The direct jobs will be across supply chain -- delivery executives, pickers, packers and sorters -- while there will be additional indirect jobs at Flipkart's seller partner locations and kiranas, the company said in a statement. "We are focused on creating impactful partnerships that offer great consumer experience while creating additional opportunities for progress of the entire ecosystem as it scales for the Big Billion Days (BBD)," said Amitesh Jha, Senior Vice-President, Ekart and Marketplace, Flipkart. Filpkart said that onboarding of more than 50,000 kiranas for the last-mile delivery will also create thousands of seasonal jobs to deliver millions of packages. "By generating employment and enabling our sellers to scale their businesses during this time, we're doing our part to drive growth in the industry and the economy," Jha said. Flipkart is undertaking training programmes for its direct hires in various aspects of the supply chain through a mix of classroom and digital training, enhancing their understanding of supply chain management. The company said it is now enabling customers to get their GSTIN on their invoices, thereby allowing them to claim input tax credit on their purchases. "The capability to allow GSTIN on their invoices will help millions of business entities - to claim input tax credit on their business related purchases, saving up to 28 per cent on their purchases," the ecommerce leader said.

Flipkart said it has significantly expanded its kirana onboarding programme to make deliveries to customers in more than 850 cities. The number of kiranas joining the programme has doubled since last year. "Through a combination of their hyperlocal presence and innovations by Flipkart, this programme has become a great enabler in strengthening the kirana ecosystem in the country," said Amitesh Jha, Senior Vice-President, Ekart and Marketplace, Flipkart. The company aims to provide a personalised e-commerce experience to millions of consumers while creating opportunities for digital upskilling as well as additional income for kiranas. The kirana programme has been expanded to places like Tinsukia (Assam), Agartala (Tripura) and Kannur (Kerala), connecting kiranas and consumers to the country's fast growing digital commerce. To help kiranas onboard and be active participants in the festive season, Flipkart's team initiated contactless onboarding of kiranas through online application forms where kirana partners directly uploaded details along with required documentation. The team organised digital training on various tools including app-based dashboards and digital payments, helping kiranas transform their business from traditional general trade stores to modern convenience stores. Flipkart said it has made temperature screening using infra-red thermometers mandatory for all employees, vendors and visitors. Persons with suspected flu symptoms are advised to return home. "For our supply chain and logistics network, we have organised more than 3,000 awareness sessions covering over 100k employees across all our facilities on how our employees and partners can minimize their exposure by following simple precautionary measures," Amitesh Jha, Senior Vice President - eKart &amp; Marketplace at Flipkart, said in a blog post on Wednesday. The delivery executives of the e-commerce major are covered with both life and medical insurance, Jha informed. Online retail giant Amazon this week announced that it plans to hire 1 lakh employees in the US in its fulfilment centres and delivery network as more and more people are relying on online deliveries for their daily needs due to the coronavirus pandemic. Flipkart also said that it has seen "overwhelming demand for essential products". "We appreciate the dedication and customer-first approach of our supply chain executives, wishmasters and delivery partners during this challenging time. They have reiterated their commitment to serving customers and overcoming many challenges to meet the overwhelming demand for essential products," Jha said. "The onus is on e-commerce to rise to the demands of the occasion, and we are sparing no effort to ensure that we meet our customers' needs," he said, adding that Flipkart is taking all preventive measures as advised by the World Health Organization. Seeking cooperation from customers in fighting the spread of coronavirus in India, Flipkart requested them to use digital payment gateways for all cash-on-delivery shipments. Flipkart said it is working on making additional delivery options such as contactless delivery available to customers in select locations. "Customers also have the option of requesting the delivery partner to leave their packages at the security booth of their residential complexes in line with their complex's guidelines (in case of online payments)," Jha said.

New Delhi, Jan 14 () Walmart-owned Flipkart on Tuesday said it is strengthening its supply chain infrastructure by setting up two warehouses (fulfilment centres or FCs) in Haryana, a move that will create about 5,000 jobs locally.
 "Spread across 9 lakh square feet, the FCs will help Flipkart significantly scale up its supply chain infrastructure in North India. The FCs will enhance the company's ability to support the delivery and supply chain logistics of a wide selection of large and non-large products (including furniture and large appliances)...," a statement said.
 The facilities will also amplify Flipkart's capabilities to cater to more consumers in the country, it added.
 Unlike traditional warehouses, fulfilment centres are equipped with highly automated pick, pack and shipping processes to facilitate safe and timely processing of orders.
 With these two FCs, Flipkart now has 12 assets in Haryana, including supply chain infrastructure for large appliances, non-large (including mobiles, apparel), grocery and furniture, taking the total asset capacity in the state to over 20 lakh sq ft.
 These assets are spread across various regions in the state including Binola, Bilaspur, Luhari and Ballabgarh.
 During the last festive season, Flipkart's FCs in Haryana served up to 40 per cent of the total number of orders from across India, the statement noted.
 "Flipkart's new investment in the state will create over 5,000 jobs, which will also include employment opportunities for women and people with different abilities. The company currently employs more than 10,000 people in Haryana across its supply chain and has created thousands of indirect jobs in the state," it added.
 It has also partnered with the National Skill Development Corporation's Logistics Skill Sector Council to provide training on nuances of supply chain and delivery to ensure skill development, career progression and growth for its employees.
 "Today we have one of the strongest supply chain networks in the country, making over 40 million deliveries every month and employ more than 120,000 people across the country," Flipkart Senior Vice President Amitesh Jha said.
 He added that the the addition of these two facilities will further strengthen Flipkart's supply chain and building capabilities to enable a strong ecosystem for MSMEs, local manufacturers and in the process create quality local jobs. SR RVK
