Market experts pointed out that the <keyword id="19908008" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="volatility" source="keywords">volatility</keyword> in markets is expected this week. The US August payrolls data, along with revised data for the last two months, will be market-mover and will be released at the end of the week. Fed rate cuts are also expected this month, with investors waiting for it cautiously. "September starts with the Fed rate cuts imminent and volatility expected around the event. For Indian markets, we expect a minor correction as 12 record-breaking days of continuous positive moves will see some profit-taking setting in. A gap up is expected today but at some point some selling is expected at these all-time high levels. We expect a flat to slightly lower market this week, mostly due to some reversion to mean after 12 record-breaking continuously positive moves," said Ajay Bagga, Banking and Market Expert to ANI. In the Nifty 50 list, 42 shares opened with advances, while 8 stocks started the week with a decline. In the broader market, all indices, including Nifty Next 50 and Nifty 100, opened with gains, but the India Volatility Index (India VIX) also surged by more than 2 per cent. In the sectoral indices, Nifty Auto declined due to the drop in vehicle sales in August. Nifty Media, Nifty PSU Bank, and Nifty Metal also showed corrections. Nifty IT led with a gain of 0.65 per cent in the sectoral indices. Stock markets open in a positive zone but experts suggest Volatility this week

With the Congress and the Senate coming under Republican control and President Trump exercising power without bothering about another term in office, hugely transformational decisions are possible in the months following Trump's assumption of office. These decisions may turn out to be both good and bad" said V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services. "His pro-business initiative of 'America First' can strengthen the American economy. But if he walks his talk and imposes a 60% tariff on Chinese imports and a 10 to 20% tariff on imports from other countries, that would trigger inflation and jeopardise the Fed's policy of containing inflation, necessitating a rethink of the Fed's present policy of rate cut. This has the potential to negatively impact global stock markets,” Vijayakumar added. In the sectoral indices, a mixed performance was seen on the National Stock Exchange, with Nifty Auto, Nifty Pharma, Nifty IT, and Nifty FMCG gaining, while Nifty Bank, Nifty Metal, and Nifty Private Bank declined. In the quarterly announcements today, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, Trent, Rail Vikas Nigam, Linde India, Lupin, NHPC, and Aditya Birla Fashion &amp; Retail are some of the major companies set to announce their second-quarter financial performance. Nifty and Sensex continue downward trend, selling continues despite Trump's victory

How often have you been asked to invest more money in the markets, every time the market goes southwards, or experiences a correction? How many times have you been advised to "buy the dip", every time Sensex or <keyword id="19896381" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nifty" source="keywords">Nifty</keyword> nosedives? The rationale you're given is that this way, you'll acquire quality stocks at lower prices, which will eventually appreciate and grow when the market recovers from its short-term, temporary decline. However, a recent report by PGIM India Mutual Fund suggests that this advice might not always yield great benefits. That is, <keyword id="23577643" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="buying-the-dip" source="keywords">buying the dip</keyword> might not always serve as a wise <keyword id="20101352" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="investment-strategy" source="keywords">investment strategy</keyword>. Relying consistently just on this plan of action during every dip do not guarantee positive returns Per the report, between April 1, 2020 and October 4, 2024, the <keyword id="23577644" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSE500-index" source="keywords">BSE500 index</keyword> has delivered returns at a CAGR (compounded annual growth rate) of 32%. Out of this, it remained in the green i.e. generated positive returns for 39 months, with an average of 4.3% monthly returns. For the 15 months which saw a drawdown, the average monthly dip did not exceed 2.6%. Surprisingly, over the past 4.5 years, especially post the pandemic, investors seem to have put in 2x the money during the time of such drawdowns, as opposed to the times when the market was up. Between April 1, 2024 and October 4, 2024, the average daily domestic investment made in BSE500 was a staggering Rs 914 crore, when it was down. On the days it was on an uptrend, investors only poured in Rs 443 crore. Notably, domestic investment takes into account from Indian individuals, NRIs and domestic institutional investors (DIIs). <h2>Don't just rely on dips to start investing </h2>Recent data from CapitalMind PMS shows that there is not much difference in terms of returns earned by a regular investor (A) who does not time his/her entry in the market, someone who invests when the markets are at peak (B), and someone who enters the market when it has bottomed out (C). Assume that each A,B and C invested Rs 1 lakh every year between 2000-2004 in the Nifty. In this case, C would end up earning up returns at the rate of 14.1%, or Rs 1.91 crore. As for B, who entered when the markets were at a high, the returns would be Rs 1.24 crore, at the rate of 12%. But the average investor i.e. A would end up with Rs 1.54 crore, earning returns at a healthy 13% rate. The lesson? The best time to start investing in the markets is now. Don't wait for a <keyword id="19968045" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="market-correction" source="keywords">market correction</keyword> to start the same. Moreover, it is best to invest for the long-term i.e. 10 years or more. Data suggests that annualised returns inch closer after they cross the 10 year mark. So, in case you've had massive 20-30% returns in the initial phases of your investing journey, remember that your returns will eventually moderate. Conversely, if you've had a disappointing couple of early years in the markets when it comes to returns, it is bound to see an uptick, eventually. So, stay put!

