You could be forgiven for thinking you were watching a vintage movie, but this YouTube video is the fall/winter 2021 runway presentation by <keyword id="689297" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Anna-Sui">Anna Sui</keyword>.</p><p>Sui isn't the only designer who has embraced the sixties trend in 2021. Versace, Andrew Gn, and Dolce &amp; Gabbana all sent mod silhouettes down their virtual runways.</p><p>From Versace's colored tights to Dolce &amp; Gabbana's monochrome checks, the optimistic, hedonistic sixties vibe seems to be just what the world of <keyword id="6" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="fashion">fashion</keyword> needs after 2020.</p><div type="image" title="Dolce and Gabbana FW21" height="2000" width="2661" msid="82210175" hostid="261"></div><p>The mod culture began in 1960s England. The mods were the baby boomers - the children of the wartime generation. They were born into a time of conformity, austerity, and poverty, and when they became teenagers, they were ready to splurge.</p><p>Now in 2021, another generation is ready to set itself free, trend forecaster Katie Irving of the Moonshot Agency told Insider.</p><p>"The <keyword id="7" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="style">style</keyword> of the sixties was the product of revolution and technology and both of those words describe our current environment once again," Irving said.</p><p>Anna Sui echoed the sentiment in her runway notes: "As we wait 'on pause' for the new world that will emerge from this pandemic, my mind is awhirl with visions of the vibrant world that lies just ahead."</p><h2>Breaking rules and setting trends</h2><p>Irving said TV shows like "The Queen's Gambit," which <a href="https://www.elle.com/uk/life-and-culture/culture/a34643247/queens-gambit-anya-taylor-joy/#:~:text=up%20that%20assessment.-,',the%20US%20championship%20in%201957).57).">takes place</a> from 1958-1968, may have helped fuel our love for mod fashion. She also said this could just be the start for retro styles.</p><p>"We will continue to see nostalgic fashion periods trend during this time of uncertainty and change as people continue to be drawn to the familiarity of the past," Irving said.</p><div type="image" title="queen's gambit" height="1500" width="2000" msid="82210178" hostid="261"></div><p>Mod fashion and music have been long intertwined. The Italian Vespa- or Lambretta-riding mods would ride to nightclubs where they would dance the night away to jazz, American R&amp;B, and then The Who. The popstars they listened to were often mods themselves.</p><p>For the launch of a new London exhibition that opens in September 2021 and celebrates sixties boutiques, sixties popstar Marianne Faithfull said: "We were young, rich and beautiful, and the tide - we thought - was turning in our favour. We thought we were going to change everything of course, but mostly we were going to change the rules."</p><p>The mod look first showed it was going to be the feel-good trend of 2021 when miniskirts appeared in spring/summer 2021 shows by Miu Miu and Isabel Marant. Models Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber arrived at an album launch wearing micro miniskirts, and pop queen Rihanna crowned the trend when she was papped in Santa Monica last month wearing a Rick Owens mini.</p><p>Mods not only broke the rules when it came to fashion, but make-up, too. A new generation of trendsetters is now embracing the trend in their own way, and much of it is being showcased on - where else? - <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/tag/modmakeup">TikTok</a>.</p><p>Beauty addicts on TikTok are practicing the graphic floating crease and trying to keep shaky hands in check. They can create the look using the Haus of Mod collection from Lady Gaga's makeup brand Haus Labs, and seek further inspiration from a video for Ariana Grande's latest album, "Positions."</p><h2>A look for every season</h2><p>While celebrities have embraced mod style for spring, designers have shown that it will also fill our wardrobes this fall.</p><p>Belgian designer <a href="https://www.instagram.com/nicolas.difelice/?hl=en">Nicolas Di Felice</a> marked his debut collection for Courrèges by leaning into the decade that made the brand famous. While the virtual presentation placed the collection in a post-pandemic world, Di Felice had clearly gone through the history books. He reimagined the looks that got its late founder <a href="https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2016/01/08/462392349/designer-andr-courr-ges-master-of-miniskirts-and-go-go-boots-dies">André Courrèges</a> noticed - the iconic white dress, cut-out dresses, and even white go-go boots.