This is the case with several start-up founders, who believe that no HR head can do the work better than them, or simply can’t find the right people for the job. 
 
"It's not that people are not smart or they don't want to do it; I think they don't know how. Talent in the country is built for the services industry. It's good and works for Infosys and TCS, but not for us," Mittal told <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/hr-leadership/here-is-why-founders-double-up-as-hr-heads-in-their-startups/articleshow/53819003.cms">ET</a>. 
 Ashish Kashyap, founder of the ibibo Group, is of the view that for better HR operations at <keyword id="428085" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="start-ups">start-ups</keyword>, HR heads need to think of themselves as business partners rather than employees, since there is a difference in the paradigm of HR for traditional companies and technology start-ups.

Sanjeev Aggarwal, cofounder of venture fund Helion Venture Partners, says that at least in the starting phase, start-up founders need to play the role of the HR head. However, once the business and product market is established, HR heads can be brought in. 
 
"In startups, you cannot have an HR head from a large organisation. HR needs to be a key function that understands the business. That's why you have founders doing pretty much everything in the beginning," said TN Hari, HR head at Helion.

<ul><li><keyword id="14170500" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="beunic" source="Orion">BeUnic</keyword> is an e-commerce and fashion marketplace that showcases lifestyle products created by queer entrepreneurs. </li><li>One of its founders, Simmi Nanda, was inspired by her son Aashish Chopra, to build a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community. </li><li>Though they failed to strike a deal, the founders’ story left the sharks visibly impressed. </li></ul>The core idea of <keyword id="11924074" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="shark-tank-india" source="Orion">Shark Tank India</keyword> is for its sharks to find investable startups and help them grow. However, BeUnic, the latest startup to appear on S2 of the show, left a mark on the judges despite failing to strike a deal. The inspiring story of its founders — the mother-sons trio of Simmi Nanda, Aashish Chopra and Vishesh Chopra left the sharks impressed. Started in 2019, BeUnic is a Delhi-based startup that functions as an e-commerce marketplace and fashion brand which curates and produces lifestyle products, from queer creators and entrepreneurs. “A mother has so many dreams for her son – he studies well, gets married and has children. I had these dreams too. But when I learned about Ashish’s sexuality, I was very saddened. I thought my dreams would never come true. But they’re just dreams. You can weave new ones. This was the beginning of my new journey,” shared Nanda on the show. While Nanda works on BeUnic full-time, Aashish works on it part-time. He has a full-time job in the HR department of Google. He’s worked with Philips and Amazon in the past. His elder brother, Vishesh, also has another business revolving around NFTs and cryptocurrency. The diversified interests of the founders led to the sharks backing out from investing in the brand, but Nanda’s story of accepting her child’s sexuality and starting a community left the panel visibly impressed. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="‘Closet is not the place to be’" comment="subhead2" text="‘Closet is not the place to be’">‘Closet is not the place to be’</cmsannotation> A law graduate from Delhi University, Nanda shifted to Nagpur after her marriage and ran a business with ex-husband, selling dental and medical equipment. After 22 years of marriage, she divorced her husband. Consequently, she undertook multiple courses to ‘transform’ herself, including a course on public speaking. In 2016, she got to know through her sister and niece that her son, Aashish, is gay. Aashish was 19 at the time. Her first reaction was one of shock and hurt, and for four months she and Aashish were not on talking terms. Her elder son Vishesh educated her about the community and helped her process the information. Gradually, she came to the realization that this was normal and Aashish needed her support. “I thought I should help Aashish, he must have struggled enough already. Our public speaking mentor told us to deliver a speech that’s close to our hearts, in front of a group of 40-50 people. I prepared a speech for him (Aashish) and accepted him in front of everyone – Love them, hug them, and kiss them because the closet is not the place to be in,” shared Nanda on the show. Inspired by his own fondness for heels and the lack of inclusive footwear, Aashish started BeUnic as a gender-fluid and inclusive footwear brand. It expanded into an online marketplace after Aashish attended a conference in Bengaluru for LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs. He realized that most queer entrepreneurs sell their products primarily through social media channels like Instagram because setting up a website was costly and complex. Today, apart from footwear, BeUnic offers clothes, accessories, footwear, stationery, and home decor. It currently has 500 products from 26 creators, which have been shipped to 12 countries. The startup commissions designs from queer artists. It also uses models from the community to promote its products. “The other platforms are just selling merchandise. Our platform’s specialty is that we’re trying to build a community,” added Nanda. BeUnic generated sales to the tune of ₹20,000 in FY20. The following year, when the founders tried building a marketplace, Covid-19 impacted their business. BeUnic sold merchandise worth ₹1.25 lakh in FY21 and ₹50 lakh in FY22. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Too early to invest" comment="subhead2" text="Too early to invest">Too early to invest</cmsannotation> While all of the sharks were moved by the founders’ story, they saw little merit in investing in the startup. BoAt co-founder Aman Gupta was the first to back out, stating that BeUnic appeared to be a ‘side project’ for the founders. Sugar Cosmetics’ co-founder <keyword id="246967" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vineeta-singh" source="Orion">Vineeta Singh</keyword> backed out stating that bringing together the two parts of BeUnic—community and commerce—would take 3-4 years and the startup was at a stage too early for her to invest in. <keyword id="544908" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="namita-thapar" source="Orion">Namita Thapar</keyword>, executive director at Emcure Pharmaceuticals, agreed with Singh. “If you can strengthen the community you’re building to reach sales worth ₹2-₹3 crore, then it can become an investable business. However, your (Simmi) journey has inspired me, and I believe, will inspire many other people,” remarked Thapar. Shaadi.com founder Anupam Mittal echoed Thapar’s sentiments about the founders’ story being incredibly inspiring while advising them to build a community app or network that could later be leveraged or converted into commerce. Lenskart co-founder Peyush Bansal, however, made an offer of ₹25 lakh for 25% equity, along with ₹75 lakh in debt on the condition that founders convert BeUnic from a marketplace to a D2C brand and work on it full-time. He even offered the founders to create BeUnic eyewear for Lenskart. “I’d like you to make eyewear for BeUnic too, and I’d sell that brand on Lenskart. If you wish to use the community to source your designs, I’ve no problem with it,” said Bansal. However, the founders declined the offer and walked away without a deal. BeUnic: Closet is not the place to be says this mom who built an LGBTQ+ community marketplace

