New Delhi, The quiz-based reality show '<keyword id="17940" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kaun-Banega-Crorepati" source="Orion">Kaun Banega Crorepati</keyword>' season 15, has got its second Crorepati in UP's <keyword id="18850842" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jasnil-Kumar" source="Orion">Jasnil Kumar</keyword>. The first Crorepati was Punjab's Jaskaran Singh. The 36-year-old Jasnil hails from Anwak in Uttar Pradesh, which is a small village in Azamgarh district. He works in a retail garment store. His family consists of mother, father, grandfather, his wife and two kids. He also has four younger brothers and two sisters. In episode 29 of the show, host and megastar <keyword id="6357912" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amitabh-Bachchan" source="Orion">Amitabh Bachchan</keyword> asked Jasnil: "Your current wish is to build a good house. Do you have any other wish?" To this, he replied: "Sir, like I told you, it's not like I don't think about myself. I had dreams as well as desires. When I was studying, I wished I had good clothes. l also wanted to travel." Big B said: "Both the wishes have been fulfilled. You travelled to Mumbai. You also got good clothes (indicating towards his jacket, which the actor gifted Jasnil)." Jasnil said: "We had financial problems at home from the beginning. My father's income was very meagre. I could manage somewhat after I got a job. With the money I earned, I tried to help my family, be it for farming or the education of my younger siblings." The actor wished him luck, saying: "Jasnil, may your desires be fulfilled. You have worked hard not just in your life but also in this game. Your innocence reflects in the way you talk, and depicts your roots. People of your region, your work and life experience have been innocent. And innocence matters in life. I believe so." Jasnil said: "As the elder son, I have to shoulder many responsibilities. Even if I try with this income, then it might take me a lifetime. KBC is a platform that can help me change my family's fortune overnight. Whatever prize money I win, I will use it to turn my house into a permanent structure." Then, the host asked him the question for Rs one Crore. The question read: "The gold left after a yagya performed by whom was used by the Pandavas to refill their treasury and conduct the Ashwamedha yagya?" The options given were - A: Vikarna B: Marutta C: Kubera D: Likhita. Jasnil gave the correct answer, which was Marutta, and won the huge price of Rs one crore. He then cried loudly in excitement, and hugged the 'Sholay' fame actor tightly. Jasnil even lied down on the floor, and touched Amitabh's feet in respect. Amitabh then asked him the last question for Rs seven crore: "Leena Gade, a person of Indian origin, is the first female race engineer to win which of the following races?" The options given were: A: Indianapolis 500 B: 24 Hours of Le Mans C: 12 Hours of Sebring D: Monaco Grand Prix. Jasnil guessed the right answer, which was option B - 24 Hours of Le Mans. However, he was not sure of the answer, and didn't have any lifelines left with him, so he decided to quit the show, and took home Rs one crore. Earlier, the show had its first Crorepati in Jaskaran Singh, who hails from a small village Khalra in Punjab, situated close to the border. However, after winning one crore Rupees, Jaskaran was not able to answer the Rs seven crore question and he decided to quit the game. Big B had lauded his decision to quit the game at the high risk point. The question of Rs seven crore asked to Jaskaran was: According to the Padma Purana, which king had to live as a tiger for a hundred years due to a deer's curse? The options given were Kshemadhurti, Dharmadatta, Mitadhvaja and Prabhanjana. The correct answer was Prabhanjana. 'Kaun Banega Crorepati 15' airs on Sony.

