Over 66% people in India subscribe to more than 1 OTT app: Report

The scheme is aimed at supporting the development of improved varieties for increasing the production and quality of tea. Under the scheme, the setting up of 800 self-help groups and 330 farmer-producer organisations (FPO) in the next two financial years (2024-26) has been proposed, Amardeep <keyword id="20865624" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="singh-bhatia" source="keywords">Singh Bhatia</keyword>, Additional Secretary in the <keyword id="19992661" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="department-of-commerce" source="keywords">Department of Commerce</keyword> said, adding that the outlay has been increased from Rs 2.7 crore to Rs 105.5 crore for this purpose. "Outlay for the scheme has been increased by 82 per cent from Rs 290.81 crore to Rs 528.97 crore for the next two financial years (2024-25 and 2025-26)," he told reporters here. He said that a significant increase in outlay has been made to promote Indian Tea in both domestic and international markets. The funds for the promotion of tea have been increased to Rs 72.42 crore. For setting up blending and packaging units for value addition, Bhatia said Rs 40 crore has been allocated. "The objective is to increase exports, especially in value-added segments and consumption of quality tea," he said adding a new component of technological interventions for tea plantation has been included for activities like precision farming, drone surveillance, traceability and blockchain, and digitization of activities of <keyword id="20037006" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tea-board" source="keywords">Tea Board</keyword>. India is the third largest exporter of tea in the world. The exports dipped by over 4 per cent to USD 673 million during April-January this fiscal.

State police jobs, bridge crash courses and skills certificates – to aid careers of Agniveers

The department for promotion of industry and internal trade (<keyword id="19952901" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="DPIIT" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="DPIIT" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="DPIIT">DPIIT</keyword>) on Monday asked <keyword id="19957196" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="white-goods" source="keywords">white goods</keyword> manufacturers to participate in large numbers to avail fiscal benefits under the <keyword id="19952889" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="production-linked-incentive" source="keywords">production linked incentive</keyword> scheme for the sector as the response has been muted so far. Additional Secretary in the DPIIT Rajeev Singh Thakur said that the department has again reopened the application window for the PLI (production linked incentive) scheme for white goods (<keyword id="20360726" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ACs" source="keywords">ACs</keyword> and LED lights). The application window is open from July 15 to October 12. "In the PLI in white goods scheme, somehow the response has been muted. ...Probably due to various reasons not sufficient response has come. So I request (the industry) to have a look and probably this time, you can consider (applying)," Thakur said at the CII Consumer Electronics and Durables Summit 2024 here. So far, 66 applicants with committed investment of Rs 6,962 crore have been selected as beneficiaries under the PLI scheme. The Union Cabinet had given approval for the PLI scheme for white goods for <keyword id="19914449" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="manufacturing" source="keywords">manufacturing</keyword> of components and sub-assemblies of Air Conditioners (ACs) and LED lights on April 7, 2021. The scheme is to be implemented over a seven-year period, from 2021-22 to 2028-29, and has an outlay of Rs 6,238 crore. He added that the department can hold talks with the industry separately on issues like quality control orders and logistics. Thakur told the industry that the time is right to increase investments into the country as the government has enhanced its capex and taken steps to promote <keyword id="19996629" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ease-of-doing-business" source="keywords">ease of doing business</keyword>. The public capex in the last 10 years is growing at a fast pace in areas like highways, expressway, ports, airports and railways, but the commensurate response of the private sector "somehow is not up to the expectation", he said. Earlier speaking at the event, DPIIT Secretary Amardeep Singh Bhatia said that a lot of steps have been taken to promote ease of doing business, cutting down compliance burden and decriminalisation of minor offences. The government has also recently approved 12 industrial townships and the industry can look at investing there. He added that capital availability is not an issue now and the government has also provided protection to the industry from predatory imports. Schemes like PLI and semiconductor mission have been rolled out to promote manufacturing and "now we want the industry" to ensure that they have necessary collaborations in place for technology and investments. The industry should do collaborations not only to target the domestic market but also become part of global value chains. "That is an expectation we are having from the entire industry and I think industry will rise to meet these expectations... We have a huge demographic dividend and the industry should take advantage of this otherwise we will miss it," Bhatia added. He also said that there is no paucity of adequate skilled labour in the country and logistics costs too are coming down. On logistics, he cited examples of Amazon and Flipkart selling goods in the remotest part of the country. "I don't think industry should look at the current domestic demand only for collaborations. They should look at the future and export market also in addition to the domestic market," he said, adding expenditure on research and development is "abysmally" low and that needs to be enhanced. Govt asks white goods industry to apply for manufacturing sops in large numbers