New Delhi, Nov 20 () Co-working platform myHQ on Wednesday sait it has raised USD 1.5 million (around Rs 10.7 crore) from investors including India Quotient to fund expansion plan.
 The startup has been founded in 2016 by two IIT Delhi graduates - Utkarsh Kawatra and Vinayak Agrawal. It offers workspaces across 120+ locations in Delhi-NCR region at places like restaurants, cafes, co-working centre and office complexes that have excess inventory.
 "myHQ has raised USD 1.5 million in its pre-Series A round led by India Quotient. The round also saw investments from Singapore-based family office RB Investments, Ashish Goenka from Suashish, angels from the online platform LetsVenture and participations from existing investors (Anupam Mittal and Nitish Mittersian amongst others)," the company said in a statement.
 myHQ said it plans to utilise the funds to expand into new cities, introduce new product offerings and invest in their technology infrastructure.
 "This investment underlines our investors' confidence in our model that offers greater value to those who are looking for a workspace. Using existing excess real estate inventory available with third-parties, not only reduces our financial risks but also allows us to offer workspaces to our customer at an extremely affordable price," said Utkarsh Kawatra, Co-founder, myHQ.
 This fund raise not only reaffirms the business, but also reflects the growing demand for such spaces by the modern workforce, said Vinayak Agrawal, co-founder, myHQ.
 According to a report by global property consultant Cushman &amp; Wakefield, there are 1,000 operational coworking centres, with a capacity of over 4 lakh seats, across top six cities -- Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and Chennai.