Big B’s best movies are back on the big screens - Here are 11 you can watch

When the Honourable <keyword id="15204227" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shri-Hardeep-S-Puri" source="Orion">Shri Hardeep S. Puri</keyword> wrote to me about his plans to publish an anthology to celebrate the centenary of <keyword id="6360099" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi-university" source="Orion">Delhi University</keyword> and invited me as a celebrated alumnus to write a few words on this magnificent occasion, I wrote back and told him that I was the wrong person to be asked to do this. I did not believe that I fell into the category of 'eminent personalities' he had given reference to, as my years at the university (1958-61) were an academic embarrassment to me. If I were to write something, it would all be rather frivolous and not in keeping with the grace and intent of the anthology, I told him. But he persisted, and I relented. The DU (North Campus) where I sought admission and studied was, perhaps, patterned along the lines of the Cambridge and Oxford universities in the United Kingdom (UK), where several colleges stood side by side at one prominent location, many sharing common boundaries - not just of the physical built environment but also of a deeper educative ethos of imparting the requisite attitudes, values and knowledge to build generations of leaders. This is shared situatedness imbued immense camaraderie among the students. We would stroll into each other's colleges, mix with fellow students, relax at each other's canteens, travel in the same university bus to our home locations, become bitter rivals at intercollegiate competitions, and immediately forget all that animosity to join our voices in cheering for the university when it played against another. This was 1958, and I was at Kirori Mal College pursuing the BSc General course, from which I just about graduated in my final year. Academically, it was the wrong decision to take up Science, but the years spent there were an education in many other spheres, which has proved to be invaluable in my life. Looking back at the influence of my education on my career, I realize that it is the amalgamation of diverse disciplines that inspires every form of creative activity. For instance, where would writers be without a printing press, stage thespians without a proscenium and lights, painters without pigments and canvas, and, in my case, film actors without a camera? Education engenders myriad symbiotic opportunities in the spheres of technology and humanities. Chances are very high that I would not have been in cinema or in any other creative aspect of life without a grounding in education-education which is in consonance with the belief that 'what sculpture is to a block of marble, education is to the human soul'. Before leaving the hallowed grounds of university, we sculpt our identity; we strengthen and fortify our convictions in a manner that we do not fall into a trap-the trap of being swayed by the prejudices of caste and creed, and race and religion. During my days at the university, classes were held at the main university building, while the subsidiaries and practicals were conducted at the various individual colleges. It goes without saying that there is a palpable nostalgia as I think back on the hours spent at the Coffee House, or at the bus stop outside Miranda House (yes, always outside Miranda House), or on the sports field that would host intercollegiate and inter-university cricket matches, and, of course, in the classroom where regular attendance paid its dividends when it came to term-end examinations. If I may be permitted to stroll down memory lane a little more, it was at DU that I received my first serious encouragement as an actor. The tall and imposing Mr Frank Thakurdas of the dramatics club paid me my first compliment when I performed in a stage production of Maxwell Anderson's "Winterset". He recommended me to the USIS drama company to play the part of Abraham Lincoln, and chose me for the part of Zeus in Benn Levy's "The Rape of the Belt", staged at Miranda House. Mr Thakurdas remains a part of me. So does Dr Swaroop Singh, a messianic educationist who was the principal of Kirori Mal when I was studying there and later became the university's vice chancellor. Without saying it in so many words, he made us realize that we needn't aspire towards a graduation degree merely because of peer or parental pressure. He reminded us that we should aspire to become graduates because we feel the desire to be complete with the advantage of formal education. For argument's sake, some may opine today that education isn't mandatory any more, with the proliferation of what some may call 'unconventional' jobs and vocations. Some may wonder about the relevance of a degree if one cannot apply it later in one's profession. To my mind, these arguments are superfluous. To be sure, it is a bonus if we can use our education directly in our everyday work-in fact, that would be ideal. However, even if that weren't to be the case, the years spent on campus serve a much more vital purpose-they broaden our knowledge about the world around us, besides aiding personality development. Clearly, initiative in reading at the library, participating in cultural events, and asking more of ourselves and of our educationists, add up to making us aware and concerned citizens. As the proverb goes: Whatever is good to know is difficult to learn. Moreover, no one can argue against the fact that campus life is the formative stage in every individual's life; that is when we 'remove the shackles', as it were. Suddenly, from a regimented life, we are free to make our decisions and heuristically zero in on the subject we want to study or the vocation we want to take up. It is a key period in any young person's life - one of choice. My father taught English and poetry, and he expected me to opt for Arts in college. When I didn't, he was accommodative and understanding. Certainly, the youth of today - in fact, of any day and age - does not want to be preached at. As time goes by, they become more clued-up and more aware of their needs and aspirations. They can see which route to take on the highway of the future. But, believe me, that is not enough. They must also know their speed limits, when