New York, Apr 25 (AP) Federal prosecutors charged a New York retailer with hoarding tons of disposable masks, surgical gowns and hand sanitiser in a Long Island warehouse and selling the items at huge markups.Amardeep "Bobby" Singh (45), was charged with violating the Defense Production Act of 1950 in what authorities described as the first such prosecution during the coronavirus pandemic. Singh is expected to surrender to authorities next week in the case around what is known as personal protective equipment, which has become a hot commodity during the outbreak. Singh's attorney, Bradley Gerstman, called the charges "mostly fiction" and said the complaint misstated his client's costs. "If selling PPE goods is improper or criminal, then a lot of people need to go to jail," Gerstman said in a telephone interview. "The Defense Production Act is wildly vague, and I don't think this would pass muster on any appellate level. I think this statute would be struck down as null and void." The charges come more than a month after President Donald Trump issued an executive order making it illegal to hoard scarce medical supplies or sell personal protective equipment at inflated prices."Singh's amassing of critical personal protective equipment during a public health crisis and reselling at huge markups places him squarely in the cross-hairs of law enforcement armed with the Defense Production Act," Brooklyn US Attorney Richard Donoghue said in a written statement. Singh sells sneakers and apparel at his Plainview store, prosecutors said, but dedicated a new section last month to "COVID-19 Essentials," including N95 masks, face shields, gloves and disinfecting products. In late March and early April, authorities said, Singh stockpiled more than 1.6 tons of disposable masks; 2.2 tons of surgical gowns; 1.8 tons of hand sanitizer and seven shipments of digital thermometers. Records from the store showed he bought the face masks for 7 cents apiece and then resold them for $1 each, prosecutors said. A search of his business and warehouse turned up more than 5,000 face shields, 2,471 full-body isolation suits and 711,400 disposable vinyl gloves, according to court records. Authorities said Singh marketed the products on social media and continued selling them even after he received a cease-and-desist letter from the New York Attorney General's Office, which called his pricing "unconscionably excessive." Singh's stockpiles for now are being held as evidence, but the Federal Emergency Management Agency is "working through the details" of how to reallocate the materials to institutions in need of such equipment, said a law enforcement official familiar with the matter. As yet, it's not a moneymaker in and of itself. He says he did earn some money when TikTok flew him to Spain as part of a marketing campaign for Sony. He's open to other brand deals if big advertisers come knocking. "I've been focusing on my live shows but definitely, if someone does approach me, I'm up for doing it."Dhanjal's wife Pavan also happens to be a TikTok star, and equally alive to the commercial opportunities it offers.<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>Pavan Dhanjal, posting on TikTok as PavanHenna, runs henna bars offering henna art services in the style of a brow bar. Her quickfire videos show henna artists painting patterns on people's hands, neck, and even pregnant bellies.Her main bar is in Selfridges, the upmarket London department store, and she says she often sees TikTok fans visiting the store. What makes TikTok users stand out is that they are younger than the average Selfridges customer."The first time was last summer," Pavan Dhanjal told Business Insider. "I had a young girl come to the henna bar, she was 14 and came with her parents. She had henna done - and said that she followed me on TikTok. And I just thought that was amazing, just to be able to drive customers into the henna bar."<h2>TikTok stars don't earn very much yet, but the company is cultivating them carefully</h2>As its popularity in Western markets has grown, <a href="https://digiday.com/marketing/tiktok-quietly-testing-ads/">TikTok has started playing with pre-roll ads</a>. Scroll past the videos of miming schoolgirls, and ads for casual games and phone wallpapers pop up.Nico Cary, who runs an influencer agency called Influentially, said it's pretty early days and that it's clear TikTok is slowly developing its ad product.For now, he said, TikTok influencers come cheaper than YouTube stars, earning around $2,000 to appear at a brand event and to create content around it.Individual posts come in at about £500. An established YouTuber can earn ten times as much, Cary said. The most influential Instagram stars, celebrities like Kylie Jenner, can earn as much as $1 million per post."There isn't much money in the ecosystem," Cary said. "We have done brand deals with companies that can't command too much budget."Part of the reason is that TikTok is yet to develop sophisticated analytics, which are available to advertisers and influencers on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook. "You can see the high-level engagement of likes, but you want to know the demographics of who's seeing posts," added Cary.He says TikTok cultivates its influencers carefully, not only handpicking them from other platforms but continually talking to them. "They have group chats with influencers," Cary said. "It's different to the other platforms, they're quite involved."TikTok's London office has a team dedicated to keeping on top of pop culture trends and keeping an eye out for new, potentially popular influencers, as well as keeping the current crop of influencers happy.As yet, Business Insider understands there are no immediate plans to offer a YouTube-style partner programme where creators can make money from ads."We are still a relatively young business, we have launched in the UK in August 2018. The free, downloadable app called FlyRights lets travelers instantly send their concerns to the US Transportation Security Administration, which would then respond through its own channels.
Launched ahead of Thanksgiving, one of the busiest travel periods in the United States, the updated "FlyRights 2.0" also allows passengers to send copies of their complaints to their members of Congress, and it features maps that show which airports have the most troubling records.
An initial version of FlyRights has been downloaded 18,000 times since it was launched in April 2012, according to the Sikh Coalition, the advocacy group that released the app.
Amardeep Singh, director of programs at the Sikh Coalition, said that many travelers did not trust the Transportation Security Administration's own response to complaints and called for an independent review of its screening practices.
"Until that happens, we call on the public to hold the <keyword id="62795" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="TSA">TSA</keyword> accountable by downloading and using FlyRights," Singh said.
Singh addressed a news conference that included rights activists for African Americans and people with disabilities, who said that they also found the app useful to address concerns about profiling.
"The rights of every individual deserve to be protected, and they can be protected. And we can be safe without violating the rights of individuals," said Wade Henderson, president of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights.
The Sikh faith, founded five centuries ago in South Asia, requires men to wear turbans and maintain beards. The Sikh Coalition says that some US airports pull aside virtually all Sikh men, stigmatizing them and leading outsiders to associate turbans with danger.
Sikhs in the United States have faced a wave of violence since the September 11, 2001 attacks, with assailants sometimes falsely believing they are radical Muslims. In the worst incident, a white supremacist shot dead six Sikhs after barging into their temple in Wisconsin in August 2012.
Singh said that the Sikh Coalition hoped eventually to expand FlyRights beyond airports to include schools, where Sikh children report widespread bullying, and other areas.
