BMW CE 02 electric scooter launched in India at ₹4.50 lakh

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>BMW</span></p><p class="caption">The new 2018 BMW i3s.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Since its debut in 2014, the i3 has been a quirky and slightly off beat eco-friendly option in BMW's performance oriented lineup.</p><p>Now the little electric car is getting an added dose of muscle to go along with its BMW badge.</p><p>That's because, for 2018, BMW is finally giving the i3 a sports edition called the i3s.</p><p>Powering the i3s will be a more potent 184 horsepower electric motor, up from the 170 found in the standard i3.</p><p>The upgraded performance drive system is designed for enhanced power delivery when the motor is spinning at the high end of its rev band. In fact, BMW claims the i3s's motor speed range, power, and torque at the limit of its performance capabilities is 40% better than the i3.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>BMW</span></p><p class="caption">the BMW i3 (L) with the BMW i3s.</p></div><p></p></div></div>According to BMW, the i3s can hit 60 mph from a standstill in 6.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 100 mph, an improvement of 0.4 seconds and seven miles per hour over the regular i3.</p><p>The i3s is hooked up to a 94 ampere-hour high voltage lithium ion battery developed in house at BMW. Running purely on the battery, the i3s has an effective range of 97 miles. However, BMW offers the car with an optional 2-cylinder gasoline driven, range-extending, generator that can boost the i3s's range to a more useful 180 miles.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>BMW</span></p></div><p></p></div></div>The i3s's cabin is loaded with BMW's latest tech goodies including the company's iDrive 6 infotainment system running on a 10.25-inch wide screen. At the same time, its eco-friendly reputation remains intact with 80% of the surfaces visible to passengers made from recycled or renewable materials.</p><p>The BMW i3s will make its world at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. <p><strong><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Toyota</span></p><p class="caption">Toyota Prius.</p></div><p></p></div></div></strong></p><ul class="summary-list"><li><strong>The splashy introductions of long-range electric vehicles from Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, and BMW this year may create the impression that fully-electric vehicles will dominate the auto industry's future.</strong></li><li><strong>But, according to a <a href="https://www.jpmorgan.com/global/research/electric-vehicles?source=cib_de_bi_evehicle1018">new study</a> from <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/jpmorgan-chase">JPMorgan Chase</a>, hybrid vehicle adoption will grow at a faster rate than fully-electric vehicle adoption between now and 2025.</strong></li><li><strong>At the moment, hybrids have a major cost advantage over fully-electric vehicles that should continue through 2025.</strong></li></ul><p> </p><p>As automakers plan to electrify an increasing percentage of their offerings over the next decade, their <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/electric-cars-that-will-be-available-by-2025-2018-1">fully electric vehicles</a> are attracting the most attention. </p><p>The splashy introductions of long-range electric vehicles from <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/audi-unveils-e-tron-electric-suv-2018-9">Audi</a>, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mercedes-benz-eqc-electric-suv-debuts-2018-9">Mercedes-Benz</a>, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jaguar-i-pace-electric-crossover-suv-drive-photos-2018-3#however-i-can-see-the-i-pace-as-a-complement-to-the-model-x-in-fact-i-can-see-the-jag-as-a-viable-option-for-electric-suv-shoppers-who-arent-bowled-over-by-the-teslas-six-figure-price-tag-crazy-doors-and-supercar-shaming-acceleration-once-the-poster-child-of-old-world-british-charm-jaguar-is-now-a-brand-marching-towards-the-future-with-aplomb-and-the-i-pace-is-leading-the-way-19">Jaguar</a>, and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/bmw-electric-ix3-suv-will-rival-tesla-model-x-photos-details-2018-4">BMW</a> may create the impression that fully-electric vehicles will dominate the auto industry's future, but, according to a <a href="https://www.jpmorgan.com/global/research/electric-vehicles?source=cib_de_bi_evehicle1018">new study</a> from JPMorgan Chase, hybrid vehicle adoption will grow at a faster rate than fully-electric vehicle adoption between now and 2025.</p><p>The bank splits hybrids into three categories: mild hybrids, which have an electric motor that assists an internal combustion engine, but can't move the vehicle on its own; full hybrids, which have an electric motor that can move the vehicle without the help of an internal combustion engine, but only at low speeds; and plug-in hybrids, which have an electric motor that can propel the vehicle without assistance at all speeds and an internal combustion engine that takes over once the vehicle's battery is depleted.</p><p>According to JPMorgan, vehicles with internal combustion engines accounted for 95.3% of light vehicle sales in 2017, full and mild hybrids accounted for 3.2%, plug-in hybrids for 0.4%, and fully-electric vehicles for 1.1%. The bank projects that, in 2025, vehicles with internal combustion engines will comprise 69.6% of the global light vehicle market, with full and mild hybrids taking 22.8% of the market, plug-in hybrids taking 1.4%, and fully-electric vehicles taking 6.3%.</p><p>If JPMorgan is correct, both hybrid and fully-electric vehicle adoption will experience significant growth in the next seven years, but hybrids will grow at a faster rate. Ryan Brinkman, an automotive equity research analyst at JPMorgan and one of the report's co-authors, told Business Insider via email that while hybrids are less efficient than fully-electric vehicles, they have a major cost advantage that should continue through 2025.</p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">That's true on a global scale, but some governments provide incentives that help to level the playing field between hybrid and fully-electric vehicles. China offers <a href="https://www.eesi.org/articles/view/comparing-u.s.-and-chinese-electric-vehicle-policies">tax breaks and subsidies</a> for fully-electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles, but not for mild or full hybrids. JPMorgan projects that in 2025, fully-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles will account for 12% of China's total auto sales, while full and mild hybrids will account for just 2%.</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">But in the United States, the Trump Administration has said it will <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ap-trump-team-wants-to-roll-back-obama-era-mileage-standards-2018-8">roll back</a> fuel economy standards, which means automakers will face less immediate pressure to make their fleets more efficient. As a result, they'll be able to lean more heavily on hybrids to meet those standards, Brinkman said.
