The council encouraged residents to report additional sightings of the hornets and said it was not known how the species ended up in North America, though it estimated that it was possible they were "transported with personal or commercial goods."Research co-authored by Allan Smith-Pardo, a biological scientist with the AHPIS, pointed out that the species has been intercepted at US ports of entry within the last decade. Derek Chauvin, the officer who knelt on Floyd's neck, was later charged with <a href="https://www.insider.com/four-minneapolis-police-officers-criminal-charges-george-floyd-death-2020-6">third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter</a>.<h2>June</h2>Protests continued into June, with waves of people both nationally and worldwide turning out again police brutality and racial injustice. Blake was hospitalized with serious injuries. Protests erupted in Kenosha shortly after the shooting. A 'murder hornet' has been trapped for the first time in Washington after several confirmed sightings

It's often been a part of his job as founder and host of "Brave Wilderness," an online series focusing on adventurous excursions and run-ins with nature, which often include being bitten and stung by creatures. While many Americans have been on-edge after The New York Times reported on <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/02/us/asian-giant-hornet-washington.html">the presence of "murder hornets" in the US</a>, Peterson, sometimes called the "King of Sting," is not intimidated. He intentionally let one of the frightening and dangerous bugs sting him on-camera for a 2018 video. The so-called murder hornets, also called Asian giant hornets, have previously killed 41 people in the Chinese province of Shaanxi in 2013 and have been known to <a href="https://nypost.com/2020/05/05/watch-an-asian-murder-hornet-kill-a-mouse-in-seconds/">allegedly kill mice</a> and <a href="https://www.insider.com/murder-hornet-insect-capable-of-killing-humans-colonizing-us-2020-5">behead colonies of bees</a>. In his video, Peterson writhed in what he called "searing pain," Peterson's arm ballooned almost immediately and became extremely red. Peterson, 38, wasn't afraid of the hornet, though he said it's on the "upper echelon" of the <a href="https://www.nhm.ac.uk/scroller-schmidt-painscale/#intro">Schmidt pain index</a>, entomologist Justin Schmidt's bug-sting resource. The index ranks from one to four, with four being the most amount of pain. That's where the murder hornet falls. "In all of these instances, obviously I'm not dying. Yes, it's pain. Yes, there's some swelling in the aftermath, but we warn people that the best course of action if you see one of these things in the wild is to admire it from a safe distance," Peterson told Insider in a phone interview on Wednesday. <h2>Peterson, who is also a host of his own Animal Planet series, said he undergoes the stings to "educate people." </h2>Peterson said he didn't start his YouTube channel with the idea of filming his own stings. But his first bug attack video, in which harvester ants in Tucsan, Arizona, attacked his hands in 2016, performed extremely well with viewers."I always say to people that the best animal presenters are the ones that are not being bitten and stung by things. And I'm actually really good at not being bitten and stung," Peterson said, laughing. "So when we discovered that being bitten and stung was really gripping the audience, we started experimenting." While most people wouldn't wish this pain upon themselves, Peterson has certainly cracked something. The Brave Wilderness channel has 16 million subscribers and more than three billion total views. His most popular videos include willingly experiencing bites from bugs called "cow killers," "bloodworms," and "tarantula hawks," each of which have more than 50 million views. "The thing that drives me is certainly being able to educate people. I don't enjoy pain, I enjoy educating people," he said. By sharing footage of his own stings, Peterson said he can demystify these creatures for viewers. "They're learning a lot about these creatures. In the end, they're learning that these animals are not out to get you," he said. Though Peterson is a self-taught wildlife educator and expert (who became inspired by "animal adventurers" like Steve Irwin, Jeff Corwin, Austin Stevens, Marty Stouffer), he said he always works with other entomologists and experts on his videos, and has medical professionals "on standby" while filming his bites and stings. Peterson said his team keeps an epinephrine pen on set as well in case he has an allergic reaction. "We always take those precautions before I perform any one of these seemingly extreme stunts by being bitten or stung by something," he said. Still, Peterson acknowledged that he has an "insanely high" pain tolerance, which contributes to his willingness to perform these dangerous acts. "But then again, to each their own," he added. "I mean, I can only say what it is I experienced. I'm sure there are many people out there far tougher than I am, so to speak. But, you know, I guess I've just gotten used to it at this point." <h2>He's probably done with getting stung: "I'm pretty content with the number of stings I've taken," he said. </h2>Peterson said that now he's written a book about his experiences, called "The King of Sting," and documented so many different bugs online, he doesn't feel the need to make more. "You can only get stung by so many things," he said. Though he may be bitten or stung on accident while filming his YouTube videos and his Animal Planet series "Brave the Wild," he said it's probably the end of the road. "But as far as doing it intentionally, we just didn't necessarily see a reason to continue on with that process," he said. <h2>Murder hornets aren't really going to take over the US, Peterson said — and the executioner wasp gave a much more painful sting. </h2>Peterson said his 2018 murder hornet sting video has received millions of additional views in the days since The New York Times' May 2 report, but he said he