Why "buying the dip" is not always good advice, and the right time to start is now

Shares of Godrej Properties surged 4.12 %, Macrotech Developers rallied 4 %, DLF climbed 3.88 %, Oberoi Realty jumped 3.79 % and Mahindra Lifespace Developers advanced 1.82 % on the BSE. The BSE realty index quoted 1.72 % higher at 7,953.46 during the morning trade. The Budget 2024-25 had proposed to lower the LTCG from 20 % to 12.5 % but removed the <keyword id="21006654" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="indexation-benefits" source="keywords">indexation benefits</keyword>. The new rates have come into effect from July 23, 2024. The indexation benefit allowed taxpayers to compute gains arising out of the sale of capital assets after adjusting for inflation. Tax experts had said that the proposed changes in the Budget would raise the <keyword id="22480102" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="LTCG-tax" source="keywords">LTCG tax</keyword> burden. As per the amendments to Finance Bill, 2024, circulated to the Lok Sabha members on Tuesday, individuals or HuF (Hindu Undivided Family) who bought houses before July 23, 2024, can compute his/her taxes under the new scheme [@12.5 % without indexation] and old scheme [@20 % with indexation] and pay such tax which is lower of the two. Gouri Puri, Partner, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas &amp; Co. said, this will quell taxpayer concerns around losing indexation benefits as a trade-off for a lower long-term capital gains tax rate. "Taxpayers can choose the more beneficial regime, and should not be worse off because of change in law. Concerns around taxation of inflationary gains in respect of immovable property acquired prior to a change in the law have been addressed," Puri added. In the <keyword id="19911354" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="equity-market" source="keywords">equity market</keyword>, the 30-share <keyword id="19950208" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSE-Sensex" source="keywords">BSE Sensex</keyword> jumped 1,046.13 points to 79,639.20 in early trade. Nifty Sensex breaks five-session losing trend, experts predict positive outlook this week

Notably, India's fast composite PMI recorded a slightly slower growth in September. This is the slowest rate of growth in 2024 for the manufacturing and service sectors," she said. "According to me, to remain globally competitive, the RBI needs to match the US Fed rate, which will create a significant difference between India's lending growth and the long-term FD rates," she added. Ambala emphasized the importance of the RBI's decision in maintaining India's global competitiveness, particularly in comparison to the US Federal Reserve's rates. She noted that any repo rate cut by the RBI could inject more liquidity into the economy, potentially spurring a bullish trend in the equity market and benefiting asset classes like real estate. "If the RBI chooses a REPO rate cut, it will inject more liquidity into the economy, likely fueling a bullish market trend. On the other hand, account holders could enjoy better returns in asset classes such as the equity market and real estate," she said. "The banking and NBFC sectors are already responding to the potential rate cut, and we may see a decline of 100-200 bps points in the next 1.5 years. Since the market has been resilient, I believe it will adapt quickly to these economic changes," Ambala added. Currently, major indices such as Nifty, Bank Nifty, Financial Services, Mid Cap 100, Mid Cap 150, Next 50, FMCG, Consumption, Metal, Infrastructure, and Auto are trading at all-time highs. Sectors like NBFCs, Realty, Infrastructure, and PSU stocks are expected to remain in focus as potential rate cuts could open up significant opportunities for mid-term investors. The technical indicators show that the broader trend remains bullish, with the Relative Strength Index (RSI) for Nifty standing at 74 on the daily, 75 on the weekly, and 83 on the monthly timeframe. However, Ambala advised investors to approach the market cautiously. "The Nifty index can expect support levels at 25,870 and 25,680 with resistance at 26,050 and 26,130 in the next market session," she stated.

