Bollywood actors Amitabh Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra, who became the faces of <keyword id="2517872" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Swachh-Bharat-Abhiyan">Swachh Bharat Abhiyan</keyword> might feature in its upcoming campaign as the government tries to impart new energy into Modi cabinet’s mission for national cleanliness. 
 
Reportedly, the government has reached out to the actors for featuring in radio advertisements on Reliance Group Chairman Anil Ambani's radio channels, and for their participation in a short promotional film which would soon be produced to raise awareness about the mission. 
 
"Bachchan and Chopra have assured their time for any promo film we make, for free," a senior official told ET on the condition of anonymity. "Brand ambassador Sachin Tendulkar last year lent his voice to a Swachh Bharat video anthem," he added. 
 
Once Ambani gives his consent for government’s proposal to run subsidised, if not free, advertisements on BIG FM, the Swachh Bharat team will start working with the Reliance Group for a communications campaign. 
 
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched by PM Narendra Modi on October 2, 2014, and aims for nation cleanliness by 2019.

They have recently onboarded <keyword id="6357912" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="amitabh-bachchan" source="Orion">Amitabh Bachchan</keyword> as its brand ambassador to get visibility and become a trusted platform in the minds of its consumers.</li><li>We speak to <keyword id="8305289" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ramalingam-subramanian" source="Orion">Ramalingam Subramanian</keyword>, Head of Brand, Marketing and Communications at CoinDCX who tells us all about its association with Bachchan, and how it is going about building a strong, safe platform and educating people about the segment.</li></ul>Cryptocurrency exchange platform CoinDCX hit the headlines this year after it became India’s first crypto unicorn a few months back. In the last one year, we have seen the platform do a lot to raise awareness about cryptocurrency and to give its efforts to increase visibility and win the consumer’s trust, the platform onboarded Amitabh Bachchan recently as it face. CoinDCX has also been working on making the ecosystem more inclusive. It recently launched a specially designed learning module on <keyword id="6355684" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="blockchain" source="Orion">blockchain</keyword> and cryptocurrency for the hearing-impaired community. Earlier, it had also announced that its become the first crypto player to join the Advertising Standards Council of India (<keyword id="169284" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="asci" source="Orion">ASCI</keyword>) to actively support the advancement of advertising standards within India’s cryptocurrency and digital asset industry, to promote transparency in communications and building public confidence in the space. And getting Bachchan on board is another step in that direction. To understand how this partnership will help CoinDCX get more visibility and what marketing plans it has for the future, we spoke to Ramalingam Subramanian, Head of Brand, Marketing and Communications at CoinDCX. Getting Amitabh Bachchan on board as the face of CoinDCX Amitabh Bachchan is a crypto investor himself and had launched his own NFTs in September. Right now, the task at hand for CoinDCX and other players in the segment is to win the confidence of people, raise awareness and educate, while convincing them that it is safe to invest on crypto. “Since we started, our aim has been to make crypto more accessible in India and the way to do that is to educate and acquire. We unanimously decided to get Amitabh Bachchan on board because we have seen him create awareness innumerable times in the past, be it with government campaigns like polio or Swachh Bharat. We have also seen him create magic on the brand side, for example when Cadbury wanted to revive its itself, it brought Mr Bachchan on board. From a crypto perspective, we thought he would be the right person to create the necessary awareness around the category. Our aim is to help people get rid of some of their preconceived notions about the category and we felt Mr Bachchan would be perfect to help us communicate that,” shared Subramanian. He also maintained that the partnership isn’t just a marketing campaign-led decision and will involve in some last-mile educating about the category by Bachchan along with the campaigns. “Mr Bachchan’s association with us will definitely impact the awareness and adoption quotient and his knowledge will also help us understand the larger market better and reach out to people in the right manner. Our aim so far has been to raise awareness and with him on board now, we will be able to amplify our message much better,” he added. The growth story so far The segment is still at a nascent stage in India and while there has been an increase in people’s interest in the segment, there still needs to be a lot of educating required. Moreover, a lot of people are still unsure about the safety of investing on cryptocurrency. However, CoinDCX has witnessed good growth in the past year and there is a visible appetite for the currency as people are reading up more and are looking at the segment as a way of diversifying their investments. “While there have been challenges on our way, our journey so far has taught us resilience. We are confident that whatever challenges and minor confusions come our way, once there is more understanding and awareness, we will all be in a better place,” he said. Subramanian shared that in the last one year, the platform has witnessed good growth and the growth has come from all segments, traditional investors along with a growth of people from Tier II and III cities. “Along with people from smaller cities, we are also seeing more and more women actively invest. It an un-learning issue and people who are more receptive to newer ideas seems to be the ones coming in much better. We are seeing people come in, diversify and hold on to it, they are trying to understand the investment building strategies, and this is across segments, which is a very positive sign that people are buying into the concept of blockchain and crypto,” Subramanian said. On what actual growth they have seen on the platform in terms of user base, he said, “Over the last six months, we crossed a total registered user base of 4 million, and these are not just installs but registered users. We wanted to build the right product and structure before we went mass. When we launched a new product in January, we did a fair amount of testing and checks in the first few months but from April, we started going heavy and a lot out of the 4 million users came in between April and today.” The future While it is still a new segment, CoinDCX is trying to educate more and more people about the space in an attempt to raise awareness. It also joined ASCI to understand how to be ethical in terms of its advertising. “Working with ASI would mean we will be able to understand the finer details of what we are doing right and where we’re going wrong. This will improve the overall quality of our communication. Being a member of ASCI also means we are putting ourselves under some form of regulation and we're open to that because their values and vision is very closely aligned with us. Hopefully in the years to come, we'll be able to also worked with them to create specific regulations for advertising in this space,” he explained. On what his vision for the platform is, he said, “We generally joke around in office that just like today everyone has a payment app, they should have a crypto investment app, one that has been created by us. That’s our focus for India. When we look at crypto adoption across the world, we truly believe that this industry can contribute to the $5 trillion goal set by our Prime Minister and we could definitely look at financial exports. As a nation, in the first wave of the internet revolution, we were just the consumers. We did not contribute in building it. The second wave was largely built by us but with capital from the Western world. This is a time when we have both the knowledge and the capital. We have started doing that in smaller space phases, especially in the <keyword id="2461546" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fintech" source="Orion">FinTech</keyword> space. Crypto and blockchain is another space where India will be able to make its mark and contribute globally. Our larger vision is to help build that ecosystem. Like we have platforms like Facebook and Twitter coming out of the US, we can have these crypto blockchain companies, which we truly believe is the next big thing after the internet, coming from India,” he concluded.

