"It's always good if they have a PCR-Test done and land with a negative report. Then they can have two teats done 24 hours apart as the BCCI SOP mentions before we fly to the UAE," a senior franchise official said on conditions of anonymity. "While two tests are mandatory, most franchises will have at least four tests done before leaving India," he added. The players and support staff have been allowed to take their families along on the condition that all of them remain in the bio-bubble. However, it is learnt that players across teams are not too keen due to the strict quarantine protocols. "I have a five-year-old and I can't risk travelling with my family in this situation, health safety is paramount," a senior player said. As far as accommodation is concerned, one franchise is aiming to book a resort. Another might rent out a sprawling property in <keyword id="63248" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Abu-Dhabi">Abu Dhabi</keyword> with every staff, from security to chef, hired by them. There is another franchise which is booking a hotel in Abu Dhabi as it considers it the team's lucky base from the 2014 edition. While the squad strength, in terms of players, is restricted to 24, the BCCI has not put a cap on support staff. A couple of franchises will be taking up to 60 people, including full-fledged medical teams for daily health check-ups and the mandated COVID-19 testing of players every fifth day. "The BCCI has said every fifth day testing in UAE but if franchises want, they can ramp up the rate. As we have said earlier, any upgrade on the SOP is welcome. However, there is very less chance of the quarantine period getting reduced (from the mandatory six days)," a senior BCCI official said.  As per the news report published in the ET, a few <keyword id="14666" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="BJP">BJP</keyword> MPs had raised objections to a proposed India-Pakistan series. Modi had told his party men at a BJP parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday that the government has taken a decision to start a cricket series between the two countries to improve relations. 
 PCB chief Khan had said earlier this week, after a meeting with Indian cricket board president <keyword id="82274" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jagmohan-Dalmiya">Jagmohan Dalmiya</keyword>, that Pakistan was ready to host India in the UAE in December. 
 A <keyword id="160569" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="senior-official">senior official</keyword> told the financial daily that the home ministry had been broached for its views on the prospect of holding a India-Pakistan cricket series in the UAE and has conveyed that since the series is proposed in a third country, it falls outside the MHA remit. The <keyword id="6354852" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="official">official</keyword> said MHA view is that this is "purely a ministry of external affairs matter as it concerns international relations". "Had the series been proposed in India, we would have surely done a domestic assessment of the same considering the security scenarios. But a series in a third country is purely in the domain of the MEA. This has been conveyed by us," said a <keyword id="1735963" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="senior-home-ministry-official">senior home ministry official</keyword>, on condition of anonymity. 
 
The December series is likely to have three Tests, five ODIs and two T20 matches. Khan, however, was quoted as saying that there was one more hurdle to overcome. 
 A <keyword id="306885" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="senior-BCCI-official">senior BCCI official</keyword> said Khan was referring to differences between the two boards on broadcast rights as PCB has an association with Ten <keyword id="6356028" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sports">Sports</keyword>, owned by <keyword id="2850930" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Subhash-Chandra-run">Subhash Chandra-run</keyword> Zee group. According to the report, the frequency of the mega auctions and the auction purse were among the other points discussed. After the meeting, the Delhi-based franchise co-owner Parth Jindal said that some teams want the impact player rule because it gives a chance to the young players to play in the T20 tournament. "Some people want it because it gives a chance to young players to play in the IPL. Some people don't want it because it is detrimental to Indian cricket in terms of the development of allrounders. So it's a mixed bag. I'm on the second camp. I don't want it. I prefer the game as it is 11 versus 11, and I think allrounders are very important. And you have different players who don't bowl in the IPL or don't bat in the IPL because of this rule, which is not good for Indian cricket," Jindal was quoted by ESPNcricinfo as saying. The report stated that Sunrisers Hyderabad owner Kavya Maran suggested that "players could be secured via a plain retention process or a combination of retention and RTM at the auction or all exclusively via the right-to-match (RTM) card." As per the reports, the IPL 2024 winner Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) asked BCCI that eight players should be bought back exclusively via the RTM method. The co-owner of Delhi Capitals added that he was 'surprised' to see that few franchises were against the <keyword id="21154992" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mega-auction" source="keywords">mega auction</keyword>. "I was surprised. There was a debate. Some people said that there should not be a mega auction at all. There should be only smaller auctions. I'm not in that camp. The development comes after PCB chief Najam Sethi made it clear that the team will not travel for the World Cup in India if the Rohit Sharma led side doesn't visit Pakistan for the preceding Asia Cup. “The ICC and World Cup hosts, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are