Startups are unaffected by getting banned and are recruiting top talent at IIT placements this year. Regardless of the fact that many of the startups are being blacklisted by the institutes, many international companies that have just started in India are providing the students great offers and some big recruiters' individual hiring numbers. 
 Many like <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> and <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> are amongst the blacklisted ones, their rival likes <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword> and <keyword id="6357120" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PayTM">Paytm</keyword> are hiring aggressively at several <keyword id="6386086" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Institutes-of-Technology">Indian Institutes of Technology</keyword>, and commanding premium slots in placements along with the likes of logistics startup <keyword id="3932850" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="rivigo-services">Rivigo Services</keyword> and enterprise software developer CodeNation. 
 Amazon is planning to visit 17 <keyword id="49737" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IITs">IITs</keyword> this year and is looking forward to hiring more engineers than last year. It is making its first Jodhpur, Indore and Bhubaneswar IITs. 
 "We firmly believe that as we expand and grow in the country, talented engineers from these institutes will play an instrumental role in driving Amazon's growth in India. We continue to be aggressive in our hiring outlook as we scale up our operations in India,” <keyword id="662878" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Raj-Raghavan">Raj Raghavan</keyword>, HR director for APAC at Amazon, told ET. 
 
Paytm, after being benefited by the government’s demonetisation scheme, is now looking forward to increasing its intake from IITs this year. 
 "Paytm is expanding quickly and we are constantly on the lookout for talent to help us keep the momentum,” <keyword id="214729" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amit-Sinha">Amit Sinha</keyword>, senior VP at Paytm, told ET. 
 
The Noida-based ecommerce and digital payments provider has hired from Guwahati, Roorkee, Madras, Bombay and Varanasi (BHU) IITs this year. Besides these biggies, several smaller startups, too, have joined the rush to attract top talent from the country's premier engineering campuses. 
 
"Startups are far from disappearing from the campus. For us, they hold a good share in the placements this year. Where 55 startups have registered for placements this year, up from 50 last year, and they've already handed out more offers than last year,” NP Padhy, professor-in-charge for training and placement at IIT Roorkee, told ET. 
 
There are many new comers in the placement league and the list includes Smartprix, FlyNava Technologies, Clustr, Hike and Buyhatke. 
 
"There are still many startups coming. While most hire in small numbers, they still find takers, especially among students who have a risk appetite,” a senior person involved in IIT placements, told ET. 
 
The IITs also blacklisted a list of startups over a list of numerous reasons. Despite some startups revoking offers in previous years, several students are still eager to join such firms. 
 "Students are now more aware about the uncertainties associated with startups, and more informed. Many are eager to join them, especially those who want to start something of their own in the future and want to gain the experience,” B Venkatesham, placement-in-charge at <keyword id="922152" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIT-Hyderabad">IIT Hyderabad</keyword>, told ET. 
 
Even in campuses where the number of startup recruiters is less than last year, such firms are among the popular recruiters. IIT Madras has given premium slots to companies such as Amazon, Next Education, CodeNation, Rivigo Services and Paytm in the placement process.

Despite getting blacklisted, startups still rock at IIT placements

Indian eCommerce industry is gearing up to take over the consultancies and consumer goods firms; as the former, also termed as a growth hungry industry, is now focusing on building a second tier of leaders to strengthen its critical operations and grow quicker. 
 As per a report published in Economic Times, the consumer internet startups like <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword>, <keyword id="6357120" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PayTM">Paytm</keyword> and <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> have picked recruits from firms like McKinsey, Unilever and <keyword id="44672" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pepsi">Pepsi</keyword> for roles like finance, marketing, supply chain and business development. 
 Snapdeal, on Thursday, made an announcement that it had hired <keyword id="229048" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amit-Choudhary">Amit Choudhary</keyword> as senior VP finance. Choudhary, a former <keyword id="6361491" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Procter-Gamble">Procter &amp; Gamble</keyword> (P&amp;G) executive had been heading P&amp;G's Asia pet care business across 14 countries including Japan, Greater China and Australia. 
 
Businesses like McKinsey have emerged as beneficial hunting grounds for Indian eCommerce startups, given their need for leaders who have worked across industries and functions and can seamlessly transition between multiple roles. 
 Flipkart, in March this year, hired Saikiran Krishnamurthy as CEO of its commerce division; while mobile commerce biggie Paytm plundered <keyword id="2931547" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nehul-Malhotra">Nehul Malhotra</keyword>, who is responsible for on boarding merchants. 
 <keyword id="214729" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amit-Sinha">Amit Sinha</keyword>, who is heading the human resource segment of Paytm said, "This is a new world and we won't always find people with similar experiences. Instead, we have to find people who have or can build the right skill sets. People we're trying to bring on board are the smartest ones around and they won't take much time to learn." 
 
