Amit Shah won the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat with 894624 vote share. Gandhinagar constituency recorded 64.87% voter turnout, nearly one per cent less than in 2014 when BJP patriarch L.K. Advani had won with a margin of 4.82 lakh votes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, LK Advani, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Madhya Pradesh Governor and former chief minister Anandiben Patel were voters from Gandhinagar constituency. Aside from law and order, Shah will push the National Register of Citizens Bill, which proposes to grant citizenship to Hindus, Buddhists, Parsis, Jains, Sikhs and Christians from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan after six years of residence in India, even if they cannot produce the required documents. The amendment bill was passed by the Lok Sabha in January 2018 but could not be introduced in the Rajya Sabha, which means it is now set to lapse. BJP president <keyword id="6355521" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Amit-Shah">Amit Shah</keyword> has said the Narendra Modi-led government and the Indian army will give a "befitting reply" firing from <keyword id="3001" type="COUNTRY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Pakistan">Pakistan</keyword> along the international border in <keyword id="6357972" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jammu">Jammu</keyword> and Kashmir. 
 "Home Minister <keyword id="6355121" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rajnath-Singh">Rajnath Singh</keyword> has clearly said that if Pakistan resorts to firing, we will definitely give a befitting reply to them," Shah said during a rally in Jammu. 
 
Shah also visited two camps set up for the villagers driven out of their homes near the Line of Control due to indiscriminate firing from Pakistan. 
 
"It was Omar Abdullah's duty to meet people displaced due to the Pakistani firing. Why didn't he meet affected people rather than add insult to injury?" Shah said. 
 
Reacting to Shah's attack, Omar Abdullah said, "We can't do anything with cross border shelling. That's something for the government of India to see how they will respond to that. But saying that we are not doing anything for those who are affected would be wrong."

New Delhi, Dec 5 () As onion prices continue to rule high at above Rs 100/kg in most cities, Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday reviewed progress made in the import of key kitchen staple to boost domestic supplies and check spiralling prices.
 Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar were among the ministers who attended the meeting. Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan could not attend the meeting due to health reasons, officials said.
 Cabinet Secretary Rajeev Gauba, Advisor to Prime Minister P K Sinha and Consumer Affairs Secretary Avinash Srivastava were also present in the meeting, the officials added.
 The home minister reviewed the progress made in the decisions taken in the last meeting with respect to facilitating speedy import of onion that would help improve availability and cool prices.
 The consumer affairs secretary, who made a presentation on the onion price situation in the meeting, informed that state-run MMTC has contracted import of over 21,000 tonnes of onion from Egypt and Turkey and the shipments are expected to arrive by mid-January.
 The secretary said that tendering and fumigation norms have been eased to facilitate early arrival of the imported onions. MMTC has been directed to issue two country specifics tenders and one global tender for 5,000 tonnes each, the sources said.
 He also apprised that stock holding limits on retailers and wholesalers have been reduced further to 5 tonnes and 25 tonnes, respectively, to check hoarding. Already, onion exports have been banned and supplies are being improved through buffer stock as well, the sources added.
 Onion prices have been ruling high for past few weeks due to fall in production of the Kharif production due to unseasonal rainfall in the key growing states, including Maharashtra. LUX ACB MR

New Delhi, Feb 1 () Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said the Union Budget 2020-21 will contribute significantly in fulfilling the Modi government's resolve to double the income of farmers and provide unprecedented relief to the taxpayers.
In a series of tweets, Shah also said world-class highways, railways, ports, airports, metros will be built in the country with the allocation of Rs 100 lakh crore.
"In this budget, the Modi government has taken effective steps to rationalise the tax system, boost the basic infrastructure, strengthen the banking system, promote investment and ease of doing business, which will further the Modi government's resolve to make India a five trillion-dollar economy," he said.
Shah said the budget will contribute significantly in fulfilling the Modi government's resolve to double the income of farmers by making provision for irrigation and grain storage to the farmers of the country, as well as a fair price for their produce.
The home minister said the Modi government, through this budget, has provided a major and unprecedented relief in income tax to the taxpayers of every category, particularly the middle class, salaried taxpayers will not only have to reduce tax but will also get relief from simplification of tax system.
"I congratulate the prime minister and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for presenting a budget, which will benefit farmers, poor, salaried middle class and business class," he said.
Shah said in keeping with the pledge of a healthy India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched new hospitals by the public-private partnership (PPP) model to bring 'Ayushman Bharat' scheme to every nook and corner of the country, especially in the Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities and in 112 aspirational districts, where there is no hospital under the scheme.
The home minister said with the allocation of Rs 100 lakh crore for basic infrastructure in the country, world-class highways, railways, ports, airports, metros will be built in the country, which will not only improve the lives of common people but also give a significant boost to economic activities. 
"Taking forward the campaigns like home, electricity, toilets, gas and health facilities to all, I welcome Modi ji's resolve to provide clean drinking water to everyone. The allocation of Rs 3.60 lakh crore in this scheme shows the commitment of Modi ji, which will improve the life and health of common people," he said.
Shah said through 'Kisan Rail' and 'Kisan Udaan Yojana', the farmers will join the national and international markets and their products could be sold at a better price at the right time without damage. This scheme will especially benefit fruit and vegetable growers, particularly our tribal and northeast farmers.
"In this budget, by providing a provision of Rs 85,000 crore for Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Classes and Rs 53,700 crore for Scheduled Tribes, the Modi government has shown its sensitivity towards the development of the neglected section of the society and connecting them to the mainstream," he said.
