Low-fare airline <keyword id="1583080" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="AirAsia-India">AirAsia India</keyword> could soon see a change in ownership structure as the <keyword id="6355725" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Group">Tata group</keyword> is in discussion to increase the conglomerate's stake in the airline. 
 "There are discussions going on (between <keyword id="46894" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Sons">Tata Sons</keyword> and AirAsia India) and I know the Tatas are keen to increase stake. They are happy with AirAsia's performance," an Economic Times report quoted senior executive at <keyword id="2202187" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="AirAsia-Berhad">AirAsia Berhad</keyword> as saying. 
 Requesting anonymity, a person familiar with the developments told The Economic Times: Tata Sons will likely acquire private investor <keyword id="230622" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arun-Bhatia">Arun Bhatia</keyword>'s shares, reducing his holding to a "bare minimum." 
 
Currently, the Tatas own 30% stake in AirAsia India while AirAsia Berhad owns 49%. Arun Bhatia holds rest of the stake through his investment holding company, Telestra Tradeplace. 
 
When ET approached Bhatia to know more about this latest news, he said: "If the Tatas want to buy, I am ok to sell", without revealing much detail. 
 
If the news reports come true, this step will be a surprise to industry watchers who have been wondering about the Tata Group's future intentions with its two airline ventures in India. 
 Beside AirAsia India, Tata Sons owns 51% in Vistara, a joint venture with <keyword id="6368386" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Singapore-Airlines">Singapore Airlines</keyword> in which the latter owns 49%. 
 
These airline ventures are seen as a realisation of Tata Sons chairman emeritus Ratan Tata's dreams of making it big in the Indian aviation industry.

Tata Sons likely to become AirAsia India’s largest shareholder

<keyword id="2343555" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Low-cost-carrier-AirAsia-India">Low-cost carrier AirAsia India</keyword> has announced flights between Bangalore and Kochi from next month with a limited offer of an all-inclusive fare of Rs 500. 
 The airline will start daily operations from Bangalore to Kochi and vice versa from July 20, according to a spokesperson. <keyword id="1583080" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="AirAsia-India">AirAsia India</keyword> launched its first flight between Bangalore and Goa on June 12. 
 Commenting on the development, AirAsia India CEO <keyword id="1674460" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mittu-Chandilya">Mittu Chandilya</keyword> said, "We have done a complete analysis of our third destination and we are confident that we will be able to reach out to more first-time fliers." 
 
Announcing Kochi as the third destination within a few days of the launch, Chandilya said, "We will stand by our promise to deliver a quality product to our guests that promises value for their money. We are very much encouraged by the outstanding reception to our product and service." 
 The airline will be operating twice-a-day flights on the <keyword id="2343556" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bangalore-Chennai-Bangalore">Bangalore-Chennai-Bangalore</keyword> route from June 19. It will also operate daily flights between Bangalore and Goa. 
 AirAsia India is a 49:30:21 joint venture involving Malaysian low-cost carrier <keyword id="2202187" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="AirAsia-Berhad">AirAsia Berhad</keyword>, <keyword id="46894" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Sons">Tata Sons</keyword> and <keyword id="230622" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Arun-Bhatia">Arun Bhatia</keyword>'s <keyword id="1838341" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Telstra-Tradeplace">Telstra Tradeplace</keyword>. 
 
Earlier, Chandilya said the airline would offer fares about 35% lower than the prevailing market rates to connect tier II cities. 
 
Other low-cost carriers operating in India include IndiGo, SpiceJet and GoAir, besides Air India Express and JetLite.

​AirAsia India To Fly Bangalore-Kochi For Rs 500

With the sudden news of a tie-up between <keyword id="8555" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Tata">Tata</keyword> and <keyword id="6368386" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Singapore-Airlines">Singapore Airlines</keyword>, <keyword id="86568" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Air-Asia">Air Asia</keyword>’s deal with the Tata’s seem to be in jeopardy. Tata have been in a strong coalition with the low fare air carrier owned by <keyword id="82750" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Tony-Fernandes">Tony Fernandes</keyword>, and looked like the perfect partners to bring the air travel costs down in India (at least in the not-so-frequent sectors). 
 However, the move between Tata and SIA has sent jitters to Air Asia partners in India. <keyword id="230622" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Arun-Bhatia">Arun Bhatia</keyword> who is the third partner in the venture wants to bring the issue up in the next board meeting and sort things out. We might even see him asking to take over Tata’s share all together. 
 