The consumer Internet companies, apart from the stock options, offer a salary hike of upto 40-50%, informs Anju Roy, partner, digital practice at executive search firm Transearch.

Through this, the employees will get an option to vest in case the company decides to sell-off or IPO. If there is no ‘accelerator vesting’ mentioned, it is a drawback for employees as they can’t sell their stock options in case the company sells out. 
 
"We are offering an increasing number of accelerators for ESOPs for senior level hires in the past six months. Several senior-level candidates are also now demanding it in their contract," HR head of a large online retailer told ET. 
 <keyword id="3175886" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="accelerated-vesting">Accelerated vesting</keyword> is also beneficial when an employee decides to quit a company as he/she does not want to be stuck with the old firm. 
 
“All employees at Paytm with ESOPs are eligible for accelerated vesting in the event of a liquidity event like an IPO. With the rapid valuation hikes that companies like ours have seen, the employees get an opportunity to increase their paper money exponentially/disproportionately,” Amit Sinha, people head, Paytm, told ET.

Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal are attracting top talent by giving out 'accelerators vesting' for ESOPs

<keyword id="6357120" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="PayTM">Paytm</keyword>, the Noida-headquartered digital payments solutions company has made some top-level additions to its payments bank arm, with <keyword id="3363917" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ruchita-Taneja-Aggarwal">Ruchita Taneja Aggarwal</keyword> and <keyword id="3363918" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Priya-Karnik">Priya Karnik</keyword> from Citibank India being hired as head of banking operations and head of product development for banking operations, respectively. 
 
Aggarwal worked as the director of treasury and trade solutions and Singapore head for regional product sales at Citibank, while Karnik was director of treasury and trade solutions, regional implementation. 
 
With these appointments, the payments arm of the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Alibaba-to-enter-in-India-via-Paytm/articleshow/51490871.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">Alibaba-backed</a> company has got its leadership team across FMCG, consultancy, banking and e-commerce businesses before its banking services roll-out in August.

Goldman just named a new crop of partners - here's a list of the bankers that joined one of the most exclusive clubs on Wall Street

Some time back <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=startups">startups</a> were aggressively hiring best talent and were emerging as top recruiters during the placement season, but now the scenario is totally different. 
 
As the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=investors">investors</a> are getting apprehensive about pumping money in startups and asking for business models, this is affecting the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=hiring">hiring</a> plans and placements. 
 
After a high placement season from November to January, startups are not showing up at premier engineering and management schools or are offering lesser salaries. 
 
This time, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=snapdeal">Snapdeal</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ola">Ola</a> were not present for placements. 
 
"Student interest in joining startups is high and the number of offers from these companies made up around 50% of the total offers this year - the highest in three years," TV Devi Prasad, head of placements at the International Institute of Information Technology in Hyderabad told ET, adding "However, some companies have gone back on their commitments." 
 
Such scenes can be seen at Indian School of Business in Hyderabad as Stayzilla, a stay aggregator, delayed the joining of 39 students it had hired to July-August, from April-May, and also reduced the annual package to Rs 20 lakh, excluding stock options. 
 
Still, there are startups like <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=grofers">Grofers</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=paytm">Paytm</a> who have not gone back on their promises on placements hiring. 
 
"We visited more than 80 engineering and management campuses this year across India to offer various profiles at Grofers in design, marketing, operations, sales and technology. We have hired people as and when the need arrived. The minimum salary offered was 6 lakhs per annum, while the highest was 20 lakhs," a spokesperson for Grofers said. 
 "We have hired from campus placements in all tier 1institutes across India this year," said Amit Sinha, vice-president at <keyword id="6357120" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PayTM">Paytm</keyword>.

After showing the big picture, startups have suddenly gone slow on hiring. Here’s why

The <keyword id="112426" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="appraisal">appraisal</keyword> season is finally here! Hopes, happy times and life’s good are in the air. Working with a startup has its own benefits as always! The startups are giving appraisal a whole new dimension. From doubling salary to rewarding foreign trips – the startups are rewarding the best performers like never before. 
 
As per a news report by The Economic Times, besides taking home increments of 40-50% plus, appraisal also includes hefty cash bonuses and ESOPs. 
 
"Sky is the limit for top performers," Amit Sinha, VP-business and people, at Paytm told the Economic Times. It is giving 50%-plus increments for top performers and four-fold increase in bonus payouts. "Ours is a knowledge-based industry where experts add disproportionate value and thus get compensated accordingly," he added. 
 