Co-working platform myHQ raises USD 1.5 mn to fund expansion

New Delhi, May 22 () Real estate developers on Friday welcomed cut in key interest rates but said the RBI needs to take more steps, such as one-time debt restructuring of builders loan, to provide relief to the industry which has been hit badly by the lockdown. The RBI needs to ensure that banks pass on the benefits to customers, they said. The industry hailed the extension in the moratorium on loan repayment but felt it was not enough. "The advantages extended by the RBI through reducing the repo rates are not being passed on by the banks to the customers. The series of reduction in policy rates will help all sectors including real estate which is hit by the contraction in demand and liquidity squeeze caused by the COVID 19. " However, we are hoping for quick transmission of these actions in banks' respective lending rates," CREDAI National Chairman Jaxay Shah said. "We expected more stringent measures from the RBI to revive the economy. Real Estate sector can act as a catalyst in resurrecting the economy, backed by stringent fiscal and non-fiscal measures. The move of moratorium extension is a short term piecemeal solution to a long term problem," CREDAI President Satish Magar said in a statement. Naredco President Niranjan Hiranandani said the reduction in repo rate and extension of moratorium period were steps in the right direction. "Industry though awaits one-time debt restructuring as a holistic measure to give a breather to the industries across the board and help in its quick revival," he added. Tata Realty and Infrastructure Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sanjay Dutt said this will provide some financial relief to borrowers with their equated monthly instalments (EMIs) and make it cheaper to take new loans. Sobha Vice Chairman and MD J C Sharma said: "This will further lower the home loan interest rates. Such lowest ever, most lucrative reduced EMIs will augur well for the market sentiments and the larger economy. This will induce demand for homes and will give the much-needed fillip to the current state of the economy." Puravankara Ltd MD Ashish Puravankara said: "The further reduction of the repo rate will aid in ensuring adequate flow of capital in the market. We hope that all banks will incorporate the new announcements and pass down the benefits to loan seekers." Among property consultants, Anarock Chairman Anuj Puri said the repo rate cut will further help banks to lower home loan interest rates, which may get several more fence-sitters onto the market. Anshuman Magazine, chairman and CEO - India, South East Asia, Middle East &amp; Africa, CBRE, said: "The RBI's move to cut repo rate will have a positive effect on the residential property market. This is a clear step towards reducing lending rates, encouraging liquidity, preserving financial stability and supporting overall economic growth." JLL India Country Head Ramesh Nair said the faster transmission of these benefits to the end consumer in the form of lower home loan rates will aid in improving their effective affordability. "However, one-time restructuring of loans is the need of the hour more importantly for the real estate sector which is severely ailing due to the pandemic," he added. Dhruv Agarwala, Group CEO, Housing.com and Proptiger.com, said the move will boost sentiment and demand in the residential segment. "What needs to be seen is how quickly the banks reflect this change in their respective rates," he said. Knight Frank India CMD Shishir Baijal said it would have been a big respite if the long-standing real estate industry demand for a one - time restructuring of loans was allowed along with the measures announced on Friday. Savills India CEO said the lowering of the rates may help accelerate the decisions of a section of home buyers, in the next few months, if not immediately. "It will also help in reducing the EMI burden of customers during such grave times, provided the banks pass down the rates." Among other developers, Supertech Chairman R K Arora expressed disappointment that one time restructuring of loan was not allowed. Signature Global Chairman Pradeep Aggarwal said: "Now the situation for homebuyers might improve further as home loan interest rates are expected to come down further. Affordable housing will benefit the most as the buyers of this segment are very particular about the EMIs." ABA Corp Director Amit Modi, director said the banks need to quickly transmit the announced rate cuts to the end consumer, else the whole effort will be futile. Uddhav Poddar, MD, Bhumika Group said the industry was expecting one-time restructuring of loans while Prateek Mittal, Executive Director, Sushma Group, said the realty sector will benefit from the rate cut. Industry's demand for one-time restructuring of developers' loans should be met, said Ankush Kaul, President (Sales &amp; Marketing) - Ambience Group. The banks should immediately pass on the reduction in the repo to ensure the objectives of demand creation and liquidity infusion are achieved, said Kaushal Agarwal, chairman, The Guardians Real Estate Advisory. New Delhi, Apr 17 () The real estate industry on Friday hailed RBI's decision to boost liquidity into the system and provide relief to loans taken from NBFCs for commercial projects, but sought one-time restructuring of their loans and a stimulus package to help the sector in battling the crisis caused by the lockdown to control COVID-19.The RBI on Friday reduced the reverse repo rate - the rate at which banks park their fund with the central bank - by 25 basis points to encourage banks to lend to the productive sectors of the economy. It also announced an additional Rs 50,000 crore through targeted long-term repo operation (TLTRO) and another re-financing window of Rs 50,000 crore for institutions like Nabard, National Housing Bank and Sidbi.CREDAI Chairman Jaxay Shah said: " We welcome the RBI's decision of providing the liquidity boost to the realty sector. We are hopeful that the government will soon aid the sector with the announcement of the much needed economic package."The RBI has allowed NBFCs to extend the date for commencement for commercial operations (DCCO) in respect of loans to commercial real estate projects by an additional one year if the projects got delayed for reasons beyond the control of promoters.CREDAI President Satish Magar said, measures such as extension of DCCO, fresh LTRO and reverse repo rate cut will help uplift the economic slowdown."Loans given by NBFCs to real estate companies will get similar benefits as given by scheduled commercial banks, thus easing the financial burden on developers," he said. Naredco President Niranjan Hiranandani said: "From the perspective of regulatory norms to spur an economic revival, the measures announced aim to maintain adequate liquidity in the system, facilitate bank credit flow and ease financial stress. These are absolutely welcome, given that economic activity has come to a standstill during the lockdown."He said the announcement that loans given by NBFCs to real estate companies would get similar benefits as given by the scheduled commercial banks was positive. Anshuman Magazine, Chairman &amp; CEO - India, South East Asia, Middle East &amp; Africa said NHB has been provided with a refinance facility of Rs 10,000 crore for HFCs as additional liquidity for individual housing loans, which is a much needed boost at this time.Anarock Chairman Anuj Puri said: "Among the various measures announced, commendably its allotment of Rs 10,000 crore to NHB is a big move for the real estate sector reeling under the liquidity crisis. It will help provide capital to HFCs and eventually provide major relief to developers battling liquidity issues in COVID-19 times."Tata Realty and Infrastructure MD &amp; CEO Sanjay Dutt said the RBI's measures will provide some relief to the sector, which had already been dealing with its own set of issues prior to the pandemic. "These measures...are bound to encourage banks to lend more, thereby improving the credit flow and giving more purchasing power to homebuyers and investors," Dutt said. This will provide a boost to various real estate activities."As per the RBI data, NBFCs outstanding credit to the commercial real estate stood at Rs 1,29,359 crore as of September-end 2019, he said. "The relaxation of NPA classification norms and extension of one year for commencement of projects to real estate developers by NBFCs will provide the much needed relief to the sector," Nair said. Real estate industry hails RBI move to boost liquidity in system

