If this trend holds, a majority government will form with BJP-led NDA acquiring slightly below 300 seats, almost mirroring exact forecasts by on-ground reporters and some political experts. If the scorecard settles at the current mark, this will end up becoming the poorest performance for NDA since their historic win in 2014. The alliance came to power after winning an overwhelming 336 seats in 2014, and 353 seats in 2019. However, the main point of shock has come from the performance of Congress and the INDIA bloc, who have maintained a steadfast 200+ seats since the initial polling rounds. Out of the nine odd exit polls that came out with results recently, none had predicted the INDIA bloc to win over 150-170 seats. This win was a huge blow to the INC, which only won 44 seats compared to the 206 in 2009. Amazon grew 34 per cent (on-year) and was the fastest growing online platform, Counterpoint Research said late on Friday. Xiaomi remained the <keyword id="11002857" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="top-online-brand">top online brand</keyword> with a 40 per cent market share driven by the Redmi as well as Poco brand smartphones. With 19 per cent, <keyword id="10591" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword> captured the second position in the India online smartphone market driven by the Galaxy M-series. Samsung captured more than one-third shipments on Amazon. Realme was third in the <keyword id="2664329" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Online-Segment">online segment</keyword>, also with 19 per cent share. According to Counterpoint, realme remained the top smartphone brand on Flipkart in 2020, registering a growth of 27 per cent (on-year). Vivo captured the fourth position due to strong shipments of the Y91i, Y20 and <keyword id="3091391" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="V20">V20</keyword> series. "OnePlus was the top online premium smartphone brand on Amazon and captured the fifth position in the overall online smartphone market," the report mentioned. The top five brands in the online market captured more than 82 per cent of the total shipments. realme and Poco were the top smartphone brands on Flipkart, capturing more than 50 per cent of the shipments on the platform. The premium online smartphone market also registered a 22 per cent (on-year) growth due to these strategies. <keyword id="6354427" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="apple">Apple</keyword>, OnePlus and Samsung drove this segment and contributed to almost 90 per cent of the shipments in this segment. "Major online brands are adopting a hybrid channel strategy and expanding their offline stores. A test that the Congress-Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) alliance failed. While moving the motion, Narayanasamy pointed fingers at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi for trying to topple the government. “Former LG Kiran Bedi and the Central Government colluded with the opposition and tried to topple the government. It is clear that the people of Puducherry trust us. "What is happening in Puducherry now is political prostitution. But the truth will prevail," he said in his speech ahead of the floor test accusing BJP of derailing India's democratic system. Following his scathing speech and heated arguments over the voting rights of three nominated MLAs who support the BJP, the Chief Minister and ruling MLAs walked out of the house The numbers were stacked against Congress-DMK The Puducherry Assembly is made up of 33 seats. Of these, 30 are for elected MLAs and three are for MLAs nominated by the central government. During the 2016 Assembly elections, the Congress was able to garner 15 of these seats putting them in the majority. However, one of their MLAs was disqualified by the party last year under the anti-defection law. Another five have since resigned, including one who quit on Sunday, February 21. This meant that the overall strength of the Legislative Assembly was now down to 26 and the Congress alliance was holding on to 12 of those seats — one short of the halfway mark. And, since one of the members is also the speaker, his vote doesn’t count unless there’s a tie, leaving the Congress’ strength effectively only at 11. The voters seem to have swung in favour of the National Democratic Alliance in Puducherry, the union territory in the south of India that shares its borders with Tamil Nadu. However, the main opposition, the coalition between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the <keyword id="190679" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-National-Congress">Indian National Congress</keyword> aside from other regional parties, is trailing with leads in just nine seats. The election in Puducherry took place on April 6 after the local government in the union territory was expelled in February this year. The NDA vote share in Puducherry has gone up to over 30% this time compared to 2016, when the Congress had won the election 15 out of the 30 assembly seats with a 30% vote share. The decision by the then Lieutenant Governor (LG) Kiran Bedi was the culmination of a long-standing power tussle between the government led by the Indian National Congress' V Narayanaswamy and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the centre. The <keyword id="40807" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Election-Commission">Election Commission</keyword> on Friday ordered repoll at a polling station in Southern <keyword id="6354915" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="assam">Assam</keyword> after the electronic voting machine (EVM) was found in a <keyword id="14666" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BJP">BJP</keyword> candidate