The decision was taken during the ongoing 46th <keyword id="191427" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="World-Heritage-Committee" source="Orion">World Heritage Committee</keyword> (WHC) session held in the national capital, Delhi. <keyword id="19908797" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="UNESCO" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="UNESCO" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="UNESCO">UNESCO</keyword> will examine the proposals of 27 sites for inscription on the World Heritage List, the state of conservation of 124 sites already inscribed on the World Heritage List, and the List of World Heritage in Danger. The World Heritage Committee is one of the two bodies governing the Convention for the Protection of the World's Cultural and Natural Heritage. It is composed of the representatives of 21 states, elected from the 195 states parties to the Convention. In the ongoing session, from July 23 to July 25, the Committee will examine the state of conservation of the 124 sites already inscribed on the World Heritage List, 57 of which are also on the List of World Heritage in Danger. Similarly, from July 26 to July 29, the Committee will examine the dossiers of 27 sites proposed for inscription on the World Heritage List. The sites will be examined according to three categories. The three categories are natural, mixed, and cultural. Reacting to the news Assam Chief Minister Himmant Biswa Sharma said, "The Moidams make it to the UNESCO World Heritage list under the category Cultural Property. A great win for Assam. "The Moidams of <keyword id="21130638" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Charaideo" source="keywords">Charaideo</keyword> embody the deep spiritual belief, rich civilisational heritage and architectural prowess of Assam's Tai-Ahom community. Apart from the fact this announcement has been made from the soil of Bharat, its entry also stands out for 2 more reasons," he added in a post on X. "It is the first time a site from the North East has made it to the UNESCO World Heritage List under the Cultural Category. After Kaziranga and Manas National Parks, it is Assam's 3rd World Heritage Site. I urge all of you to come and experience Awesome Assam," he further said. The Moidams are the burial mounds of the <keyword id="22558033" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ahom-kings" source="keywords">Ahom kings</keyword>, queens and nobles. The word Moidam is derived from the Tai word Phrang-Mai-Dam or Mai-Tam. Phrang-Mai means to put into the grave or to bury and Dam means the spirit of the dead. Though Moidams are found in all the districts of upper Assam, Charaideo, the first capital of the Ahoms was the necropolis of almost all the Ahom Royals. Charaideo is situated 28 km east of Sivasagar. The first king of the Ahoms Chau-lung Siu-ka-pha was buried at Charaideo after his death observing all the Tai-Ahom religious rites and rituals.

Assam writes to Centre favouring extension of lockdown by 2 more weeks

Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said if the patients are not happy at the COVID care facility, they can opt for home quarantine. "We have brought them to the facility so that they can be cured and they do not infect others. If they are not happy there, they can sign the undertaking and go under home quarantine," he said at a press conference. The health workers are on duty day and night and there may have been some delay as they are overburdened, he said. "In other states, even the testing is conducted on payment but in Assam, the entire expenditure -- from testing to their stay and food -- are borne by the state government," Sarma added. In Assam, about a 100 patients run away from COVID care centre — alleging they were not given food or water