to turn and when to apply the brakes. The <keyword id="151282" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="university-of-delhi" source="Orion">University of Delhi</keyword> was absolutely essential in that regard. Time sped its way along, and then one fine day, almost 50 years after I joined Kirori Mal, I was informed that Delhi University was decorating me with an honorary doctorate. The first sentiment was to express my limitless gratitude. Who would have thought that an ordinary student graduate would someday be accorded such an overwhelming homecoming? My immediate response after that was to ask myself if I deserved an honour of such magnitude. Was I worthy to be honoured by my university, my very own family, which gave me some of the most wonderful years of my life? This was the same institution that inculcated in me the values and principles of life that I cherish deeply and will abide by to my dying day. Among all the accolades that I have been extremely fortunate to have received, it is, perhaps ironically, being bestowed with this honorary doctorate that I regard as one of the highest honours. A lifelong debt is owed to the University of Delhi. I feel it is only fair that I reciprocate the tremendous faith and honour the university has shown me. This anthology, edited by Shri Hardeep S. Puri ji and including some fascinating entries by other more deserving alumni of the DU family, allows me to pay my respects. Indeed, it was a privilege to be at the nation's premier seat of learning-one which has always championed the cause of education since its inception a hundred years ago. My best wishes to the University of Delhi. 'I don't believe I fall into the category of eminent personalities': Amitabh Bachchan

Kolkata, Jul 13 () Fans of Amitabh Bachchan in Kolkata have organised "mahamritunjay yagna", which they said would continue till the Bollywood superstar and his family recover from COVID-19. The prayers, which have been going on round the clock since Sunday morning, were initially planned at the "temple" dedicated to Bachchan in the Bondel Gate area of the city but had to be shifted due to waterlogging, following incessant rains. "We will continue the yagna till all members of the Bachchan family recover, which we know is a matter of few days," said Sanjoy Patodia of the Amitabh Bachchan Fans Association. "We had initially planned the 'yagna' at the temple of the 'Shahenshah' (king of kings) of the Indian film industry, but due to the rains and waterlogging we are holding the rituals in my flat, located next to the temple," he added. Amitabh Bachchan (77) and his son, actor Abhishek Bachchan (44), are undergoing treatment at the Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai after testing positive for COVID-19, which they revealed on Twitter on July 11. Abhishek's wife, actor Aishwarya (46), and their eight-year-old daughter Aaradhya were also found to be COVID- 19 positive the next day but they are "self-quarantining at home". A grand idol of the superstar graces the "temple", which was built in 2001. It also has a collection of outfits, shoes and spectacles that Bachchan has used in different films. Gifted to the association by the actor himself over the years, all the items are worshipped everyday with no exception even during the coronavirus outbreak. A specially composed "Amitabh Chalisa" is recited by the fans along with 'aarti' of the idol. "However, we have not been allowing visitors in the temple since the lockdown began. The 'yagna' is also being attended by a limited number of fans," Patodia said. The association celebrates August 2, the day Bachchan got a second lease of life after being grievously injured on the sets of his film 'Coolie' 37 years back, in a big way and has grand plans for this year as well. "We all consider August 2 as the second birthday of Bachchan sir. This year we have plans to celebrate the day in a grand manner following all social distancing norms. Those who will not be allowed inside the temple can see the celebrations on internet," he said. Patodia said he was touched when Bachchan sent him an SMS inquiring about their wellbeing, following cyclone Amphan that lashed the city. "Bachchan sir and his family are aware of our love and respect. He, Abhishek Bachchan, Jaya-ji and Aishwarya-ji know us. Filmmaker Sooraj <keyword id="40286" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="barjatya" source="Orion">Barjatya</keyword> says he is set to venture into digital space soon with at least three web series under development at his family banner Rajshri Productions. These projects will focus on family-friendly entertainment, a genre championed by the production house through films such as "Nadiya Ke Paar" (1982), "Saaransh" (1984), Salman Khan-starrers "Hum Aapke Hain Kaun" (1994) and "Hum Saath Saath Hain" (1999). Barjatya said he was inundated with many offers from leading streamers during the coronavirus pandemic to explore the digital medium. "We have been offered to make Rajshri kind of stories by all platforms. After the pandemic, families have come together. I am surprised and happy. We are in the process of starting three-four series soon." "It is in our space (family entertainers). Some are in the scripting stage, others are in the ideation stage. We will look at all of this post the release of 'Unnchai'," the 58-year-old director told PTI in an interview here. Back in 2017, Barjatya had said the production house was toying with the idea of making content for the web. "After 'Unnchai', I will get busy with my younger son Avnish's movie, starring Rajveer and Paloma. As a producer, it is a big responsibility. After that, I will start my film with Salman Bhai. Muthoot Finance’s growth story While the pandemic was not kind to many sectors and businesses, Muthoot Finance was able to sustain its growth, Iyer tells us. The consolidated AUM has grown by nearly 80% in the last three financial years from 2017-18 to 2020-21. Its consolidated net profit has grown by 114% during the same period. In other words, it has more than doubled during the said period. “We have grown considerably when it comes to our book size in the last few years. This year too, we are looking at growing our book size by 15%. We have made similar growth in terms of percentages when it comes to our profitability