Often success comes when expected the least, and a Delhi-NCR based girl Raksha Gopal couldn't contain her happiness when the same happened to her recently. In a bid to curb pollution in the city, the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=delhi+government&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Delhi government</a> led by Chief Minister <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=arvind+kejriwal&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Arvind Kejriwal</a> proposed an <keyword id="3163158" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="odd-even-rule">Odd-even rule</keyword> that restricted private vehicles with odd and even registration numbers to run on alternate days of the week. 
 
The first phase of the Odd-even rule came into effect from January 1 and though it reportedly did manage to lessen the levels of pollution in the capital, it also met with complaints from commuters who had to find other means of transport on days they couldn’t take their cars. 
 At that time, help came in the form of a <keyword id="1068586" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Carpooling">carpooling</keyword> website called <keyword id="3177440" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="odd-even-com">Odd-Even.com</keyword> that was founded by <keyword id="3173575" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Akshat-Mittal">Akshat Mittal</keyword>, a student of Amity International School, Noida that met with instant and unprecedented popularity because of its convenience user-friendly interface. 
 
 
Odd-Even.com promoted the concept of carpooling among commuters on a friendly basis and lets users make a commuter preference in terms of gender and age after they have registered on the website with their name, age, mobile number and vehicle’s registration number. One could either choose a one-way travel or a return trip. 
 So when news broke that Mittal had sold off his website to another <keyword id="3318659" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Carpooling-App">carpooling app</keyword>, that too barely 10 days before the implementation of the second phase of the Odd-even formula, everyone was naturally curious to know what really went behind that deal. 
 And, finally two months after the acquisition, <keyword id="3207165" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Orahi">Orahi</keyword>’s COO and Founder, <keyword id="1151710" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Arun-Bhati">Arun Bhati</keyword> tells Business Insider in a freewheeling chat why acquiring Odd-Even.com in April made absolute sense. 
 
For starters, Bhati tells us that they noticed how the traffic to the site during the first phase of Odd-Even rule was unimaginably high and they assumed that a repeat would occur during the second phase of the Odd-Even rule as well because of the absolute popularity the site enjoyed. 
 
“That’s why we set a plan in process to have talks with Mittal and enter into a partnership with him to acquire Odd-Even.com which would in turn be integrated with Orahi. From a business point of view, this was absolutely the right thing to do,” he added. 
 
Secondly, Odd-Even was successful in attracting the right kind of audience to its site, thinks Bhati. 
 
 
“This is the audience that wants to carpool. It was perfect for us. Thus, when we acquired Odd-Even.com, we also got access to the 30,000 users who had registered on the site allowing us to take our total user base upto 70,000 in no time,” he explained, adding that it also allowed Orahi to cater to a larger audience. 
 
Lastly, from the customer point of view, after the acquisition Orahi would’ve now been in a position to allow greater flexibility to users in terms of increased numbers of carpooling options in every direction possible, said Bhati. 
 
As a part of the partnership, Orahi had also inducted Akshat Mittal on the company’s advisory board as a technical and domain expert, in return providing mentorship to the little genius on the carpooling business. 
 
Since April, the Odd-Even website re-directs users to the Orahi interface. A case of total win-win!

As a result of burgeoning pressure by agitating Amity students in the <keyword id="3577224" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sushant-Rohilla">Sushant Rohilla</keyword> suicide case for the past week, two teachers directly responsible for the third year law student taking his own life, have reportedly resigned from their positions. 
 BP Sehgal, (Director) and <keyword id="3582437" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="isheeta-rutabhasini">Isheeta Rutabhasini</keyword> who is permanent faculty member, had been sent on forced leave three days ago as hundreds of students gathered outside the Noida college campus to protest what they called deliberate harassment and torture by authorities on Rohilla for no fault of his. 
 
