Gender Diversity in India In India, gender diversity bias is even more predominant. This is corroborated by the ‘India Skills Report 2018’ that puts the economic participation of women in the workforce at 23% in 2018, a disconcerting fall from 32% in 2016. It is universally acknowledged that bridging the gender gap in India is not just a dire need, but a herculean task loaded with multiples challenges like work-family balance, choice of job profiles, work-place conditions and most importantly a mindset and attitudinal change. With India ranked 142 out of 149 countries in the economic opportunity and participation of women index [as per The <keyword id="2573327" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Global-Gender-Gap-Report">Global Gender Gap Report</keyword> 2018 of WEF], there needs to be concerted effort to increase India’s female labour force participation closer to the global average of 49%. Benefits of a Gender-balanced Workforce The nascent gender diversity across most companies in India has seen many roles such as oil and gas, manufacturing, construction and engineering with a male skew. On the flip side, there are also traditionally female-dominated jobs, such as elementary education and nursing. This is a glaring gap as global research, surveys and data-points clearly exhibit that companies which practice greater gender diversity have reported inherent benefits as they fully leverage and utilize the talent available: <ul><li>Improved financials and profitability: women in leadership positions, mixed-gender boards and pervasive presence across the rank and file have yielded better financial performance.</li><li>A better ‘employer brand’ perception: a progressive and positive reputation will attract the best talent.</li><li>Employee retention: inclusive culture is a booster for motivation and morale.</li><li>A loyal and broadened customer base: a diverse talent pool makes it easier to attract an increasingly diverse customer base. </li><li>A quality-focused shift: since diverse teams are more creative and better at problem-solving, a better gender-mix signifies the shift from quantity to quality.</li></ul>Creating Greater Gender Diversity There has to be a clear distinction between gender diversity and gender equality. Gender diversity doesn’t mean a 50:50 mix of males and females across the organization but a fair representation of both sexes and the critical fact that the hiring team should have an open mind for any openings without assumptions or prejudices. A shift towards a more gender-balanced organization requires structural and systemic changes: 1. A shift in the ‘human capital’ strategy: the diversity strategy to be strongly intertwined with the recruiting strategy e.g. removal of gender-coded words from job descriptions and postings. 2. Internal Communications thrust: an internal mindset build-up is essential to begin on the right footing and to shake-up any pre-conceived notions. 3. A balanced pay and benefits structure: robust, family-oriented perks that account for any ‘unintentional’ bias. Mumbai, Apr 13 () The coronavirus outbreak and inventory correction before transition to BS-VI emission norms are expected to pull down aggregate revenue of some of the auto and auto ancillary companies by 26 per cent in March quarter even as the near-term weakness in demand is likely to continue as COVID-19 persists, a report said on Monday.Besides, the higher discounts and operating de-leverage are expected to contract aggregate margins by 240 basis point year-on-yea, Emkay Global Financial Services, said in its report on the auto and auto ancillaries. Most of the manufacturing activities, including in the auto sector, are suspended since March 25 when the government implemented a 21-day lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus.States like Maharashtra, Punjab, Odisha, Telangana and West Bengal have already announced the extension of lockdown till April 30. "Aggregate revenue (in March quarter) is likely to decline 26 per cent year-on-year, owing to the Covid-19 outbreak and inventory correction before BS6 transition. Firms that are likely to record a steep fall in revenue are deep cyclicals or companies with global linkages," Emkay Global said.The March quarter topline of the companies covered under the report are likely to be weak with 28 per cent year-on-year fall , it said adding the decline will be sharp for deep cyclicals and companies with global linkages.The auto makers included in its analysis are Tata Motors, M&amp;M Ltd, Maruti Suzuki India, Hero MotoCorp, TVS Motors, Ashok Leyland, Bajaj Auto, Eicher Motors, Escorts and Atul Auto. Apollo Tyres, Amara raja, Exide, Motherson Sumi and Bharat Forge were among the ancillary makers. The report said it expects the rebound in sales to be sooner in passenger vehicles, premium motorcycles and tractors segment."Although near-term weakness is expected to continue as the Covid-19 outbreak drags, a gradual recovery is likely from H2FY21 led by a low base, better rural sentiment and pent-up demand. The <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="nifty">Nifty</keyword> snapped a 2-day losing streak on Wednesday as traders latched on to the relative safety of defensive pharma and software stocks and pressed sales on banking shares. 

	The Nifty added 28 points, or 0.3 percent, close at 8,495 after recovering from an intra-day low of 8,420 points. The Advance-Decline Ratio stood at 27/23 with pharma stocks ruling the roost. Sun Pharma, ACC, Lupin, Wipro and Cipla were the top five gainers on the Index while Hindalco, State Bank of India, Coal India, Bank of Baroda and Punjab National Bank lost ground. Tata Elxsi was the top traded counter on the second day on the NSE with 829 crore rupees worth of shares traded.
 

	Sun Pharma and State Bank of India were also in major demand on the NSE. Non-Index pharma stocks were major gainers as well. Cadila Health, IPCA, Aurobindo Pharma and Natco pharma showed smart gains.
 

	Bulls managed to pull off modest gains in the broader markets. Major indices such as CNX 100, CNX 200, CNX 500, CNX Junior Nifty and CNX Mid Cap Index closed with gains of 0.2-0.3 percent on Wednesday. 
 The <keyword id="151330" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bank-Nifty">Bank Nifty</keyword> fell 77 points to 18,703 as traders pressed the Sell button on PSU banking stocks after a strong 3-day rally. Therefore, the CNX PSU Bank Index fell 2.7 percent, snapping a 2-day advance. The trend in other sectorial indices was mixed. The CNX Pharma, CNX Media, CNX Auto, CNX FMCG and CNX IT Indexes posted gains of between 0.2-2.7 percent. On the Bombay Stock Exchange, the <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> added 100 points, or 0.4 percent, to 27,931 points. Lupin, Sun Pharma, Hero Motors, Bajaj Auto and Infosys were the top gainers on the Index, while Coal India, Axis Bank and NTPC lost in trade on the Sensex where the Advance-Decline Ratio stood at 19/11 and Sun Pharma was the top traded counter with 35 crore rupees worth of shares changing hands. 

	The Bulls were marginally ahead of the bears in the wider market. Today 1,488 stocks gained ground versus 1,389 that fell below Tuesday's closing prices.
 But the Bears were on top in the futures and options space even as <keyword id="109714" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nifty-futures">Nifty Futures</keyword> adding 27 points at 8,508. JP Associates, JP Power, Divi's Labs were top gainers while Amtek Auto, Kaveri Seed, IB Real Estate lost ground. Among sectors, Auto, Banking, Finance futures fell while Cement, Pharma and Technology sectors rose in trade. The Advance-Decline Ratio was at 72/89 in the futures and Options market. 

	3M, Ahluwalia Contracts, Amara Raja, Dishman and Divi's Labs hit fresh highs on the NSE. Rupa &amp; Co, Atul Ltd., Future Retail, Everonn and Geometric Ltd. made it to the top volume buzzers list.