The government has managed to collect a total of Rs 329.6 crore within a month from the 0.5 per cent <keyword id="2692614" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Swachh-Bharat-cess">Swachh Bharat cess</keyword> imposed on all <keyword id="640715" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="taxable-services">taxable services</keyword>. "The provisional figures of Swachh Bharat cess collected till December 16, 2015, is about Rs 329.6 crore," MoS Finance Jayant Sinha said in a written reply to the <keyword id="48510" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rajya-Sabha">Rajya Sabha</keyword>. 

	The government had imposed the cess with effect from November 15 to fund Swachh Bharat programme. 
 

	Between November 15 and March 31, 2016, the revenue estimated to be collected is about Rs 3,750 crore, Sinha said. 
 

	The minister added that the proceeds collected through the cess would be allocated to the state governments to fund Swachh Bharat initiatives. 
 

	The amount estimated to be collected from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Swachh+Bharat">Swachh Bharat</a> cess on all taxable services which are not exempt or in negative list in a full financial year is about Rs 10,000 crore. 
 

	Revenue for the next financial year has not been estimated so far, he said. 
 With the Swachh Bharat cess, the <keyword id="118144" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Service-tax-rate">Service Tax rate</keyword> has gone up to 14.5 per cent from 14 per cent.

Swachh Bharat cess garners Rs 329 crore in a month!

<keyword id="6354814" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="prime-minister-Narendra-Modi">Prime Minister Narendra Modi</keyword> did not forget the tasks he had assigned to different departments. 
 In January this year, Modi had set up eight groups of secretaries for concentrated attention on areas such as <keyword id="6439829" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Good-Governance">good governance</keyword>, inclusive growth, employment generation, education and health, Swachh Bharat and energy efficiency. 
 
He had asked the bureaucrats to "get cracking" and deliver results. 
 
Now, it is review time for all the departments and Modi will assess whether the departments brought about a transformative change and changed lives of people. 
 NITI Aayog CEO <keyword id="6358887" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amitabh-Kant">Amitabh Kant</keyword> will make a detailed presentation to Modi in the presence of all council of ministers of the cabinet at a comprehensive review meeting on Friday. 
 
"Group of secretaries had suggested transformative ideas to PM to push economic growth in the country. Following this, NITI had set action plans for all departments and have been monitoring progress on each of them," a senior NITI Aayog official told ET. 
 
“Friday's presentation to Modi is on the progress by each department on these action plans and inter-ministerial hurdles, if any, in implementing these,” the person added. 
 
Meanwhile, Modi will review departments based on good governance, employment generation, farmer-centric initiatives, education and health, etc.

Modi to review action plan of departments and assess whether they delivered ‘cracking’ results

As the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Indian+government" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">Indian government</a> is all set to levy its <keyword id="2692614" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Swachh-Bharat-cess">Swachh Bharat cess</keyword>, the Indian Inc says it is not ready for it yet. 
 