concerned with the hybrid model being pushed by Najam Sethi who heads the cricket management committee of the PCB. “Although the hybrid model has been suggested by Sethi for the Asia Cup which precedes the ICC event, the concern remains that once accepted for the regional event the PCB might also then ask the ICC to implement it for the World Cup when it comes to Pakistan playing in India,” he explained. Sethi has already indicated that if the Pakistan government doesn't give clearance or has security concerns about sending the team to India, PCB could ask the ICC to hold Pakistan's matches at a neutral venue. “Naturally neither the ICC nor the BCCI want such a situation since Pakistan's unequivocal participation in matches in India would guarantee the success of Indo-Pakistan matches and also the tournament itself.” Another source said this was the primary reason why BCCI secretary Jay Shah was still reluctant to accept the hybrid model for the Asia Cup and support having three or four matches of the tournament in Pakistan and the remaining games in UAE or Sri Lanka. Pakistan are the hosts of the Asia Cup and Sethi has said repeatedly that if the tournament is moved to one neutral country from Pakistan, it will not take part in the competition. ICC top brass seeks PCB assurances that it will send team to India for ODI World Cup

A COVID-19 outbreak hit the Indian cricket team on Wednesday as three main players -- senior opener <keyword id="17805" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shikhar-dhawan" source="Orion">Shikhar Dhawan</keyword>, reserve opener <keyword id="4238575" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ruturaj-gaikwad" source="Orion">Ruturaj Gaikwad</keyword> and middle-order batter <keyword id="982208" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shreyas-iyer" source="Orion">Shreyas Iyer</keyword> -- tested positive for the virus during their mandatory isolation period before the start of West Indies series. Four other persons, including net bowler Navdeep Saini, have also tested positive for COVID-19. Saini is also on standby list. The remaining three who tested positive for the virus are non-playing members -- fielding coach T Dilip, security liaison officer B Lokesh and masseur Rajeev Kumar. "The All-India Senior Selection Committee has added Mayank Agarwal to India's ODI squad after seven members, including three players of Team India (Senior Men) tested positive for COVID-19 following three rounds of RT-PCR testing," BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a statement. The Indian team assembled in Ahmedabad on January 31 for the upcoming white-ball series against the West Indies and were going through a three-day isolation period post their break from the South Africa series. The series starts in Ahmedabad on February 6 with India's 1000th ODI match but it is now a foregone conclusion that the trio will be missing the series as they will have to undergo a week-long isolation and then return with two negative RT-PCR tests. Shah gave a lowdown of the sequence of positive cases in the India camp. "Opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan and fast bowler Navdeep Saini's (standby player) RT-PCR tests conducted on Monday (January 31st) have returned positive results,' Shah stated in the release. "Fielding Coach T. Dilip and Security Liaison Officer B. Lokesh's RT-PCR tests conducted on Monday (January 31st) have returned positive results. Batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad's RT-PCR test conducted on Tuesday (February 1st) has returned a positive result. He had tested negative during the first round of testing on Monday," the release further stated. "Batsman Shreyas Iyer and Sports Massage Therapist Rajeev Kumar's RT-PCR tests conducted on Wednesday (February 2nd) have returned positive results. Both had tested negative in the first two rounds of testing." The BCCI medical team is handling the positive cases and the infected persons will remain in isolation till complete recovery is attained. "The players are largely asymptomatic and hopefully will be fine by the end of the isolation period. You feel bad for Shikhar as he might have to miss the series and he is not a part of T20 squad," an official said. Even more disappointing is young Ruturaj Gaikwad's case as this is the second time in one and a half years that he has tested positive for COVID-19. "If you remember, Ruturaj had tested positive in UAE during the 2020 IPL and went through hell. He had a 14-day quarantine back then and missed first part of the season in the Emirates. This is the second time he has tested positive," the official added. It is confirmed that captain Rohit Sharma, senior players like Virat Kohli and coach Rahul Dravid have all tested negative as of Wednesday. "They have returned negative as of today." All those who tested negative will complete their mandatory isolation on Thursday. They will enter the bubble, if they test negative again on Thursday. "The testing protocol set by BCCI medical team is for every day RT-PCR as RAT (Rapid Antigen Test) is often not conclusive. Although teams are supplied with RAT kits in case any player shows symptoms and wants to do a self test," the official said. It is expected that M Shahrukh Khan, R Sai Kishore, Rishi Dhawan, who are stand byes for the series, will now get a look-in to be in the squad. As far as Rohit Sharma's opening partner is concerned, Mayank's inclusion makes it clear that team management is not looking at Ishan Kishan or Venkatesh Iyer for the slot. It must be noted that all the players had tested negative in RT-PCR when they embarked on their journey to Ahmedabad from their respective cities. "The members were asked to report in Ahmedabad on 31st January 2022 for the upcoming three-match ODI and T20I series against West Indies. Every member was also asked to undergo an RT-PCR test at home before embarking on their journey to Ahmedabad and the travel was undertaken only after testing negative," the BCCI said.