The total tally of confirmed Coronavirus patients in the state has now reached 28. According to officials, his condition was stable, however, when his oxygen saturation started to decrease — he was shifted to the ICU for better monitoring. Silchar’s member of parliament (MP) Rajdeep Roy said that the funeral will be conducted as per COVID-19 protocol and the details will be announced shortly. Coronavirus cases in Assam The total number of confirmed Coronavirus cases in Assam is now 29. According to health officials, nine cases have been reported from the Golaghat district, four each from Nalbari and Morigaon, another three from Goalpara, two from Dhubri and one each from South Salmara, Kamrup (Metro), Kampur, Lakhimpur, Cachar, and Karimganj. Assam’s war against Coronavirus fake news The state has been locked in a battle against fake news and misinformation during the Coronavirus pandemic. The cyber cell and police force have been working together to monitor social media and have arrested 25 people for spreading fake information so far. Last week, fake news was spread on social media by the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy — a ministry that doesn’t really exist. The Assam Police had to issue an advisory telling people that the ‘Janasanyog Government Notification’ wasn’t real, asking people to stop circulating the same on social media. They also clarified that going forward all phone will be recorded and social media would be monitored by the authorities starting April 4. In another incident, a local Bengali newspaper Dainik Jugasanka, was booked for carrying fake news about the state’s first Coronavirus patient. Even though he was still admitted at the Silchar Medical College Hospital, the newspaper claimed that he had been cured and discharged. The Uttar Pradesh (UP) State Law Commission has, reportedly, begun the groundwork for the law which will limit the number of incentives or benefits of state government schemes only to those with two children or less. The statement from the UP’s Law Commission came after Assam’s chief minister on Friday announced the state's proposed population control policy. However, in UP’s case, no official confirmation has been issued on the law being formulated. The chairman also clarified that the law is not against any particular religion. UP is the most populous state in India, which as per the 2011 census had a population close to 200 million. “Population is nearing an explosive stage, causing other issues too related to hospitals, food grains, houses, or employment. We believe that there should be a check on the population. Population control is different from family planning.” Mittal told news agency ANI. He further said, “We don’t want to give a message in Uttar Pradesh that we are against any particular religion or anyone’s human rights. We just want to see that the government resources and facilities are available to those who are helping in and contributing to population control.” On Friday, Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the implementation of two-child policy to avail state government’s benefits in Assam, exempting tea garden workers, members of scheduled castes and scheduled tribe from the law. However once the the announcement was made, the people at Nizammudin Markaz did not evacuate to implement social distancing. It was on March 23, a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Janata Curfew, that around 1,500 people finally left the premises. A day later, the nationwide lockdown was put into place for the next 21 days. Delhi's Nizamuddin becomes the biggest hotspot of Coronavirus in India

