Railway Minister <keyword id="6356597" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Suresh-Prabhu">Suresh Prabhu</keyword> today flagged off the first indigenously built '<keyword id="195876" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Medha">Medha</keyword>' rake on the western corridor of the city, according to a <keyword id="6367495" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="PTI">PTI</keyword> news report. 
 "We are proud to have built this rake under the Make in India campaign. We are working on various railway projects worth Rs 51,000 crore for the people of Mumbai city, besides projects worth Rs 1.36 lakh crore are underway for the state of <keyword id="13126" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maharashtra">Maharashtra</keyword>," <keyword id="19179" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="prabhu">Prabhu</keyword> said in his speech. 
 Two Medha rakes were on a trial mode since last two years and have been designed and built at the <keyword id="49000" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Integral-Coach-Factory">Integral Coach Factory</keyword> in Chennai. 
 The seats of these trains are ergonomically designed for better seating comfort of the passengers. The cost of each Medha rake is Rs 43.23 crore, as against Rs 44.36 crore spent for <keyword id="117791" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bombardier">Bombardier</keyword> rakes. 
 
Prabhu said his ministry was on a "mission mode" to transform the Railways. 
 
"We have chalked out a roadmap to transform the railway and therefore, we have prepared the blueprint of long-term, short-term and medium-term investment to achieve this target. Most importantly, railway authorities have been vested powers to use the fund according to their profile," said Prabhu. 
 During the event, Prabhu also flagged off Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Tatanagar-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus <keyword id="3260043" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Antyodaya-Express">Antyodaya Express</keyword> (bi-weekly). 
 Having a seating capacity of 2,000, the <keyword id="113158" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Antyodaya">Antyodaya</keyword> Express is meant to be a long-distance, fully unreserved, super-fast train service, which will cover the distance between the two cities in 25 hours. 
 
20-general-coach Antyodaya train has many advanced amenities like water purifiers, fire extinguishers, mobile charging points, anti-theft arrangement, cushioned luggage racks with coat hooks, LED lights and bio-toilets. 
 The regular service will leave <keyword id="426621" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lokmanya-Tilak-Terminus">Lokmanya Tilak Terminus</keyword> at 1.20 PM every Tuesday and Saturday and enroute the train will halt at Igatpuri, Bhusaval, Nagpur, Gondia, Durg, <keyword id="45327" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Raipur">Raipur</keyword>, Bilaspur, Raigarh, Jharsuguda, Rourkela and Chakradharpur stations. 
 Prabhu also flagged off Miraj- Solapur-Miraj Express daily train through a video link, besides announcing <keyword id="4309574" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="lokmanya-tilak-terminus-lucknow-lokmanya-tilak">Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Lucknow-Lokmanya Tilak</keyword> Terminus AC Superfast (weekly), which will commence its regular services from April 8, 2017. 
 
He also laid foundation stone for the construction of the fourth line between Bhusaval-Jalgaon a 24-km stretch at an approximate cost of Rs 260 crores. 
 
During the event, Prabhu also inaugurated the mechanised laundry installed at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (coaching depot) having capacity of 13,000 bed rolls per day.

Indian Railways just got its first 'Make in India' train rake

Five coaches of the <keyword id="291162" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="north-east-express" source="Orion">North East Express</keyword> coming from Anand Vihar Terminus in Delhi derailed in Bihar on Wednesday, a <keyword id="6356740" type="General" weightage="60" keywordseo="railway" source="Orion">railway</keyword> official said. The mishap took place close to Raghunathpur station near <keyword id="6396160" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="buxar" source="Orion">Buxar</keyword> around 9.35 pm. The train was on its way to <keyword id="6471686" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="kamakhya" source="Orion">Kamakhya</keyword> near Guwahati in Assam. At least four people were killed and many others were injured. Those with serious injuries were rushed to AIIMS, Patna. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on X "Will find the root cause of the derailment" even as he expressed condolences for the loss of lives. The minister said evacuation and rescue operations were completed and all coaches have been checked. "The train was coming at a normal speed but suddenly we heard a loud sound and a plume of smoke rose out of the train. We rushed to see what happened. We saw that the train had derailed and the AC coaches were the most damaged, Hari Pathak, a local resident said. Television visuals showed locals rushing to the rescue of the passengers and helping them come out of at least two toppled coaches. The visuals also showed a woman passenger in a state of shock being helped out of a coach by locals. Jagdishpur SDPO Rajiv Chandra Singh said electric wires and poles, and rail tracks have been damaged due to the accident. He said that while some coaches lost balance and fell, none of them overturned due to which there are less casualties. Chief Public Relations Officer of East Central Railway zone Birendra Kumar told PTI that the accident took place less than half an hour after the train left the Buxar station and was headed for Ara. "The derailment took place near Raghunathpur station where the train does not have a scheduled stoppage," he said. Relief measures were initiated immediately after the incident, with ambulances and doctors rushing to the site. Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav issued a statement stating that the departments of disaster management and health have been asked to take immediate steps to ensure the quickest possible relief to as many people as possible. "I have also spoken to the district magistrates of Buxar and Bhojpur (where Ara is headquartered) with instructions to reach the site at the earliest and speed up relief work," he said. As a fallout, Indian Railways has cancelled ten trains and diverted 21 trains. Below are the details: According to a statement issued by the East Central Railway zone, trains that have been cancelled include: Patna-Puri Special (03230), Sasaram-Ara Special (03620), Bhabua Road Express Special (03617), Patna--DDU Memu Pass Spl (03203), Patna-Buxar Memu Pass Special (03375). Besides, two trains have been partially cancelled and they include: Patna-DDU Express (13209) which will run upto Ara and DDU-Patna Express (13210), which will also run upto Ara. Trains that have been diverted onto alternate routes include: Raxaul Antyodaya Express (15548), Dibrugarh Express (15945), Magadh Express (20802), Barauni Express (19483), Asansol SF Express (12362), Guwahati Poorvottar Sampark Kranti Express (22450), Brahmaputra Mail (15657) among others.

