Earlier on June 6, the NSE had moved the expiry day for Nifty Bank Future &amp; Options (F&amp;O) contracts to Friday from Thursday effective July 7. The reason for the change in stance is that the proposed Friday expiry of Bank Nifty coincided with the expiry of the Sensex/ Bankex F&amp;O contracts that were relaunched by BSE in mid-May. “Considering the need for balanced market development and avoidance of concentration risk in the market, BSE has requested NSE to consider shifting of the <keyword id="15021649" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bank-nifty-expiry" source="Orion">Bank Nifty expiry</keyword> to any day other than Friday. This will help in growing this complementing Sensex/Bankex derivatives and thus de-risk the market,” reads the joint statement from both the exchanges. In accordance with the request, the NSE has withdrawn its earlier plan. The first Friday expiry was to be on July 14. By scheduling the above mentioned expiry on Friday, NSE was set to have an F&amp;O expiry four days a week. It's noteworthy that the Nifty Financial expiry is on Tuesday, Nifty Midcap Select on Wednesday, Nifty 50 on Thursday. The Nifty Financial expiry was earlier on Thursday but it was then shifted to Tuesday. Market analysts say that this shift helped ensure that traders could concentrate on individual expiries better and worked favourably for the exchange with trading volumes going up significantly in Nifty Financial.

Bank Nifty expiry will stay scheduled on Thursday after NSE scraps earlier plan

New Delhi, Mar 16 () Crisis-hit <keyword id="45660" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yes-Bank">Yes Bank</keyword> will get excluded from all indices of the leading stock exchange BSE with effect from March 20, the entity handling these indices said on Monday. In a circular sent to all its members, the BSE said the BSE S&amp;P Index Committee has decided to remove Yes Bank from all the S&amp;P BSE indices with effect from this Friday, March 20. The decision has been taken in light of the recent developments relating to Yes Bank Limited, in particular the Gazette notification dated March 13, 2020, on 'Yes Bank Limited Reconstruction Scheme, 2020' and the potential impact on the ability of market participants to fully replicate S&amp;P BSE Indices, it added. "Effective at the open of Friday, March 20, 2020, Yes Bank Limited will be removed from all S&amp;P BSE indices," it said. These indices include S&amp;P BSE AllCap, S&amp;P BSE LargeCap, S&amp;P BSE LargeMidCap, S&amp;P BSE Finance, S&amp;P BSE BANKEX, S&amp;P BSE CARBONEX and S&amp;P BSE Private Banks Index (INR). These indices also include S&amp;P BSE Enhanced Value Index, S&amp;P BSE Dividend Stability Index, S&amp;P BSE Diversified Financials Revenue Growth Index (INR), S&amp;P BSE 100 ESG Index (INR), S&amp;P BSE 500, S&amp;P BSE 200, S&amp;P BSE 100, S&amp;P BSE SENSEX Next 50, S&amp;P BSE 100 LargeCap TMC (INR), S&amp;P BSE 250 LargeMidCap Index (INR) and E&amp;P BSE SENSEX Next 50 TMC (INR). Yes Bank to be removed from all BSE indices from March 20

<keyword id="6355975" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Axis-Bank">Axis Bank</keyword> and <keyword id="6653" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="ICICI-bank">ICICI Bank</keyword> share a similar profile in terms of corporate exposure and funding roads, power companies, etc, still there could be a divide emerging between the two. 
 
The stock performance of the two banks clearly point out the divide as the latest quarter financial performance indicate investors believe that Axis Bank is better place than ICICI. 
 The past year saw Axis outperform ICICI by a huge margin. Axis rose 68.71% in the past year when compared with ICICI, which gained 12.23%. The broader BSE <keyword id="54657" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Bankex">Bankex</keyword> rose 21%. 
 
ICICI Bank's March quarter earnings rose 10.2% to Rs 2,922 crore, while Axis reported an 18.36% advance to Rs 2,180.6 crore. 
"Axis' earnings growth for the past few quarters has been at 18% while that of ICICI Bank has been at around 10%. Its growth is almost double, which is driving investors to the stock," Vaibhav Agrawal, Vice President research - banking at Angel Broking told Economic Times, adding "Axis Bank's asset quality has been steady while ICICI Bank has seen a rise in its net nonperforming loans. This has also been a positive for Axis Bank." 
 
Meanwhile, Anish Tawakley, analyst with Barclays, said for ICICI Bank, the slippages from the restructuring book are very high as loan exposures come out of the moratorium. 
 
"In large corporates, there can be some lumpy accounts. Even if the economy picks up, they can see stress as they are highly leveraged,” he told ET. 
Even though Axis and ICICI apparently emerged from their past issues - partly created by the economic slowdown that saw bad loans of the industry's largest bank rise to 1.40% of total assets - investors seem to choose former over latter. 
 