Here's how the case had unfolded so far: 
 
1) Rohilla was found hanging in his room at his residence in Sarojini Nagar on August 10. He was shattered after he learned that he would not be allowed to take his sixth semester exams due to low attendance. In his suicide note, he reportedly wrote he was a failure and did not wish to live. His mother, a teacher, walked in after coming back from school at 2.30pm to find Sushant hanging from the ceiling fan and a suicide note, which said he was sorry to have failed them and for not being a good brother and a son. 
 
2) His friends and family alleged Sushant had suffered a foot injury because of which he was unable to attend classes for at least two weeks. He had missed many classes before, they said, because he was busy representing college at various events and even organising event for the college for which he should have been given attendance. 
 3) Meanwhile, as the issue snowballed, <keyword id="558171" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amity-Law-School">Amity Law School</keyword> claimed in a statement that Sushant had 43 per cent attendance and this had been “conveyed to his parents many times through mail. Since the institute is affiliated to the Guru Gobind Singh IP University, the attendance, as per the rules of IP University, was sent to IP, which has the sole discretion to issue admit cards… for sitting in examinations.” It added, “Amity Law School itself had absolutely no role”. The authorities also alleged they did not hear back from Rohilla or his parents despite intimating the, repeatedly. 
 
4) Sushant’s family, however, maintained that no warning or notices were sent to them about his attendance. They said he informed the family about his detention and they got to know about it only when two representatives of IP University visited them on August 11 to pay condolences. They alleged the officials claimed he was irregular to college and was not good in studies. His uncle <a href="https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1275149145851178&amp;set=pcb.1275149189184507&amp;type=3">Dinesh Rohilla </a>and sister <a href="https://www.facebook.com/mehak.rohilla/posts/10157404119970093">Mehak Rohilla then shared an email </a>to counter university’s claims, which showed Rohilla wrote to the college requesting them to not debar him from semester examinations due to shortage of attendance. The same day his father <keyword id="123365" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jagdish-Kumar">Jagdish Kumar</keyword>, a joint secretary in Rajya Sabha, blamed college officials for his son’s suicide. “His act of suicide was provoked by some officials of the Institute over trivial but illegal arbitrary issues. No student should ever be tortured over attendance. I will get my son justice,” <a href="https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1268949276449930&amp;set=a.637407956270735.1073741827.100000046096283&amp;type=3&amp;theater">he wrote on Facebook</a>. 
 
5) Jagdish and Rohilla’s friends, contrary to the university’s claims that he was not a good student and was given grace marks, also posted his <a href="https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1271988246146033&amp;set=a.637407956270735.1073741827.100000046096283&amp;type=3&amp;theater">meritorious achievements </a>and the <a href="https://twitter.com/TChikker/status/766533537063284737">laurels he brought to Amity</a> which were never considered by the college. 
 
6) Meanwhile, Rohilla's suicide had already <a href="https://twitter.com/TChikker/status/766534455804571648">triggered protests</a> after August 10 outside the University and on social media. In no time, hashtag <a href="https://www.facebook.com/events/599603496888840/">#JusticeForSushant</a> started trending. Students refused to attend any classes in the absence of disciplinary action against the culprits. They <a href="https://twitter.com/TChikker/status/766533537063284737">demanded resignation</a> of the two teachers - BP Sehgal and Isheeta Rutabhasini. 
 7) The two faculty members of the law school, who the students accuse of ignoring Rohilla's pleas, were then sent on forced leave soon after. <keyword id="6375590" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="amity-university">Amity University</keyword> claimed it had set up a six member commission for inquiry and both the accused could not return to office till the probe was over. 
 
8) The family members of Sushant Rohilla, meanwhile, lodged a police complaint on Wednesday demanding an investigation into abetment to suicide charges against the accused. 
 
9) Students, meanwhile, came out with a <a href="https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1079595798797163&amp;set=pcb.1079596108797132&amp;type=3&amp;theater">16-page document titled ‘Bundle of Lies’ </a>to expose Universities ‘false statements’. The document page-by-page deals with all the claims of the University and why they are false and misleading. 
 
