<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=amazon+india&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Amazon India</a> is going aggressive in the country and in a latest move, it has ventured into <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=online+furniture&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">furniture sales</a>. 
 
The e-<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ecommerce&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">commerce</a> company will be setting up five more <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=warehouses&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">warehouses</a> in India before the end of the current year. 
 “Amazon has just launched its range of furniture products and would set up three out of the five FCs (fulfilment centres) in Tamil Nadu,” said Sumit Sahay, director, category management, <keyword id="6354743" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon-India">Amazon India</keyword>. 
 
The furniture sales option is only open in 20 cities and customers would be able to place orders only if they reside within a certain distance from the seller. 
 
Presently, Amazon has 22 FCs in India. Amazon posted a 250% increase in sales during 2015. "We see the momentum continuing for the rest of the year," Sahay said.

Amazon is on a hiring spree in India and the e-commerce company is looking to get at least 1,000 people onboard. <keyword id="6354743" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="amazon-india">Amazon India</keyword> is mostly looking for software professionals and employees who will fit the bill in research and development for the company's different divisions. Positions are open for research scientists, data analytics, natural language processing (NLP), artificial intelligence machine learning (AIML) and Android developers. Vacancies are in different departments such as Amazon.com, Amazon.in, the devices business, and the cloud computing division Amazon Web Services (AWS). The company told TOI that its hiring was limited only by the availability of talent in the required technologies and it was looking to hire as many as possible. On its website, Amazon states it has 1,245 open positions in India. It has 50,000 people on its rolls in India, which is second largest workforce centre for Amazon after the US. "The numbers are mind boggling. We are looking at a fully functional tech organisation in India and are hiring varied skills across several job families. India is a big focus area for talent globally," Dale Vaz, director of software development at Amazon India, told TOI. AWS, Amazon's most profitable business unit, is looking to hire 195 people in India. Among the open positions, 557 are in Bengaluru, 403 in Hyderabad and 149 in Chennai. "We process a lot of data and are always looking for data processing and profiling engineers," Vaz said.

Moreover, Amazon also poached Jabong's Puneet Gupta to head sales and marketing for fashion, food and grocery. 
 
As per Goldman Sachs, India's ecommerce market is expected to triple to $68.8 billion by fiscal year 2020. 
 
"Amazon is far more experimental in hiring compared to its competitors. Given that (its) processes and global experience are so strong, (the company) can help people from different backgrounds be successful,” Ashish Sanganeria, of executive search firm Longhouse told ET.

<ul><li><keyword id="6354743" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon-India">Amazon India</keyword> has doubled its network and capacity to make deliveries during the Diwali sale.</li><li>The e-commerce giant is bullish on sales for the upcoming festive sales season despite the economic slowdown and e-commerce restrictions.</li><li>Amazon has also opened up three large delivery stations this year in Chennai, Pune and Hyderabad.</li></ul>Amazon India is busy preparing for the upcoming festive season in India— Diwali — which is a traditional bonanza season for all retailers. Despite the economic slowdown plaguing the Indian economy and the restrictions on e-commerce — like limitations on deep discounting — Amazon remains bullish on its outlook for the season. "We have always been excited by Diwali. Every year we have expanded our network. Every year we have been bullish and this year, again, we have been bullish about how customers are going to come and shop with us," Akhil Saxena, the Vice President of Customer Fulfillment at Amazon India told Business Insider. Why Diwali’s a big deal for Amazon The Diwali season is a big deal for Amazon because it’s the biggest festive season of the year. It’s not only a prime time for Amazon sales but also an optimal period for sellers and brands to launch new products, according to the company. "This is a time when a lot of sellers and brands bring in unique selections for customers. This is a time we also have new exclusive launches happen," explained Saxena. Amazon’s ready to take on more orders "We believe that this is going to be the biggest shopping period for Amazon in India," stated Saxena. In anticipation, Amazon India doubled its capacity and network to get products from one end of the country to the other. From 700 delivery stations across 350 cities last year, Amazon’s seller network has now expanded to 1,400 delivery stations across 700 cities. A lot of this expansion has been focused on getting last mile connectivity to some of the more "remote" and "deeper parts" of India — Tier 4 and 5 locations like Anand, Cuddapah, Azamgarh, Kodagu, and Solan. Even fleet trucks that will haul the deliveries from the seller’s city to the customer’s city has been doubled to 10,000 trucks on the road on a daily basis, connecting over 1000 cities, according to the company. For longer distances, Amazon has also increased its air capacity 1.6 times. "We have done this with three objectives in mind. The first one is to widen our reach. Secondly, to provide faster deliver promises. And thirdly, to improve the delivery experience for our customers and sellers," explained Saxena. Amazon’s creating its own footprint Amazon’s delivery network operates through third-party couriers. Only 200 out of the 1,400 delivery stations are owned by Amazon exclusively. But, this year, Amazon has expanded to three large delivery stations — a switch from the company’s usual strategy of investing in smaller delivery stations that are normally between 2,000 to 7,000 square feet. Now it has delivery stations as large as 20,000 square feet in Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune. Amazon India however has many dangers lurking around the corner — not just a dull economy. Flipkart has its Big Billion Days Sale coming up soon. In the long run, Jio is foraying into the e-commerce sector, and has also promised to disrupt it.

