Italy's Aifa said the decision "was taken in line with similar measures adopted by other European countries." It added that "further looking into the matter is currently underway." The announcement followed by a day the latest known death of a person in Italy shortly after receiving the vaccine. A 57-year-old clarinet teacher, who received the vaccine in the northern Piedmont region on Saturday evening, as part of a national rollout for teachers, died at home early Sunday morning. Autopsies have been ordered for that death, as well as to a handful of other deaths last week of others in Italy who had received the vaccine. France and Germany also suspended the vaccine's use on Monday. AstraZeneca and global health authorities insist the shot is safe. French President Emmanuel Macron says that France is suspending the use of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine use out of precaution. Macron told a news conference Monday that French authorities have decided to suspend shots at least until Tuesday afternoon, when the <keyword id="114599" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="European-Medicines-Agency">European Medicines Agency</keyword> will issue its recommendation over the vaccine. He didn't elaborate on the reasons for the decision. He said France hopes to be able to vaccine again with AstraZeneca shots "soon." Other countries, including Germany on Monday, said it would temporarily halt the use of the vaccine as a precaution amid reports that some people developed blood clots after receiving the shot. AstraZeneca and global health authorities insist the shot is safe. Germany on Monday became the biggest country in Europe to suspend use of AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine over reports of dangerous blood clots in some recipients, though the company and European regulators said there is no evidence the shot is to blame. The country's health minister said the decision was taken on the advice of Germany's national vaccine regulator, the Paul Ehrlich Institute, which called for further investigation into seven reported cases of clots in the brains of people who had been vaccinated. WHO Chief: It's 'seriously disappointing' that rich countries are ordering booster shots while other nations need vaccines

The vaccine will be effective both in scale and affordability, providing sustainable access to low-and middle-income countries, the vaccine maker said. "Our scientists at Texas Children's Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine are thrilled to help in the development of this vaccine, possibly the first Covid vaccine specifically designed for global health," said Dr. Peter Hotez, professor and dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor and co-director of the Texas Children's Hospital Centre for Vaccine Development. "Over the years, we have worked to make quality vaccines and pharmaceutical products accessible to families around the world. With this as our backdrop, we resolved to develop an affordable and effective Covid-19 vaccine. It has now become a reality," said Mahima Datla, Managing Director, Biological E. Limited. Corbevax has completed two Phase III clinical trials involving more than 3,000 subjects between the ages of 18 and 80 at 33 study sites across India. The vaccine was found to be safe, well tolerated and immunogenic. Corbevax is a "recombinant protein sub-unit" vaccine, developed from the receptor binding domain (RBD) of the spike protein on the virus's surface combined with Dynavax's CpG 1018 adjuvant with alum, which helps the body build the immune response against the virus. "In the pivotal Phase III study conducted with an endpoint of immunogenic superiority, Corbevax demonstrated superior immune response in comparison with Covishield vaccine when assessed for Neutralising Antibody (nAb) Geometric Mean Titers (GMT) against the Ancestral-Wuhan strain and the globally dominant Delta variant. Corbevax vaccination also generated a significant Th1 skewed cellular immune response," Biological E said. According to the vaccine-maker, Corbevax nAb GMT against Ancestral-Wuhan strain is indicative of vaccine effectiveness of more than 90 per cent for prevention of symptomatic infections based on the Correlates of Protection assessment performed during Moderna and Astra-Zeneca vaccine Phase III studies. Against the Delta strain, it indicates a vaccine effectiveness of more than 80 per cent for the prevention of symptomatic infections based on published studies. While none of the subjects who took Corbevax or Covishield had serious adverse events, Corbevax had 50 per cent fewer adverse events than Covishield. Nepal approves Covishield vaccine for emergency use