The government, in its <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=union+budget" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">Union Budget</a>, had announced that a cess of up to 2% would be levied to fund <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=prime+minister+narendra+modi" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">PM Narendra </a><a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=prime+minister+narendra+modi" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">Modi</a>’s pet campaign ‘<keyword id="2517872" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Swachh-Bharat-Abhiyan">Swachh Bharat Abhiyan</keyword>’. 
 
The 0.5% cess on all taxable services was notified by the Centre. 
 
"It may be seen that all issues relating to Swachh Bharat cess are addressed in the service tax provisions itself by virtue of the applicability of Chapter V of the Finance Act, 1994, and the rules made thereunder," the finance ministry stated. 
 But, the Indian industry says this is against the PM’s claims of <keyword id="6354423" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ease-of-Doing-Business">ease of doing business</keyword> in India and also sought clarity on certain issues. 
 
Also, the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ficci" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce &amp; Industry</a> (<keyword id="6355001" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="FICCI">FICCI</keyword>) said the eight day's notice was too short and that the cess should be implemented from January. 
Experts in India Inc say that changing billing system in the middle of the month, especially in festive season, will prove to be difficult. 
 
The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=cii" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">Confederation of Indian Industry</a> (CII) also asked if the cess would be creditable. 
 Meanwhile, India Inc said the cess should have been levied in line with the Goods &amp; Services Tax (<keyword id="6354679" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="GST">GST</keyword>). 
 
Even telecom operators voiced the same concern and asked for a delay. 
 
“There is no clarity whether credit of Swachh Bharat would be available as in the case of service tax. In case the credit is not available, the net incidence of the cess would be higher than 0.5% on services on account of cascading. Similarly, the cess would also impact the price of goods as there would be an incidence of cess on input services,” Bipin Sapra, partner, EY, told ET. 
 
Also, the value and rate is unclear, what the effective rate of tax would be for services that are taxable at an abated rate. 
 
The finance ministry explained that the taxable value for the levy of Swachh Bharat cess would be the same on which service tax is levied. 
 
“The cess would be calculated on abated value or value arrived at under service tax. On the issue of point of taxation, the statement said norms laid down in Rule 5 would apply. Therefore, in case where payment has been received and invoice is raised before the service becomes taxable, i.e., prior to November 15, 2015, there is no liability of Swachh Bharat cess,” stated the finance ministry.

India Inc wants deferment in Swachh Bharat cess, says it will affect ease of doing business

Providing relief to SEZ units and developers, the <keyword id="47209" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Finance-Ministry">Finance Ministry</keyword> today said they will be entitled to refund of the Swachh Bharat cess, a levy imposed by the government from November last year to fund its cleanliness drive. 

	"The SEZ Unit or the Developer shall be entitled to refund of the Swachh Bharat Cess paid on the specified services on which ab-initio exemption is admissible but not claimed," the Central Board of Excise and Customs said in a notification.
 

	It has also specified a formula for calculating refund due to SEZ units and developers. 
 Government had imposed 0.5 per cent Swachh Bharat cess on taxable services from November 15, 2015. With the imposition of the cess, <keyword id="6355686" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Service-tax">service tax</keyword> rate has gone up from 14 per cent to 14.5 per cent. The cess is levied only on the portion of taxable services (after abatement) and will go towards <keyword id="6357455" type="EVENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Funding">funding</keyword> of the Swachh Bharat scheme, a pet project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The concessions provided to the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) is expected to generate some interest of investors in them. Investors have been losing interest in these zones for various reasons including global economic slowdown, imposition of minimum alternate tax (MAT) and dividend distribution tax ( <keyword id="375780" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="DDT">DDT</keyword>). 

	Many business houses have surrendered SEZs while the government on its part has given more time to some developers to execute the projects.

Finance Ministry to refund Swachh Bharat cess paid by SEZs

At a time when people have started questioning government’s expenditure in advertisements, the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=modi">Narendra Modi</a> government is all set to initiate a massive advertisement campaign in print media and on radio and television glorifying the anniversary of the ‘<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/topic/Swachh-Bharat-Abhiyan">Swachh</a><a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/topic/Swachh-Bharat-Abhiyan"> Bharat Mission’</a>. 
 
On October 2, Prime Minister Modi’s pet project of cleanliness completes a year. To commemorate the success, Modi’s ministers have received plan blueprint from the PM himself. 
 
Modi has formed a team of ministers to plan a 17-day anniversary celebration between September 25 and October 11. The team includes Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, Road Transport Minister <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Nitin+Gadkari">Nitin Gadkari</a>, Drinking Water and Sanitation Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh and Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore. 
 