North East Express derails in Bihar leaving 4 dead; 10 trains cancelled, 21 diverted

The Ministry of <keyword id="6360676" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="railways" source="Orion">Railways</keyword> has increased the speed of 500 <keyword id="5947970" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mail-express-trains" source="Orion">Mail Express trains</keyword> through the new time table of the Railways from Monday. Now, these <keyword id="6413405" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="express" source="Orion">express</keyword> trains will reach their destination faster by 10 to 70 minutes. Along with this, Railways has converted 130 services i.e. 65 pairs from Express to Superfast. It is expected that the new time table will improve the punctuality of trains by about 9 percent, due to which about 84 percent of the trains will reach their destinations at the right time. Indian Railways runs about 3240 Mail/Express trains daily which include Vande Bharat Express, Gatimaan Express, Rajdhani Express, Shatabdi Express, Humsafar Express, Tejas Express, Duronto Express, Antyodaya Express, Garib Rath Express, Sampark Kranti Express, Yuva Express, Uday Express. Apart from these, about 3000 passenger trains and approximately more than 5600 suburban trains run daily in which about 2.23 crore people travel daily. Apart from these, a large number of goods trains are operated. Constant efforts are made to run these trains in a time-bound manner and make them reach their destinations on time. Every year, attempts are made to increase the speed of trains while making the new time table of trains. During the pandemic, the Railways in collaboration with IIT Mumbai had tried to make a zero based time table. After all these efforts, the new time table has been implemented from 1 October 2022. In this, the average speed of all trains of Railways has been increased by 5 percent. According to the Ministry of Railways, in making the new time table, the Railways has got 5 percent additional lines to run new trains. With this exercise, 5 percent more capacity has been developed on the existing railway line to run new trains. The punctuality in trains in the year 2019-20 was 75 per cent but the same has increased by 9 percent to 84 percent in the year 2022-23. Railways increased the speed of 500 mail express trains by 10-70 minutes

(Eds: Adds details) New Delhi, Jun 17 () Out of the 503 isolation coaches deployed in Delhi for COVID-19 patients, 317 will be ready by Wednesday night and the rest by Thursday, the Northern Railways said. The coaches were deployed at nine stations in the national capital after Union Home Minister Amit Shah made the announcement as part of measures to contain the novel coronavirus pandemic, officials said. Shah had made the announcement after a meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday over the COVID-19 situation in the national capital, where the disease has claimed 1,837 lives and infected 44,688 people so far. Northern and North Central Railway General Manager Rajiv Chaudhary said all these coaches will be fully ready for coronavirus patients by Thursday, while 317 can house patients from tonight. He said while all the coaches have been deployed, final touches like putting up mosquito nets and curtains, and installing dustbins, cleaning faucets and oxygen cylinders, are being completed. The national transporter is using different methods to keep the inside of coaches cool, Chaudhary said. "Temperature is an issue in isolation coaches. The view of medical experts was that temperature will not harm patients. We have made arrangements to cool the coaches through various means," he said. Chaudhary said all the coaches have fans and "we have a paint that can reduce temperature, we can (also) sprinkle water". "We assure you that the temperature will not be unbearable (inside the coaches)," he said. The general manager said that at the Shakur Basti station here, there is a shed, so the temperature will be less inside coaches, while at other locations, "we are experimenting with different things". The Railways has already started a series of trials to insulate roofs of 100 of the converted coaches in the Northern and North Central Zones as per standards prescribed by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation, a senior railway official told . These trials are expected to help reduce temperature inside the coaches by five to six degrees. The Railways is planning to insulate roofs of all the 5,000 coaches that have been converted into isolation coaches, the official said. The cost of insulating these coaches, by using a solution developed by IIT Mumbai, is estimated to be Rs 1 lakh per coach. Earlier, a trial was conducted on around 100 coaches of the Humsafar Express, the Jan Shatabdi Express and the Antyodaya Express, using another 'Make-in-India' product 3M Scotchkote Polytech Exp RG700, officials said. This product is a solar reflective coating which reduces heat inside any enclosure and can be applied on various metallic and non-metallic substrates, they said. The Railways is also experimenting with special bubble sheetings on roof of coaches deployed at the Anand Vihar railway station in Delhi. It has shown that temperature inside coaches can be reduced by 3 to 3.5 degrees, the officials said. Chaudhary said that the plan is to have two air-conditioned coaches for every 22 COVID care unit coaches for the medical staff to rest in. The isolation coaches in Delhi here are among the 960 converted coaches deployed so far in five different states in an effort to augment facilities for COVID-19 patients.While Delhi's Anand Vihar railway station has got the lion's share with 267 such coaches at its seven platforms, there are 50 each in Shakur Basti and Sarai Rohilla. The Railways has deployed 33 coaches in Delhi Cantonment, 30 at Adarsh Nagar, 21 at Safdarjung station, 13 each at Tughlaqabad and Shahdara, and 26 at Patel Nagar. Chaudhary also said that Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia supervised the coaches at Shakur Basti station on Wednesday and expressed hope that patients will start arriving as and when needed.
