These five mutual fund houses comprise more than 55% of the industry’s total assets under management (AUM) of ₹35.31 lakh crore. Zomato was listed on exchanges on July 27 with a 51% premium. While some analysts believe that the valuation is too expensive for a loss making company, some feel it is a futuristic company and bound to grow. These large fund houses have bought more than a crore shares of the food delivery company in July. The market capitalisation of companies listed on the <keyword id="35140" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSE">BSE</keyword> reached the $3 trillion mark for the first time in its history. Taking to Twitter, BSE CEO Ashish Chauhan congratulated the investors, brokers, mutual fund distributors and companies. "Market capitalization of equities of listed companies on @bseindia reached USD 3 trillion intra day for the first time ever. A great milestone on a long journey. Congratulations to all 6.9 crore+ registered investors, 1400+ brokers,69,000+ MF distributors and 4700 + companies," he said. At the end of the day's trade, the market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies stood at Rs 2,18,94,202.30 crore ($3 trillion). Earlier in the day, the market capitalisation crossed Rs 219 lakh crore. The Indian stock market closed in the green on Monday with the BSE <keyword id="6484188" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="sensex">Sensex</keyword> closing 111 points higher. Healthy buying was witnessed in the banking and oil and gas stocks. Selling in metal and telecom stocks, however, capped the gains on the indices. The trading session, however, was volatile amid mixed global cues. The BSE Sensex closed at 50,651.90, higher by 111.42 points, or 0.22 per cent, from its previous close of 50,540.48. It opened at 50,727.28 and touched an intra-day high of 50,857.59 and a low of 50,465.90 points. The Nifty50 on the <keyword id="53581" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="NATIONAL-STOCK-EXCHANGE">National Stock Exchange</keyword> settled at 15,197.70, higher by 22.40 points, or 0.15 per cent, from its previous close. Market cap of BSE-listed companies hits $3 trillion for the first time as markets rally

Mumbai, Apr 27 () Indian equities on Monday closed significantly higher despite paring notable intra-day gains, as financial stocks came to life on the Reserve Bank's move to offer Rs 50,000 crore liquidity support to mutual funds. At close, the BSE gauge Sensex was up 415.86 points or 1.33 per cent at 31,743.08. The index tumbled 360 points from its day's high of 32,103. Similarly, the NSE barometer Nifty settled higher by 127.90 points or 1.40 per cent at 9,282.30. On the Sensex chart, 25 scrips closed in the green. IndusInd Bank was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rallying over 6 per cent, ahead of its earnings announcement. Axis Bank, Kotak Bank, ICICI Bank and Bajaj Finance too surged up to 5 per cent. On the other hand, NTPC, M&amp;M, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel and ITC were the laggards. Sectorally, bank, finance, basic materials, realty, healthcare and IT indices rallied up to 3.54 per cent. While BSE power index was the only loser among the 19 indicies. In the broader market, midcap and smallcap indices outperformed the Sensex, rising up to 1.44 per cent. The Indian market was also lifted by positive sentiment on Asian bourses as hope for more monetary policy easing by global central banks gained further traction after Bank of Japan stepped up its stimulus to contain virus shock to its economy. Broadly, the domestic market was driven by the Reserve Bank's announcement of a special liquidity facility of Rs 50,000 crore for mutual funds, with an aim to ease liquidity pressures on mutual funds. Some profit-booking at the fag-end of the session, however, pulled key indices from the day's highs. "Markets closed positive in sync with the global markets. News regarding the RBI liquidity facility for mutual funds and stimulus packages from central banks around the world provided some positivity to the markets," Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services, said. Investors are looking towards earnings results coming out later and during the week for more clarity on the specific sectors, he said. Meanwhile, besides special liquidity facility for mutual funds, the central bank stressed that it is vigilant and will take whatever steps are necessary to mitigate the economic impact of COVID-19 and preserve the financial stability. On the currency front, the rupee rose 21 paise to close at 76.25 against the US dollar. Globally, bourses in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Seoul ended with significant gains, while those in Europe were trading on a positive note. Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures slump 4.03 per cent to USD 23.81 per barrel. Global tally of coronavirus infections has crossed 29.7 lakh, with over 2 lakh deaths. Sensex, Nifty spurt as RBI steps in to ease MF's liquidity woes

A recent report by Axis AMC shed light on the burgeoning Indian mutual fund industry. Since March 2021, the MF industry has grown at a CAGR (compounded annual growth rate) of 23.65%, touching an AUM (asset under management) of Rs 67.25 lakh crore in October 2024. <keyword id="20300870" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Equity-Mutual-Funds" source="keywords">Equity mutual funds</keyword>, which garnered Rs 41,886.69 crore during the month, saw a 58.96% YoY growth. The biggest contributor to the equity segment was sectoral funds, which captured 29.3% of net equity sales in October 2024. In all, they brought in Rs 12,278.78 crore during October 2024. The AUM of <keyword id="20890471" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hybrid-Funds" source="keywords">hybrid funds</keyword> also stood at Rs 9.24 lakh crore during the month, registering an annual growth of 47.8% and inflows worth Rs 16,863.30 crore during October 2024. Amidst this, the arbitrage funds led in net sales, capturing 3.61% of their AUM with monthly inflows worth Rs 7,181.70 crores. There and more people are entering the Indian markets, as is evident in the growing SIP corpus (Systematic Investment Plans), which saw contributions worth Rs 25,323 crore in October 2024, a 54.7% year-over-year growth. In October 2024, about 63,69,919 new SIPs were registered, taking the number of SIP accounts to a record high of 10,12,34,212 The growth in equity investments was largely led by retail investors and HNIs (high-net-worth individuals). Since March 2021, the retail segment in mutual funds has seen a 31.2% CAGR, while banks and foreign investors have recorded a CAGR of 31.8% during the same period. Corporations were the biggest contributors to debt mutual funds. Notably, the AUM of debt funds grew 14.8% over the previous year to stand at Rs 10,65,037 crore as of October 2024. The category saw net sales worth Rs 47,699 crore last month. Also testimony to the growing interest of investors in mutual funds were the figures of <keyword id="23958398" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Passive-Mutual-Funds" source="keywords">passive mutual funds</keyword>, which recorded net sales worth Rs 8,025 crore during the month. Out of this, just index funds observed net sales of Rs 7,931 crore in the previous month. AUM from the top 30 Indian cities grew at 22.6% CAGR, whereas other cities grew at 27.8% CAGR since March 2021. FY25 also seemed to be the year where NFOs received an enthusiastic response from investors. So far, a total of 124 NFO schemes have managed to collect a total of over Rs 77,932 crore.
