A bench of justices Sanjiv Khanna, Sanjay Kumar and R Mahadevan posted the matter for hearing after six weeks after senior <keyword id="22757218" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="advocate-Abhishek-Singhvi" source="Orion">advocate Abhishek Singhvi</keyword>, appearing for <keyword id="19895701" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="kejriwal" source="keywords">Kejriwal</keyword>, sought some more time to work out a settlement. "We express regret but some more time may be given (for settlement). Currently, too many things are going on in this man's life," Singhvi submitted. Advocate Raghav Awasthi, appearing for the complainant, submitted that time may be given (to Kejriwal) but it should not be unlimited and some negotiations have to take place. Singhvi submitted that although he (Kejriwal) expresses regret for the tweet but it cannot be on his (complainant's) terms. The bench posted the matter for hearing after six weeks to enable the parties reach a settlement. Earlier, Kejriwal has admitted that he "committed a mistake" by retweeting the alleged defamatory video. On March 11, the top court asked Kejriwal whether he wanted to give an apology to the complainant in the matter. Kejriwal had on February 26 told the apex court that he made a mistake by retweeting the allegedly defamatory video related to the <keyword id="20738764" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BJP-IT-Cell" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="BJP IT Cell" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="BJP IT Cell">BJP IT Cell</keyword>. The counsel appearing for complainant Vikas Sankrityayan had told the top court that Kejriwal may issue an apology on social media platforms like microblogging platform 'X' or Instagram. On February 26, the apex court, without issuing notice on Kejriwal's plea challenging the high court order, had asked the complainant whether he wanted to close the matter in view of the petitioner accepting it was a mistake. The top court had asked the trial court not to take up the defamation case involving Kejriwal till further orders. In its February 5 verdict, the high court said that reposting alleged libellous content would attract the defamation law. It said a sense of responsibility has to be attached while retweeting content about which one does not have knowledge and added that retweeting defamatory content must invite penal, civil as well as tort action if the person retweeting it does not attach a disclaimer. The high court, while refusing to quash the trial court's 2019 order summoning Kejriwal, had said when a public figure tweets a defamatory post, the ramifications extend far beyond a mere whisper in someone's ears. It had said if the act of retweeting or reposting is allowed to be misused as it is still considered to be a vacant grey area of law, it will encourage people with ill intentions to misuse it and conveniently take a plea that they had merely retweeted a content. The chief minister had said in the high court that the trial court failed to appreciate that his tweet was not intended or likely to harm the complainant. Sankrityayan claimed the YouTube video titled 'BJP IT Cell Part II' was circulated by Rathee, who lives in Germany, "wherein a number of false and defamatory allegations were made".

Defamation case: Supreme Court defers hearing on Arvind Kejriwal's plea to enable settlement by six weeks

Despite scoring a narrow victory, BJP's Panaji assembly candidate Atanasio Monserrate on Thursday blamed the party's cadre and workers for unofficially supporting former Chief Minister late <keyword id="6363133" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="manohar-parrikar" source="Orion">Manohar Parrikar</keyword>'s son Utpal over him. Speaking to reports after claiming victory over <keyword id="7519855" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="utpal-parrikar" source="Orion">Utpal Parrikar</keyword> who contested as an independent candidate, Monserrate said BJP workers also worked against his wife Jennifer who contested the elections from adjoining Taleigao assembly seat, also on a BJP ticket. "I am telling you, I feel the BJP cadre has not accepted me in the party. I look at it that way. That is the reason. If he (Utpal) could get so many votes, it means the cadre shifted their votes to him. I can say only that the BJP leadership here did not manage to do damage control," Monserrate said, after claiming a victory with 700 odd votes. The result has not been formally announced by the Election Commission of India yet. "Secondly, BJP workers also worked against Jennifer. To give you one insight, the president of the BJP women's cell was sitting on the Congress table on the day of elections," he said. Monserrate and his wife Jennifer joined the BJP as a part of a 10-member breakaway unit of Congress legislators in 2019. "I never expected this result... The BJP has not accepted me in the party. I joined BJP two years ago, but the BJP cadre has not accepted me in the party. The party did nothing from day one," Monserrate said. When asked to respond to Monserrate's comments, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that he would "analyse them later". Describing the contest against Monserrate, Utpal Parrikar who made his electoral debut, said that the contest was a "good fight". Winning BJP candidate blames party for supporting Manohar Parrikar's son in Goa

