Nor does she include the company on her LinkedIn profile. However, she was listed as a founding member on an early version of the company's website. According to her LinkedIn profile, she used to work at Facebook as an AI research engineer before joining Stripe as a software engineer in 2016. She left in 2019 as an AI tech lead. Domestic passenger vehicle wholesales declined by about 2 per cent year-on-year in August as companies curtailed dispatches to reduce inventory at dealers amid a drop in demand. According to data issued by the industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (<keyword id="20185536" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SIAM" source="keywords">SIAM</keyword>), the total passenger vehicle dispatches in the domestic market stood at 3,52,921 units last month compared to 3,59,228 vehicles in August 2023, a dip of 1.8 per cent. Two-wheeler wholesales rose 9 per cent to 17,11,662 units last month against 15,66,594 units in the year-ago period, it added. Scooter dispatches last month climbed to 6,06,250 units from 5,49,290 units in August 2023, a growth of 10 per cent. Similarly, motorcycle dispatches from companies to dealers increased by 8 per cent to 10,60,866 units last month from 9,80,809 units in August 2023. The total three-wheeler sales grew 8 per cent to 69,962 units last month against 64,944 units a year ago. "Looking ahead, as the country enters the festive season, demand for vehicles is expected to grow, which will also be duly augmented by the recent announcements of PM E-DRIVE and PM-eBus Sewa Schemes of Government of India," SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon said. Passenger vehicle wholesales dip 2% in August as OEMs cut dispatches

The unemployment rate slid as expected in August after a surprise increase the prior month

New Delhi, The <keyword id="4914195" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gst-revenues" source="Orion">GST revenues</keyword> for August 2023 have shown a growth of 11 per cent year on year due to increased compliance and less evasion, Revenue secretary Sanjay Malhotra said on Friday. The collection from <keyword id="6359833" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="goods-and-services-tax" source="Orion">Goods and Services Tax</keyword> (<keyword id="6354679" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="gst" source="Orion">GST</keyword>) was Rs 1,43,612 crore in August 2022. "Roughly numbers are in the range of 11 per cent year on year growth as in earlier months," Malhotra told reporters. A 11 per cent growth roughly translates to around Rs 1.60 lakh crore. He was replying to a question on the expected GST revenue numbers for August, the data for which will be released later on Friday. Malhotra said GDP growth was 7.8 per cent in June quarter and nominally it has grown 8 per cent. "GST revenues during June quarter grew by more than 11 per cent. This translates into a tax:GDP ratio of more than 1.3," Malhotra said. Malhotra said GST collections have grown by more than nominal GDP and this is despite no increase in tax rates. This is because of better compliance and improved tax collection efficiency. Tax evasion and avoidance is low.

The overall <keyword id="762866" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Passenger-vehicle" source="Orion">passenger vehicle</keyword> (PV) registrations last month stood at 3,09,053 units, as compared to 3,23,720 units in August 2023. "Even with the arrival of the <keyword id="19894908" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Festive-season" source="keywords">festive season</keyword>, the market remains under significant strain... Inventory levels have reached alarming levels, with stock days now stretching to 70-75 days and inventory totalling 7.8 lakh vehicles, valued at an alarming Rs 77,800 crore," Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) President Manish Raj Singhania said in a statement. Rather than responding to the situation, PV Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) continue to increase dispatches to dealers on a month-on-month basis, further exacerbating the issue, he added. "FADA urgently calls upon all banks and NBFCs to intervene and immediately control funding to dealers with excessive inventory," Singhania said, adding that dealers must also act swiftly to stop taking on additional stock to protect their financial health. The OEMs, too, must recalibrate their supply strategies without delay, or the industry faces a potential crisis from this inventory overload, he said. "If this aggressive push of excess stock continues unchecked, the <keyword id="23047448" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="auto-retail-ecosystem" source="keywords">auto retail ecosystem</keyword> could face severe disruption," Singhania said. Commercial vehicle registrations saw a 6 per cent year-on-year dip in August, while tractor retail sales also witnessed a drop of 11 per cent as compared to the year-ago period. Two-wheeler sales, however, increased 6 per cent year-on-year to 13,38,237 units in August, as compared to 12,59,140 units in the same month last year, on the back of improved stock availability and the onset of the festive season, Singhania said. Three-wheeler retail sales also increased by 2 per cent to 1,05,478 units last month, as compared to 1,03,782 units in the year-ago period. Overall registrations last month saw an increase of 3 per cent year-on-year at 18,91,499 units, as against 18,38,501 units in August last year. On business outlook in the near term, FADA said it remains cautiously optimistic. While the festive season and improved rural demand present promising opportunities for growth, ongoing weather uncertainties and high inventory levels may temper the overall recovery, it stated. To navigate these challenges, strategic inventory management and targeted marketing initiatives will be crucial in maximising festive sales and mitigating risks from adverse weather conditions, it added.

