At the moment Google is preparing an especially uncertain and distant shot. It is planning to launch Calico, a new company that will focus on health and aging in particular. The independent firm will be run by Arthur Levinson, former CEO of biotech pioneer Genentech, who will also be an investor. Levinson, who began his career as a scientist and has a Ph.D. in biochemistry, plans to remain in his current roles as the chairman of the board of directors for both Genentech and Apple, a position he took over after its co-founder Steve Jobs died in 2011. In other words, the company behind YouTube and Google+ is gearing up to seriously attempt to extend human lifespan.

As per a news report by The Economic Times, <keyword id="6358361" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Biocon">Biocon</keyword> <keyword id="1535570" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="founder-and-managing-director">founder and managing director</keyword> <keyword id="6413985" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kiran-Mazumdar-Shaw">Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw</keyword> has been ranked one of the most influential executives in the world in the field of medicine by a top UK-based medical publication. 
 
Mazumdar-Shaw has been ranked number two on The Medicine Maker Power List of 2015, which is an index of the 100 most influential people across the globe in the field of medicine, an annual list which is compiled by UK-based The Medicine Maker.

Yet that 50/50 ratio doesn't hold true in corporate boardrooms.
This gender disparity is only hurting the companies themselves as <a href="http://catalyst.org/knowledge/bottom-line-corporate-performance-and-womens-representation-boards">studies</a> have shown that Fortune 500 companies with the highest percentage of women board directors financially outperform companies with the lowest percentage.
According to <a href="http://www.catalyst.org/media/companies-more-women-board-directors-experience-higher-financial-performance-according-latest">nonprofit organization Catalyst,</a> companies with the highest percentage of women board directors bring in 42% more in sales and 53% more in return on equity than companies that have the least representation of women on their boards.
Terry J. Lundgren, CEO of Macy's, Inc., said closing the gender gap must first start from <keyword id="34454" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="leadership">leadership</keyword> at the top.
"[CEOs] can do more to promote the females executives in [their] company as candidates," Lundgren said at a recent gathering of the Women's Forum of New York at the New York Stock Exchange. "[CEOs] have relationships where we connect and we have this opportunity to be the advocates." Macy's is one of the small handful of companies that have at least 40% of women represented on their board.
Deanna M. Mulligan, CEO of The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, spoke on a panel at the Women's Forum and she discussed the graveness of not having enough women voices represented in the corporate world.
"We put a man on the moon," she said. "We should be able to put women on boards."