doesn't believe there's anything to worry about, as only one dead murder hornet has been sighted in the US thus far. "They're not a they," he said. "There has been a single individual hornet that was found in the Pacific Northwest and it's important to keep in mind that that Hornet was also dead." Though the murder hornet does reach the top of Schmidt's sting index, Peterson said another creature beats it. The executioner wasp, which he was stung by just a couple of months after the murder hornet, was much worse, Peterson said. In the executioner wasp video, Peterson yelled that the sting was "burning uncontrollably." The two creatures may be on the same general level of pain, but Peterson said the executioner definitely earned its name. "The reason the executioner wasp is more damaging has to do with the components of the venom," he said. <h2>Peterson said his mom does get "worried," but she inspired his passion for wildlife.</h2>As for whether his family is concerned when Peterson gets into these life-threatening situations, he said it's really just his mother who worries. "My family certainly is always concerned for my wellbeing. I would say if anybody, my mom is probably the one that's always the most worried, but she's super adventurous," Peterson said, adding that it was his mother who inspired his passion for nature as a child. "She introduced me to so many different animal species in nature." Oddly enough, his mother inadvertently led to his bite and sting videos. He filmed the harvester ants video in her Arizona backyard. "She told me she had been stung by one and to watch out for them, because it was the worst sting she ever got," Peterson said. Naturally, he took her challenge. "A lot of my background in wilderness education and exploration was really sort of nurtured by her from a very young age," Peterson said. He chose the Japanese giant hornet — a subspecies of the Asian giant hornet — for one episode."I haven't been this nervous since the tarantula hawk," Peterson said, shaking, while the hornet writhed between a pair of tweezers. He then lowered it towards his arm and let the insect sting him."Oh man wave of dizziness really quick," Peterson yelled, saying the stinger had lodged in his arm. "Searing pain, absolute searing pain. Did you not see how slow the sting was?"Peterson's colleague told him he had to describe the sting, and he said his arm was completely locked in place."When the stinger went into my arm, I had this wave, this wave came over me and I got super dizzy," he said. Asian Giant Hornets, known as "Murder Hornets," were spotted for the first time in the United States, The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/02/us/asian-giant-hornet-washington.html">reported</a>. The "vicious" insect, the outlet said, has a painful and even deadly sting, and it even has the potential to wipe out bee populations around the country. Wildlife expert and "Animal Planet" star Coyote Peterson, who has racked up a massive YouTube following with his dramatic insect sting videos, says the "hype" surrounding the species may not be warranted."We have confirmed one single hornet, that, keep in mind, is also dead at this point, so that doesn't mean that there [are] hornets out there spreading," he told <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2020/05/05/coyote-peterson-asian-murder-hornets-unlikely-kill-humans-sting-spread-across-united-states/">TMZ</a>, adding that many reports of Murder Hornet sightings are false.Peterson explained that entomologists in the pacific northwest will be doing an "extensive" amount of research on the topic, and if there is, in fact, a colony that has created a stronghold in the United States, it is likely to be eradicated. "The odds of these hornets breeding and spreading across the United States is very unlikely," he said. "But, trust me, it's not something I would wish upon my worst enemy."<h2>The self-described "King of Sting" actually experienced the "number one" sting from the Executioner Wasp in 2018 — and he posted the dramatic result on <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HyHZsa79LU&amp;feature=youtu.beu.be">YouTube</a>. </h2>After capturing the insect, which he discovered is not even ranked on <a href="https://www.nhm.ac.uk/scroller-schmidt-painscale/">Schmidt's Sting Pain Index</a>, Peterson readied himself with forceps and an EpiPen in case of a severe allergic reaction. Then he placed the wasp on his forearm.Upon getting stung, he stumbled backward and clutched his arm, which began bleeding almost immediately. Within seconds, he was moaning and punching the ground."It is burning uncontrollably. I think we've got a new king here," Peterson yelled. "Stop burning!" A YouTuber shot a video of a sting from the 'Executioner Wasp,' which he says tops the 'Murder Hornet'

Forty-one people have died and more than <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/killer-hornets-41-dead-china-2013-10" target="_blank">1,600 have been injured</a> by a series of hornet attacks in <keyword id="1334" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="China">China</keyword>.

The insect responsible for the deaths is the <keyword id="1890409" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Asian-Giant-Hornet">Asian giant hornet</keyword> (Vespa mandarinia), which has a 6 millimeter stinger that injects its victim with venom containing a neurotoxin that is "powerful enough to dissolve human tissue," according to <a href="http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/asian-giant-hornets-have-killed-at-least-19-people-in-china-over-the-last-three-months/story-e6frg6n6-1226731460762#sthash.GTN6vxtL.dpuf">The Australian</a>. 
The hornet season typically lasts from May to November, but warmer weather that has led to more successful breeding could be to blame for an unexpected number of attacks this year, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/killer-hornets-terrorize-china-2013-9">according to LiveScience</a>. 
Local mayors have dispatched firefighters to systematically destroy the hornet nests.