Early last year, India’s most popular comedy collective <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=All+India+Bakchod+">All India Bakchod </a>broke new ground by organising the first ever roast. 
 
A popular concept abroad, the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=AIB+Knockout">AIB Knockout</a>, hosted at the NSCI auditorium in Worli, saw the funny four along with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Karan+Johar">Karan Johar</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Aditi+Mittal">Aditi Mittal</a> take digs at actors <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Ranveer+Singh">Ranveer Singh</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Arjun+Kapoor">Arjun Kapoor</a>, who played sporting victims. 
 
What they didn’t foresee was being slapped with FIRs on the participants and organisers on the ground of obscenity. 
 
The list of offenders thus included- the President of NSCI Jayantilal Shah, secretary general NSCI Ravinder Aggarwal and participants in the AIB Roast including <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Karan+Johar">Karan Johar</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Ranveer+Singh">Ranveer Singh</a>, Rohan Joshi, Tanmay Bhatt, <keyword id="1359152" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gursimran-Khamba">Gursimran Khamba</keyword>, Ashish Shakya, Aditi Mittal, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Rajeev Masand and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Arjun+Kapoor">Arjun Kapoor</a>. 
 
“To be really honest, none of us thought it would be this big an issue, even in our wildest dreams,” admits AIB’s <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Gursimran+Khamba">Gursimran Khamba</a>, nearly a year after that incident, while speaking at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Coalition+India">Coalition India</a>. 
 
The case, however, is still on. 
 
Adding how they were flabbergasted at the news, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Gursimran+Khamba">Khamba</a> admits their first reaction was disbelief. 
 
“I mean, come on. There are farmers dying in Maharashtra and you really want to make an issue out of this and give us three day primetime coverage?” 
 
Having cases against them did see several brands being wary of approaching them, but <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Gursimran+Khamba">Khamba</a> thinks the most damaging impact was to their confidence. 
 
“We are obviously scared now. We’ll think twice before including a joke. But, there are times that I just don’t care and think, no matter what I’m going ahead with my sketch, but later I realised that can’t be the case anymore,” <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Gursimran+Khamba">Khamba</a> adds. 
 
He says comedy is subjective, and admits they make content for a mature audience. “The reason we have Bakchod in our name is to let people know we’re for a select audience”, he adds. 
 
 “The only way you come out of something like this without getting scared in the future is if you don’t have a family to worry about or if you have the kind of money that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vijay+Mallya">Vijay Mallya</a> does,” he signs off.

Over the next 12 months, with increased and more effective connectivity, we will witness a significant majority of Indians being more connected to the Internet and with each other. While the consumer’s form factor of choice remains to be seen, hybrid devices, an interesting mix of PCs and tablets, may emerge as a winning proposition and Touch interface is expected to be more pervasive due to the positive experience rendered by Smartphones and Tablets.

Tablets running on the Android operating system are likely to lead the way. Smartphones with 3G are the norm now while early adopters are already moving on to models compatible with 4G networks. Operators are also going to try to experiment with phone subsidy plans which are much more common in the US to reduce the overall initial costs of purchasing a phone. With increased mobile usage this year, there will be a flood of apps in app markets, it’s going to become difficult for these apps’s to stand out from each other and many of them might convert into paid apps.
