<ul><li>The Securities Exchange Board of India and the Bombay Stock Exchange is looking for further clarification from Infosys. </li><li>Nandan Nilekani's statement filed with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) does not include any disclosures as per Regulation 30. </li><li>Infosys is also under threat of class action lawsuits from US law firms. </li></ul>Infosys filed a statement with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) yesterday too soothe its investors. But the Indian regulatory authorities aren't satisfied. The Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) are looking for further clarification. "Infosys vide an announcement date October 22, 2019, titled "Statement", submitted statement attributable to Nandan Nilekani, Chairman of Infosys, wherein it is mentioned that Infosys had received whistleblower complaints," said SEBI in a statement. "However, it is observed that Infosys Ltd has not made any disclosures under <a href="https://www.corporate-cases.com/2016/10/regulation-30-of-sebi-lodr-disclosure-of-events-or-information.html">Regulation 30</a> of SEBI (LODR) Regulations, 2015, w.r.t. receipt of whistleblower complaint mentioned in the announcement," it added. While the news of whistleblower complaints became public, day before yesterday on 21 October 2019, these complaints had been filed on September 30. The regulators believe that they should have been notified of such stock sensitive information beforehand. It does not help Infosys' case in this matter that a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/stock-market/markets/news/infosys-share-price-signs-of-insider-trading-before-the-complaint-against-ceo-salil-parekh/articleshow/71698615.cms">large bet on a possible </a>fall of stock price as early as October 18. As many as 1.8 million shares were involved in the put option in the futures and options market, which is basically when investors make bets that either a stock would gain or lose in the future. The timing of this put option is so close to the news break, is suspicious. As investors lose billions yesterday, this individual or group could have made million using the insider information which Infosys had failed to disclose in a timely manner. A little better but a little worse Yesterday, Infosys saw its value crash by ₹53,000 crore— its largest ever cap erosion in a single day — closing 16.21% lower at ₹643.30 on BSE. But, the Indian tech giant managed to erase early losses on Wednesday and is currently trading 1.18% up at ₹ 651.15 per share. In addition to addressing the whistleblower complaint, Infosys is also under threat of a class action with two US law firms looking to file a class action lawsuit against the company. Infosys has been in hot water since Monday with a group of whistleblowers accusing the company's CEO and CFO of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/corporates/news/infosys-whistle-blowers-accuse-ceo-and-cfo-of-concealing-information-from-board-auditors/articleshow/71682975.cms">concealing information</a> from the board.

Indian equity markets trade higher led by banking, consumer good stocks

Mumbai, Equity benchmark Sensex jumped nearly 300 points in opening trade on Monday, tracking gains in index majors ITC, <keyword id="6354512" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> and ICICI Bank as investors cheered domestic COVID-19 vaccine approvals. The 30-share BSE index touched its lifetime intra-day high of 48,168.22 in early trade. It was trading 272.73 points or 0.57% higher at 48,141.71, and the broader <keyword id="372424" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="NSE-Nifty">NSE Nifty</keyword> surged 90.90 points or 0.65% to a record high of 14,109.40. TCS was the top gainer in the <keyword id="9940028" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="sensex-pack">Sensex pack</keyword>, rising around 2%, followed by ONGC, SBI, L&amp;T, Infosys, <keyword id="141968" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="HCL-Tech">HCL Tech</keyword>, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank. On the other hand, HDFC, Asian Paints and <keyword id="6355199" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance-industries">Reliance Industries</keyword> were among the laggards. Strong economic key data in terms of GST collections, power demand and railway freight for December 2020 will continue to offer strength to the market, said Binod Modi Head-Strategy at Reliance Securities. Additionally, final approval for two COVID-19 vaccines and likely commencement of the inoculation process soon are positive for the markets and economy. "Positive FPI flows are expected to sustain in subsequent weeks. Further, DIIs turning net buyers on Friday was also a positive indication for the market. 3QFY21 earnings and <keyword id="6360189" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="union-budget">Union Budget</keyword> will be crucial events for the market in the near term, which will offer clarity about the sustainability of demand momentum," he stated. Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in Shanghai, Seoul and Hong Kong were trading on a positive note in mid-session deals, while Tokyo was in the red. Sensex hits 48,000 mark for first time, Nifty tops 14,100

NEW DELHI: Benchmark indices pared intraday gains and cracked below their crucial support levels after Wholesale Price Index (WPI) for the month of November rose to 7.52 per cent, strengthening the case for the central bank to hike rates later this week. 
 WPI for the month of November rising to a 14-month high builds a strong case for the Reserve <keyword id="6355303" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bank-of-India">Bank of India</keyword> (RBI) to hike rates by a minimum of 25 bps in its upcoming policy review on December 18, say analysts. 
 The repo currently stands at 7.75 per cent, while the marginal standing facility is at 8.75 per cent, maintaining a corridor of 100 bps. An <keyword id="37018" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="interest-rate">interest rate</keyword> increase will be critical in another respect: as a protection from the effects of the withdrawal of the stimulus of the stimulus programme by the US <keyword id="6355253" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Federal-Reserve">Federal Reserve</keyword>. 
 