Aizawl, Jul 5 () Twenty-two more people, including four <keyword id="6362743" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="assam-rifles">Assam Rifles</keyword> personnel and ten NDRF staffers, tested positive for COVID-19 in <keyword id="65591" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mizoram">Mizoram</keyword>, taking the state's tally to 186, an official said on Sunday. Of the fresh cases, 14 were reported from Aizawl district and four each from Siaha and Lawngtlai, he said. "A total of 22 people, including three women, tested positive for the disease in the past 24 hours and all of them have travel history," the health department official said. This is the second-highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases in the state after the first <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> patient was found in Mizoram on March 24, he said. The state had reported the biggest single-day spike of 51 coronavirus cases on June 10. The 10 National Disaster Response Force personnel were stationed at Lungverh, about 17-km from here, while four Assam Rifles men were posted at Zokhawsang in Aizwal. With these new patients, the state now has 56 active cases and 130 people have recovered from the disease. The new patients, aged between 18 and 56, have returned to the state from Assam, Bihar, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Manipur and Jharkhand and they have been in quarantine centres, he said. Mala in Alleppey, Rashmi in Sitamarhi and Sarita in Damoh are busy making masks to protect thousands from <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> and at the same time are supporting their family financially during the lockdown period. Several self help groups, NGOs and local administration have joined hands to ensure that masks -- a very essential means of protection from the infection-- reach everyone in the country. The move has not only helped in protecting others but has also given livelihood opportunities to several women specially during the period of lockdown when most of them from the unorganised sectors have lost their jobs. In Kerala, over 300 women-led micro enterprises under the Kudumbashree – State Poverty Eradication Mission in Kerala -- have manufactured more than 14.50 lakh cloth masks, a representative from the Gram Panchayat of Veeyapuram said. Priced between Rs 10 and 15 depending on the layering in the mask, the micro enterprises have by that measure grossed a turnover of around Rs 2 crore through these units to meet the demand for masks and providing a reusable option in cloth, he said. The masks are being sought through bulk orders by government departments and essential service providers, he added. Child rights body Save the Children said they had provided support in setting up the apparel training centre in 2018 and women are beneficiaries. "These women were trained, provided material support and currently they are making masks. This unit is self sustainable and at this crisis time this is not only providing service to the community but this is also a livelihood support for the marginalised and BPL category women," said Anindit Roy Choudhury, Director Programmes, Save the Children. These masks are not only ensuring protection of people from coronavirus but also giving a means of livelihood for people like Mala. Mala has got Rs 8000 so far by for stitching masks under the initiative. She says she can stitch up to 200 masks every day. "Sale of the masks is a means of livelihood in this period of lockdown. Earlier, I was not contributing to my family but now I am able to support them financially," she told . In <keyword id="6354915" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="assam">Assam</keyword>'s Dibrugarh district, the masks are manufactured by Partner NGO of Save the Children, SEWA. The masks are being made as per request of the district administration. Till now 800 pieces which have been made will be distributed in the tea estate, Chaudhary said. As per SEWA's request the district administration issued a general order to shop owners to supply raw material to SEWA. "A worker can produce 40 to 50 masks per day. The main aim is to promote the use of masks amongst the common people and also to make the masks available for poor and vulnerable people," he said. In Damoh in Madhya Pradesh, around 156 women have been involved in production of masks and have made over 50,000 masks till now which are ready for distribution, a local administration official said. Sarita, who used to earlier work as a daily wager, is now stitching masks in Damoh. "This way, I can support my family till things return to normal. She says she knew basic training and it is helping her now," she said. In Bihar's Sitamarhi, women are making masks with support from the government and supplying it to primary health centres. "We are selling one mask for Rs 20. It is our way to ensure that these affordable masks reach every one," said Rashmi, a volunteer, involved in stitching these masks. In east Champaran district and Gaya too, Save the Children is involved in the production of masks. "In east Champaran district, our partners have received the approval from the government on helping spread the awareness on COVID-19 and on the importance of lockdown and physical distancing. The masks were also made and distributed on the basis of same approval," said Choudhury. In Gaya, an adolescent group of girls prepared the masks at a local level on the basis of specifications advised by the government and distributed in their community, he said. He said the materials were procured locally from local vendors. Due to non-availability of materials they couldn't make many masks. He said around 3500 masks were made in two days in Gaya and east Champaran. "The aim of this program is to orient and make aware children and communities on COVID-19 and its preventive measures. The focus is to mitigate the risk factors related to COVID-19 transmission," he added He said the move not only aims at providing immediate respite to communities through food (dry ration) baskets, hygiene and dignity kits, but also provide livelihood support to make sure that families can deal with the economic blow that the pandemic has brought on to them, said Choudhury. India is currently under the biggest lockdown with around 1.3 billion people asked to stay home in view of the coronavirus outbreak, which has claimed 273 lives and infected more than 8,000 people. Masks saving not only lives but also helping women earn livelihood during lockdown