Sensex soars to 84,928, Nifty settles at 25,939 as stock market closes at all-time high

The index, however, hit a low of 84,716.07 in the afternoon session due to profit-taking at record levels. Selling in <keyword id="20002610" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hindustan-Unilever" source="keywords">Hindustan Unilever</keyword>, Kotak Mahindra Bank and <keyword id="19900482" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ICICI-Bank" source="keywords">ICICI Bank</keyword> dragged the key index from the day's highs. The Nifty eked out gains of 1.35 points or 0.01% to close at a fresh high of 25,940.40. During the day, it climbed 72.5 points or 0.27% to hit a new record intra-day high of 26,011.55. Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services said, "Domestic benchmarks are attempting to sustain new highs, driven by the US Fed's aggressive rate cut. Meanwhile, the Chinese central bank's rate cut, and additional stimulus measures have positively influenced global investor sentiment, resulting in gains for domestic metal stocks." Conversely, FMCG and banking stocks exhibited declines due to profit-booking at higher levels, he said, adding that in the near term, strong inflows from FIIs, driven by the US Fed's dovish outlook and expectations of a rate cut by the RBI in October, are expected to maintain momentum. From the 30 Sensex firms, Hindustan Unilever, UltraTech Cement, Kotak Mahindra Bank, IndusInd Bank, Titan, Nestle, Bajaj Finance and Asian Paints were among the biggest laggards. Tata Steel, Power Grid, Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra and JSW Steel were among the gainers. The BSE midcap gauge climbed 0.21% while the smallcap index dipped 0.04%. Among the indices, FMCG declined by 0.75%, telecommunication (0.57%), services (0.45%), financial services (0.40%), consumer durables (0.31%) and bankex (0.30%). “Technically, the index is oscillating within a rising channel and is trading near the upper trend line resistance of the channel pattern, which is around the range of 25,900-26,000 levels, making them a strong hurdle in the short term. Therefore, on the upside, 26,000 will act as an immediate hurdle for Nifty. If the index sustains above 26,000 it could test the levels of 26,200. On the downside, 25,600 will serve as strong support for the index,” said Hrishikesh Yedve, AVP Technical and Derivatives Research, Asit C. Mehta Investment Interrmediates. Metal surged 2.78%, power jumped 1.38%, utilities (1.18%), commodities (0.95%) and industrials (0.47%). "Although markets ended on a lacklustre note after a volatile session, key benchmark indices hit new milestones signifying that liquidity flows has remained strong as investors are confident of India's long term growth story," said Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities Ltd. "Nifty ended on a flat note in a volatile session on Tuesday after crossing 26,000 for the first time. Asian stocks rose on Tuesday to their highest in more than two and half years, heartened by broad stimulus measures from China while expectations for more US rate cuts kept risk sentiment up," Deepak Jasani, Head of Retail Research, HDFC Securities, said. Large-cap stocks, particularly in the private banking sector, continue to look attractive, fueling the current bullish momentum. This positive trend is expected to persist unless significant negative developments arise on the domestic or global front”, he highlights. Mr. Pradeep Gupta, Co-founder &amp; Vice-chairman, Anand Rathi Group notes that this rate cut comes with some short-term benefits for the country, which means stronger rupee and potential capital inflows. "A stronger rupee would make imports cheaper, potentially improving India’s trade balance. However, these advantages may be temporary if the US economy continues to weaken. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) may follow the Fed’s lead but not immediately. Improved global sentiment could drive a rally in <keyword id="19991358" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-markets" source="keywords">Indian markets</keyword>, as emerging economies like India become more attractive to investors", notes Gupta. But note that in the longer term, the direction of the Indian stock market will depend largely on global economic conditions, and particularly the health of the US economy. If the US achieves a “soft landing”, as is targeted by Fed, and avoids a recession, Indian equities may experience gradual growth. However, if the global outlook deteriorates, Indian markets—especially mid and small-cap segments, could come face to face with increased volatility and market downturns. <h2>What should your investment strategy be?</h2>SEBI registered Investment Advisor Gaurav Goel advises having a thorough look at your portfolio whenever the equity markets hit a fresh high. Look, it is practically impossible to time the markets. But, as a smart investor, markets hitting a fresh high is a good time to rebalance your portfolio, so that you can cushion your funds from any significant downturn that will invariably stem from any market downturns thereafter "When equities hit all time highs, there is a natural tendency of equity component of your asset allocation to breach the prescribed asset allocation. In such a situation, on should reassess the asset allocation and shave off excess percentages from the equity allocation to revert to the mean". Goel also suggests hedging a portion of your portfolio by buying naked long dated put options on benchmark index like Nifty 50. This way, you'd be able to benefit from a decrease in the prices of underlying assets, without having to own it. But most importantly, "At these crests, its important to shuffle your portfolio. Remove the crap, low-value stocks that might have made their in your portfolio during bullish phase, and replace with high quality stocks. Shift your assets more toward the large cap stocks/index funds where the volatility would be less or towards sector/market caps, which are less expensive on valuations", Goel continued. As for traders looking to make the