The 50-share index closed at 6,154.70, down 13.70 points or 0.22 per cent. It touched a high of 6,183.25 and a low of 6,146.05 in trade today. 
 The <keyword id="30287" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="SP">S&amp;P</keyword> <keyword id="53232" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="BSE-sensex">BSE Sensex</keyword> ended at 20,659.52, down 56.06 points or 0.27 per cent. It touched a high of 20,764.52 and a low of 20,637.77 in trade today. 
 
Indian markets corrected sharply after rising to historic highs last week on this euphoria post the election results. The three per cent-odd fall that we have seen from the highs of Monday to about the Friday has left a lot of people unnerved. It has begun to again question the strength of the rally. 
 
According to analysts, the RBI's mid quarter review of monetary policy and the US Federal Reserve's meeting is likely to dictate the trend for the markets. 
 
"We do not have the data which is very supportive right now (the CPI data and the IIP prints that came out last week). The market is beginning to price in a 25 bps rate hike," said Tushar Mahajan, Head of Derivatives, Nomura India. 
 "However, if there is a commentary of the RBI <keyword id="130" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Governor">Governor</keyword> that could lead the markets to crack up over the next two days, and then we may have some stability and dull trading days with strong support around the 50-day moving averages ... about 6140-odd levels," he added. 
 
Apart from the rate hike, market participants will closely watch the future commentary by the RBI governor. And a hawkish commentary might lead to further weakness in markets, they say. 
 
A rate hike of 25 bps is going to be absorbed by the markets without an adverse reaction or a bright reaction. If the rate hike is only 25 bps, we need to see what is the tone of the commentary of the RBI Governor - is it going to be too hawkish or dovish? 
 
"Given the data point, it will be important for the markets to expect some kind of dovish commentary going forward from the RBI Governor," said Mahajan. 
 Mahajan is of <keyword id="358683" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="40" keywordseo="The-View">the view</keyword> that if the commentary continues to be hawkish, we could see the markets crack down below wherever they are trading then.

	&#xa0;</div> Analysts advise investors to tread with caution ahead of the two highlighting events due this week and if RBI slashes rates by more than 25 bps there is a possibility that <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="nifty">Nifty</keyword> may slip back to 6000 levels. 
 
"If there is a 50 bps hike by RBI, in that case yes obviously there will be a huge negative reaction of 100-150 points Nifty cannot be ruled out," said Piyush Garg, Chief Investment Officer, ICICI Securities. 
 
"It is always advisable to be cautious and there is no doubt about it; but, yes towards 6000 Nifty it is a decent entry level for the market," he added. 
 
Investment ideas for 2014: 
 
Tushar Mahajan, Head of Derivatives, Nomura India 
 We continue to like the cyclical space from a trading bounce per se. Given the correction, it is a space which one would want to take advantage of. On the large cap space, <keyword id="6354919" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="LT">L&amp;T</keyword> still has the potential. If I am maintaining status quo on the RBI policy, then we could see L&amp;T bounce back again to those 1150-odd levels that we saw it touch on Monday last. 
 On the banking space, we like the leading private sector banks, either Axis or ICICI. In case of the other <keyword id="6355548" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Public-Sector-Banks">public sector banks</keyword>, barring SBI (given the fears of the QIP), we like PNB at the current levels.

 From the IT pack, TCS was looking stable and HCL Tech and <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> were also looking alright. All of it is really on the back of the batch of economic data that is coming out from the US and Western Europe. 
 
It is that period where one is anticipating a consistent good news that will come out, while there are still confusing signals that come out even from the markets like the US. 
 If the defensive comes back in fashion as far as the <keyword id="6371181" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="interest-rates">interest rates</keyword> or QE tapering is concerned, then IT will take the front stage. Therefore, people are holding onto it, perhaps adding on at attractive prices if they decline a bit.

"We remain underweight India &amp; Indonesia. Whilst there are fundamental and tactical reasons, the keys are progress on domestic reforms, the timing and nature of decisions by CBs, and volatility in bond markets and capital flows. 
 
We expect greater volatility in 1Q-2Q14, followed by anaesthetic liquidity later in the year. We would look to raise our weighting in India &amp; Indonesia at the time of greater dislocation."

