The Bill seeks to merge three Ayurveda institutes into one institution -- Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda. The Bill declares the institute to be an institution of national importance. The Bill was moved by Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan in the absence of Ayush Minister Sripad Naik, who is recovering from Covid-19. Harsh Vardhan said, "The ministry is giving deemed university status to the institutes in various parts of the country and the matter is referred to the UGC and Education Ministry." The Minister said that there are 103 institutes of national importance, but there was none in Ayurveda. He said the Jamnagar institute has been chosen because this is one of the oldest institutes of the country founded by the Government of India in 1956. Many MPs from the TRS, Bodoland People's Front, AIADMK, CPM, BSP and others demanded similar institutes in other states also. The Chairman, M. Venkiah Naidu, said, "The minister should take into consideration the demand of such institutes in every state." Congress leader L. Hanumanthiah raised objections during the discussion. He said, "Why Gujarat is given so much importance and Kerala should also be given prominence, which is a pioneer of the Ayurveda." While Thambidurai AIADMK member supported the Bill, he demanded a National Institute of Siddha in Tamil Nadu. Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal raised the issue of mental health and said House the mental counselling is needed in Covid times. RJD MP Manoj Jha demanded a regulator for the Ayurvedic medicines so that no misuse takes place. He cited the claims made by Ramdev that he has made medicine for Covid-19. The Bill seeks three institutes to be merged -- the Institute of Post Graduate Teaching and Research in Ayurveda, Shree Gulabkunverba Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Jamnagar, and, the Indian Institute of Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Sciences, all in Jamnagar. The proposed Institute will be situated in the campus of Gujarat Ayurveda University, Jamnagar. The Institute will be developed on the patterns of teaching in medical education in Ayurveda and pharmacy, bring together educational facilities for training of personnel in all branches of Ayurveda, and attain self-sufficiency in postgraduate education to meet the need for specialists and medical teachers in Ayurveda, also make an in-depth study and research in the field of Ayurveda. The Bill provides that the Institute will consist of 15 members and the Director of the Institute of Post Graduate Teaching and Research in Ayurveda, Jamnagar will be appointed as the first Director of the Institute. The Bill states that there will be a Governing Body of the Institute, which will exercise powers and such functions of the Institute, as specified. Rajya Sabha passes Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda Bill

New Delhi, Mar 5 () Assurance of good-quality Ayurveda products and ensuring involvement of certified professionals in the segment will help find global traction for the sector, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Thursday. "When we add quality assurance to different forms of Ayurveda, when we ensure that people who are engaged in Ayurveda are well-certified professionals and the products that are being sold are ensured to have good quality, you will find very good traction for Ayurveda all across the world," he said. He was speaking at the curtain-raiser programme of the Global Ayurveda Festival 2020. The minister urged the industries involved in the sector to focus on quality and standards. This wave has also inspired the other two companies to pull up their socks and cash on to the increading popularity of Ayurvedic products. 
 The reason why some of these companies dealing in Ayurvedic products, like Vicco, Sandu, <keyword id="277948" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Amrutanjan">Amrutanjan</keyword> and <keyword id="589160" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="charak">Charak</keyword>, were not able to attract Indians to them was their limited portfolio, which never went beyond the traditional products. However, Patanjali sells products ranging from detergents and toothpaste to ghee, atta and noodles in an FMCG market, thereby making Ayurvedic products a big deal in India. 
 
This success of Patanjali Ayurved has inspired other gurus like Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, Ram Rahim as well as Aurobindo Ashram to enter the consumer segment with Ayurveda-centric products. 
 However, Kolkata-based Baidyanath is of the opinion that they don’t need to rival Patanjali, <keyword id="62997" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dabur">Dabur</keyword> or <keyword id="26169" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="himalaya">Himalaya</keyword> in the core FMCG segments. "We have been here for 100 years and want to survive another century in a sustainable way. No point getting into all FMCG segments and be a fringe player," Ameve Sharma, its third-generation scion, told ET. 
 
