Aman and Kartika, who live in Delhi, want to get married but trouble follows them when Aman’s father catches them kissing — and there start panic attacks to fake suicide attempts. The film is set before India revoked Section 377 that criminalised gay sex. Ayushman Khurrana wins hearts with Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan — eyes ₹30 crore in 3 days

There are at least three movies this year, the storyline where the protagonist suffers from hair loss. So much so, makers of one of the films--Ujda Chaman staring Sunny Singh of Sony ki Tittu ki Sweety fame-- filed a legal case against the makers of Ayushman Khurana’s Bala. The trailers of both the films promises the same story of a single man’s losing fight with — premature baldness. Amidst the melee, yet another movie with the same story line released, drawing little attention. Gone Kesh starring Shwetha Tripathi also tells the story of a young girl Enakshi who wants to get married but unable to because of her a medical condition called alopecia — an autoimmune disorder that often results in hair loss. The film was released in March this year and reportedly earned ₹1.3 crores on the day of release. But the real fight is between Bala and Ujda Chaman. Apart from the same plot, the look of two actors and dialogues are too similar to miss. Strangely both the films will hit the theatres within a gap of 24 hours. Bala will release on November 7 — a week before its original schedule — while Ujda Chaman will hit the theatres a day later, on November 8. Ujda Chaman’s director Abhisekh Pathak claims his film is an official remake of <keyword id="4293900" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="ondu-motteya-kathe">Ondu Motteya Kathe</keyword> a 2017 Kannada movie. Bala’s director Amar Kaushik however stands strong on the originality of his film. "I am away from all of this. I am doing a film, I am also getting to know that this film ('Bala') is kind of similar. Initially you feel like 'why and how is this happening?' but then you feel it's ok. He's playing his part, I am playing mine. We both are actors doing our jobs. I love him and I'm a fan of his acting," said Sunny Singh, the actor of Ujda Chaman. The 69th Hyundai Filmfare Awards 2024 with Gujarat Tourism was held in GIFT City, Gujarat. The festival concluded on Sunday with an awards ceremony that was hosted by Karan Johar, Ayushmann Khurrana and Maneish Paul. Bhatt's co-star <keyword id="19978371" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shabana-azmi" source="keywords">Shabana Azmi</keyword> in "Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani" won best supporting actress award but film's lead star Ranveer Singh lost the trophy to <keyword id="19909122" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ranbir" source="keywords">Ranbir</keyword> Kapoor. "12th Fail" star Vikrant Massey won best actor (critics) Filmfare. The film also won in the screenplay and editing categories. Best actress (critics) trophy was shared by Rani Mukerji ('Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway') and Shefali Shah ('Three of Us'). "Three of Us" director Avinash Arun Dhaware won the trophy for the film's cinematography. Manoj Bajpayee-starrer "Joram" won best film (critics) award as well as best story recognition for Amit Rai and Devashish Makhija. Amitabh Bhattacharya's "Tere Vaaste" from "Zara Hatke Zara Bachke" won best lyrics while Shilpa Rao was recognised as the best female playback singer for "Besharam Rang" from "Pathaan". Increasing roles but not being cast While Bollywood might seem to be taking one step forward, it has brought out many issues – be it roles for the community and of course, casting transgenders for the roles. The apathy towards LGBTQ+ community is also affecting artists who intend to find their place in the showbiz which has been expanding thanks to the number of web series and more under production. Yet, it’s falling short of people to accommodate them. Transgender actor Sushant Divgikar criticises the casting of cisgender actors as transgender characters in Bollywood. This comes as Bollywood is making several movies on gender diversity but tends to cast popular actors instead of the ‘right’ fit. “If a transgender person is not allowed to play a transgender character on screen in a film, they are not allowed to play a man in a film and transgender people are not allowed to play women in a film so what do transgender artists play? transgender trees in the back?” asks Divgikar on his Instagram. Divgikar is quite vocal about challenges faced by <keyword id="1218847" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lgbtq-community" source="Orion">LGBTQ community</keyword> in society and Bollywood. Sharing another such experience on gender disparity on Youtube, Divgikar revealed that they were auditioning for a toothpaste ad when the casting director told them even before they entered the room, “You are too gay for this advertisement.” Yet, not all is lost. A few actors from the community have found their standing. Jim Sarbh, a popular actor who played a key role in the superhit movie Padmavaat, also plays a role in Made in India. In the popular Amazon Prime Video series, he plays a straight character. “It was really difficult playing a heterosexual male so that was a first big challenge that I had to overcome, what cultural significance would be here and whether people will accept it,” <a href="https://www.facebook.com/YesWeExistIndia/videos/1246256258883966/">he said sarcastically in an interview </a>as he believes there is still socia stigma around the community. While the number of shows and movies portraying queer connection are increasing – large numbers are played by A-list actors like Sonam Kapoor, Fawad Khan, Ayushmann Khurana, Manoj Bajpai and more. ‘It was the most challenging film because I have never done such a character before’, <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/entertainment/bollywood/aligarh-was-most-challenging-film-for-me-manoj-bajpayee/">said Manoj about playing a gay character </a>that was named Siras in Aligarh. India has a long way to go in terms of gender issues and is still struggling to get many aspects like casting and treatment of women. Case in point is the controversy created by Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh which was criticized for toxic masculinity. Thappad was touted to be a response to Kabir Singh. “Everyone should do one thing they feel will take us towards gender equality – and getting rid of stereotypes and conditioning will surely be a step in that direction,” said Tapsee Pannu who played the protagonist in the movie.
