But the founders of insideFPV, a startup manufacturing drones, certainly left a mark — because they started the company when they were still in college! insideFPV claims to be India’s first company to provide Plug-and-Fly FPV drones, where customers just have to plug the battery in the drone and fly it. FPV stands for First Person View. The <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/company/inside-fpv/about/">Tamil Nadu-based </a>startup was founded by three engineers — Arth Chowdhary, Oshi Kumari, and Devyant Bhardwaj in 2020. insideFPV sells drones starting at ₹2,800 on its website. The founders claimed that no other company in India sells drones at this price point. The startup’s most expensive drone, priced at ₹25,000, comes with goggles that allow you to remotely view footage captured by the drone at a distance of 4-5 kms. The startup also offers customers services like a one-drone crash warranty, and free consultation by experienced pilots. It clocked in revenues to the tune of ₹85 lakh in FY22. And walked away with an investment of ₹75 lakhs from four sharks. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Students-turned-entrepreneurs" comment="subhead2" text="Students-turned-entrepreneurs">Students-turned-entrepreneurs</cmsannotation> Graduates of the Vellore Institute of Technology, the three founders were still studying in college when they started insideFPV during the pandemic. Chowdhary and Kumari are both mechanical engineers, while Bhardwaj studied electrical engineering. The trio launched a profitable business, even as they were pursuing their education. While Chowdhary and Bhardwaj graduated just two days before the episode was shot, Kumari was still in the fourth year of engineering when she appeared on the show. “Fantastic to see a woman in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). There are very few in our country,” commented <keyword id="544908" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="namita-thapar" source="Orion">Namita Thapar</keyword>, executive director at Emcure Pharmaceuticals. The company made year-to-date sales worth ₹44 lakh in FY23. However, they projected that they will close the year with sales worth ₹4 crore, because of upcoming orders from VIT Chennai and VIT Vellore. “VIT Chennai is setting up a drone lab for students. So we’re giving them all our drones and equipment. Secondly, VIT Vellore is buying two agricultural drones from us, costing ₹8 lakh each,” shared Chowdhary on the show. As much as 40% of the company’s sales come from drones, while spare parts drive the remaining 60%. The B2C startup drives all its sales with zero marketing spend. The company received a grant of ₹10 lakh from the Government of India under the Nidhi-Prayas programme. The programme <a href="https://vittbi.com/prayas.php#:~:text=Under%20this%20initiative%2C%20DST%20has,who%20require%20support%20for%20prototyping.">caters </a>to idea-stage entrepreneurs with a physical product offering, who require support for prototyping. VIT Technology Business Incubator is a centre under this programme. This valued the company at ₹2.5 crore “This is a very early stage. But you (founders) are superb. This is completely a bet on you. No interest on the loan, I don’t want any interest on ₹25 lakh. You need the money,” said Bansal. <keyword id="174" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="thapar" source="Orion">Thapar</keyword> and Amit Jain (co-founder, CarDekho.com) responded with a joint offer of ₹75 lakh for 15% equity, doubling the company’s valuation. Jain told the founders that they were students and repaying the debt would be difficult for them. Consequently, the founders requested all four sharks to come on board with a collective investment of ₹75 lakh for 5% equity. Bansal initially backed out of this deal, stating that while he and Gupta could match Thapar and Jain’s offer, he wouldn’t come on board for 5%. Thapar and Jain revised their offer, further raising the company’s valuation to ₹6.25 crore. However, the founders’ continuous appeal to have Bansal on board, swayed him. Ultimately, the four sharks, Bansal, Gupta, Thapar and Jain, came together and made a final offer — ₹75 lakh for 15% equity, which valued the company at ₹5 crore. The founders agreed to this offer. The under-grads who built a business of plug-and-fly drones

New Delhi, Dec 23 () Markets regulator Sebi on Monday levied a fine of over Rs 2.5 crore on RoselabsFinance Ltd for violating market norms by conducting fraudulent trading in the scrip of Gujarat Arth Ltd.
 The order comes after an investigation conducted by Sebi in the scrip of Gujarat Arth between October 2003 and January 2004.
 Sebi noted that Roselabs and other promoters of Gujarat Arth were instrumental in issuing misleading corporate announcements on various instances.
 The investigation revealed that the promoters and persons acting in concert (PAC) of the firm including Roselabs Finance "offloaded shares in the market through off market transfer in and around the time of misleading announcement made by the company which created artificial volume and impacted the price of the scrip thus defrauded the investors.," Securities and Exchange Board of India noted.
 Besides, "they transferred shares in off-market and received back shares, which triggered more than 15 per cent of the paid up capital of the company before transferring again their entire holding in off market transaction," it added.
 However, no public announcement was made and they failed to make requisite disclosures in accordance with the market norms.
 Roselabs Finance violated Prohibition of Fraudulent and Unfair trade Practices (PFUTP) norms as well as Substantial Acquisition of Shares and Takeovers regulations.
 The regulator thus imposed a fine of Rs 2,53,72,500 on Roselabs Finance.
 In a separate order, Sebi levied a fine of Rs 7.2 lakh on Sri Navdurga Billets Pvt Ltd for indulging in fraudulent trading in the illiquid stock options segment on the BSE.
 Sebi found that the firm violated PFUTP regulations by executing reversal trades in the stock options segment. SRS SHW