Established companies, however, are giving out only 18-20% increments this year to top performers, according to recent surveys by firms such as Aon Hewitt. Cash-flush startups are rewarding top performers disproportionately more. 
 At MyRefers, founder and <keyword id="5645" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="CEO">CEO</keyword> Lalit Bhagia told the ET, top performers, especially at the entry level, got mid-year increments of 15-25%. Another round of increments” of between 15-50% depending upon the level and performance " is on the cards. 
 "The salaries and increments are commensurate with the scale of the opportunity these companies are going after," says Sandeep Murthy, partner at <keyword id="6357097" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="venture-capital">venture capital</keyword> firm Lightbox Ventures. 
 
"There is a challenge to find enough of the right qualified talent. In that context, paying these kind of salaries is justified," says Murthy. With such hikes, the gap between salaries offered by fledgling startups and established companies is shrinking. 
 
The news report by the financial daily reads, some 82% of startups are paying above the market median and are also paying above the 75th percentile for mid-level executives, a Hay Group-Canaan Partners study found last year.

As more and more people are looking at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=etailers">e-tailers</a> to shop furniture, groceries, medicine, clothing, etc, these firms are expanding for which they need more manpower.As per a recent Morgan Stanley Research report titled, 'The Next India: Internet – Opening Up New Opportunities', the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=india+internet+market">Indian internet market</a> was valued at only $11 billion in 2013 and is expected to rise to $137 billion by 2020. 
 Meanwhile, <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> is looking to double its present <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=headcount">headcount</a> of 5,000 by fiscal 2016. 
 
"We are hiring from the top engineering colleges, including the IITs and NITs, and MBA graduates are hired from the IIMs and other business schools. Apart from these, we also look at NIFT and NID for recruits for our fashion category," Saurabh Nigam, vice-president of human resources at the Delhi-based firm, told Economic Times. 
 <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword> India is also not behind and is aggressively looking to scale up operations in India. 
 
The online marketplace is hiring across its software development, product and marketing, machine learning, quality assurance, web development, etc. 
 
Raj Raghavan, director-HR, told ET talent should meet the hiring bar irrespective of where they graduate from, as Amazon hires people from IITs, IIMs, ISB and other engineering colleges.

At Paytm, they are looking for someone with 'fire in their belly'. 
 
"We want to hire candidates who can do things differently, who can grow within the organisation, meet constant challenges and prove that they are performance-driven," Amit Sinha - vice president of business and people told ET. 
 <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> is looking for technology and leadership roles. 
 
"An increase in employee base by itself isn't necessarily a large indicator of success. We're more concerned about hiring people who have the ability to innovate, who have the humility to accept that their knowledge isn't absolute and there's so much more to do," chief people officer at the Bengaluru-headquartered firm, Mekin Maheshwari, told ET.

The growing number of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=startups+">startups </a>in India also needs an apt workforce and to ensure selection of the right candidates while hiring, the companies are now taking help of psychometrics. 
 
Companies are now trying to read candidates’ mind and then take a call on whether to select him/her or not. 
 
In India, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=eCommerce+">eCommerce </a>sector is growing by leaps and bounds and experts say that there are around 1.5 lakh jobs coning up by the end of 2016. Simultaneously, experts believe that young startups also face troubles finding the right candidates and end-up firing in hundreds like Housing.com and TinyOwl. 
 
Using such scientific tools like psychometrics to judge the candidate and make the process less cumbersome is no doubt a logical option. Large business groups that have been using the technology for the development of employees have now started using it to filter the right candidates. 
 
Rajeev Dubey, group president, HR at the Mahindra Group says, "We want to test how the person fits into our culture or if he has some dysfunctional traits like low-integrity, aggressive behaviour or insensitivity." 
 While Amit Sinha, vice president (business &amp; people) at <keyword id="436047" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ecommerce">eCommerce</keyword> major <keyword id="6357120" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PayTM">PayTM</keyword> says, "Psychometric evaluations are most definitely a value add while hiring. Based on behavioural analytics we can to some extent predict if a person is likely to commit a fraud and how likely they are to adhere to the compliance and process. Emotional control and customer service orientation are also very important." 
 
Paytm, one of the rapidly growing companies, has announced its plans to hire 1,900 candidates by March 2016. And ever since the firm has received RBI licence for a payment bank in September, Paytm plans to hire 600 more candidates. 
 
On the hiring plans and process, Sinha says, “It is a constant challenge to hire right in little time. We cannot afford to go wrong." The eCommerce company has recently started using psychometric questioning. 
 
Another major firm that is eying rapid growth in the coming time is Practo, a health-based firm, has also started using the psychometric tests apart from its usual hiring process. 
 
Practo co-founder and CEO Shashank ND says, "We believe in hiring people who are a match for our culture and are passionate about our vision." 
 
M&amp;M’s Dubey says that Mahindra Group uses Occupational Personality Que-stionnaire or OPQ32 offered by SHL Harrison Job Suitability Assessment and Firo-B among a host of profiling tests. While Practo's Shashank says that the company uses tests offered by Pune-based psychometrics startup Jombay.