too. We serve over 2.5 lakh customers every day through our network of over 5000 branches. Contrary to common perception that we are a South-based brand, we are today a national brand, and grown consistently over the last decade,” shared Iyer. The brand has also been on an expansion mode. Over the last 2-3 years, it has added over 200 branches across the country. “If stock prices are a testament, we have made a healthy northward stride. From every stretch of imagination, we have grown, in terms of our physical branch presence, our customer base and our profitability over the last two, three years. And our marketing strategies have contributed considerably to this healthy and sustained growth,” added Iyer. Creating a winning marketing strategy It is often said that during times of crises, marketing budgets are usually the first to get slashed. We saw a lot of brands that stopped communicating with its consumers during the pandemic. However, Muthoot Finance is one brand that does not believe in this. In fact, it believes in staying in the public consciousness, staying constantly engaged. It has a half-yearly marketing strategy where it comes up with a high decibel campaign every six months, a strategy that has worked well for it. Speaking about its latest radio campaign, Iyer said, “Storytelling is the oldest form of teaching’ and we also believe that radio has always been seen as a credible and authentic medium of communication, hence we chose it as our primary medium of communication to reach out to our target audience and new customers. We also wanted to have a female voice this season and bring freshness to the table, hence this year we are extremely delighted to partner with <keyword id="6355846" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="madhuri-dixit" source="Orion">Madhuri Dixit</keyword> for Season 2. We have extensively researched and customized our series to be launched via radio alongside strong amplification across all prominent digital channels. We recorded a significant increase in our new customer acquisition and queries post the launch of Season 1. Thus, we did not hold back ourselves in investing again in radio and celebrating the art of <keyword id="282281" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="storytelling" source="Orion">storytelling</keyword>." On why the brand continues to invest on traditional mediums while also investing on newer mediums like Digital, Iyer added, “We are a national brand with around 5440 branches across India. More than 70% of our branches are in semi-urban and rural areas. We have served nearly 70 crore customer (including repeat customers) since our inception. So from all those parameters, we are a large, spread-out, national brand. So its important that some of these mass mediums are always there as part of our media mix. It would never be possible for us to do away with any of the mass mediums because the reach from mass media is critical for us. Meanwhile, digital is also a very important cog in the wheel. In the last three years, our digital and our IT teams have been working tirelessly to ensure the technological upgradation of our products and services. We launched our Gold Loan at home offering during the pandemic. That was a huge value-add from a technology perspective. There was a time you had to visit a branch to repay your loan interest. Today, you can do that using any digital payment platform, our chatbot or our WhatsApp business account. So today, it is not compulsory for people to visit the branch physically for availing loans or paying their interest. We are also investing substantially on digital marketing. Atleast 10% of our marketing budget is invested into digital marketing.” He also added that TV still makes for the largest chunk, between 40-45% of its marketing budgets. On what it got right when it comes to its marketing strategy, Iyer said it was a combination of a few things. “In the last few years, we have been on a marketing transformation journey. Firstly, partnering with Mr Bachchan has helped us cut across geographies, gender and age groups. Secondly, we partnered with Chennai Super Kings in 2018 when they were just coming back after a short break. <keyword id="6354832" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ms-dhoni" source="Orion">MS Dhoni</keyword> is also someone who enjoys almost the same stature that Mr Bachchan does in Bollywood. He’s a trustworthy, dependable and balanced individual. So our partnership with CSK helped us in the Tamil Nadu market where we have about 900-950 branches. We have also been using transit medium very effectively and The Greater Kailash metro station and the Nandanam station in Chennai have our branding and it has completely transformed the stations. We also came up with a unique initiative during the Kumbh mela when we created huge gold lockers to help devotees keep their valuables at a safe place. This campaign helped us win numerous awards. Lastly, over the years, we have created a culture of launching half-yearly campaigns, new communications to bring about an attitudinal change in the minds of people. We try to be present throughout the years on all major ATL and BTL mediums. I believe these strategies have helped us grow as we are also trying to grow the category.” Owing to its presence in smaller towns and cities, the brand also focuses a lot on regional communications. The brand puts out its communications in 11 languages to ensure its reach is far and wide. Future areas of focus In what the scope for the segment is in the future, Iyer said, “Overall there are around 25,000 tonnes of gold (household jewellery) in the country and less than 5% of it is monetized. So there’s a huge potential for growth, both for us and the industry as a whole. So the focus would be on getting new customers to try and opt for gold loans. Its also a very simple product, you only pay interest for the number of days for which you have availed the loan. There is a whole lot of customer benefits which can help people benefit from the product. So our primary objective, even from a marketing perspective would be to grow the category significantly and help the category prosper by itself. We will also constantly keep working on bringing about an attitudinal change in people through our marketing and communications,” concluded Iyer.