Sebi slaps over Rs 2.5 cr fine on Roselabs Finance for flouting market norms

New Delhi, Jan 19 () In its effort to demystify the budget for common man, the Finance Ministry will start a social media campaign from January 22.
 Through the '#ArthShastri' campaign, the ministry would explain several economic terms through interesting animated videos to help common man and students understand budget exercise in a simple way, an official said.
 The ministry also undertook this exercise before the Budget last year as well, the official added.
 "Curious student Arth unpacks his box of questions in Prof. Shastri's class. Let's see how Dr. Shastri tackles his difficult questions with her sharp insight. Tune into this space to join the classes starting 22nd January @ 11am. #ArthShastri," pinned tweet of the ministry said.
 The ministry has also launched another campaign on Budget promises and delivery with tag '#HamaraBharosa'.
 This campaign on promises and delivery, which has also been launched in 12 major regional languages, started with the health sector, unmanned level crossing and Housing for All.
 Under the series, the Finance Ministry on Sunday issue details on National Infrastructure Pipeline on its twitter handle.
Both campaigns will continue till January 29, the official said.

Snapchat's latest update reveals its grand strategy

Brooklyn architect <a href="http://timseggerman.com/timseggerman/home.html">Tim Seggerman</a> renovated this tiny brownstone apartment on Manhattan's Upper West Side for its owner, an anthropology professor who splits her time between her New York City and a West African village, <a href="http://www.dwell.com/house-tours/article/space-saving-wood-paneled-apartment-manhattan">according to Dwell</a>."You couldn't imagine a place that was more messed up," Seggerman told Dwell of his first look at the space.
But using inspiration from furniture designer George Nakashima, he turned the small apartment into a work of art.He used a variety of different woods, including cypress and bamboo for the cabinets, ash and beech for the staircase, and quartered white oak for the floors.
The apartment has a small kitchen space and a bedroom loft. It even has a washing machine, a rare luxury even in big New York apartments.One of its highlights is a crawl-in library beside the sleeping area, which features a maple ceiling.

Not bad for a space that's not much bigger than a walk-in closet.

Partners are picked every two-years during an extremely intense and secretive selection process.
In 2012, the bank tapped only 70 partners compared to 110 in the previous cycle. The size of the partner class isn't pre-dictated, though. However, it usually tends to be between 1.5 and 1.9% of the full-time employee population at the firm.
This morning, CEO Lloyd Blankfein and president/COO Gary Cohn personally called folks at their desks to let them know they've been made a partner.