Markets okay with 25 bps hike; but a hawkish RBI tone may trigger selloff

<keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> CEO <keyword id="6369763" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vishal-Sikka">Vishal Sikka</keyword> has asked employees not to get distracted by speculations that question the company's commitment. There have been reports of tension between Infosys founders and its management. He asked them to keep a "sharp focus" on executing the company's strategy, which is bolstered by its services like Mana, Skava, Edge, Panaya and cloud services. "...let us keep a sharp focus on the execution of our strategy. Let us not get distracted by media speculation that is designed to stir up gossip or rehash old rumours or speculate on the unknowns, around visas, or anything that questions our commitment to governance, integrity and values, in order to generate headlines and create, in the words of The Wire, Eardrum Buzz," <keyword id="281963" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sikka">Sikka</keyword> said in an internal mail. "There is no second ¬guessing our deep commitment, passion and dedication to transforming this great company, even within the unprecedented new context that we find ourselves in. We are doing this. We will do this. Together!," he said. 
 
There have been reports of simmering differences between the CEO and its founders over issues like pay hike given to Sikka and severance package of two former senior executives. Infosys has, however, defended itself saying all decisions were made "in the overall interest of the company" and that it has made "full disclosures" on all developments. Infosys founders, along with their family members, owned 12.75 per cent in the company at the end of December 2016, as per the data available on the BSE. The buzz grew louder when Infosys' former chief financial officer TV Mohandas Pai said the board should give a detailed answer and not take shelter under "bland" statement that decisions were taken in the interest of the company. Sikka said Infosys' revenue growth, which previously under performed the industry growth by 50 per cent about 2 years ago, is now in line with overall industry growth. "...we have held margins through operational efficiency improvements and automation benefits. Our cash flow generation continues to be amongst the strongest in the industry. And in a key sign of a thriving enterprise, our new software and services have seen tremendous growth," he told employees. 
 
Infosys' strategy is focussed on delivering higher value services and bringing the latest advances in technology into work. "...we create unprecedented value for clients, employees, shareholders, and the larger global ecosystem in which we operate ¬¬ including delivering value as one of the largest and most respected companies in India," he said.

"It is a global threat and students should be aware of it," Dash said. COVID-19 management and climate change will be included in the syllabus in the second term of the current academic year. Due to the pandemic situation, only 75 per cent of the syllabus was taught in the last couple of years, but from the current academic session, 100 per cent of the class 10 syllabus will be covered and questions asked accordingly in the board examinations, the minister said. The Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha has on Saturday notified the scheme of assessment, and syllabus breakup for the 2022-23 academic session, which has been approved by the School and Mass Education Department in June 2022. As per the official notification, the 2022-23 academic session will be from May 2022 to April 2023, and it will be divided into two terms. The first term will be from May to October 2022 and the second from November 2022 to April 2023. New Delhi, Mar 6 () A sharp plunge in the equity market made investors poorer by Rs 3.85 lakh crore on Friday as the BSE barometer Sensex plummeted over 1,400 points led by massive selloff in banking, metal and energy stocks. Tracking the plunge in the indices, the market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies dropped by Rs 3,85,485.39 crore to Rs 1,43,99,995.94 crore. In the opening trade, the 30-share BSE index plunged 1,459.52 points and was later trading over 900 points lower in afternoon session as sentiment in the market remained muted amid crisis at Yes Bank and rising concerns over the economic strain of coronavirus outbreak. Capital-starved Yes Bank was on Thursday placed under a moratorium, with the RBI capping deposit withdrawals at Rs 50,000 per account for a month and superseding its board. Shares of Yes Bank came under intense selling pressure as the session progressed on Friday and plunged nearly 85 per cent after the lender was placed under a 30-day moratorium. The entire banking pack also came crashing, with RBL Bank trading 13 per cent lower, followed by IndusInd Bank which dropped 7 per cent, SBI 6.5 per cent and Axis Bank 3.55 per cent on the BSE. The BSE bank index dropped 2.46 per cent. From the 30-share pack, all the constituents were trading with losses led by IndusInd Bank, Tata Steel, SBI and HDFC which plunged up to 7.3 per cent. HDFC, Reliance Industries (RIL), ICICI Bank and Infosys were the major drag for the 30-share index in terms of index contribution. RIL, the most valued firm in terms of market valuation, was quoting more than 3 per cent lower. Sectoral indices like metal, realty, finance and energy were also trading with significant losses of up to 4 per cent. Later, it closed 893.99 points lower at 37,576.62 as sentiment in the market remained muted amid crisis at Yes Bank and rising concerns over the economic strain of the coronavirus outbreak. Capital-starved Yes Bank was on Thursday placed under "moratorium", with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) capping deposit withdrawals at Rs 50,000 per account for a month and superseding its board. All BSE sectoral indices ended in the red, with metal plunging 4.40 per cent, followed by bankex, finance, energy, realty, oil and gas, power and industrials. Investors took the Yes Bank event negatively because it raises a question on the stability of the overall Indian financial system, said Santosh Meenas, senior analyst, TradingBells.