This Is What The Sting From Those Killer Giant Hornets In China Looks Like

<div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right"><div class="image">Suhaimi Abdullah/Getty Images</div></div>YANG YUANQING, Lenovo's boss, hardly spoke a word of English until he was about 40: he grew up in rural poverty and read engineering at university.
But when Lenovo bought IBM's personal-computer division in 2005 he decided to immerse himself in English: he moved his family to North Carolina, hired a language tutor and-the ultimate sacrifice-spent hours watching cable-TV news.
This week he was in São Paulo, Brazil, for a board meeting and an earnings call: he conducted all his business in English except for a briefing for the Chinese press.
Lenovo is one of a growing number of multinationals from the non-Anglophone world that have made English their official language. The fashion began in places with small populations but global ambitions such as Singapore (which retained English as its lingua franca when it left the British empire in 1963), the Nordic countries and Switzerland. Goran Lindahl, a former boss of ABB, a Swiss-Swedish engineering giant, once described its official language as "poor English". The practice spread to the big European countries: numerous German and French multinationals now use English in board meetings and official documents.
Audi may use a German phrase-Vorsprung durch Technik, or progress through engineering-in its advertisements, but it is impossible to progress through its management ranks without good English. When Christoph Franz became boss of Lufthansa in 2011 he made English its official language even though all but a handful of the airline's 50 most senior managers were German.
The Académie française may be prickly about the advance of English. But there is no real alternative as a global business language. The most plausible contender, Mandarin Chinese, is one of the world's most difficult to master, and least computer-friendly. It is not even universal in China: more than 400m people there do not speak it.
Corporate English is now invading more difficult territory, such as Japan. Rakuten, a cross between Amazon and eBay, and Fast Retailing, which operates the Uniqlo fashion chain, were among the first to switch. Now they are being joined by old-economy companies such as Honda, a carmaker, and Bridgestone, a tyremaker. Chinese firms are proving harder to crack: they have a huge internal market and are struggling to recruit competent managers of any description, let alone English-speakers. But some are following Lenovo's lead. Huawei has introduced English as a second language and encourages high-flyers to become fluent. Around 300m Chinese are taking English lessons.
There are some obvious reasons why multinational companies want a lingua franca. Adopting English makes it easier to recruit global stars (including board members), reach global markets, assemble global production teams and integrate foreign acquisitions. Such steps are especially important to companies in Japan, where the population is shrinking.
There are less obvious reasons too. Rakuten's boss, Hiroshi Mikitani, argues that English promotes free thinking because it is free from the status distinctions which characterise Japanese and other Asian languages. Antonella Mei-Pochtler of the Boston Consulting Group notes that German firms get through their business much faster in English than in laborious German. English can provide a neutral language in a merger: when Germany's Hoechst and France's Rhône-Poulenc combined in 1999 to create Aventis, they decided it would be run in English, in part to avoid choosing between their respective languages.
Tsedal Neeley of Harvard Business School says that "Englishnisation", a word she borrows from Mr Mikitani, can stir up a hornet's nest of emotions. Slow learners lose their self-confidence, worry about their job security, clam up in meetings or join a guerrilla resistance that conspires in its native language. Cliques of the fluent and the non-fluent can develop. So can lawsuits: in 2004 workers at a French subsidiary of GE took it to court for requiring them to read internal documents in English; the firm received a hefty fine. In all, a policy designed to bring employees together can all too easily have the opposite effect.
Ms Neeley argues that companies must think carefully about implementing a policy that touches on so many emotions. Senior managers should explain to employees why switching to English is so important, provide them with classes and conversation groups, and offer them incentives to improve their fluency, such as foreign postings. Those who are already proficient in English should speak more slowly and refrain from dominating conversations. And managers must act as referees and enforcers, resolving conflicts and discouraging staff from reverting to their native tongues. Mr Mikitani, who was a fluent English speaker himself, at first told his employees to pay for their own lessons and gave them two years to become fluent, on pain of demotion or even dismissal. He later realised that he had been too harsh, and started providing lessons on company time.
<h3>Nuance and emotion, or waffle?</h3>
Intergovernmental bodies like the European Union, which employs a babbling army of translators costing $1.5 billion a year, are obliged to pretend that there is no predominant global tongue. But businesses worldwide are facing up to the reality that English is the language on which the sun never sets. Still, Englishnisation is not easy, even if handled well: the most proficient speakers can still struggle to express nuance and emotion in a foreign tongue. For this reason, native English speakers often assume that the spread of their language in global corporate life confers an automatic advantage on them. In fact it can easily encourage them to rest on their laurels. Too many of them (especially Englishmen, your columnist keeps being told) risk mistaking their fluency in meetings for actual accomplishments.