</p><p>Paris-based Singaporean designer Andrew Gn chose a bold palette for his Fall/Winter <a href="https://www.andrewgn.com/en/collections/fw20">collection</a> including bright vermilion, fuchsia, golden yellow, emerald green, and lilac, which he mixed with khaki and camel - a palette any mod would be familiar with. Donatella Versace also seemed inspired by the Wild Ones vibe as her fall/winter 2021 <a href="https://www.versace.com/international/en/world-of-versace/stories/fashion-shows/fw-2021-men-women.html">collection</a> pays homage to the rebel spirit, freedom, and dance floor communities.</p><div type="image" title="Versace_FW21_Look (51).JPG" height="2000" width="2666" msid="82210180" hostid="261"></div><p>Celebrity fashion photographer Russel Wong told Insider that mod style has continued to appeal across the decades because it is a celebration of craftsmanship.</p><p>"That period is so defining, so well-crafted and so well designed," said Wong. <ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="12361427" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="hm" source="Orion">H&amp;M</keyword> has been called out for copying Asian-American designer Chet Lo's popular spiky knitwear.</li><li>"Authenticity, originality and creativity can never be reproduced," Lo said on Instagram.</li></ul><p>Asian American designer Chet Lo has called out a "certain <keyword id="11974708" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="fast-fashion" source="Orion">fast fashion</keyword> company" for copying his signature spiky knitwear designs.</p><p>Last Saturday, the London-based designer took to <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CcnL3fINHEZ/">Instagram</a> to address the claims that a mass <keyword id="11893303" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="fashion" source="Orion">fashion</keyword> brand had plagiarized his work. </p><p>"As a small brand and queer POC independent designer, I have worked incredibly hard to produce something that was based off my heritage," he said. "I have always based my designs around my own personal experiences and I feel that it can be seen in my work."</p><p>"These fast fashion companies consistently replicate works of smaller and more creative designers, but at the end of the day, authenticity, originality, and creativity can never be reproduced," he continued.</p><p>While Lo declined to name the fast fashion company in question, the Instagram <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CcoT53_ObwJ/">watchdog account Diet Prada</a> juxtaposed pieces from H&amp;M's new "Cherish Waste" collection next to some of Lo's designs for comparison. </p><p>The Diet Prada post also included screenshots of British-American designer Harris Reed's now-expired Instagram Stories, where Reed had written: "I'm not one to post things about brands ripping off brands but to see H&amp;M copying a young queer designer who works harder than anyone I know is truly disgusting."</p><p>Lo is known for his textured spiky knitwear designs reminiscent of the durian fruit, which have been seen on celebrities including <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CQyhdrDtTRh/">Kylie Jenner</a> and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CVqUi3wNEzj/">Dua Lipa</a>. In Doja Cat and SZA's <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EVVKs6DQLo">"Kiss Me More" music video</a>, which has racked up more than 331 million views on YouTube, the singers can also be seen wearing Lo's custom spiky bodysuits. </p><p>His unisex garments and accessories run from around <a href="https://www.chetlo.com/store/p/pink-spiky-cap">$200 for a swim cap</a> to <a href="https://www.chetlo.com/store/p/large-spiky-bag">$6,290 for an extra-large bag</a>. </p><p>In his Instagram post, Lo added: "Each piece ordered through my website is hand-knitted with love and care and not mass-produced just to make profits. I believe in working in an ethical and beautiful way, which I hope my clients and you all can appreciate."</p><p>H&amp;M did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.</p><p>Fast fashion brands have been <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/zara-forever-21-fast-fashion-full-of-copycats-2018-3">accused numerous times</a> before for copying runway designs, which allows them to have new pieces ready to hit the shelves very quickly.</p><p>Spanish brand Mango for example, has been accused of ripping off Gucci designs in the past, while Forever 21 has been accused of stealing designs from the likes of Anna Sui and Diane von Furstenberg, <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/magazines/panache/some-controversial-high-profile-instances-of-design-copy/articleshow/63059688.cms?from=mdr">per India's The Economic Times.</a></p><p>Last year, Nigerian crochet clothing brand <a href="https://www.insider.com/nigerian-crochet-brand-elexiay-claims-shein-copied-sweater-design-2021-7">Elexiay accused Chinese company Shein</a> of copying one of its sweater designs featuring a cross-body pattern and long sleeves.</p>