BJP says it is confident about winning over 200 seats and forming government in West Bengal

<ul><li>Narendra Modi arrived at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s headquarters in Delhi to deliver his first speech after the vote count has predicted a historic election victory for the saffron party. </li></ul> To the popular, hard-working President, brother Amit Shah... To the BJP’s all esteemed colleagues and my brothers and sisters… Today, even the rain God has decided to join us in this celebration of victory. The people’s mandate for the 2019 Lok Sabha, we went to the people for a mandate for a new India. Today we can see that crores of India’s citizens have filled the jholi (satchel) of the fakir (a saint who has taken a vow of poverty). I bow my head before India’s 130 crore citizens. In the democratic world, just this electoral number of 2019 Lok Sabha elections — this victory — is in itself a big incident in the history of democracy. This is the biggest incident in the entire world. There have been so many elections since the country’s independence but since then, after so many elections, the highest voter turnout was in this election, and that too, amid temperatures of 40-45 degrees celsius. This in itself is Indian citizen’s awareness, India’s commitment to democracy, the entire world has to register, the entire world has to register and recognise India’s democratic prowess. On this occasion, in the celebration of democracy, to those people who have sacrificed for the sake of democracy, those who were injured, I offer my condolences. In the history of democracy, they have set an example that will inspire coming generations to lay down their lives for the sake. To the Election Commission, to the security forces, to those people who handled this celebration of democracy in the best way such that it increased everyone’s belief in democracy, for offering the arrangement to successfully conclude the process of elections, I want to offer my heartfelt congratulations. Friends, when the battle of Mahabharata ended, Lord Krishna was asked, “Who’s side were you on?” At that time, in the time of Mahabharata, the answer that Lord Krishna had give, today in the twenty first century, in the 2019 elections, the people of India, the 130 crore citizens, have given the same answer as Lord Krishna. In this journey from being split into two to this return for a second time, there have been many ups and downs. Friends, I as myself busy and because of that I couldn’t focus on the election results. And because of that, I don’t even know fully, what happened and where. But what the President said in detail, I, after tonight, will take time and see what happened through the day. But what the President said, this in itself will force India’s political pundits to leave their entire twentieth century theories. This is the 21st century and this is new India. Our victory in today’s election is followed by chants of ‘Modi, Modi, Modi’. This is not a vicotry for Modi. But, today’s victory is not a victory for Modi. This is a victory for the aspirations of every citizen of this country craving for honesty. This is victory of the young man who is walking with the dreams for the 21st century. This is a victory for that mother who, with all her self-respect and dignity, is desperate for a toilet. This is a victory for that sick man, who for 4-5 years could afford a treatment but today, he got his treatment and this is his blessing. This victory is for those farmers in the country who sweat it out, who starve their stomach to feed the country and take strange troubles. This is a victory for the 40 crore unorganised labourers who, for the first time… The people from the left may offered many ideas but this is the first government, which does not have the label of the left but it provided pension for 40 crore people, the unorganised labourers, and gave them a respectable life. This is their victory. Those who were homeless for long but today have pucca homes, it is their victory. It is a victory for them, who will get pucca homes by 2022. Brothers and sisters, this is a victory for the middle class families who kept following the law and the rules, who kept paying taxes for the welfare of the country but they never got respect or the belief that the tax that they are paying whether it does benefit the country. In the last five years, they experienced that what they pay is reaching the right place. The satisfaction that the middle class families feel has been seen in the results of this election. The strength of honesty has got an approval this election and has brought about a change in India. Brothers and sisters, in our country the election has happened like this. Otherwise you would have seen that for 30 continuous years in the country, especially-- although the drama has been going on for years--- it had become a fashion to do anything and wear a tag, which had become equal to taking a holy dip in the Ganges. The name of that fake tag was ‘secularism’ and there used to be chants “seculars come together”. You would have seen from 2014-19, that entire section has stopped talking. In this election, not even one political party has the guts to wear the mask of secularism to fool the country. They have been unmasked. Secondly, there has been no election in this country where the central focus hasn’t been inflation. This election has been such where not even one political party has accused us of inflation. All of India’s earlier elections where marred with the topic of corruption. Parties were forced to answer about corruption. This was the first election were any political party couldn’t accuse 5 years of administration with corruption charges. These things have been constant in India’s democracy and they were missing in India’s elections this time, and that’s why political pundits couldn’t understand on what scale should these things be measured. Brothers and sisters, this election has laid down the foundation for the 21st century’s social, public and political life. Those who want a brighter future for the country have built a new narrative with this election for unity of the nation, The weaker section of the society has forced the country to reconsider their old beliefs. Now, there are only two caste living in the country and the country is going to be focused on these two castes. In the 21th century, there is a caste in india, the poor, and other castes in the country who have some contribution to free them of poverty. There are the ones who want to come out of poverty and the one who wants to bring people out of poverty. We have to empower these two. We have to walk with this dream. Friends, this election is important because we have won with a massive mandate which has stunned the world for next 5 years. Take a moment, this is the time when India will celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary, when in 2022 India will celebrate 75 years of independence. This duration is like the time between 1942-1947, when the whole of India had one common goal in mind – freedom. Whatever people did – from leaving schools to going to jail, was all for freedom – it was a people’s revolution that brought freedom to the country . This duration of 2019-2024 will be to remember the martyrs of India’s freedom movement. During that time, the population was also not as much as today – 130 crore people and if we resolve then we can free the country of all problems. We have to take the country towards prosperity and be a developed country. We have to fulfil the basic needs of the poor in the country. We have to emulate the spirit of freedom during 1942-1947 for a prosperous India, then we can take the country to new heights. And that’s why friends, we have to accept this election results with humility. A government is formed with people’s mandate but keeping in mind the spirit of India’s democracy, we have to remember that the government works with inclusion. And that’s why who said what during the campaigns is in the thing in the past for me now. We have to look forward and move forward along with everyone – even the opposition, for the benefit of the country. And that’s why even after with this massive mandate we have to move forward with humility within the limits of the democracy. Constitution is supreme for us and we will follow every word of it to move forward. And every member of the BJP and every citizen of India, will have the same enthusiasm I’m sure. Brothers and sisters, this country has given us a lot. Today, in front of the country, I want to say something – I want to make Indians believe that you have filled the bowl of this beggar. My beloved citizens of India, you have filled the bowl of this beggar – with expectations, hopes and dreams. I understand the gravity of this but I will tell the country that in 2014 you didn’t know me much yet you trusted me. In 2019, after knowing me well you have given me more strength. I understand the feelings behind this decision very well. As Amit Shah said, after many years a selected government has come back to power more strength. This means that Indians have so much trust in us and as the trust increases, so does the responsibility. And that’s why I want to tell you – with the duty that you have given me, with the support all our friends in NDA have given us and the hard work they have put in – I will not do anything with bad intentions. I might make mistakes but none of them would be with a bad intention. Secondly, you have given me such a big responsibility, I want to reiterate that I won’t do anything just for myself. Thirdly, I want to say one thing publicly, every second of my time and every cell of my body is dedicated solely to the citizens of this country. Whenever you assess me, consider these three parameters. If I fall short of any expectations, then criticise me.but the things I say publicly, I will try to live up to those expectations. Full text of Modi’s first speech after historic election victory

