Markets regulator <keyword id="35210" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sebi" source="Orion">SEBI</keyword> on Tuesday said it has recovered pending dues worth Rs 6.57 crore from Sahara India Real Estate Corporation, its chief <keyword id="31933" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="subrata-roy" source="Orion">Subrata Roy</keyword>, and others in the case pertaining to flouting norms in issuance of optionally fully convertible debentures. "In view of the payment of the amount of Rs 6.57 crore due under the certificate, the said certificate is hereby completed," the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) said in its recovery order. The amount included interest and other charges. The regulator in December ordered the attachment of bank and demat accounts of Sahara India Real Estate Corporation (now known as Sahara Commodity Services Corporation), Subrata Roy, <keyword id="1595961" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ashok-roy-choudhary" source="Orion">Ashok Roy Choudhary</keyword>, Ravi Shanker Dubey and <keyword id="15891249" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vandana-bharrgava" source="Orion">Vandana Bharrgava</keyword> to recover Rs 6.42 crore for violating regulatory norms in the issuance of OFCDs (Optionally Fully Convertible Debentures). This amount included interest, all costs, charges and expenses. The recovery proceedings were initiated against these entities after they failed to pay Rs 6 crore fine imposed on them by SEBI in June 2022. The case relates to the issuance of OFCDs by Sahara India Real Estate Corporation and Sahara Housing Investment Corporation during 2008-09. The companies raised money through the public issue of securities by issuing OFCDs without following the various procedures intended to protect the interest of the investors, in respect of public issues, prescribed under the norms. According to SEBI, the subscription towards the OFCDs was solicited by the two companies from the general public throughout the country, without adequately informing them about the risks involved in the instruments. The issuance was allegedly done in contravention of the provisions of the SEBI's ICDR (Issue of Capital and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations and PFUTP (Prohibition of Fraudulent and Unfair Trade Practices). SEBI recovers dues worth ₹6.57 crore from Sahara Group firms, Subrata Roy & others

SpiceJet Ltd on Monday said it has hived off its cargo and logistics business <keyword id="6866514" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SpiceXpress" source="Orion">SpiceXpress</keyword> into a separate entity -- SpiceXpress and Logistics Pvt Ltd, from April 1. The move results in a one-time gain of Rs 2,555.77 crore for SpiceJet, substantially reducing its negative net worth, the company said. It also paves the way for SpiceXpress to raise funds independently, SpiceJet said. The decision to hive off SpiceXpress is in sync with the company's long-term business plan and will unlock significant valuation of the logistic business, SpiceJet Ltd Chairman Ajay Singh said. Singh further said "the separation of our cargo and logistics arm is a stepping stone in our growth story which shall unfold in the times to come". SpiceXpress reported a net profit of Rs 51.4 crore for the April-December period of FY23. "In a bid to boost the growth of its cargo business and provide a more streamlined and efficient service to its customers, SpiceJet Ltd has completed the hive off of its cargo and logistics division 'SpiceXpress' into a separate entity, SpiceXpress and Logistics Private Limited," the company said. The consideration for the slump-sale will be discharged by SpiceXpress by issuance of securities in the combination of equity shares and compulsorily convertible debentures to SpiceJet for an aggregate amount of Rs 2,555.77 crore which will also strengthen the balance sheet of SpiceJet, it said. According to Singh, "SpiceXpress will provide greater and differentiated focus to cargo and logistics business and will allow the possibility of raising capital for the business to accelerate its growth". Both SpiceJet and SpiceXpress have great potential and will complement each other well, he added. He also said that the hive off will not only enable SpiceXpress to raise cash independently, it will significantly reduce SpiceJet's negative net worth. "Having restructured over USD 100 million, outstanding dues to Carlyle Aviation Partner last month, the hive off will further strengthen and deleverage our balance sheet," Singh said. SpiceJet hives off cargo & logistics biz into separate entity from Apr 1

At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened weak at 82.44 against the dollar, then fell to 82.46, registering a decline of 25 paise over its last close. On Friday, the rupee settled at 82.21 against the dollar. The <keyword id="75201" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dollar-index" source="Orion">dollar index</keyword>, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, rose 0.48 per cent to 102.99. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, advanced 5.50 per cent to USD 84.28 per barrel. "... Appreciation in rupee shall remain limited to 81.50-81.80 zone where importer can target buying and upside shall for now remain protected towards 82.70-82.90 region for this week," CR Forex Advisors MD-Amit Pabari said. "With a holiday shortened week, highlights would be the RBI policy due on April 6 and US payrolls due on April 7," Pabari added. The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Reserve Bank will be meeting for three days on April 3, 5 and 6 to take into account various domestic and global factors before coming out with the first bi-monthly monetary policy for fiscal 2023-24. The RBI has already increased the repo rate by a total of 250 basis points since May in a bid to contain inflation though it has continued to remain above the central bank's comfort zone of 6 per cent for most of the time. In the domestic equity market, the 30-share BSE Sensex was trading 64.56 points or 0.11 per cent lower at 58,926.96. The broader NSE Nifty declined 9.60 points or 0.06 per cent to 17,350.15. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers in the capital markets on Friday as they purchased shares worth Rs 357.86 crore, according to exchange data. Weighed down by crude prices, Rupee falls 25 paise to 82.46/USD