Those firms have more debt exposure, and therefore poised to benefit most from lower borrowing costs. Conversely, persistently high interest rates have been cited as a reason for the Russell 2000's underperformance in recent years.It's also worth noting that the small-cap index has seen a gradual rise, rather than a sharp, unsustainable increase, Lee said. He pointed out that the Russell 2000 has notched a 1% gain over the past 10 of 11 days. "The nine times it did that since 1979, when you were in a bear market, we were up 100% — one month, three months, six months, 12 months later," he said. "The 12-month average gained 40%."Lee previously projected the rally to last around 10 weeks starting in August, eventually <a target="_blank" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/small-caps-russell-2000-rally-outlook-sp500-selloff-fundstrat-tech-2024-7">notching 40%</a>. He's now getting even more specific with his forecast, highlighting August as a particular standout period."For the month of August, small-caps can do something more than 15% even, because they underperformed so dramatically," he told the outlet. "The type of moves seen just in the last two weeks is something that only happens at the start of a pretty significant advance for small-caps."Aside from easing interest rates, Lee also cited upcoming election outlooks for fueling the Russell 2000's rise.With <a target="_blank" href="https://www.predictit.org/markets/detail/7456/Who-will-win-the-2024-US-presidential-election">betting markets</a> indicating a Donald Trump presidency, investors are likely enticed by small-caps. That's as Trump's policies would likely boost deregulation, M&amp;A, and regional banks, Lee said.Otherwise, Lee says the rally also signals that investors are moving on from large-cap trades, as the artificial-intelligence frenzy dims down. On Wednesday, the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 hit its worst day since 2022, tanking 3.6%.While the AI narrative remains intact over the long run, investors focused on free cash flow or price-to-earnings will find small-caps more attractive, Lee said.Lee's optimism isn't universal. I met my husband about 11 years ago when I was taking a little sabbatical from life. We decided to move to Valencia temporarily, thinking we would return to the US after a couple of years, but we ended up loving it so much that we decided to stay.My husband is <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/spain-valencia-mexico-city-surprising-differences-2023-5">from Valencia</a>, so we have his family here. We're well-connected in the local and expat communities, making us feel at home.We have an almost 9-year-old son named Luca. Although he's half-American, he's <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/raising-kids-is-hard-when-you-live-far-away-2023-9">very Spanish</a>. He's lived in Spain his entire life and really connects with the culture. All his friends are Spanish, and he spends a lot of time with his Spanish side of the family, who help us out a lot.We go <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-surprised-my-welsh-kids-when-they-visited-the-us-2024-6">back to the US</a> as a family at least once a year, usually during summer break, and every other year, we also go for Christmas. We're heading to California soon for a couple of weeks.When we return from the States, Luca will attend two different <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/american-moving-to-europe-cheaper-than-us-summer-camp-2023-7">summer camps</a>. The first is with the Valencia Football Club (soccer), where he trains for a week but comes home every night. Then, once that's done, he'll attend an indoor soccer camp.<h2 id="bc0bfb19-f2e4-4ede-a397-b8604921c050">I love that most schools in Spain offer affordable on-site summer camps</h2>Compared to the US, I found that most schools in Spain offer on-site summer camps at a low cost, focusing on sports and art activities. In the US, summer school is more academic, often used to catch up on subjects or get ahead for the next year. Then there are summer camps, which typically last a week but can be expensive.In Spain, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/summer-camp-autistic-child-no-affordable-options-2024-6">summer camp options</a> include on-site school camps with sports and arts, sleepaway camps, or day camps without overnight stays. Kids start going to sleepaway camps in the summer for one to two weeks when they're a bit older, usually around 10 to 12. Some parents find it exciting that their kids can go off on their own for a bit. The challenging part is that there are usually no camps in August, so we have a full month with fewer options. That's when most families choose to travel.I find it quite nice that there are many different options for summer camp hours in Spain. Camps usually start at 9 a.m. and you can choose to have your child stay until 1 p.m., 3 p.m., or 5 p.m. The regular school schedule in June and September is also modified due to the heat, offering the same options. As a parent, you can decide the time you want your child to finish, and you pay for the extra hours, which include childcare, lunch, and activities.