NEW DELHI/BANGALORE: The <keyword id="58687" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Bharatiya-Janata-Party">Bharatiya Janata Party</keyword> has said that if it comes to power it will create a policy environment where companies such as Google, <keyword id="6354576" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Facebook">Facebook</keyword> and <keyword id="6363100" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Yahoo">Yahoo</keyword> will be encouraged to set up servers in India. 
 
An official who is part of BJP's information technology team said the party is in discussions with various foreign and Indian IT companies and is keen to provide policy support to firms that currently have their servers outside the country. 
 
"We are not forcing them, but it is our opinion that they should bring the data to India," said Vinit Goenka, national co-convenor of the IT cell of BJP, which is regarded as the frontrunner to form the government when results are declared on May 16. 
 
Goenka, who also oversees e-governance for BJP, said the government has failed to create a sustainable technology policy environment to encourage companies to host Indian internet users' data within the country amid rising concerns about data security and privacy. "We are losing revenue out of it, and it is also a security threat to us. So that is the whole idea." 
 
Concerns about data security increased after revelations by former US National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden last year that the American government had direct access to large amounts of personal data from companies like Google, Facebook and Yahoo. 
 
Over the past year, internet activists and privacy advocacy groups have been asking these companies to set up servers in India to ward off potential security threats and data breaches. 
 Government officials say companies such as Google and <keyword id="6354616" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Twitter">Twitter</keyword> often deny their requests on user information as they are not bound by Indian laws. 
 
"Why should most of the institutions in India have their data across the border, in other economies ... I don't doubt the intention of that country but tomorrow, for argument's sake, if they want to intrude into my data, they always can do that. So why should I leave this chance?" Goenka asked. 
 
Cyber security experts said the absence of local servers raises privacy concerns and can complicate investigation of internet-related matters. 
 
"These companies make huge amount of money from India, but they run away from the law," said Prashant Mali, an advocate specialising in cyber law and chairman of Mumbai-based Cyber Law Foundation. 
 
Mali said that at present y gathering personal information about an internet user as part of an investigation can take between six months to a year as the request has to be routed through the US-based internet company and then the home affairs department in New Delhi. 
 
"We believe that all sectors of the economy benefit from the ability to move data across borders. These benefits are due, in large part, to the advances in computing made possible by the internet -- which has lowered costs, increased productivity, and levelled the playing field," Google said in an emailed response to ET. Facebook did not offer comments.

NEW DELHI: Less than a month after the big-bang release of its poll anthem, BJP has quietly dropped the campaign song as its over-the-top projection of <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> was found to be an aggressive overkill. 
 The anthem’s lines spoken by Modi — “main desh nahin jhukne dunga ... main desh nahin mitne dunga (I will not let the nation bow down/be rubbed out)” — are seen as needlessly dire and apocalyptic. “The suggestion that the nation faces a threat to its existence is unwarranted. Getting Modi to speak the lines was also not a good decision as he comes through in ‘hard’ tones,” said a <keyword id="6356617" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="bjp-leader">BJP leader</keyword>. 
 
Party sources said Modi’s team had not been fully comfortable with the anthem’s pitch and formulation but had gone along with the assessment of the central campaign managers. By mid-April — the anthem was released on March 25 — there was a fairly wide consensus in the BJP brass that the theme needed to be further tweaked by projecting Modi in softer hues. 
 The Gujarat CM has taken the call himself, deciding to avoid a polarizing approach in his campaign in north Bihar, despite some BJP leaders feeling a political point could be made on JD (U) <keyword id="53129" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="candidate">candidate</keyword> Akhtarul Iman retiring from the fray in Kishanganj to facilitate “Muslim unity” against BJP. 
 
The saffron campaign is now expected to further elaborate on the “Modi aa gaya” theme with specifics like his pitch for “minimum government, maximum governance”. 
 
 
 
Modi’s recent campaign pitch, seeking 300 seats for NDA, aims at pulling in the floating vote while ensuring that supporters are motivated to turn out and vote. 
 
BJP managers, wary of criticism that the party is indulging in triumphalism, are concentrating on specific messages like “beti bachao, beti padao (save the girl child, educate her)” and job-oriented economic growth. 
 
It was also felt that a strongly negative campaign against the shortcomings of the ruling UPA had served its purpose and with feedback indicating a pro-Modi mood, the message now needs to be a lot less darker. 
 
The first hint that the anthem, composed by Prasoon Joshi and sung by Sukhwinder, may need to be altered came when BJP’s campaign advertisements were edited to retain only the lines spoken by Modi. 
 But these too have been withdrawn as the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate focuses on “positive” change as the 2014 <keyword id="6355187" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Lok-Sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword> election moves into its last phases with Modi seeking a clear mandate from voters. 
 
BJP leaders involved in planning Modi’s campaign said the party was making a big effort to “tap the vote” through booth level organization and using call centres to monitor voter response to the party’s poll pitch. 
 
In UP, for example, some 50-odd cells have been formed to coordinate various aspects of the campaign ranging from dispatch of video raths and identifying constituencies and areas needing last minute attention by way of resources or campaigns.