Apart from advertisements, there would be appraising performance of all the states and printing the achievements in booklets. The chief ministers of the states would also be roped in and encouraged to conduct walkathons with the high-profile Swachh Bharat ambassadors. The states have also been asked to rope in governors to administer the "Swachhta pledge" to government officials to keep their surroundings clean. 
 
The government will also honour NGOs and volunteers who have contributed in the cleanliness programme. Swachh Bharat ambassadors would also visit households where toilets have been built under the scheme. 
 
 A senior government official told The Economic Times, "We plan to organise events in states and in the capital with Swachh Bharat Abhiyan brand ambassadors like Baba Ramdev, actor Kamal Hassan and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.”

<keyword id="6696781" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Urban-development-ministry">Urban Development Ministry</keyword> today announced it would launch a mobile App for citizens to post their complaints about <keyword id="56059" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Garbage">garbage</keyword> pile-up in their areas and seek timely redress of their grievance. Named '<keyword id="3232838" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Swachh-City-Solutions">Swachh City Solutions</keyword>', the proposed mobile and web-based application will be developed in partnership with an NGO 'Janaagraha' Centre for Citizenship and Democracy, to ensure timely and effective implementation of the <keyword id="2312336" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Swachh-Bharat-Mission">Swachh Bharat Mission</keyword> objectives in 4041 statutory towns in the country. 

	A Memorandum of Understanding to the effect was signed today between the Ministry and the NGO 'Janaagraha' here. 
 

	The application is likely to become operational by April and will give citizens access to the latest technology to lodge their complaint and actively participate in keeping their cities clean. 
 

	Speaking on the occasion, UD Ministry Joint Secretary Praveen Prakash said, "Through this App, the government is providing the citizens with a platform to express their concerns regarding their areas and build community participation and consensus towards maintaining the cleanliness in their cities." 
 

	Prakash, who is also the Mission Director for Swachh Bharat said "The App will also enable municipal officials/field engineers to see each complaint and update the status of the resolution along with photos, hence building accountability in the system by ensuring timely grievance redressal." 
 

	Citizens will have features that will allow them to view complaints posted nearby, and show support by 'Voting up' on various complaints. 
 The App, in addition to enabling the creation of a community around complaints, leading to community participation and faster complaint resolution, will also enable the Ministry to rate and rank the 4041 <keyword id="6374279" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Urban-local-bodies">urban local bodies</keyword> (ULBs) in India, based on their efficiency of redressing citizen grievances. (Eds: Adding told quote of Maha Health Min Rajesh Tope) Mumbai, Jul 12 () A day after Amitabh Bachchan and son Abhishek Bachchan were diagnosed with COVID-19, the megastar's daughter-in-law, actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and granddaughter Aaradhya Bachchan have also tested positive for the virus. Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Sunday said that Aishwarya, 46, and her eight-year-old daughter Aaradhya had tested positive but are asymptomatic, while the screen icon's wife, veteran actor-MP Jaya Bachchan's diagnosis was "negative". "Aishwarya ji and Aaradhya have tested positive. They are asymptomatic. They can be quarantined at home or get admitted to hospital. This is family's decision completely," Tope told . "Jaya ji has tested negative. Swab test of the staff has been taken, the reports are awaited," he added. The minister had also shared Aishwarya and Aaradhya's diagnosis on Twitter, but soon deleted his tweet. Earlier on Sunday, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar said the Bachchan residence is now a containment zone and all residents have been quarantined for 14 days. Members of the Bachchan family took the rapid antigen detection test, she added. Amitabh and Abhishek revealed their diagnosis on Twitter on Saturday, saying they were in the isolation ward of the Nanavati Hospital. "I have tested COVID positive. Shifted to hospital. Hospital informing authorities, family and staff undergone tests, results awaited," Amitabh, 77, tweeted. Minutes later, Abhishek, 44, wrote on social media that both of them had mild symptoms and requested everybody to be calm. On Sunday, Dr Abdul Samad Ansari, director of Critical Care Services at the hospital, said the father-son duo were "feeling better" and their condition was stable. "Both Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek are comfortable and feeling better. General blood chemistries are acceptable with stable vitals. Both slept well and had their breakfasts. They are stable," Ansari told . Earlier in the day, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) visited Bachchan's bungalows - Janak, Jalsa and Pratiksha for sanitisation and contact tracing. "A team from BMC is present at Amitabh Bachchan's bungalows - Janak, Jalsa and Pratiksha for sanitising the bungalow and contact tracing," a BMC source told . Security was also stepped up outside Bachchan's two bungalows in Juhu and outside the Nanavati Hospital. As per BMC, the coronavirus case tally in Mumbai rose to 91,457 on Saturday. Amitabh and Abhishek revealed their diagnosis on Twitter on Saturday, saying they were in the isolation ward of the Nanavati Hospital.