The COVID-19 vaccination drive has already started in countries like the US and UK. India recently approved two vaccines for use in the country, and the government has also <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/india/news/india-to-conduct-nationwide-covid-19-vaccine-dry-run-on-january-2/articleshow/80044250.cms">conducted</a> a nation-wide dry run. To properly implement the Covid-19 vaccination drive in the country, the government has introduced the Co-WIN platform. The government will soon introduce the <keyword id="10402099" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="co-win-app">Co-WIN app</keyword> that will allow users to register for the COVID-19 vaccination. The Co-WIN app will feature five modules - Administrator module, Registration module, Vaccination module, Beneficiary Acknowledgement module, and Report module. She further added,” The virus-like-particle has been used for decades in a licensed vaccine against Hepatitis B. SpyBiotech’s technology allows antigens to be bonded to virus-like-particles in a way that enhances stability and effectiveness.” SpyBiotech has reached an exclusive licensing deal with the Serum Institute of India. This is the second potential coronavirus vaccine from Oxford under trial. Oxford-Astrazeneca coronavirus vaccine candidate — ChAdOx1-S — is the most advanced vaccine candidate against COVID-19. ChAdOx1-S is under a Phase III trial in the US. Oxford and Serum Institute of India begin human trials of a new COVID-19 vaccine in Australia

New data on Covid-19 vaccine manufacturing and <keyword id="10997165" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="supply-capacity">supply capacity</keyword> indicate up to 12 billion doses from 13 different sources could be available by the end of the year, enough to vaccinate 70 per cent of the world if distributed equitably. However, an assessment from the Duke Global Health Innovation Center Launch and Scale Speedometer program continues to show an astonishing gap between wealthy countries and low- and middle-income countries in terms of who controls the lion's share of vaccines. The analysis also finds that countries at all income levels cannot adequately assess and act to minimize risks of supply disruption. This is due to a rapidly shifting landscape in which they see manufacturing capacity and supply projections abruptly expanding or contracting on a daily basis. The research is the most detailed analysis to date of the most ambitious vaccine development and <keyword id="6481984" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="immunization">immunization</keyword> effort the world has ever seen. The data provides a detailed breakdown of 2021 vaccine purchases by country and developer; the supplies anticipated from each vaccine maker through the end of the year; and the many manufacturing partners around the world stepping in to provide bulk production and "fill-finish" capacity -- filling and packaging vials of vaccine, which is often a bottleneck in the vaccine supply chain. "Covid-19 vaccine access remains a lopsided issue as wealthy countries have now purchased about 4.6 billion doses, with 1.2 billion of those controlled by the United States alone for its 330 million citizens, compared to one billion for the <keyword id="9549281" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="covax">COVAX</keyword> pact supplying several billion people in low- and middle-income countries," said Krishna Udayakumar, Director of the Duke Global Health Innovation Center. "There are new developments that could push overall supplies for 2021 to 12 billion doses, and if distributed equally, that would be more than enough to vaccinate 70 per cent of the world's population, the threshold for herd immunity," said Andrea Taylor, who leads research on Covid-19 vaccines for the Launch and Scale Speedometer program. "But alongside the challenge of vaccine nationalism, our work highlights that manufacturing and supply issues remain the critical barriers. There is very little transparency in the landscape, so it is difficult for country leaders to assess the feasibility of delivery schedules or to understand the risks and contingencies." The analysis from the Launch and Scale Speedometer program is based on an aggregation of a wide assortment of publicly available data. However, Taylor said the lack of data on a number of issues, such as the capacity of the many new partners now stepping in to provide bulk manufacturing and fill and finish work, makes it difficult to give decision makers a clear picture of current and future vaccine supply. She called for a new effort to "crowdsource" data from public and private sources to address gaps that could delay decisions to expand manufacturing capacity and limit insights into precisely when vaccines will be available in different regions. For example, the analysis shows that the African Union and Africa CDC have procured 670 million doses for African countries that would be in addition to what they will receive from COVAX, the global multilateral alliance to procure and allocate vaccines more equitably. Taylor said uncertainties around financing and production capacity make it hard to predict whether those doses would arrive in the second half of 2021 or sometime in 2022. Other uncertainties include plans for broader distribution of vaccines from China's CanSino Biologics and the Sputnik V vaccine from Russia's Gamaleya Research Institute. The available data indicate that projected manufacturing capacity for each of these vaccines may not be sufficient to contribute significantly to immunizations beyond China or Russia. However, at least for Sputnik V, there are several contracts with non-Russian manufacturers under consideration and a pending application for an Emergency Use Listing (EUL) from the <keyword id="43588" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="World-Health-Organization">World Health Organization</keyword>. The EULs have the potential to greatly expand supplies, which could help address shortfalls for low-income countries. But Taylor said there is no data to accurately assess how many doses might be available and where and when. Meanwhile, lurking in the background of the vaccine equity issue is the potential for new variants that have at least a limited capacity to evade immune responses to render certain vaccines clearly superior to others. For example, the Launch and Scale Speedometer data indicate that, for at least the rest of 2021, the vast majority of vaccine doses from <keyword id="9653140" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="pfizer-biontech">Pfizer-BioNTech</keyword> and Moderna appear to be headed to wealthy countries. By comparison, of the 670 million doses procured by the African Union, 500 million are for the <keyword id="9605255" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="oxford-astrazeneca">Oxford-AstraZeneca</keyword> vaccine. Astra-Zeneca is also a key supplier to COVAX and, outside of the pact, the Launch and Scale Speedometer data show the company has large purchasing agreements with a number of low- and middle-income countries. Over 12 billion doses of the COVID-19 vaccine could be available this year, which should be enough to vaccinate 70% of the world's population