NEW DELHI: PM <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> will look to cement strategic and defence cooperation with Japan when he meets his counterpart <keyword id="590894" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Shinzo-Abe">Shinzo Abe</keyword> on Monday for crucial summit talks. In a move not likely to go unnoticed in Beijing, India is all set to ink an agreement for supply of rare earth metals to Japan and another MoU for defence exchanges. 
 
Japan, which depends on China for most of its supply of rare earth metals, has been looking to diversify its supply sources. It sought cooperation from India over rare earths in 2012 after a fracas with China over Senkaku/Diaoyu islands which saw Beijing temporarily halting rare earth exports to Japan. 
 
The two countries are expected to announce a joint partnership for infrastructure development in India with a major contribution from Japan. They are also likely to upgrade their 2+2 dialogue over overlapping security and defence issues to the ministerial level. India will also look to announce some progress in its negotiations with Japan for nuclear cooperation. 
 Modi arrived in <keyword id="4741" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Tokyo">Tokyo</keyword> on Sunday evening after a Kyoto heritage tour. Modi's visit is already being hailed as an outstanding success after Abe's gesture of flying to Kyoto to receive him there on Saturday. Modi on Sunday visited two ancient Buddhist temples in Kyoto in Abe's company.

Dressed in an all-white kurta pyjama, sleeveless jacket and white sandals, Modi offered prayers at the two prominent Buddhist temples in Kyoto — Toji and Kinkakuji. Official sources said Modi wearing white was a statement about peace and tranquility associated with Buddhism, an Indian “connect'' to Japan. 
 
He first went to Toji temple, which is inspired, as Modi told Abe, by the trinity of Hindu gods Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. Modi was at the temple complex for about half-an-hour during which he enquired about the history of the eighth-century Buddhist pagoda. 
 
While leaving the complex, Modi thanked Abe for accompanying him to the temple and spending time with him. Abe, on his part, told Modi that this was only the second time that he had visited Toji temple, the last being during his student days. 
 
In Kinkakuji, Modi mingled with tourists and visitors, shook hands, pulled the ears of a child and posed for photographs with groups of people.

Abe lauds deep India-Japan historical ties 
 
Lauding Japan's deep historical ties with India, Abe said he was looking forward to the summit meeting with Modi after they spent time together visiting Buddhist temples. “Looking forward to seeing PM Modi again in Tokyo tomorrow,” the Japanese PM tweeted. 
 
In a series of tweets on Sunday, Abe spoke about his nation's “deep historical ties” with India. “I am very glad that PM Modi enjoyed the cultural heritage of Japan's ancient capital, Kyoto,” Abe tweeted.

When Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Toji temple on Sunday morning, a lotus attached to a statue of Lord Buddha stood out, much to his amusement. 
 
Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, who was accompanying Modi during the tour of the ancient temple, wanted to explain the significance of the lotus. 
 
He started detailing the significance and was midway when an amused Modi pointed out that he knows about it. “I know its significance. It is the symbol of my party (BJP),” he told Abe and both had a laugh. 
 Modi did not elaborate but during the campaign for <keyword id="6355187" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Lok-Sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword> polls, he left no stone unturned in advertising the symbol. In the end, BJP got a landslide victory in the elections.

In Japan, Narendra Modi And Shinzo Abe Bond Over Temple Tour; Will Hold Talks Today

NEW DELHI: The results of the first poll on the performance of the <keyword id="6387077" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi-government">Narendra Modi government</keyword> are out. The <keyword id="6360789" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Modi-Government">Modi government</keyword> has met the expectations of half the people surveyed, while 30 per cent think that the performance has been below expectations. 
 The remaining 20 per cent seem to believe that the government has exceeded expectations, keeping the 'slide' in the past 10 years of <keyword id="26374" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="UPA-government">UPA government</keyword>. The poll was conducted among the 1,30,000 members of online community of 'Transform India with Modi' to gauge the public mood after 60 days of Modi government. 
 Thirty thousand members of the citizen-government engagement initiative responded to the poll. Launched by public policy expert Rajendra Pratap Gupta, a <keyword id="14666" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="BJP">BJP</keyword> member, the Local Circles community has members from various backgrounds like industry, employed professionals, investors, farmers, social activists, students, home makers, academicians, bureaucrats and senior citizens. 
 The communication cell of BJP is also associated with the community. Gupta was also incharge of penning down BJP's election manifesto on behalf of the manifesto committee led by <keyword id="58476" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Murli-Manohar-Joshi">Murli Manohar Joshi</keyword>. 
 
