<ul><li>A single cricket match in India generates, on an average, about 3-4.5 tons of waste, particularly the plastic kind.</li><li>Acting secretary of the <keyword id="81008" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Board-of-Control-for-Cricket-in-India">Board of Control for Cricket in India</keyword> (BCCI), <keyword id="91553" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amitabh-Choudhary">Amitabh Choudhary</keyword>, and Erik Solheim, Executive Director of <keyword id="2377340" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="UN-Environment">UN Environment</keyword> signed a letter of intent on Sunday to promote ‘green’ cricket in India. </li><li>The idea is to try and encourage the spectators to avoid using single-use plastic bottles and cups and eventually phase it out completely.</li></ul>The fact that India is a cricket-crazy nation is no secret, but a single cricket match in India generates, on an average, <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/ipl/top-stories/un-bcci-bat-for-zero-waste-green-cricket/articleshow/64005734.cms">about 3-4.5 tons of waste</a>, particularly the plastic kind. And that is a matter of grave concern. However, taking cognisance of this environmental problem, acting secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Amitabh Choudhary, and Erik Solheim, Executive Director of UN Environment <a href="http://indianexpress.com/article/sports/cricket/bcci-goes-green-by-joining-hands-with-un-5193402/">signed a letter of intent</a> on Sunday to promote ‘green’ cricket in India. The idea is to try and encourage the spectators to avoid using single-use plastic bottles and cups during the matches and eventually phase out the use of these items in cricket stadiums across India altogether. “The partnership aims to spread greater awareness about key environmental challenges facing the country, and highlight alternate and more sustainable solutions. The BCCI will endeavour to reduce its environmental impact by greening operations and engaging cricketers and fans in green initiatives,” said the BCCI in a statement. BCCI in collaboration with other key players in the <keyword id="6354831" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-premier-league">Indian Premier League</keyword> (<keyword id="6354312" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword>) has already boosted their efforts to nudge spectators to avoid using plastic. In fact, during the IPL a video featuring the captains of the cricket teams was played out educating the spectators of harmful effects of plastic pollution. And a Green Protocol based on the 3Rs concept – reduce, reuse and recycle – was implemented during the four IPL matches played at the <keyword id="6455883" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="holkar-stadium">Holkar Stadium</keyword> in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. At the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru, the <keyword id="5397" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karnataka-State-Cricket-Association">Karnataka State Cricket Association</keyword> provided environment-friendly alternatives to plastic cups and bottles for over 32,000 fans. Also, waste management firms, municipalities and non-profit organisations for the first time ever assessed the amount of plastic waste generated during the recent IPL matches and actively implemented a plan to segregate waste. Of these, Hasiru Dala Innovations, a Bengaluru-based waste management services company responsible for handling the waste generated by select food stands at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, reported a staggering approximate of seven tons of garbage being generated during 10 IPL matches held in May. And this was despite efforts being implemented to “reduce waste generation and maximize waste segregation at the stadium,” Shekar Prabhakar, managing director and founder of Hasiru Dala Innovations, told <a href="https://news.cgtn.com/news/3d3d774e31517a4e77457a6333566d54/share_p.html">CGTN</a>.

India’s cricket control board wants stadiums to “go green”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the main cricket governing body in India has announced the squad for the upcoming World Cup 2019. Rishabh Pant and Ambati rayudu have not managed to make it to the 15-member squad. Vijay Shankar has been named as the second all-rounder in the squad along with Hardik Pandeya. Seven players who were there in the 2015 world cup squad have managed to make it to the 2019 team. Prithvi Shaw has also missed the spot despite promising performance in the home season earlier this year. India has included only three full-time fast bowlers in the squad. Two-full time spinners, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have been included in the playing 11. The BCCI in its press conference said that they have picket up the most balanced team for the upcoming world cup. The decision to select the 15-member squad is made following a BCCI meeting led by MSK Prasad, chief coach Ravi Shastri and captain Virat Kohli. The decision has been made public in a press conference by BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary in Mumbai. The Cricket World Cup will be held in England and Wales from May 30-July 14. Australia won the Cricket World Cup 2015 against New Zealand by 7 wickets. ICC World Cup 2019: Indian team announced

The <keyword id="4121823" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="committee-of-administrators">Committee of Administrators</keyword> (CoA) today formed a four-member panel, which includes acting Board President C K Khanna and CEO <keyword id="281749" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rahul-Johri">Rahul Johri</keyword>, to decide on the remuneration of newly-appointed head coach <keyword id="19692" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ravi-Shastri">Ravi Shastri</keyword> and other members of the support staff, according to a PTI news report. CoA member Diana Edulji and <keyword id="6354756" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BCCI">BCCI</keyword> acting Secretary Amitabh Choudhary are the other members of the Committee which will meon July 19. This was decided after a CoA meeting today. The three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) had named Shastri as head coach while <keyword id="2727" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rahul-Dravid">Rahul Dravid</keyword> and <keyword id="12644" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zaheer-Khan">Zaheer Khan</keyword> were appointed batting and bowling consultants respectively for specific overseas tours. The new committee will reach out to CoA with its recommendations on July 22. Since the Indian cricket team is leaving for a tour of <keyword id="6355572" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sri-Lanka">Sri Lanka</keyword> on July 19, it is not clear if Zaheer and Dravid will travel with the team. India will play the first Test against Sri Lanka on July 26.

Hawaizaada managed to collect a mere 57 lakh on the first Friday. It is a biopic based on Indian scientist Shivkar Bapuji Talpade and tells his tale, which is: how he built the first unmanned plane that unfortunately crashed even before it took off! Even the star cast of Ayushmann Khurana, Pallavi Sharda and <keyword id="14672" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mithun-Chakraborty">Mithun Chakraborty</keyword> couldn’t pull more audiences to theatres. The collections for the weekend stand at a mere Rs 2 crore. 
 
On the other hand, Khamoshiyan managed a decent opening at the box office and garnered collections to the tunes of Rs 7 crore over the weekend. This movie has been made on a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khamoshiyan">budget of Rs 15 crore</a> and is expected to recover its cost by the end of this week. We feel Khamoshiyan owes its success to the tried and tested Horrex (horror +Sex) formula. It is produced under the <keyword id="359695" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vishesh-Films">Vishesh Films</keyword> banner, which has been associated with plenty of Horrex movies, including the Raaz series. Also, this horrex movie marks the debut of Gurmeet Choudhary in <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword>, who is sharing screen space with Ali Fazal and <keyword id="1595362" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sapna-Pabbi">Sapna Pabbi</keyword>. 
 
The last week’s release Baby continues to go strong. The movie has managed to collect Rs 76.47 crore till Sunday (Feb 1, 2015). 
 
Now, we are eagerly looking forward to Shamitabh, which stars Amitabh Bachchan and <keyword id="6358373" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="dhanush">Dhanush</keyword>. The movie is directed by R Balki and looks a little hatke from other commercial ventures. We do hope that this Amitabh Bachchan starter will get off to a flying start.