The world can’t wait for good news from Oxford, Serum Institute and AstraZeneca ⁠— but that is only the first step

Investopedia defines Shared <keyword id="34412" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="economy">Economy</keyword> as “an economic model in which individuals are able to borrow or rent assets owned by someone else” 
 
 
Renting and borrowing has been prevalent for centuries, however creation of an economic model with technology leverage is a more recent phenomenon. Sites such as Craigslist (founded in 1995) popularized web-based distribution service to friends and community in social and trusting ways. An economic model on it however was built only in 2004, when Craig Newmark started charging $25 to post job openings (albeit the seminal act of e-commerce was in 1971 to arrange the sale of cannabis!). 
 
Technology and social behaviors have moved transactions economy from classifieds and assisted sale of products to borrowing assets owners aren’t frequently using, such as a car, house or even household items. Certain business models have also created services’ platform to offer critical skills and services at flexible rates which have evolved to individuals participating willingly and freely in a contractual model. Such temporary positions for short-term engagements created a trend towards Gig Economy. 
 Different studies have predicted 35%-40% of American workforce befitting the definition of <keyword id="4035072" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gig-workforce">Gig workforce</keyword>, which is trend fast replicating across geographies and industries given the convergence of Shared and Gig economies. Cases in point are <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword> and Lyft where majority of drivers (car owners) don’t rely on car-hailing platforms for their primary source of income. 
 
Certain organizations are relying on this convergence to redefine their customer value proposition. As an example, one of the largest tractor manufacturing companies in the world, TAFE, offers its farm equipment on rent, along with an optional driver. Farmers don’t have to make upfront investments and can use the equipment during appropriate seasons without the hassle of maintenance and spare parts. 
 
Software, telecom and product development companies have used the principles of gig economy to create agile work practices. However, managing such workforce and practices within the organization as against engaging with a broader external partner ecosystem raises peculiar challenges. 
 
We asked a group of Imagineers (contributors’ names at the end of the article) to share thoughts on how they would structure and ready an organization to harness the potential of Shared and Gig Economy. Three guiding principles emerged from the discussion: 
 
1) (Re)define Core and Context 
One of the core values of Astra Zeneca, a global pharmaceuticals company, is to “Follow the Science. Put Patients First”. Following its purpose, Astra Zeneca moved away from traditional geography or function-based organization structure to one that is disease and customer-centric. In line with the said purpose, organization had to become borderless, which meant talent should be available beyond internal and external “boundaries”. AZ worked hard to create communities of doctors, scientists and patients, and a platform where ex-employees and freelance scientists could research on newer and market-relevant drugs. They currently work together to meet AZ’s goals. 
Once the core of saving lives was clear, everything else got synced up. That became central design principle for the organization’s structure, and rest was contextual. 
 