Target's 20 Years of Design for All anniversary collection celebrates collaborations with 20 of its iconic design partners

We loved their feel and fit. </li></ul><p>Some summer jobs, like scooping ice cream or riding a mail route, are but a blip in our professional lives. Others, like Mark Thatcher's college summer job of guiding rafting trips in the Grand Canyon's Colorado River, have more widespread reverberations. </p><p>Thatcher is the founder of <a href="https://amzn.to/31FJ9ql" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Teva</a> (Hebrew for "nature"), the Velcro-strapped sport sandal that changed the way outdoor enthusiasts traversed rivers and mountains and has become a beloved icon in the outdoor community.  </p><p>As a river guide, he adapted his flip-flops so they would stay on his feet through all the bumps and even flips of his boat. After graduation, he worked as an exploration geophysicist, but was laid off in 1982. I wore sneakers the first day, but after discovering how much more comfortable these sandals were on the second day, I stuck with them through the remainder of the festival. </p><p>I have fairly flat feet, but these sandals don't have an extreme arch, so they were perfect for the shape of my feet. The footbed is soft, cushioned, and breathable, while the rubber sole has traction that allowed me to walk across the many types of terrain, wet and dry, of the Bay without worry. It was easy to get a comfortable fit by adjusting the three different Velcro straps. </p><p>Did I have a funky sandal tan by the end of the weekend? Of course. I've been pretty strongly anti-sandals-for-men but I get so hot in the summer that I decided to give them a chance. These Tevas fit exactly as I remember, they're comfortable, and while the Velcro is a bit dorky, it does offer an adjustable and secure fit, and it's nice that there are multiple places to tweak the straps to get the ideal fit. </span></p><p><span>I don't know if it's my faulty memory, but I distinctly recall from when I was younger that the Teva footbed felt strange, but the one on this model is super comfortable. It gives your feed the ability to breathe while also maintaining good traction. Mandals are definitely an occasion-specific look (day in the park, light hike in the woods, walking the dog), but I'm really enjoying it. </span></p><p><span>At $70 it's a bit of an investment, but if you're going to do something, do it right, I guess. When I was younger, the only reason to get rid of Tevas and get a new pair was that you grew out of them, and these feel the same way. I'll admit, I generally like the look of Chacos better, but I find Tevas to be slightly more comfortable for my arches. This pair specifically, the Mack Daddy of Teva's performance sandals, is one of the most comfortable shoes I own. </p><p>The sole is ultra-cushioned and has extreme traction both against my foot and against the ground. The straps are extremely secure (more so than what I remember the basic pair to feel like), and the plastic pieces that connect the straps are all padded against the skin to prevent irritation. The cupped heel also keeps me from sliding around, which I appreciate when my feet get sweaty. This features make them excellent for hiking and white-water rafting since you need something cushioned enough to keep you from feeling the acute pressure of jagged rocks underfoot. </p><p>Aesthetically, I love that I can transition these from a hike to a day out in Manhattan. I've paired these chunky black sandals with a structured white dress and a straw hat (a la my favorite designer, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/ceciliebahnsen/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cecilie Bahnsen</a>), as well as a pair of leggings and a white T-shirt (the outfit I currently have on as I write this). These cult-favorite outdoor sandals are the only reason my feet survived a 3-day music festival

