The menace of ragging continues to haunt students in some institutions in <keyword id="13104" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="telugu" source="Orion">Telugu</keyword> states as in the latest case in Andhra Pradesh, 18 students of <keyword id="6034800" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jntu-anantapur" source="Orion">JNTU Anantapur</keyword> have been suspended for <keyword id="1325638" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ragging-juniors" source="Orion">ragging juniors</keyword>. The College Academic Council of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (<keyword id="99885" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jntu" source="Orion">JNTU</keyword>) suspended students of Anantapur Engineering College for forcibly taking some freshers to their hostel. The juniors were allegedly forced to stand half-naked and follow orders of the seniors. The incident took place on Friday night but came to light a day later. The college authorities learnt about ragging when a parent of one of the first-year students complained. The college authorities came to know that some first-year students were taken to <keyword id="13120357" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gurukula-hostel" source="Orion">Gurukula Hostel</keyword>, the hostel of seniors. When questioned by the college principal, the freshers revealed how they were ragged by the seniors. Taking a serious note of the incident, the College Academic Council suspended 18 students of the second year found involved in the ragging from academics and hostel. The Council began a detailed inquiry on Monday to ascertain facts from the victims and other students for further action. Police also took suo-moto note of the ragging incident and began a probe. According to Anantapur Superintendent of Police Fakkerappa Kaginelli, the police have not received any complaint but they took suo-moto cognizance and deputed a DSP-rank officer to probe the incident. This is the second incident of ragging in the government-run institutions in the Telugu states in the last one month. Six students of a government medical college in Telangana's Suryapet were suspended for one year for ragging a junior student last month. Second year MBBS students of the Government Medical College Suryapet were punished after they were found involved. They were also arrested by the police under the Anti-Ragging Act. The police rescued the junior student Sai Kumar after receiving a call that some senior students were ragging him in the Boys hostel of the college. The complainant alleged that a group of students came to his room, ordered him to take off his clothes and took video shots of him in their mobile phones. They also tried to cut his hair. The victim said he was physically and mentally tortured for two hours. He later managed to escape from them and called up his father after hiding in another room. Over 18 students of Andhra Pradesh's JNTU college suspended for ragging juniors

New Delhi, May 18 () Kia Motors India on Monday said it has resumed production at its Anantapur-based plant after putting in place a comprehensive regime of safety measures.The facility commenced operations on May 8 after getting mandatory approvals from the government authorities, the South Korean auto firm said in a statement.Currently, the plant is operating on a single shift basis and operations will begin in full force only after the COVID-19 situation in the country normalises, it added.The company said it invested the initial few days to ready its facilities, putting all safety measures in place for the well-being of its employees and vendors."These are unprecedented conditions and we are committed to adapting to the new norms of the world while we work towards normalcy," Kia Motors India MD and CEO Kookhyun Shim said.The company's initial focus is to keep employees motivated, retain a positive outlook and deliver on promises to the customers, he added."The company's priorities are to clear pending orders for the Seltos and Carnival, and also to prepare the line for the eagerly anticipated compact SUV Sonet," Shim said.The company's stakeholders, including suppliers and logistics partners, are all in-line with the current production and have assured support in case the auto firm has to increase production volumes over the coming days, he added.Kia utilises the Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh) plant, which currently has production capacity of around 3 lakh units per annum, to cater to both domestic and international markets. Kia Motors resumes operations at Anantapur manufacturing facility

 The project, in its entirety, will include three phases where, whichever route is chosen, will consist of phase I and phase II.  Swaroop lost his eyesight when he was eight after high fever damaged his optic nerve. Born to parents who run a grocery store in <keyword id="70188" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Anantapur">Anantapur</keyword> district, he wanted to improve the home-grown business. Unfazed by lost eyesight, he completed his studies like a regular student and enrolled in Career Launcher, eyeing to get into one of the IIMs. Using a reading software, he would listen to pdf versions of books and academic content. 
 
He finally appeared in CAT this year, only to crack the exam and clinch a place in IIM.