"As far as the impact of NPA additions is concerned, as the bank has previously explained, the higher slippages to NPA have come mainly from the existing restructured portfolio; hence the impact on NII and margins is not significant," an ICICI Bank spokesman told the financial daily. 
 Both ICICI and Axis are run by chips of the same block - <keyword id="45875" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Chanda-Kochhar">Chanda Kochhar</keyword> and <keyword id="6356453" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Shikha-Sharma">Shikha Sharma</keyword> - who rose up the ranks at ICICI under KV Kamath. 
 
The newspaper reported that Sharma, who spent almost three decades at the ICICI Bank Group before moving to head Axis Bank in 2009, showed some aggressive management style by buying Enam Securities for Rs 2,070 crore, while Kochhar spent steadying the ship by pulling back funds from overseas businesses. 
 
"Asset quality continues to be challenging due to the tough operating environment and the economic recovery being slower and volatile," Kochhar said during the post-earnings call. In the past few years, she said. 
 
Kochchar added that restructuring was done keeping in mind assumptions of a possible turnaround in the economy. "But the pick-up in economic activity has been gradual and volatile affecting these companies. Asset quality in 2016 will be better than last year," said Kochhar. 
 
"The asset quality environment continues to be challenging with economic activity being weak," V Srinivasan, executive director at Axis Bank, told ET, adding, “We will have to monitor our exposure."

Mumbai, Feb 6 () Rising for the fourth straight session, market benchmark Sensex ended 163 points higher on Thursday after the RBI left the policy rates unchanged but maintained its accommodative stance to boost growth. In the sixth bi-monthly monetary policy review of 2019-20, the central bank also kept the GDP growth rate estimate unchanged for the current fiscal at 5 per cent and projected a pick up in growth to 6 per cent in the next financial year. The 30-share <keyword id="35140" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSE">BSE</keyword> Sensex settled 163.37 points, or 0.40 per cent, higher at 41,306.03. It hit an intra-day high of 41,405.43. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty rose 48.80 points, or 0.40 per cent, to 12,137.95. IndusInd Bank was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rallying over 4 per cent, followed by SBI, Bajaj Finance, <keyword id="6354287" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="bharti-airtel">Bharti Airtel</keyword>, Axis Bank, Sun Pharma, <keyword id="45123" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="HDFC">HDFC</keyword> and PowerGrid. On the other hand, Titan, Infosys, ITC, Kotak Bank and Asian Paints were among the laggards. Rate-sensitive financial and banking stocks rallied, with BSE bankex and finance rising up to 1.21 per cent. However, realty settled in the red. According to experts, RBI's accommodative stance bodes well for investors despite no change in policy rates. The central bank's six-member Monetary Policy Committee voted unanimously to hold the benchmark rate at 5.15 per cent, but also said that there was "policy space available for further action". RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said while the pause decision may be on expected lines, the central bank has several instruments up its sleeves, hinting at use of unconventional tools such as the ones used by the US Fed after the global financial crisis in 2008 to boost growth as rate cuts were not effective enough. Bourses in Shanghai, <keyword id="24349" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hong-Kong">Hong Kong</keyword>, Tokyo and Seoul settled up to 2.88 per cent higher. Stock exchanges in Europe too opened on a positive note. Meanwhile, Brent crude oil futures advanced 0.25 per cent to USD 55.42 per barrel. Sensex ends 163 pts higher after RBI policy; financial stocks rally

He said the government and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=RBI+">RBI</a> were closely watching the situation. "There has been for the last few days a great amount of turbulence which was being caused in the global markets. Obviously that turbulence has had impact on the <keyword id="47445" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Indian-market">Indian market</keyword> itself.” 
 The <keyword id="25455" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="finance">finance</keyword> minister said that not a single domestic factor in India has either contributed to it or added to it. “These are external factors. I have not the least doubt that this turbulence is transient and temporary in nature,” he said at an event in New Delhi. 
 
Jaitley also underlined the need for <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=strengthening+the+economy+">strengthening the economy</a> to deal with the impact of global developments. 
 The <keyword id="35199" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="stock-markets">stock markets</keyword> saw a bloodbath on Monday with the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=benchmark+BSE+Sensex+">benchmark BSE Sensex</a> crashing over 1,500 points, biggest in seven and a half years, amid a global rout. 
 The BSE 30-share index was trading 1,456 points down at 25,909, while the broader <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="nifty">Nifty</keyword> index of NSE was down 436 points at 7,863. Both the indices were down more than 5% in the afternoon trade. 
 
The market witnessed all-round heavy selling across realty, power, oil &amp; gas, bankex, auto, metal, capital goods and IT sectors.

FM Arun Jaitley tries to save the day after the violent market crash, says it’s temporary

MUMBAI: The <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="nifty">Nifty</keyword> extended gains for second straight session and closed at record closing high in the pre-budget rally. 
 Defensives such as IT and pharmaceuticals led the gains while banks and oil &amp; gas ended lower. Shares of railways related <keyword id="6354298" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="stocks">stocks</keyword> were in action ahead of the railway budget. 
 