(That's according to rough estimates from reproductive endocrinologists.)</p><p>The extra embryos serve as sort of a backup for couples doing IVF, in case the first few tries don't result in pregnancy. But the embryos don't go away when a couple decides to stop treatment - they must be stored in liquid nitrogen at a cost of $300 to $1,200 per year, until the couple decides what to do with them.</p><p>If they don't want to have more kids, the options are to thaw and dispose of the embryos, donate them for research, or donate them to another couple facing infertility.</p><p>More and more couples are choosing to donate their unused embryos to other couples who haven't been able to conceive. Data from the <a href="https://www.sartcorsonline.com/rptCSR_PublicMultYear.aspx?ClinicPKID=0">Society for Assisted Reproduction Technology</a> shows 1,084 IVF transfers used donated embryos in 2013, nearly double the 596 transfers in 2009.</p><p>As the number of embryos frozen and donated increases, <strong>disagreements about the moral and legal status of human embryos</strong>, which some couples consider their "potential children," <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/18/us/embryos-egg-donors-difficult-issues.html">according to Lewin</a>, become more prominent.</p><h2>How should we treat an embryo?</h2><p>Some embryo storage centers - generally <a href="https://www.embryodonation.org/about/">those affiliated with religious groups</a> - treat the process of transferring one couple's embryos to another couple like a conventional adoption.</p><p>In contrast, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) uses the term "donation," and pointedly opposes calling the process "adoption" in its <a href="https://www.asrm.org/uploadedFiles/ASRM_Content/News_and_Publications/Ethics_Committee_Reports_and_Statements/Defining%20embryo%20donation2013.pdf">ethics committee's 2013 report</a> on the matter.</p><p>"We find that this language is deceptive because it reinforces a conceptualization of the embryo as a fully entitled legal being and thus leads to a series of procedures that are not appropriate," the report says.</p><p>The position of the ethics committee has long been that human embryos deserve more consideration than other body tissues due to their potential to become persons, but that they should not be treated as persons. The report continues: "The donation of embryos for reproductive purposes is fundamentally a medical procedure intended to result in pregnancy and should be treated as such."</p><p><a href="http://www.bu.edu/sph/profile/george-annas/">George Annas</a>, a bioethicist at Boston University who was at one point a member of the ASRM ethics committee, though not an author of the 2013 report on embryo donation, challenged the report's conclusions in an <a href="http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/fertility/interviews/annas.html">interview</a> with Frontline. The assisted reproduction industry forgets that the purpose of pregnancy is to have healthy babies, and puts the interests of couples and physicians before those of the children, he says.</p><p>"If you go through the ethics statements of [ASRM and SART], and you didn't know anything about what they were doing, you would probably be shocked to learn that they are helping people make babies, because the interests of the children never ever have been considered by either organization," he argues, in the Frontline interview. (Take, for example, the <a href="http://fusion.net/story/128769/embryo-contract-sofia-vergara-ex-nick-loeb-signed/">tussle</a> between actress Sophia Vergara and her ex-fiancé Nick Loeb, who wants to use the embryos to have children while she does not.)</p><p>There's little consistency in legal rulings on the cases that have gone to court, <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/18/us/embryos-egg-donors-difficult-issues.html">Lewin reports</a>. Sometimes judges say it's a matter of contract, others say courts can't enforce those contracts, others try to balance the interests of the parties, and still others require mutual consent from both parties for embryos to be used. Others pay them an appearance fee."</span></span></span></p>
<p><span><span>While The Vivant says </span></span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">celebrities sitting in the front row are paid up to $100,000, THR <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/here-are-the-crazy-paychecks-celebs-get-to-attend-fashion-shows-2012-9" target="_blank">published a breakdown</a> last year of which specific celebrities get paid to sit front and center:</span></p>