"All that have been in close proximity to me in the last 10 days are requested to please get themselves tested," he added. Abhishek, 44, said both his father and he had had mild symptoms and requested everybody to be calm and not panic. "Earlier today both my father and I tested positive for <keyword id="8764728" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid-19">COVID 19</keyword>. Both of us having mild symptoms have been admitted to hospital. We have informed all the required authorities and our family and staff are all being tested. I request all to stay calm and not panic. (Eds: Combining related stories, including Amitabh's new tweet) Mumbai, Jul 12 () Megastar Amitabh Bachchan on Sunday thanked his admirers for their prayers and concern for him and his family members, including Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Aaradhya Bachchan, who have all tested positive for COVID-19. Amitabh and Abhishek revealed their diagnosis on Twitter on Saturday, saying they were in the isolation ward of the Nanavati Hospital. On Sunday, Amitabh's daughter-in-law, actor Aishwarya, 46, and her eight-year-old daughter Aaradhya also tested positive for the coronavirus. Amitabh's wife, veteran actor-MP Jaya Bachchan, 71, has tested negative. Taking to his blog, the 77-year-old screen icon said he was touched by the wishes coming the family's way for their speedy recovery. "My dearest extended family, your concern, your prayers and your wishes for Abhishek, Aishwarya, Aaradhya and me for a speedy recovery has filled me with unending gratitude. I thank you all," Amitabh wrote. The Bollywood veteran also said that though it won't be possible for him "to acknowledge and respond to all the prayers" towards the kin, he expressed his gratitude towards well wishers. "I put my hands together and say thank you for your eternal love and affection," Amitabh wrote on Twitter. Hours before his father's tweet, Abhishek confirmed Aishwarya and Aaradhya's diagnosis and said that they will be "self quarantining at home". Earlier in the day, Maharashtra's Health Minister Rajesh Tope told that it was "completely" the family's decision to quarantine Aishwarya and Aaradhya at home or get them admitted to the hospital. The news of coronavirus infecting the Bachchan clan triggered an outpouring of prayers and well-wishes for the 77-year-old screen icon who has dominated Bollywood for over five decades. A fan recalled on Twitter that the megastar overcame a life-threatening injury on the sets of film "Coolie" in 1982 and will do the same now. Dr Abdul Samad Ansari, director of Critical Care Services at Nanavati Hospital, on Sunday said the Bachchan father-son duo were "feeling better" and their condition was stable. "Both Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek are comfortable and feeling better. General blood chemistries are acceptable with stable vitals. Both slept well and had their breakfasts. They are stable," Ansari told . The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has declared four bungalows of the Bachchan family - Jalsa, Pratiksha, Janak and Vatsa - in Mumbai as containment zones and sealed them, a civic official said. Civic employees sanitised the bungalows on Sunday, the official said. Around 30 workers in these places were also screened for the coronavirus on Sunday, he added. A BMC team went to the bungalows for sanitising them and also for contact tracing, an official said. Security was also stepped up outside Bachchan's two bungalows in Juhu and outside the hospital, the police said.