Coming back to Patanjali, why a company the originated in 1997 as a small pharmacy has reached these heights? The reason is the nonconventional approach of catering to categories like noodles, oats and detergents. 
 "What we have done is consistently focused on quality and pricing. Ask consumers about our product quality. Why are repeat purchases coming? New Delhi, Mar 17 () The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has dismissed a petition filed by Kerala Ayurveda challenging an NCLT order that held claims by Tata Global Beverages (now Tata Consumer) against the company as 'financial debt'. A two-member NCLAT bench headed by Acting Chairperson Justice B L Bhat said that the Kochi bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) is yet to pass any final order over the insolvency plea filed by Tata Global Beverages Ltd (TGBL) against Kerala Ayurveda Ltd (KAL). The appellate tribunal said it was "premature" to decide about the claim at this stage, as the NCLT would pass order over insolvency only after considering debt along with default and can appeal against that order before it. "The appeal is accordingly, dismissed as being premature leaving it open to the learned Adjudicating Authority (NCLT) to decide the application on merit and in the event of the Appellant being aggrieved of order of admission passed under Section 7, it shall be open to the Appellant to raise all issues in appeal," said NCLAT.KAL had challenged the order of NCLT, which had on February 10, 2020 held a default of Rs 4.25 crore claimed by TGBL as financial debt.It has contended that the advance paid as per the terms of the agreement dated June 28, 2013 by TGBL is Inter Corporate Deposit (ICD). KAL further contended that claim of TGBL arises out of a claim for providing goods and services, which is a share in the intellectual property of the product developed by it and cannot be classified as a financial debt but an operational debt.Moreover, as per the agreement, disputes shall be resolved by initiating arbitration proceedings.However, NCLT oserved that interlocutory application for referring the matter to arbitration is filed by KAL only after filing an interim counter. TGBL had approached NCLT, filing application under section 7 of IBC to initiate insolvency proceedings against KAL.The Tata group firm had earlier signed MoU with KAL to explore formation of a joint venture to develop products based on proven ayurvedic recipes and to market them globally on December 27, 2010.Subsequently, a joint development agreement, effective from November 1, 2011 was entered into between the parties whereby it was agreed that KAL will develop ayurvedic products, and TGBL will have a right to hold the intellectual property over the products jointly developed, by reimbursing 50 per cent development cost to KAL. Ayurveda – the field of alternative medicine has gained immense popularity in the wake of COVID-19. The ancient practice of Ayurveda with <keyword id="3658" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> as its land of origin can lead the fight against coronavirus, said a <a href="https://www.newsbreak.com/news/0OtB5GOp/ayurveda-silently-battling-covid-19">seasoned Clinical Assistant Professor </a>of Medicine from Weill Cornell Medical College in New York. In May, the central government also launched three Central AYUSH (The Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga &amp; Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) ministry-based studies related to COVID-19. However, so far the government hasn’t derived any remedy in Ayurveda for coronavirus. Acharya Balakrishna, the chairman of Patanjali, had earlier said that trials are going on to see the potential of Ayurveda in the cure of coronavirus. “The proposed treatment regime is designed to add efficacy and potency of Ayurvedic medicines in treating COVID-19 infection in combination with ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) approved Hydroxychloroquine. By Aditi Khanna London, Apr 4 () Prince Charles, who came out of self-isolation to remotely inaugurate the UK's first makeshift National Health Service field hospital here on Friday, recovered from his COVID-19 symptoms by following NHS advice, his office said on Saturday.Clarence House refuted reports from India which claimed that the Prince of Wales' recovery after testing positive for coronavirus last week had a link to Ayurvedic and homeopathy cure from a resort in south India.Union Minister of State for AYUSH Shripad Naik claimed earlier this week that Dr Isaac Mathai, who runs the Soukya Ayurveda Resort in Bengaluru, told him that his treatment of "Prince Charles through Ayurveda and homeopathy has been successful"."This information is incorrect. The Prince of Wales followed the medical advice of the NHS in the UK and nothing more," a Clarence House spokesperson said.Charles, 71, has been a vocal supporter of Ayurveda over the years and had joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his UK visit in April 2018 at the Science Museum in London for the launch of a new Ayurvedic Centre of Excellence, aimed at creating a first-of-its-kind global network for evidence-based research on yoga and Ayurveda."You may be aware of Soukya because of its royal connections (Camilla and Charles love it here) and its high profile VIP clients. We know it as a very serious health sanctuary offering the best in Ayurveda healing – a cure-it-all bolthole founded by the esteemed Dr Isaac Mathai," notes the website of the Soukya resort in Bengaluru, reportedly frequented by the heir to the British throne.However, Naik's claim that the resort had a direct link with the royal's recovery from coronavirus symptoms this week has been dismissed.Meanwhile, the royal continues to work from his home in Scotland and hailed the hard work of NHS staff as he opened the new 4,000-bed NHS Nightingale Hospital created on the site of the ExCel conference centre in London to add to the health service capacity in its fight against the pandemic."I can only offer my special thoughts and prayers to all those who will receive care within it and let us hope that it will not be too long before this terrible disease has left our land," Charles said, as he conducted the first virtual plaque unveiling in British royal history via video link.Earlier this week, after his seven-day self-isolation period ended on Monday, he recorded a message from his desk at his Birkhall home on Queen Elizabeth II's Balmoral estate in Scotland.He said: "Having recently gone through the process of contracting this coronavirus – luckily with relatively mild symptoms – I now find myself on the other side of the illness, but still in no less a state of social distance and general isolation."None of us can say when this will end, but it will end.