10) As protests intensified with alumni joining in, both teachers accused in the case, have now resigned. Agitating students today <a href="https://twitter.com/Chaitali_1810/status/766567956688039936">congratulated each other</a> on their win and warded off unwanted politicization attempt as <a href="https://twitter.com/Chaitali_1810/status/766525571505360896">ABVP workers tried to hijack their efforts </a>by joining the protest.

The suicide case that is rocking Amity - One of India's 'Leading' Universities

The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to develop <keyword id="17425" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Allahabad">Allahabad</keyword> as an integrated industrial township like <keyword id="18858" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Noida">Noida</keyword>. It has come up with a proposal to develop Allahabad as an “access-controlled township that will have 4G network and full <keyword id="47655" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Wi-Fi">Wi-Fi</keyword> connectivity with homogeneity of design for all building structures,” an official release said. 
 The Samajwadi Party government led by Chief Minister <keyword id="6355031" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Akhilesh-Yadav">Akhilesh Yadav</keyword> has been promoting its development agenda to win back support after its dismal performance in the Lok Sabha elections. 
 
A presentation on the plan of the new city was made to senior officials from the infrastructure and industrial development department and Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation during a meeting last week. 
 
“Around 25% area of the township would be reserved for industries with dedicated power supply, prepaid electricity meters, provision for 100 per cent water harvesting, zero-discharge mechanism, and CNG supply network,” said Sanjiv Saran, principal secretary, industrial development. 
 
Amity University, Fortis Healthcare and Maruti Suzuki have already expressed interest to invest in the state and the government is considering to allot them land in Allahabad. 
 
“The education department has been asked to prepare a proposal to develop the university in 40 acres of land,” an official statement said.

UP Govt To Develop Allahabad Like Noida

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Ringing+Bells">Ringing Bells</a>, the company that launched '<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Freedom251">Freedom 251</a>', the world's cheapest smartphone at an unbelievable Rs 251 has stopped taking orders for 24 hours due to overload. 
 
The Noida-based company launched the smartphone yesterday. Bookings started today morning at 0600 hrs. 
 
"Dear friends, we are very grateful for your enormous response and your kind patronage and would submit that as of now we received approx. Six Lacs hits per second as a result of your kind overwhelming response, servers are over loaded," <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Freedom251">Freedom251</a> said on its website. 
 
"We humbly submit that we are therefore taking a pause and upgrading the service and will revert within or before 24 hours," it added. 
 The company has been set up five months ago by Amity University graduate <keyword id="3250964" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mohit-Kumar-Goel">Mohit Kumar Goel</keyword>. He launched the Freedom 251 at an event attended by BJP veteran Murli Manohar Joshi.

Ringing Bells stops taking
orders for 24 hrs for Freedom251

<keyword id="6428840" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ringing-Bells">Ringing Bells</keyword>, which is selling world’s cheapest smartphone at Rs 251, claimed it received 30,000 confirmed orders and over six lakh hits before the site crashed on first day of the bookings. 
 
Pre-booking started at 6 am on Thursday and stopped by mid-day after the website crashed due to overwhelming response. 
 
Ringing Bells director Mohit Goel claimed 30,000 orders were booked on the first day. 
 
"We are not hiding anything. The money collected is being kept in an escrow account and the company won't get the funds till the deliveries are done. Orders will be taken for a maximum of 25 lakh phones online and another 25 lakh offline. We are promising 100% deliveries to all 50 lakh bookings by June 30, starting from April," said Goel. 
 
Meanwhile, the telecom ministry is keeping a close watch on the sales of the Noida-based Ringing Bells phone. 
 
"An initial internal assessment of the ministry shows the price of the smartphone can't be less than Rs 2,300 but the government won't step in for now unless there's a proven case of wrongdoing,” ET quoted a person as saying. 
 
Meanwhile, Mohit Goel, who is rolling out the world’s cheapest smartphone, belongs from Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh. 
 
Mohit is the managing director of Ringing Bells and often helped his father at the grocery shop. 
 
Mohit has done engineering from Amity University.