"Outstanding is the perfect word to describe the performance of the BJP led NDA government. If the elections are held today for four states (going to polls later this year), BJP on its own will win over 80 per cent of the seats" Gupta told ET. 
 
In a bid to keep the government on its toes, the poll is likely to become a regular feature, borrowing from USA's system of President's approval rating.

"Do not get intimidated by anyone. Do not bow down to any unconstitutional means. Do not be afraid of anyone and discharge your duties, based on merit, on this counting day," he wrote. "We owe it to future generations, a vibrant Democracy and a long-lasting Constitution, as penned by the makers of modern India," he said. The counting of votes polled in the Lok Sabha elections will be held on Tuesday. <div type="javascript" title="Custom" contenttype="Infographic"><cdata><![CDATA[]]></cdata></div> "In this hope that India remains truly Democratic in nature, I extend good wishes to each one of you, and expect that our eternal ideals of the Constitution remain untarnished," the Congress chief said. "The last decade has witnessed a systemic pattern to assault, undermine and suppress our autonomous institutions by the ruling party. India's Democratic ethos are being consequently damaged. There is a widespread tendency to turn India into a regimental dictatorship. "We are increasingly seeing some institutions shedding their independence and brazenly following the diktats of the ruling party. Some have completely adopted their style of communication, their way of functioning, and in some cases even their political rhetoric," Kharge said. But it is not their fault, he said. "With brute power, threat, coercive mechanisms and misuse of agencies, this tendency to bow to the powers that have become a way for their short-term survival. Even though, in this denigration, India's Constitution and Democracy have become a casualty." The Congress chief also said that the "will of the people" is supreme, and people want Indian bureaucracy to again be the same 'Steel frame of India' as envisaged by Sardar Patel. "Indian National Congress now urges the entire bureaucracy, to adhere to the Constitution, enact their duties, and serve the nation, without fear, favour and ill-will against anybody," Kharge said. Counting for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections would be held on Tuesday, and both the ruling NDA and the opposition INDIA bloc have claimed victory. Meanwhile, BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya shared a purported letter of the Congress in which it has asked all its cadres to reach the counting centres. However, there was no confirmation of the letter from the Congress. "<keyword id="1571" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="congress-party" source="Orion">Congress party</keyword>'s instruction to its workers' reads like a manual to riot...There is absolutely no merit in asking people to assembly in state and district offices because counting happens in a designated secure zone for each Lok Sabha, unless the idea is to unleash mobs and disrupt the process," Malviya said in a post on X while sharing the unsigned letter of the Congress.

The alleged scam has drawn in popular Hindi film actor, Ranbir Kapoor who has also been questioned in this investigation. Additionally, the BJP and the Congress are locked in a war of political allegations over this matter as the Chhattisgarh election draws near. Here is what we know so far about this multifaceted case. Why is Mahadev betting app back in news? The Indian central government has imposed blocking orders against 22 illegal betting apps and websites, including platforms like Mahadev Book Online and Reddyannaprestopro after an investigation into the Mahadev App. So, what does the Mahadev app do? The Mahadev Book App, before getting banned, provided a platform for betting on live games such as cricket, football, tennis, poker, etc. in India. Politics over Mahadev: The BJP vs Cong war of words Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar did not send any request to block these platforms despite having powers to do so alleges the Chhattisgarh government. However, in a post on social media platform X (earlier known as Twitter), Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said, "ED has been investigating the 'Mahadev App' case for several months. Still, it is surprising that it took so much time to ban it." He claimed that the demand to ban Mahadev App was also first made by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on August 24. What is the accusation against CM Baghel? The BJP has accused the state chief minister of being in the know about the scam. The Enforcement Directorate said a person, identified as Asim Das, was sent from the UAE to deliver a large amount of cash for the election expenses of the ruling Congress in Chhattisgarh.