wife's <keyword id="46210" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vehicle">vehicle</keyword> on Thursday evening. The EC said in a statement that the presiding officer and three other officials have been placed under suspension and a repoll has been ordered at the Indira M.V. School polling station under Ratabari Assembly constituency in the state. "Although the seals of the EVM were found intact, it has nevertheless been decided to do a repoll at the Indira M.V. School polling station as added precaution," the statement said. The Commission also sought a report from the Special Observer about the incident. The statement said that after the officials car carrying the <keyword id="11034879" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="polled-evm-machine">polled EVM machine</keyword> to Karimganj was broken down they boarded a passing private car which was subsequently surrounded by a mob of about 50 people that started pelting stones at them. The mob at the Kanaishil (under Karimganj district) alleged that the EVM was being taken to be tampered with. The private car was owned by the wife of BJP candidate of the neighbouring Patharkandi constituency Krishnendu Paul. The statement added that due to the heavy rains on Thursday night and the roads being muddy, the official car of the <keyword id="2235016" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="polling-personnel">polling personnel</keyword> broke down and then they boarded a private vehicle along with their polled EVM and other materials without checking the ownership of the vehicle. Immediately after receiving information about the incident, the District Election Officer of Karimganj along with the district Superintendent of Police (SP) rushed to the spot and reached there at 10.20 p.m. on Thursday night.During the course of the stone pelting, Karimganj SP Mayank Kumar sustained minor injuries on his collarbone and blank firing had to be resorted to disperse the mob. The first polling officer, who was found missing in the commotion, was rescued early on Friday morning from a nearby area. About the incident Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in a tweet said : "Every time there is an election video of private vehicles caught transporting EVMs show up... Unsurprisingly they have the following things in common: 1. The vehicles usually belong to BJP candidates or their associates. ...." Over 77 per cent of the 73,44,631 voters exercised their franchise in the second phase of polling in Assam on Thursday in the 39 constituencies. Of the three-phase elections to the 126-member <keyword id="124967" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Assam-Assembly">Assam Assembly</keyword>, the third and final phase of polling will be held in 40 seats on April 6. Nearly 80 per cent of 81,09,815 voters cast their votes on March 27 in the first phase of polling in 47 constituencies. The results will be declared on May 2. The ruling <keyword id="58687" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharatiya-Janata-Party">Bharatiya Janata Party</keyword> (BJP) won 3 of the 4 seats in the October 28 biennial elections to the <keyword id="74394" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karnataka-legislative-council">Karnataka Legislative Council</keyword>, including 2 from Teachers and 1 from Graduates constituency, an official said on Tuesday. "BJP's Puttanna won the <keyword id="6355033" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="bangalore">Bangalore</keyword> Teachers seat with 7,335 votes, defeating A.P. Ranganatha of the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) with 5,107 votes and R. <keyword id="6366707" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="praveen-kumar">Praveen Kumar</keyword> of Congress with 782 votes," an Election Commission official told IANS here. Puttanna, who defected from the JD-S, has retained the seat. In Karnataka North-East Teachers constituency, BJP's Shashil Namoshi won with 9,418 votes, wresting the seat from Sharanappa Mattur of Congress who polled 6,213 votes, while Timmayya Purle of JD-S secured 3,812 votes. Namoshi had won from the seat twice earlier, while Mattur re-contested after his term ended in June but lost. In Karnataka West Graduates segment, BJP's S.V. Sankur won with 13,293 votes, defeating <keyword id="10255012" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="r-m-kuberappa">R.M. Kuberappa</keyword> of Congress with 6,111 votes and Basavaraj Terdal, an Independent, with 3,540 votes. Sankur re-contested to retain the seat after his term ended in June. Vote count is still underway in the Karnataka South-East Graduates seat, in which Chidanand Gowda of the BJP, <keyword id="207378" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ramesh-Babu">Ramesh Babu</keyword> of the Congress and R. Chowda Reddy of the JD-S are in the fray. Reddy has re-contested after his term ended in June. Votes of Bangalore Teachers and North East Teachers seats were counted in Bengaluru, while that of West Graduates at Dharwad in the state's northwest region and South-East Graduates at Gulbarga in the state's northern region. Voting in the biennial elections to the four seats was held to fill vacancies caused after the term of the incumbent lawmaker ended in June. The by-elections, however, could not be held in July due to the Covid-19 pandemic gripping the state since mid-March. In West Graduates, 70.11 per cent voting was recorded, followed by 75 per cent in South-East Graduates, 73.32 per cent in North-East Teachers and 66 per cent in Bangalore Teachers constituency. In all, 40 candidates from BJP, Congress, Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) and Independents were in the fray in all the four seats.