<ul><li>A team of researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have developed special proteins to help save the lungs of Coronavirus patients. </li><li>The immune system’s overreaction can cause a ‘<keyword id="7026456" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cytokine-storm">cytokine storm</keyword>’ that can be so harmful the lungs that it could lead to death. </li><li>The scientists have been working on the solution for nearly 10 years, far before the coronavirus pandemic came along. </li><li>The QTY code makes the proteins in amino acids hydrophilic instead of hydrophobic. </li></ul>Just because humans don’t have natural immunity against Coronavirus doesn’t mean that the body doesn’t try to fight back. One of the ways it can do this is by launching a ‘cytokine storm’ — a burst of immune overreaction. These illustrations are not to scale and the receptor structures are significantly emphasized for clarity.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> A team of researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (<a href="http://news.mit.edu/2020/proteins-cytokine-storms-covid-19-0416">MIT</a>) have developed special proteins based on the structure of antibodies to soak up the excess cytokines — that could potentially save lives. “The idea is that they can be injected into the body and bind the excessive cytokines as generated by the cytokine storm, removing the excessive cytokines and alleviating the system from the infection,” said <a href="http://news.mit.edu/2020/proteins-cytokine-storms-covid-19-0416">Rui Qing</a>, one the senior authors of the study published in the Quarterly Review of Biophysics (QRB) Discovery. The next step will be to test their proteins in humans cells and in animal models of cytokine release to mimic what happens during coronavirus infection, according to David Jin, CEO and President of Avalon Globo Care — a biotech and healthcare services company listed on the New York Stock Exchange — who is also one of the authors of the paper. The solution was 10 years in the making Shuguang Zhang, another senior author of the paper and a principal research scientist in the MIT Media Lab’s Laboratory of Molecular Architecture, began working on blocking the effects of cytokine storm using a modified version of membrane-embedded proteins 10 years ago. When studies started to suggest that COVID-19 was inducing cytokine storms in a few patients, the researchers realised that their custom-made receptor proteins might be able to help. “As it turns out, our research initiated in April 2019 is directly relevant to the treatment of COVID-19 infected patients,” said <a href="http://news.mit.edu/2020/proteins-cytokine-storms-covid-19-0416">Zhang</a>. Making proteins water friendly The process calls for replacing some of the hydrophobic amino acids with others hydrophobic amino acids which have a similar structure. That means instead of repelling water molecules, they will now be able to form an ionic or hydrogen bond with water molecules. The scientists call this the QTY code. The method can modify the hydrophobic regions of the proteins by making them soluble in water. Ordinarily, these proteins have proven difficult to study because once they’re extracted from a cell’s membrane — they are unstable. Being hydrophilic also means that it’s easier for the proteins to travel through the human bloodstream. Else, the hydrophobic versions of the proteins would likely stick to cells that they encounter. The scientists also attached antibody segments called ‘the Fc region’ to their receptor proteins. This is the tail region of an antibody that interacts with cell surface receptors. It allows the antibodies to activate the immune system. To address cytokine storms, adding the Fc region further stabilises the proteins in the bloodstream and makes them less likely to be attacked by the immune system that they’re trying to protect. “Obviously this approach will need further animal studies, and potentially human clinical studies,” said Jin from Avalon Globo Care. “But we have confidence that this discovery will contribute to clinical applications to address viral diseases that involve cytokine storms,” he added. "The machine is the best cool/warm mist humidifier I have used," Fuzzy Wuzzy writes. "It's very similar to the ones we see on Asian drama shows and wish we always had ..." Top 500 Reviewer Jonny_Amazon, in a post on December 29, offered his own praise: "This humidifier has premium and luxury written all over it ..."Personally, I'm still unsure what makes a good humidifier. "What worries me is that the group looked like it was trying to stabilize, but the fact that it has fallen so sharply in the last week or so does not bode well for the broader market next year. Of course, the banks could finally be getting washed-out, but we'd have to see A LOT more upside follow-through if the banks are going to rally in a meaningful way."When it comes to valuation, he said, there is "no question" that the group is very cheap when measured by book value. Theoretically, this juncture should offer a solid buying opportunity for investors. The Mexican <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/currencies/news/donald-trump-mexico-tariff-threat-peso-reaction-2-2019-5-1028245402">peso</a> cratered. Germany's 10-year Bund yield scraped to the deepest below zero on <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/59fac40c-836c-11e9-b592-5fe435b57a3b">record low</a>. The <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/index/vix">VIX</a>, the S&amp;P 500's "fear gauge," touched a two-week high. May marked the first negative month of 2019, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell for a sixth-straight week. The S&amp;P 500's "large topping pattern remains in effect, which, after the latest Tariff news on Mexico, has a chance of playing out further now," said Frank Cappelleri, the chief market technician at Instinet, told clients Friday.He added in a note out early Friday called "Mayhem" that the S&amp;P 500 has "decidedly broken down," with a downside target of 2,650. The benchmark index has already fallen 7% from its May 1 high, and that would mean a drop of another 3.6% from here. Still, the question remains whether Trump's announcement is a negotiating tactic or whether the proposed tariffs will be implemented on June 10. "Could the threat of monthly escalating tariffs on Mexico be a negotiating ploy? Certainly," Sam Rines, the chief economist at Avalon Advisors, told clients on Friday."That might even be the most probable outcome of the threat. But - even if it is just a negotiating ploy - it is not something that can be ignored.
