting after Diwali. On exports, he said a slow and steady recovery is expected considering the current global geopolitical situation and the difficulties in the financial system. Bajaj Auto said it sustained strong cash generation by adding over Rs 3,600 crore of free cash flow in the first half of the current fiscal. Shares of the company ended marginally up at 5,143.80 apiece on the BSE on Wednesday.

Bajaj Auto Q2 net profit rises 17% to Rs 2,020 crore

The company had dispatched a total of 3,95,238 units in October 2022. Its total dispatches to <keyword id="6439831" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dealers" source="Orion">dealers</keyword> last month rose by 36 per cent to 3,29,618 units compared to 2,42,917 units in the same month last year, Bajaj Auto said in a regulatory filing. The company said it was its highest-ever monthly <keyword id="3240258" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="wholesales" source="Orion">wholesales</keyword> to date. Its total <keyword id="35090" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="exports" source="Orion">exports</keyword>, however, declined by 7 per cent year-on-year to 1,41,570 units in October against 1,52,321 units a year ago.

At a time when the sales for the entire two-wheeler industry fell 9%, Bajaj Auto clocked a 1.6% growth in sales between April and June 2019. Bajaj Auto’s profits stood at ₹1126 crores, just a tad higher than the figure the same time last year. It’s consolidated profit after tax stood at ₹1012 crores, down 2.8% from a year earlier. The company plans to have around 150 exclusive outlets for the Chetak electric scooter by September, and is taking a calibrated expansion keeping in mind the uncertainty over the extension of FAME II scheme for promotion of electric vehicles beyond this fiscal. "We are trying to get to 10,000 (units) by June. It is a supply chain issue," <keyword id="6358511" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bajaj" source="Orion">Bajaj</keyword> <keyword id="32870" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="auto" source="Orion">Auto</keyword> Executive Director Rakesh Sharma said here on the sidelines of opening of an exclusive Chetak showroom. The company has reached 5,000 units at present and next month, it will try to get to 7,000 units, he said, adding after that Bajaj Auto would assess how the demand is coming to plan future production roadmap. Sharma said the company had faced problems earlier due to over dependence on certain vendors, who could not supply some parts. "That we sorted out by the first quarter and it is giving us some confidence...," he said. Bajaj Auto Urbanite Business Unit President Eric Vas said the company had suffered production constraints due to the transition to the new battery norm AIS 156B, which came into effect from April 1 for enhanced safety. The constraints have been resolved to a large extent. "So, we think we will be back to normal production, in terms of production meeting our requirements of the number of stores we are opening possibly by middle to end of May and after that it is purely driven by what we want, we will get," he added. At present, the waiting period for Chetak is around 20 to 25 days, Vas said, adding, from May onwards, it would come down to three to five days. On network expansion, Vas said Chetak sales network currently spans across 88 towns through 105 dealerships. "By September, we hope to have around 150 exclusive outlets in 120 towns," he said, adding, the company would look at the market and calibrate again for expansion beyond these. Vas said a key factor for taking such an approach is the uncertainty over the continuation of the FAME II scheme, which was extended till March 31, 2024. "One of the things which we should have better clarity on sometime by September is what happens to FAME II after March (2024). I think a lot of things depend on that output," he said. When asked if FAME II scheme should be continued, he said the industry is of the opinion that cost of EVs will go up significantly if the subsidy is stopped and manufacturers could not afford to fully absorb the increased prices. "I think prices will go up. It will stop the growth of the industry and that is why I'm saying we (Bajaj Auto) need to calibrate very carefully when we're opening (new stores for Chetak)," Vas said. When asked about the outlook for fiscal 2023-24, Sharma said, if the supply holds out and the demand keeps picking up, along with the network expansion, Bajaj Auto could touch a total of 1 lakh electric two-wheelers between Chetak and what it supplies to electric mobility platform Yulu.