Guwahati, Jul 11 () Two COVID-19 patients have died and 535 new cases were reported in Assam on Saturday, taking the tally to 16,071, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. A 40-year-old woman and a 55-year-old man died, but Sarma said these could be added to the total only after the death audit board ascertained whether the "underlying cause of death is COVID-19". Addressing a press conference, the minister said all deaths where COVID-19 is the underlying cause will be certified by a death audit board according to the Indian Council Medical Research's guidelines. The two who died at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital were COVID-19 patients, with the woman having a history of pneumonia, type-2 diabetes and hypothyroidism, while the man had a history of kidney ailment who had been intubated and ventilated, Sarma said. Out of the 37 deaths, 23 were reported this weeķ with the single highest of eight deaths on Friday. The minister said the case fatality rate in the state was 0.23 per cent against the national average of 2.69 per cent. The number of coronavirus cases rose to 16,071 with 535 new infections, including 410 from Guwahati city, where the tally climbed to 6,631. Meanwhile, the 14-day lockdown in Kamrup Metropolitan district, under which Guwahati city falls, was scheduled to end on Sunday at 6 pm but has been extended another week till July 19, Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna said. The number of recovered increased to 10,426 with the discharge of 578 patients on Saturday. There are 5,607 active cases. "The discharged number doubles that of active cases, and that's a good news in a time like this", Sarma tweeted. "The state, with a recovery rate of 63.39 per cent is fourth in the country after Delhi, Gujarat and West Bengal," he said. Assam has so far tested 5,37,831 samples so far and the positivity rate is 2.96 per cent, with 15,754 per million population being tested, the minister said. Meanwhile, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti leader Akhil Gogoi, who was arrested by the NIA for his alleged role in violent protests in Assam last year against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, tested positive for the novel coronavirus inside the Guwahati Central Jail, an official said. A total of 55 inmates, including Gogoi, have tested positive at the jail, forcing the authorities to issue orders for taking samples of all the 1,069 prisoners and seal the entire premises for an indefinite period. NDFB leader Ranjan Daimary, jailed in connection with the 2008 serial blasts in Guwahati, was among the 55 inmates of Guwahati Central Jail to test COVID-19 positive. BJP's Sadiya MLA Bolin Chetia became the third legislator in the state to test COVID-19 positive and has been admitted to Tinsukia Civil Hospital, a health official said. The Health Department will allow home quarantine to non-symptomatic COVID-19 patients only if they sign an undertaking agreeing to certain conditions, Sarma said. The patient will be allowed home quarantine if they can ensure that their neighbours and the societies have no objection, there are no elders in the family, they have a private physician checking on them every three hours, have a pulse oximeter in the house and should be able to come in personal vehicle to the hospital, he said. "The Health Department does not prefer home quarantine as there is a risk of transmitting the disease to others in the house, particularly the elderly and children, and we want to ensure that all COVID-19 patients will be available for timely treatment," he said. The social set-up in Assam is such that usually "three generations live together in a house and if the patient is not isolated, then there are chances that one person may infect 10 others," he said. "There is, however, constant requests from patients for home quarantine and though they have the freedom of choice but we cannot allow them to infect others. We can allow it only if they fulfil the above conditions," Sarma added. Flight passengers coming to Guwahati will now be subjected to COVID-19 antigen test at the airport and those testing negative will be allowed to go for home quarantine for 14 days, the minister said. "It has also come to our notice that private hospitals are not admitting patients without the COVID test though we had asked them to set up testing facilities and, except for a few, most have not done so resulting in increase of morbidity and mortality rate," he said. Therefore, in the case of critical patients needing immediate hospitalisation, "we have decided that their results will be processed within 24 hours, provided the samples are received prior to 12 noon each day," Sarma said. The Health Department will also have a dedicated COVID care centre for pregnant women and children below the age of 12, and a geriatric Covid Centre for senior citizens. DG HMB

535 new COVID-19 cases in Assam

Guwahati, May 9 () Nearly 4,300 persons have beenarrested across Assam in the last 46 days for violatinglockdown norms, the Assam Police said on Saturday.A sum of almost Rs 2.2 crore was collected from thearrested persons as fine for defying the restrictions, thepolice said. In its daily report on the ongoing lockdown tocontain the spread of COVID-19, the Assam Police said that2,053 cases have been registered for 2,725 incidents eversince the restrictions were imposed due to the lockdown. Accordingly 4,297 persons have been arrested inconnection with the incidents, a press release said. A fine of Rs 2,18,89,550 was also realised from theviolators, it said. Besides, 25,426 vehicles of all types and 32 boatshave been seized from various parts of the state during thisperiod. As part of its proactive stand against fake news, theAssam Police said, action is being taken against thosespreading provocative content and rumours about COVID-19 onsocial media.