Karan Adani said currently, Adani Group operates the two largest private ports in Andhra Pradesh - Krishnapatnam and Gangavaram, with a total capacity of 100 million tonnes per annum. "In the next 5 years, not only do we aim to double this capacity, but also transform these ports into industrial port cities," he said. "By developing industrial clusters at Krishnapatnam and Gangavaram and attracting industries, we will be able to reduce the logistics costs drastically, thus making these industries far more competitive globally." The group is also developing 15,000 MW of renewable power projects over the next few years across five districts of Anantapur, Kadapa, Kurnool, Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram. "Our other investments in the state include cement manufacturing units and data centres. Presently we do not have any cement manufacturing capacity in Andhra Pradesh. Hence, as part of our expansion plans, we will be setting up cement plants in Kadapa and Nadikudi with a total capacity of 10 million tonnes per annum," he said. Also, the group is working on developing a 400 MW of data centre in Visakhapatnam. "These projects will bring further employment opportunities and demonstrate our commitment to the sustainable growth of the state of Andhra Pradesh," he said. He praised Andhra Pradesh for its "excellent infrastructure, large manufacturing base, talented youth, and business-friendly environment." With the second longest coastline in India, the state has been recognised by the World Bank as the No.1 implementer of energy efficiency and conservation programmes. Turning to CSR work being done by Adani Foundation, he said "our footprint in the state of Andhra Pradesh is getting bigger as I speak on this occasion." "We are investing in education, healthcare, nutrition, access to potable water, sports and building an ecosystem of skilling and sustainable livelihood in the state. Our teams are executing programs in Nellore, Tirupati, and Visakhapatnam districts. At present, we have invested over Rs 4200 crore and are touching over 180,000 lives and counting, in the state," he added. Adani to set up cement plants, data centre in Andhra Pradesh

Not moving out of Andhra Pradesh, says Kia MotorsHyderabad, Feb 7 (): Kia Motors India on Friday deniedreports of moving its Andhra Pradesh plant to neighbouringTamil Nadu.The reports said Kia Motors was in talks with Tamil Nadugovernment to relocate its plant from Anantapur to theneighbouring state for a variety of reasons. New Delhi, Dec 2 () Kia Motors India on Monday said it sold 14,005 units of Seltos SUV in November.
 With a 9 per cent increase from last month's sales, Seltos continues to be the bestselling SUV in the country for the second consecutive month, Kia Motors India said in a statement.
 The company said it has delivered more than 40,000 Seltos units to its customers since the launch in August 2019.
 It has already received 86,840 bookings till date, the company added.

The company said its Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh) based plant is capable of producing 3 lakh units annually and second shift has been initiated in the facility.
 The automaker is also in the process of expanding its network to more than 300 touch points till the end of March 2020, it added.
 "The company is closely observing the Indian market and has recognised areas like northeast, northern part of Telangana, Karnataka, western Rajasthan, etc. for the said expansion," Kia Motors India said. MSS

Hyderabad, Mar 23 (): Kia Motors India indefinitelysuspended all its operations with immediate effect and thecompany's manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh and companyoffice premises will stop functioning until further notice inview of the coronavirus concerns, the Korean automaker said ina statement on Monday."In view of the unprecedented situation arising out ofthe spread of COVID-19 and keeping in mind the safety andwell-being of all our consumers, employees, workers, partners,and associates pan India, Kia Motors India has decided tosuspend all its operations with immediate effect.With this, company's manufacturing facility inAnantapur (Andhra Pradesh) and company office premises willstop functioning until further notice," it said. Kia said all its dealerships remain on call and areavailable to customers for all their requirements via alldigital channels and it is also ensuring deliveries are notdelayed for eager customers as well as service requirementsare also being attended to, without compromising on strongsafety precautions. Kia Motors India suspends operations amid Covid-19 concerns

New Delhi, Dec 12 () As many as 43.20 lakh farmers from Andhra Pradesh have received funds from the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-Kisan) till November this year, under which the central government gives Rs 6,000 per annum in three equal installments.
 As per the agriculture ministry data, till November this year about 46.86 lakh farmers have been enrolled under the scheme in Andhra Pradesh, out of which the central government has released funds to 43.20 lakh farmers.
 Among districts, the funds were released to about 4.72 lakh farmers in Anantapur, 4.05 lakh in Kurnool, 4 lakh in East Godavari, 3.89 lakh in Guntur, 3.75 lakh in Chittoor, 3.48 lakh in Prakasam, 3.22 lakh in West Godavari and 3.04 lakh in Krishna so far.
 Besides, the funds were released to 2.83 lakh farmers in Visakhapatanam, 2.56 lakh in YSR district, 2.40 lakh in Vizianagaram and 2.28 lakh in Nellore, the data showed.
 The target is to cover 83.82 lakh farmers in Andhra Pradesh under the scheme.
 Under the PM-Kisan scheme, which was launched in February this year, the central government has transferred funds to 7.60 crore beneficiary across the country till November 30. About Rs 35,882.8 crore has so far been disbursed to beneficiaries.
 From December onwards, the Centre has decided to transfer funds under the PM-Kisan to only Aadhaar-authenticated bank accounts of eligible farmers.
 According to the ministry, the release of installments to beneficiary farmers are in various stages of progress. Some farmers have got all three installments, some only two and some only one, depending upon the four-monthly period in which they have been first registered by the concerned state governments.