<h2 id="8c45f3e5-7e83-4ce4-a729-b4750a502d77">Kids are separated by age at school, and have little overlap</h2>My husband and I had our eye on a well-known Catholic school even though we're not religious because it's a big traditional Spanish school, and we wanted Luca to be exposed to more people, more sports, and more activities. It might be overwhelming for some children, but I love its strong community feel. The school has around 90 students per grade, divided into three classes of 30, and it accommodates kids from ages 3 to 18.I like that different age groups are kept separate to minimize interactions and ensure younger kids aren't negatively influenced by older students. All the students are at school together; they see each other at some of the community events, but they're still able to stay in their age group. For example, the "infantil" students (ages 3 to 5) have their own entrance and exit, and primary school kids are kept together as a group so they don't cross paths with the older children. I find this careful organization creates a safe environment for younger kids, reducing the chances of bullying.<h2 id="4fd2b8fd-f59a-4cf5-b45c-b170741f4f71">My son learns the local dialect at school</h2>The school system we chose is called "concertado," a middle ground between public and private schools that are more like religious charter schools in the US, where families pay something. One reason we were attracted to these was its balanced language instruction. In public schools, around 70 to 80% of subjects have traditionally been taught in Valenciano, while kids speak Spanish on the playground and have English classes. In concertado schools, only about 25% of classes are in Valenciano, such as social studies and religion.For families with no background in Valenciano, public schools can be challenging since it's hard to help their children with schoolwork in a language they don't know. Fortunately, my husband could help Luca with Valenciano.For us, 95% of Luca's life is in Spanish. He speaks English only with me or when talking to my parents and other family members on FaceTime. At home, my husband and I speak English so that Luca can hear adult conversations in English, and most of his TV is in English. As a baby, his first language was English since I was home with him for the first three years. Once he started school, Spanish became dominant, but I constantly remind him to speak to me in English to help him practice and maintain his bilingual skills, and also so we can connect on a deeper level.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 83.88 against the greenback, then gained ground and touched 83.84, registering a gain of 11 paise over its previous close. On Friday, the rupee moved in a tight range and settled just 1 paisa lower at 83.95 against the American currency. Over the past shortened week, the rupee showed minimal fluctuation and narrowly steered clear of the critical 84 mark. "The rupee emerged as the least volatile among its peer currencies, a testament to the RBI's decisive actions, which were further reflected in the nearly USD 5 billion dip in India's forex reserves from the record high of USD 675 billion," CR Forex Advisors MD Amit Pabari said. Pabari further said that in the near term, while the RBI may cap the rupee's decline near the 84 level, significant appreciation also seems unlikely. "This outlook is influenced by India's widening trade deficit, which has ballooned to USD 23.5 billion, driven by a surge in oil imports and sluggish export growth," he said. This week, all eyes are on the Jackson Hole meeting, where global central bankers will gather for their annual conference. The spotlight will be on US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell's speech, as markets eagerly await insights into the Fed's monetary policy outlook, Pabari said. Presently, people can buy full self-driving capability with a new Tesla Model 3 for an additional USD 12,000 added to the car's roughly USD 40,000 purchase price. Kelly Funkhouser, associate director of vehicle technology for Consumer Reports, recently tested the system. Funkhouser said she is less worried about its safety than she is about ordinary Tesla Autopilot, which is made to give more limited driving assistance, particularly on highways. She said, "You're not likely to tune out and become complacent or over-reliant on it." Funkhouser added, "In fact, I would say you're potentially more alert, CNN reported. A number of companies, including Google's parent company Alphabet's subsidiary and GM subsidiary Cruise, are working on autonomous ride-sharing services. Cruise has halted testing work after one of its self-driving cars hit and dragged a pedestrian. An internal review found that representatives of Cruise did not fully open up with regulators regarding the incident. The US Department of Justice is conducting an investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, Waymo, recently, recalled its own cars after two of its cars hit the same tow truck within minutes of one another. Meanwhile, a report in the Financial Times had on April 3 said that Tesla Motors will send a team to scout locations in India this month for a proposed USD 2-3 billion electric car plant. This development comes after India lowered tariffs on higher-priced imported EVs last month for companies that commit to making them in the country within three years.