The 50-share index ended at record closing high of 7,787.15, up 35.55 points or 0.46 per cent. It touched an all-time high of 7,792 and a low of 7,755.10 in trade today. 
 The S&amp;P <keyword id="35140" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="BSE">BSE</keyword> Sensex closed at record closing high of 26,100.08, up 138.02 points or 0.53 per cent. It touched an all-time high of 26,123.55 and a low of 25,992.73 in trade today. 
 
The S&amp;P BSE Midcap Index was up 0.12 per cent and the S&amp;P BSE Smallcap Index gained 0.60 per cent. 
 
Among the sectoral indices, the S&amp;P BSE IT Index rallied 2.63 per cent, the S&amp;P BSE Healthcare Index was 0.80 per cent higher and the S&amp;P BSE Power Index moved up 1.12 per cent. 
 
The S&amp;P BSE Oil &amp; gas Index was down 0.91 per cent and the S&amp;P BSE Bankex gained 1.21 per cent. 
 IDFC (up 6.01 per cent), Sun Pharma (up 4.25 per cent), <keyword id="45008" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Tata-Power">Tata Power</keyword> (up 3.45 per cent), TCS (up 3.30 per cent) and <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> (up 2.98 per cent) were among the top index gainers. 
 IndusInd Bank (2.19 per cent), <keyword id="6357149" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="HDFC-bank">HDFC Bank</keyword> (1.98 per cent), <keyword id="54253" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="UltraTech">Ultratech</keyword> Cement (1.88 per cent), <keyword id="44555" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="BPCL">BPCL</keyword> (1.73 per cent) and ONGC (1.54 per cent) were among the Nifty losers. 
 
The market breadth was flat on the NSE with 518 gainers against 504 losers. 
 
The foreign institutional investors bought shares worth Rs 943.19 crore while domestic institutional investors were net sellers worth Rs 853.1 crore on Friday as per the provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.

Markets Close At Life-Highs Ahead Of Budget 2014; Sensex Ends At 26,100

Indian banks are expected to have steady growth in earnings and returns over the next 3–4 years, according to a recent report by Jefferies. It expects a 13% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in loan growth for banks between FY24 and FY27, helmed by a supportive environment and expected adjustments in interest rates. "We expect steady growth in earnings and stable returns, Over FY24-27, the banks we cover should see 13% CAGRin loans We factor 25-50 bps cut in rates, &amp; depending on timing, NIMs will move," the report said. Depending on the timing, these rate cuts could impact banks' <keyword id="20076541" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="net-interest-margins" source="keywords">net interest margins</keyword> (NIMs), which measure the difference between interest income generated and interest paid to depositors. The report also notes that banks' net interest income (NII), a critical metric that is reflective of how much a bank earns from its lending, could grow at a steady 12% CAGR, which would support overall earnings growth. <h2>Rate cuts probable next year</h2>Per SBI Mutual Fund's monthly outlook for November 2024, while markets were initially speculating possible rate reductions in December this year or February next year these chances now stand dampened due to two reasons. First, elevated CPI numbers in September, which stood at a nine-month high, underlined the stickiness of food inflation. Secondly, RBI governor Das recently highlighted his hawkish stance at a conference, stating that "rate cuts at this stage would be premature and risky’. The report further adds that February 2025, or even April, would be a better time to discuss repo rate cuts in India. Even <keyword id="19985925" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bank-credit-growth" source="keywords">bank credit growth</keyword> has continued to outpace deposit growth for two years now. However, they seem to be inching closer in the recent past. For instance, in October 2024, while bank credit growth remained at 12.7%, the deposit growth rate followed closely at 11.8%. This also means that banks are witnessing an elevated bank credit-to-deposit ratio, standing at 77% in October. <h2>Risks in unsecured lending </h2>However, Jefferies noted some areas of caution that could influence growth in other revenue streams, particularly fees. Growth in fees may be at risk due to expected declines in the disbursal of unsecured loans, which generally carry higher interest rates and generate higher fees for banks. October saw stress and defaults rising in the unsecured lending space, prompting the RBI to intervene. As a result, unsecured loans by banks have only grown by 12.1%, the lowest since the pandemic. Despite these risks, the report expects banks' return on assets (ROA) and return on equity (ROE) to remain healthy, underscoring the sector's stable profitability potential. The report also highlights that while the Nifty Banks index has risen by 19% over the past year, it has still underperformed the broader Nifty index, which delivered 27% returns in the same period. BSE Bankex has been along similar lines, generating returns worth 19% over one year. While the Nifty banks' index has a YTD (yield to date) of 7.63%, it continues to trail Nifty's YTD of 11.30%