Warning of stringent action against black money hoarders, Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> today said 37,000 shell companies indulging in tax evasion have been detected and more than three lakh firms are under the scanner for suspicious dealings post demonetisation, according to PTI news report. He emphasised it would become more difficult for people stashing illicit funds in Swiss banks once automatic tax information exchange regime begins between India and Switzerland. <keyword id="6354642" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Modi">Modi</keyword> said his government is committed to taking even tougher action against those helping hide black money and he is not at all concerned about any political implications of strong moves. The impact of the government's steps on checking black money is clear from the latest figures of Swiss banks, which show that Indians' money parked there has dipped to a record low, the prime minister added. Taking a dig at the previous government, he said the amount had risen sharply by 42 per cent in 2013, referring to a period when the Congress-led UPA regime was in power. In an hour-long speech at the foundation day function of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the prime minister sought to send out a strong message against chartered accountants trying to help entities in black money dealings even as he underlined their powers and responsibility. "The government has cancelled registration of over 1 lakh companies in a single stroke and more than 37,000 shell firms have been identified for strong action," he said. Referring to November 8, 2016 when the government demonetised old Rs 500 and 1,000 currency notes, Modi said he had heard that after the move, the work of the CAs increased and that even many of them cancelled their <keyword id="188" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Diwali">Diwali</keyword> holidays. Stressing that he was going to mention about certain numbers for the first time, he said "more than three lakh registered companies" have come under the scanner for suspicious activities after demonetisation. Data mining about the money that has come into the system after demonetisation is going on, he added. In a veiled dig at the CAs who might have helped entities in dealing with illicit funds post demonetisation, Modi said that he heard that after November 8, CAs had to do a lot of work but not sure how many did work for their clients and how many for the nation. Modi also wondered as to why action has only been taken against just 25 of them for irregularities, while more than 1,400 cases have been pending for many years. According to him, CAs need to safeguard society's economic health and they have a big responsibility. "Your signature is more powerful than that of the prime minister and the government also believes the accounts signed by you," he said addressing the CAs. Further, he asked CAs that if they know anyone with black money, they should warn them that they would not be spared. Along with <keyword id="2517872" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Swachh-Bharat-Abhiyan">Swachh Bharat Abhiyan</keyword> (Clean India), the government is also cleaning India's economy and it has taken tough stand against those who have looted the nation, the prime minister stressed. CAs should take a pledge to bring people under the tax nrather than boasting about the number of clients they have saved from paying taxes, he added. He exhorted them to take charge of bringing their clients to path of honesty and said a wrong audit can impact lives of gullible investors as people take investment decisions on the basis of their audit reports. While stating that there are four goals of a human being -- dharma, arth, kama and moksh -- Modi said that in the economy, it would not be wrong to say that chartered accountants are rishi munis (saints). Alluding to the concept that even if one member of a family breaks the rules, then the family ends, Modi urged the CAs to lead their clients on the path of integrity. "Your patriotism is no less than mine" in ensuring the development of the country, he said. While emphasising that the CAs have been given a new opportunity with the <keyword id="6354679" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="GST">GST</keyword> where they also have a crucial role to play, the prime minister urged them to start preparing the roadmap for 2024 -- when the institute would be completing 75 years. "Never let the opportunity slip out of your hands," he said. More than two crore went on foreign trips last year but there are only 32 lakh people who have declared income above Rs 10 lakh, Modi said and wondered whether there can be only that much number of people with high income. He also called for creating four big Indian accounting firms that are counted among the world's Big-8 even as he cautioned CAs against misuse of their all-powerful signature. The prime minister walked on the dais like it was a town hall event and his speech received thunderous applause. Finance Minister <keyword id="42575" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arun-Jaitley">Arun Jaitley</keyword>, other ministers as well as bureaucrats were present at the function which was also telecast at various city capitals.

