The flood situation in Assam remained grim on Saturday even though the water levels have started receding in many parts of the state, officials said. The India Meteorological Department's Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in <keyword id="19941239" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Guwahati" source="keywords">Guwahati</keyword> has said that moderate rainfall is very likely to occur at most places of Assam with isolated heavy to very heavy rain likely over Kokrajhar district. "Low to moderate flash flood risk is likely over few watersheds and neighbourhoods of Arunachal Pradesh and southern parts of Assam and Meghalaya," it added. Meanwhile, a report by the Assam State <keyword id="20020610" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="disaster-management" source="keywords">Disaster Management</keyword> Authority (<keyword id="21816603" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ASDMA" source="keywords">ASDMA</keyword>) on Friday night said that seven more people lost their lives and over 12.33 lakh people are reeling under the deluge across 23 districts. The total number of people losing their lives in this year's flood, landslide, storm and lightning has increased to 106. Dhubri is the worst hit with over 3.18 lakh people affected, followed by Cachar with almost 1.5 lakh people and Golaghat with more than 95,000 people reeling under <keyword id="22312557" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="flood-waters" source="keywords">flood waters</keyword>, it added. "Flood water is receding in many parts of the state. As the rain has stopped in most areas, the condition is likely to improve further," a senior official of ASDMA said. The administration has been operating 316 relief camps and relief distribution centres in 18 districts, taking care of 2,95,651 displaced people at present. The state government has distributed 3,621.01 quintals of rice, 666.3 quintals of dal, 6,266.61 quintals of salt and 11,446.82 litres of mustard oil among the flood victims of the state during the last 24 hours. At present, 2,406 villages are under water and 32,924.32 hectares of crop areas have been damaged across Assam, the ASDMA said. Embankments, roads, bridges and other infrastructure have been damaged by flood waters in many districts across the state. At present, the mighty Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger mark at Nimatighat, Tezpur and Dhubri. Its tributaries Burhidihing at Chenimari and Disang at Nanglamuraghat are flowing above the danger level. The Barak river's tributary Kushiyara is also flowing above the danger mark at Karimganj town, ASDMA said. On account of widespread flooding, over 6,67,175 domestic animals and poultry are affected across the state. Assam flood situation grim; water receding in many parts

<ul><li>India is all set to build its longest river bridge between <keyword id="6354915" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="assam">Assam</keyword> and <keyword id="6355772" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="meghalaya">Meghalaya</keyword> by 2026. </li><li>The 20 kilometer-long bridge will connect Dhubri in Assam to Phulbari near the Bangladesh border. </li><li>It will shorten travel by 203 kilometers and save two and-a-half hours of travel time. </li></ul>The Indian government is constructing a new bridge between the states of Assam and Meghalaya — set to be the longest river bridge in the country by 2026 The four-lane bridge over the Brahmaputra river will shorten the distance between the cities of Dhubri and Phulbari by 203 kilometers, and also save commuters two and-a-half hours in travel time. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways along with National Highways and Industrial Development Corporation Limited (NICL) has been preparing plans to iron out the details of the project. They either have to take small boats, which take at least two and-a-half hours to reach the destination, or they have to take a long route of 100 kilometers before the Naranarayan bridge. The proposed project aims to shorten the travel time to only 20 minutes. Meanwhile, officials of the state-owned Oil India Ltd (OIL) said that due to the heavy downpour over the past few days, Baghjan - where its leaking oil well caught fire - and adjoining areas in Tinsukia district have been badly hit by flood water and the accident site has been inundated, affecting the efforts to douse the blaze. "All connecting roads to the OIL's oil well site have been submerged with flood water. Bridges were damaged. At many places water is flowing over the road with knee to waist deep water. OIL's operational areas are heavily inundated," an OIL release said. A massive fire broke out on June 9 at OIL's Baghjan oil well near the Dibru-Saikhowa National Park that had been spewing natural gas and oil condensates uncontrollably since May 27. An important bridge en route to Baghjan, around 550 km east of Guwahati, was damaged due to the floods and the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has asked the official to build a bailey bridge for unimpeded movement of emergency services. The official said : "Over 4.63 lakh people affected by the floods and over 37,313 Ahectares of crop were badly affected due to the floods. Around 19,500 people took shelter in 132 relief camps." The official said that in the current wave of floods, three persons died in Goalpara and Dibrugarh districts while in the first wave of floods from May 22 claimed 15 lives in different districts of Assam. Assam flood situation worsens, 4.63 lakh people affected across 1,289 villages

The bridge will connect two eastern states -- Assam and Meghalaya. It will be the longest road bridge (18.36 km) over a river in the country. The project is being financed by JICA (<keyword id="6395487" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="japan-international-cooperation-agency">Japan International Cooperation Agency</keyword>). The bridge will feature Extradosed Spans of 125 M for 12.63 km, a 60 M Approach Viaduct of 5.74 km and an approach road of almost a km. It is expected to be completed by 2026-27 the four-lane bridge will be built along the National Highway 127-B. The proposed bridge, considered strategic, will connect the state of Assam and Meghalaya with the rest of the nation, reducing the detouring road distance by about 203 km from Dhubri to Phulbari, which lie on the either side of the Brahmaputra before it flows into Bangladesh. Currently, those who travel across these states either take the Naranarayan bridge, which is a huge inconvenience as it is 60 km upstream, or, alternatively, row across the river in small boats, which can take about two and-a- half hours. This journey is considered especially risky in the rainy season when the river flows above the danger mark. National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) is the executing agency. On the Dhubri side (North Bank), the approach - which includes an embankment and viaduct -- will be around 4.3 km, while that on the Phulbari side (South Bank) will be around 2.3 km. The Indian government decided to build the bridge in 1985 following unrest in the area. There’s another bridge being built over the Brahmaputra river referred commonly to as the ‘river-bridge’ which will be 20 km long, once it’s inaugurated in 2026. Wipro The global information technology giant Wipro and SNP Schneider-Neureither &amp; Partner SE announced a strategic partnership to help customers accelerate their enterprise transformation journey. As part of the partnership, Wipro will leverage SNP’s CrystalBridge data transformation platform and the Bluefield approach to provide customers worldwide with a flexible, fast and secure migration to SAP S/4HANA, a statement said. This came after the company in a separate statement informed stock-exchanges that it has plans with respect to its operations in Europe.