Tata had plans to enter the aviation industry since more than a decade now. Alliance with SIA would be the perfect way to enter the full fare segment and become a well known name in Indian and international air circuit. SIA is part of the star alliance group. It is one of the best and most preferred airlines to travel world over. SIA and Tata have pledged to combine 100 million USD for the new endeavour. 
 
However there are few challenges in this tie-up that require SIA to go through some Indian regulatory approvals. But whatever the case be, no body likes a partner making an alliance in a competing business. All eyes are now on the next Air Asia Board meeting, which should clear the air of any speculation.

The Forbes '30 under 30 Asia' list includes 300 "young and driven entrepreneurs and game-changers" from countries including India, Indonesia, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Pakistan, Vietnam and Australia who are contributing to their industries in a significant way. 
 In this list, one would find 56 Indians, with Kohli, Mirza and Nehwal along with 26-year old Bollywood actress <keyword id="89958" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shraddha-Kapoor">Shraddha Kapoor</keyword>. 
 
"At the top of India's crickculture is batting prince Kohli, who led India to clean sweep in their Twenty 20 series against Australia in January," Forbes said of Kohli. He was also named among India's highest earning celebrities in 2015, standing at USD 11.3 million. 
 
Talking of Mirza, Forbes said that she has been the "most successful female Indian tennis player ever" and one of the highest paid and highest profile athletes in the country. 
 
About Nehwal, Forbes described her as a "role model" and "Indian badminton queen". 
 
The list has a total of 10 categories, covering consumer technology, enterprise technology, arts, healthcare and science, media, social 
entrepreneurship, finance, industry and retail. 
 
Arunima Sinha, the first female and first Indian amputee to climb Mt Everest in 2013 and Chaitanya Tamhane, the writer and director of the critically acclaimed movie 'Court' also found place in the entertainment and sports category.

Sania Mirza, Virat Kohli and Saina Nehwal amongst 56 Indians in Forbes' Asia list

<keyword id="6358246" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="AirAsia">AirAsia</keyword> CEO <keyword id="82750" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tony-Fernandes">Tony Fernandes</keyword> is planning to bring his other businesses to India. His plans include making Bangalore an international aviation hub, forging a tie-up between his budget-hotel unit and that of the Tatas and selling expensive sports cars in India. 
 
"Bangalore could be another Dubai for AirAsia. I can bring tons of South east Asians over to Bangalore, change from Bangalore and go to London and Africa. There are tons of Southeast Asians who want to come to India," he said. 
 
On February 19, 2013, AirAsia announced its plans for an Indian airline through a tripartite joint venture with Tata Sons and private investor Arun Bhatia, who owns Telestra Tradeplace. 
 Following the announcement, BJP leader <keyword id="6370187" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Subramanian-Swamy">Subramanian Swamy</keyword> filed a court case against the proposal. Swamy claimed the foreign direct investment (FDI) policy applied only for the existing carriers and not the new ventures. “The court case is preposterous as far as I am concerned. The Indian government made a rule (to allow FDI from foreign carriers). Then the government interpreted its own rule. Then it says 'That's not what we meant.' So it's rubbish!" Tony said. 
 
"Swamy is a politician. I am not. But I think politicians should look at both sides of the story and put people first," he added. 
 
Fernandes said the key lesson he has learnt in the last one-and-half year is perseverance. Just a few days ago, he had openly blasted his detractors through Twitter. "Don't give up easily. Don't get intimidated. I have learnt that the competitors (airlines in India) are old-fashioned monopolists. They want to protect their turf at all possible costs. I have never seen this before," he said.
