The Ather Rizta is a family scooter, featuring a traditional scooter design with a modern touch. The company, which is backed by Indian two-wheeler giant Hero MotoCorp has jumped into the family scooter segment with the launch of the Rizta, after selling its performance-oriented Ather 450X for several years now. Rizta, which has been dubbed as the “scooter for the entire family” has been launched in two models – <keyword id="21234257" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rizta-S" source="keywords">Rizta S</keyword> and <keyword id="21234258" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rizta-Z" source="keywords">Rizta Z</keyword>. It features an all-new design, which is aimed at giving it a more traditional look. The Ather Rizta features a large 900 mm seat, which the company claims is the largest in the segment. For comparison, the Ather 450X features a 780 mm seat. Due to the large seat, the electric scooter also gets a large boot offering 34L of storage capacity. In addition to this, users can equip a frunk at the front to gain an additional 22L storage capacity. The Ather Rizta S and the Rizta Z 2.9kWh variants are both equipped with a 2.9kWh battery pack and come with an IDC-certified range of 123 km. On the other hand, the top variant of the Rizta Z is equipped with a 3.7kWh battery pack and comes with a 160 km IDC range. Another significant change from the Ather 450X is that the Rizta offers just two driving modes – SmartEco and Zip. It also comes with a top speed of 80km per hour. The TVS iQube S is equipped with a 4.4 kW BLDC Hub motor that delivers a peak torque of 33 Nm. The company has said the True Range for the 2.9kWh variant is 105 km and for the 3.7kWh variant is 125 km. Both the variants of the iQube offer a range of 100 km. While Rizta’s range looks significantly higher at first look, do note that while Rizta’s range is the IDC-certified range, the iQube’s mentioned range is the real-world range and the actual certified range is 145 km. The 3.7kWh variant is equipped with a 700W charger and takes 6 hours and 10 minutes for a full charge. Rizta S customers can purchase the 700W charger to reduce the charging time. At present, India levies a tax of 70% to 100% on imported cars, based on their value. This means that the import duty has been reduced by up to 85% for companies under this scheme. Tesla is expected to soon enter the Indian market, with the company reportedly searching for appropriate places for its factory in the country. Vietnamese EV maker VinFast recently announced its plans to invest $2 billion in India and has started constructing its first factory in Tamil Nadu. “Government initiatives such as the PLI scheme for Advanced Chemistry Cells (ACC) and the recent reduction in import duties on EVs under $35,000 to 15% are game changers. All this not only opens doors for Tesla but also signals India’s readiness to welcome significant investments and foster a new ecosystem for EVs and their component suppliers,” said Liz Lee, associate director, Counterpoint Research.