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><a href="http://asgardia.space">Asgardia/James Vaughan</a>An artist's concept of an Asgardian space station.</div></div></div>A new country called Asgardia, named after Norse mythology's city in the skies, could be the first nation ever created in space, which will embark on a mission to mine asteroids and defend Earth from dangerous meteorites, space debris, and other threats.That is, if everything goes according to an uncertain and open-ended yet ambitious plan put forth by its founders.The group behind the <a href="http://asgardia.space/">Asgardia project</a> includes space experts based out of Canada, Romania, Russia, and the United States, and they announced their intention to launch the first space nation from a press conference in Paris on Wednesday.Their core concept is to launch a robotic satellite within the next 18 months (60 years after Russia launched Sputnik, the first artificial satellite), then eventually follow up with a permanent space station "where people can live, work, and have their own rules and regulations," one founding member told Business Insider. The hope? To "democratize space," they say.Ultimately, the organizers envision Asgardians building "a state-of-the-art protective shield for all humankind from cosmic manmade and natural threats to life on earth such as space debris, coronal mass ejections and asteroid collisions," according to an emailed press release."We must leave [Earth] because it's very much in the nature of humanity," Ram Jakhu, the director of McGill University's Institute of Air and Space Law and an Asgardia founding project member, told Business Insider in a phone intevierview before Wednesday's press conference."Humanity left Africa and covered the whole globe. The resources of Earth will be depleted," he said. Pelton</a> - director of the Space and Advanced Communications Research Institute (SACRI) at George Washington University</li><li><a href="http://www.esa.int/About_Us/Welcome_to_ESA/ESA_history/50_years_of_humans_in_space/Dumitru_Dorin_Prunariu">Dumitru-Dorin Prunariu</a> - a Romanian cosmonaut</li></ul>Wild noted that the project is in its "early stages" and is hoping the intial publicity will attract engineers, scientists, and other talent."What we're doing now is a call to arms, so we want to widen the net," he said.In addition to experts, Asgardia is calling in you to join its ranks."[T]he site will allow the first 100,000 people to register to become citizens of Asgardia alongside their nationality on [E]arth," the release stated. Asgardia is also crowd-sourcing its <a href="http://asgardia.space/contest/flag">flag, insignia, and even national anthem</a>.<h2>How is it funded?</h2>Wild would not disclose the organization's current funding level, but claimed Ashurbeyli himself had put forth a substantial amount of money to get the Asgardia project going."We're absolutely confident the satellite will launch within 18 months," Wild said. "But in terms of absolute numbers [of money], we're not there yet." Wild would also not disclose how Asgardia's founders plan to acquire cash to fund its future efforts.It will likely need tens of millions of dollars to start out, and perhaps billions to sustain itself.Substantial, fist-size satellites called nanosats can be built and launched for roughly millions of dollars. But sending up larger objects requires more powerful and expensive launchers.Right now, one of the cheapest rides into orbit a couple of hundred miles above Earth is a Falcon 9 rocket, and SpaceX charges roughly <a href="http://spacenews.com/spacexs-new-price-chart-illustrates-performance-cost-of-reusability/">$60 to $65 million for the whole ride</a> (some companies will share payload space and split the cost).Meanwhile, it took 18 nations and about <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/spacex-rocket-cargo-price-by-weight-2016-6">$100 billion to build and operate the International Space Station</a> (ISS).<h2>Can you actually form a new nation in space?</h2><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><a href="http://asgardia.space/">Asgardia.space</a>An image of Asgardia's symbol featured on the supposed nation's website.</div></div></div>In an emailed press release, Ashurbeyli said that "Asgardia is a fully-fledged and independent nation, and a future member of the United Nations - with all the attributes this status entails."However, according to current international space law, the country that launches an object into space is responsible for it, including any damage it causes to denizens of Earth."The project is creating a new framework for ownership and nationhood in space, which will adapt current outer space laws governing responsibility, private ownership and enterprise so they are fit for purpose in the new era of space exploration," the organization said in its emailed release. "By creating a new Space Nation, private enterprise, innovation and the further development of space technology to support humanity will flourish free from the tight restrictions of state control that currently exist."How would that be different from the ISS?"The ISS is joint venture. There's no entity called 'ISS,'" Jakhu said. "It's just one facility, parts of which are controlled by different nations. It's more or less a condo."And when asked about the laws behind forging a country on a yet-to-be-launched space station, Jakhu acknowledged the challenge, but he seemed optimistic."We have not seen any nation attempt this before. So this will be a first," he said. "We'll start small and eventually people will be going there, and working, and having their own rules and regulations ... This facility will become an independent nation."Business Insider contacted the <a href="http://www.unoosa.org/oosa/en/ourwork/spacelaw/index.html">United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs</a> (UNOOSA) for clarification on whether or not <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/the-laws-that-keep-space-from-spiraling-out-of-control-into-a-political-war-zone-2016-9">current space laws</a> would permit a new country to declare itself in space - from the ground, with an uncrewed satellite, or even with people aboard a space station. We also asked the organization how (if it's not yet permitted) a new nation like Asgardia might need to change space law to form itselfUNOOSA represenatives did not immediately respond to our query.<h2>How will Asgardia get built?</h2>While painting an ambitious vision of a peaceful future in space, Asgardia is curiously quiet on the details.Business Insider pressed its representatives for details about timelines, funding, satellite and space station designs, launch vehicles, personnel, and more, but Asgardia declined to provide that information."At this point we're trying not to give too much technical details away," Wild said. "We have some ideas, but it's not at the level of understanding to put into the public domain ... [W]e're taking a measured approach. We're explaining what we want to do now and not jumping the gun on too many details."Jakhu and Asgardia's organizers expect to draw plenty of critics, including analogies to the fizzling Mars One project - an effort that continues to claim it will set down astronauts it has recruited on the red planet, though <a href="https://medium.com/matter/all-dressed-up-for-mars-and-nowhere-to-go-7e76df527ca0#.wgsy21l0k">multiple</a> <a href="https://www.engadget.com/2015/03/24/in-mars-one-we-trust/">investigations</a> <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/mit-student-presentation-reveals-why-mars-one-isnt-feasible-2015-8">suggest</a> it lacks the funding, manpower, and expertise to pull off the feat.However, Jakhu and Wild pointed out that trying to form the first space nation a couple hundred miles above Earth is a lot different than <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-mars-speech-transcript-2016-9">trying to colonize Mars, as Elon Musk of SpaceX</a> and Mars One intend."I'm sure people will ridicule [Asgardia], but I'm not worried. Anyone who tries out-of-the-box things is initially ridiculed," Jakhu said. "Everything that's amazing starts with a crazy idea. After awhile science fiction becomes science fact, and this is an idea which is just being initiated.Asked if Jakhu would live in Asgardia, he responded, "why not?""I think it'd be less risky than going to Mars," he said.