most of the ongoing upward trajectory of the market, Osho Krishan, Senior Analyst, Technical &amp; Derivatives, Angel One, advises "capitalizing on the upward momentum by taking profits, rather than adopting an aggressive stance in the overbought territory". "From a technical perspective, we have entered a phase where the market is overbought, as indicated by various metrics. Therefore, it is crucial to avoid complacency and instead adopt a practical and realistic approach to the current situation", he continued. Anirudh Garg- Founder and Fund Manager at Invasset PMS explains that "When markets hit an all-time high, investors need to reassess their strategies to navigate potential risks while still capitalizing on opportunities. However, it’s essential to understand that not every market high signals overvaluation. There’s a key difference between markets reaching record levels and being fundamentally expensive. Identifying this distinction helps avoid premature decisions based solely on market peaks". "In particular, when mid-cap and small-cap stocks exhibit stretched valuations, investors should shift their focus to high-quality companies. These are firms with robust balance sheets, consistent earnings growth, and strong competitive advantages, often found in sectors linked to steady inflation", says Garg. "However, the short-term texture of the market is still in to the positive side. Additionally, on intraday charts market is still holding higher high and higher low series formation, which supports further uptrend from the current levels. We are of the view that, 25200/82350 would act as a sacrosanct support zone for the day traders. As long as it is trading above the same, the bullish sentiment is likely to continue. On the higher side, it could move up till 25,400-25,425/82800-83000. On the flip side, below 25,200/82,350 traders may prefer to exit out from the trading long positions. In the US market on Thursday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average index crossed the 40,000 level for the first time, the expert said that the recent rally in the index is amid the hopes of rate cuts from the Fed in the coming months. The Dow rose as high as 40,051.05 during the trading session and declined to 39,869.38 by the time of closing. Earlier in April, the index tried to cross the 40,000 mark as well, but closed near it after a pullback in the market on worries about the high interest rates. The volatility index, India VIX, fell by 19.72% to settle at 10.20, indicating low volatility in the market. Finally, the Nifty closed the day on a positive note at 22,368. Technically, after the strong pullback rally, the index is likely to pause near 22,500-22,530 levels. If the index sustains above 22,530, the Nifty could attempt to break its all-time high of 22,776; otherwise, the index could witness consolidation in the 22,000-22,500 zone. The short-term support levels for Nifty are at 22,200 and 22,000, while resistance levels are 22,450 and 22,530," said Asit C Mehta Investment Interrmediates. ECB Vice President Luis de Guindos suggested that a rate cut in June is highly probable, barring any unforeseen economic developments, leading to a rise in the euro against the dollar. In the UK, the 10-year yield saw a slight uptick following the government's decision to increase the planned bond issuance for the fiscal year, contributing to one of the largest gilt packages on record. Gold prices continued their decline amid reduced geopolitical tensions and indications of a prolonged period of higher interest rates by the Fed. Oil prices edged higher amidst ongoing developments between Israel and Iran, with signs of easing tensions following recent confrontations. "The Bank Nifty was clearly an underperforming sector as compared to Nifty in today’s trading session. On expected lines, it respected our mentioned resistance zone of 48,000-200 in the last couple of days and marginal profit booking was witnessed after testing the same.Presently, it is trading near a crucial resistance zone of 48,000 to 48,200 levels and we believe that Bank nifty would further outperform only if it is able to decisively close above this resistance zone or else profit booking is likely from the current levels," said Tejas Shah, Technical Research, JM Financial and BlinkX. The NSE Nifty gained 18.25 points to 24,829.75. Later, both the benchmark indices pared their early gains and were trading in the negative territory. The BSE benchmark quoted 117.82 points or 0.15 per cent lower at 80,935.37 and the Nifty traded at 24,776.95, down by 34.55 points. From the Sensex pack, <keyword id="19906778" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Infosys" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Infosys">Infosys</keyword>, Titan, Tata Steel, UltraTech Cement, ITC, Tata Consultancy Services, Tech Mahindra and Asian Paints were the laggards. On the contrary, Tata Motors, Reliance Industries, Sun Pharmaceuticals, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, Bajaj Finserv and ICICI Bank were among the gainers. "Globally the market's focus on Friday will be on US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell's comments at Jackson Hole on the economy and the possible rate cut trend. Powell is likely to sound dovish indicating a rate cut in September," V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services, said. In Asian markets, Tokyo, Shanghai were trading higher, while Hong Kong and Seoul were quoting in the red territory on Friday. The US markets were closed lower on Thursday. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 1,371.79 crore on Thursday, according to exchange data. Meanwhile, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) again bought equities worth Rs 2,971.80 crore on Thursday. Global oil benchmark Brent crude rose 0.06 per cent to USD 77.27 a barrel. On Thursday, the 30-share BSE index rose 147.89 points to close at 81,053.19, registering gains for the third day in a row. Extending gains to a sixth session in a row, the NSE Nifty went up by 41.30 points to end at a two-week high of 24,811.50.