2) “One” Partner Network 
In a true Shared and Gig economy, contractors or freelancers may work with multiple companies simultaneously and possibly, on multiple jobs too. It helps to align them to your core value proposition, and create strong processes to ensure service and operational parameters are controlled despite a fluid semi-permeable work structure. 
 
Uber’s mission is to “Make transportation as reliable as running water, everywhere and for everyone”. Drivers are critical to this mission, hence Uber evolved its business model to “create job opportunities and higher income for drivers” (surge pricing is an example) without compromising on building smarter transportation solutions. Through its robust algorithm based app, Uber brings transparency, reliability and efficiency to the cab hailing experience. The front end and the back-end of customer’s experience operate seamlessly. 
 
Influential companies of the future wouldn’t be ones with highest employee base, rather those that adapt best to create and manage a truly integrated “One” partner ecosystem. Traditionally, organizations are structured to create stronger control at the core. As partners become contextually critical, their relationship needs to be built over purpose and strengthened through processes. 
 
3) Hawk Eye on Risks 
An organization operating in either Shared or Gig economy should be designed with a pro-active view of reputational, operational, compliance and financial risks. In this context, challenges with a delivery start-up, Foodpanda, have been well documented. Orders were booked for restaurants closed-down, payments were not made to retail chains due to technical issues, and billing frauds were rampant, which lost face for one of the world’s largest online food ordering marketplaces. Such loosely held providers (e.g. restaurants) can deliver significant reputational and financial damage unless operational controls are institutionalized through the customer value chain. 
 
Second, platform providers need to singularly own the customer experience. In a “federal” structure, accountability can be built only basis data and continuous feedback. Uber measures outcome of every trip, solicits “compulsory” feedback and acts on the complaints with alacrity. A truly digital platform builds its organizational processes around customer’s journey, not around functions such as sales, marketing, production or customer service. Customer interacts with an organization’s brand, and can use social media to quickly dissipate painfully-gained competitive advantage. Foodpanda, in contrast, wasn’t keeping track of delivery of its orders. 
 
Third, network-led economy mandates that organizations invest in partners’ capability as they would in own. Traditionally, large automobile OEMs have invested in building suppliers’ capability through imparting knowledge and skills on quality and lean methodologies. In the new era, organizations operating in external network need to assess an individual’s profile, skill level as well as fit into the much-cherished work ethics and culture. 
 
The above 3 principles - Know your Core, Manage the Context and Keep Customer at the Center of digital business transformation are key to an organization’s success. As Charles Dickens once remarked “a small key opens a heavy door”, so would hopefully these open new ones for you!

<keyword id="6359469" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ranbaxy">Ranbaxy</keyword> has filed a complaint against the US Food and Drug Administration (<keyword id="6354656" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="FDA">FDA</keyword>) in an American federal court for revoking approvals to market generic versions of patented drugs — Astra Zeneca's anti-ulcer pill Nexium and Roche's anti-viral Valcyte. 
 
In its petition, Ranbaxy said that the FDA had exceeded its jurisdiction by revoking the approvals which were granted a few years ago. Ranbaxy called the FDA's decision "arbitrary, capricious and contrary to law." It added, "FDA has no power to correct an alleged 'mistake' it made six years ago". 
 FDA had withdrawn its approvals, saying it had made a mistake in granting them. Ranbaxy had sought FDA’s approval for the drugs manufactured at its <keyword id="203483" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Paonta-Sahib">Paonta Sahib</keyword> plant, which the FDA had blacklisted in 2008. 
 
The FDA, while revoking its approvals, said, “Ranbaxy forfeited its eligibility for 180-day exclusivity for generic Valcyte but was silent on whether the company had also surrendered its exclusivity rights for generic Nexium. Ranbaxy in its plea has assumed that its exclusivity for Nexium is most likely to meet a similar fate.”