The new development is an addition to the $2.5 billion investment Amazon has globally made towards special bonuses and incentives for its teams in the last year, and the overall $11.5 billion investment towards Covid-19-related measures. "Health and safety of our teams and partners continues to be our top priority," Amit Agarwal, Senior Vice President and Country Manager, Amazon India, said in a statement. "We are encouraging eligible individuals to get vaccinated, and will cover the cost of vaccination for our employees, associates, operations partner network, sellers and their eligible dependents to ensure their continued safety." The announcement comes at a time when India is ramping up vaccinations amid a renewed surge in Covid-19 cases. Amazon India supports cost coverage for Covid-19 treatment, hospital search and coverage of prescribed Covid-19 tests. Initiatives have been scaled and evolved to address the prevailing situation. Amazon India to cover the cost of Covid-19 vaccine for 10 lakh people including all its sellers, employees, and associates

<keyword id="6354743" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon-India">Amazon India</keyword> is planning to invest in online food delivery startup <keyword id="6358977" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Swiggy">Swiggy</keyword>, which also got attention from Chinese players like Ele.me that is backed by Alibaba. 
 
However, Amazon India and Swiggy are in initial discussions only and talks may fall apart too. 
 Bengaluru-based Swiggy, which competes with <keyword id="830092" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zomato">Zomato</keyword> and <keyword id="1666592" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Foodpanda">Foodpanda</keyword>, is getting lot of attention from strategic investors as it is fulfilling close to 40,000 orders per day. 
 
As per Morgan Stanley, online penetration in food delivery services was only 2 per cent in India while it was 20-30 per cent in China, the UK and Canada. 
 
"Everyone is talking since they are doing really well but it is not certain that a deal will be closed," sources told ET. 
 
Swiggy was founded by BITS-Pilani alumnus Sriharsha Majety, the CEO, and Rahul Jaimini and Nandan Reddy. 
 
ET reported Swiggy's executives have held three meetings with Amazon's India head Amit Agarwal. 
 
Swiggy has raised about $72 million so far and has investors including, Accel Partners, Norwest Venture Partners and Bessemer Venture Partners. 
 
"There are synergies in hyperlocal cross-utilisation. Amazon will get a big food business and a hyper-local fleet on whose backbone they can grow aggressively in grocery as well," an investor in the hyper-local market told ET. 
 
"For Swiggy, getting a high order density will lead to better utilisation of the hyper-local fleet leading to a sustainable business. After food, the next logical expansion would be grocery and Amazon Now does grocery, so maybe that's the synergy."
