Chennai, <keyword id="6382967" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Apollo" source="Orion">Apollo</keyword> Hospitals Enterprise Ltd has recorded a standalone profit after tax of Rs 294.8 crore for the three months ended September 30, 2023, the healthcare major said on Friday. Apollo Hospitals reported a standalone profit after tax of Rs 279.1 crore during the corresponding quarter last year. For the half-year period ended September 30, 2023, the standalone profit after tax stood at Rs 508.9 crore, as against Rs 612.3 crore registered in the same period last year, the company said on Friday. Total income on a standalone basis during the quarter under review grew to Rs 1,931.1 crore from Rs 1,758.5 crore during the corresponding quarter of the previous year. For the six-month period ended September 30, 2023, the standalone total income grew to Rs 3,637.3 crore against Rs 3,298.7 crore registered in the same period last year. In a statement, Apollo Hospitals said the board, based on the recommendations of the investment committee, has evaluated and approved an expansion plan for the company involving a balance capital outlay of around Rs 3,400 crore after reckoning for land/asset acquisition costs already incurred. "(Apollo Hospitals is) on track to add 2,300 beds across eight locations at a cost of Rs 3,400 crore over the next three financial years," the statement read. The mode of financing would be internal accruals and debt financing. "This expansion plan is in line with the plan to expand footprint in identified strategic locations to drive continued business growth and cater to the increasing demand for quality healthcare services across the country," the company said. The doctor, popularly known as 'Hyderabaddoctor' on X.com, said this on the social media platform along with a recent study on the benefits of people doing physical activity only on weekends -- known as weekend warriors. "Too busy to exercise on a regular basis? Exercise only on weekends to derive similar mortality benefits," he wrote on X. The study, published in the journal <keyword id="20003777" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bmj" source="keywords">BMJ</keyword>, followed more than 150,000 adults for about two decades. The findings showed that people who exercised once or twice per week had a 15 per cent lower risk of death, similar to those who worked out on 3 or more days per week. However, the benefit was evident only when the duration of exercise sessions was at least 30-60 min. "The results suggest that even busy adults could benefit from taking part in one or two sessions of exercise per week," said the researchers of the study from Universidad de los Andes, Colombia. "Exercise as often as you can: exercising even once a week is better than not exercising. The company said that the SaaS transition will also provide more value to its partner clinics and hospitals in addition to flexibility. More importantly, the new system will make it more cost-effective, and it can be passed on to its clients. “With this move, the company aims to improve its integration, enabling timely upgrades and greater ease of use, at four times reduction in costs as compared to conventional IT infrastructure,” Insta said in a statement. ‘Helps anticipate revenues &amp; shorten sales lifecycle’ Since it was acquired in 2015 by Practo, Insta grew its business by 368%. Practo’s Insta says its SaaS transition will help reduce costs by 4x

The use of Artificial Intelligence (<keyword id="6355999" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ai" source="Orion">AI</keyword>) in the medical sciences will be beneficial for the early diagnosis of a disease, however, it would not replace the usability of doctors, an expert said on Monday, while also adding that those doctors who do not use AI will be replaced. In an exclusive interview with ANI, Sangeeta Reddy, Joint Managing Director, Apollo hospitals said, "Artificial intelligence is useful in early diagnosis. The incidence of disease will come down and the quality of care will go up and we will see universal access to care." "AI won't replace the doctors but those doctors will be replaced who don't use Artificial Intelligence," she added. The expert said that a disease cannot be cured by code (used in the AI) and that there will always be a requirement for nurses and doctors. Detailing the importance of AI, she explained further about the purpose behind two days conference with international healthcare professionals. "Basically we have been conducting this conference of transforming healthcare with IT and patient safety for the last 9 -10 years and the ideology is really that healthcare is transforming at a very rapid pace and technology is enabling that transformation," she said. The expert further explained the use of the hospital information system with no errors. "Whether it's in the arena of patient safety or quality, in standardised pathways in hospital information systems, all these are helping to do the same process in a repeated manner perfectly with no error," she said. Reddy further stressed that patient safety increases when there is a minimum error. This is the beginning of an AI engine, which can prompt a doctor on what is the best and most appropriate care. I want to highlight this here that this is not for individual patients," Reddy said. "So like the example I gave earlier, if a patient has a cough, you know you will say it is a dry cough. How many days, and what are the symptoms? Is it bronchitis? Are you in Delhi as the pollution levels are high here? But maybe also that patient was treated for lung cancer one month ago. So his doctor will know all these things. Therefore this tool is not for the public, but it is given free for use by any doctor in India to assist them in treating better and over the years this engine will become more and more powerful," she said. They called for increasing accessibility to mental health resources, raising <keyword id="19927137" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="awareness" source="keywords">awareness</keyword>, reducing <keyword id="20448786" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="stigma" source="keywords">stigma</keyword> and developing robust support systems to tackle the issue while also highlighting the need to find comprehensive solutions to contributing factors such as work pressure and societal expectations, among others. "Mental health problems are an unaddressed health crisis in India. Nearly 20 per cent of people live with mental health problems in India. Depression and anxiety are common causes of disability. There is a treatment gap of more than 80 per cent," Achal Bhagat, Senior Consultant Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, Delhi, said. The indirect economic cost of loss of livelihoods due to mental health is significantly high as it is not only for the person living with mental health problems but also due to the loss of livelihoods for the caregivers, he added. Expressing similar views, Shambhavi Jaiman, Consultant Psychiatrist at Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram, said the impact on productivity is substantial, reflecting the broader implications for societal well-being and economic stability. "The contributing factors - work pressure, societal expectations, financial worries, and insufficient support systems - create a complex web of stressors that require comprehensive solutions," she added. Jaiman said addressing mental health issues involves increasing accessibility to mental health resources, raising awareness, reducing stigma and developing robust support systems. "Creating a supportive environment where mental health is prioritised is essential for fostering a healthier, more productive society," she said. Sameer Malhotra, Senior Director and Head Dept of Mental Health and Behavioural Sciences at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, pointed out that factors such as growing consumerism, excessive competition, shrinking social and family support networks, increased pace of life and growing distress, timeline pressures, lesser time for self and family are driving rise in mental health problems globally. "Disturbed mindset influences concentration, productivity at work and economics as well," he added. The Economic Survey 2023-24 flagged a rise in mental health issues among Indians, calling for a paradigm shift towards a bottom-up, whole-of-community approach to address the problem. Although it noted that India is creating positive momentum in policy development by recognising mental health as a fundamental aspect of overall well-being, the survey said, "While most of the policy design is in place, proper implementation can accelerate the improvement on the ground. That said, there remain certain gaps in the existing programmes which need to be addressed to maximise their effectiveness". The fundamental issue of the lack of awareness about mental health and the stigma surrounding it can render any sincerely crafted programme unfeasible, it added. "Hence, there is a need to bring about a paradigm shift and utilise a bottom-up, whole-of-community approach in addressing the topic of mental health. Breaking the stigma starts with taking cognisance of the natural human tendency to accept physical ailments and seeking treatment for the same while being in denial about mental health issues," the survey said. To an extent, the denial is an outcome of fear about social attitudes and social acceptance after one 'comes out' with mental health issues, it said. "For public health officials, tackling mental health requires acknowledging and addressing this fundamental reluctance. Arguably, mental health issues drag down productivity more widely in the ecosystem than individuals' physical health issues. Hence, paying attention to mental health issues in society is both a health and an economic imperative," the document noted.
