Naidu made this announcement, addressing a joint meeting of TDP, BJP and Janasena legislators, where he was unanimously elected as NDA leader in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. "In our government, there will be no games under the guise of three capitals. Our capital is Amaravati. Amaravati is the capital," asserted Naidu. As the first chief minister of bifurcated Andhra Pradesh between 2014 and 2019, he had floated the idea of Amaravati as the capital city. However, this brainchild of Naidu suffered a setback in 2019 when the TDP lost power and Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP won a landslide victory. Reddy poured cold water on the <keyword id="3924608" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amaravati-capital" source="Orion">Amaravati capital</keyword> city plans and propounded a new theory of three capitals, which Naidu has now replaced with the decision to have a single capital. The NDA alliance of TDP, BJP and Janasena won a landslide victory in the recently concluded simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections in the state with a brute majority of 164 assembly and 21 Lok Sabha seats. The triumph has breathed new life into the Amaravati capital city project.

Chandrababu Naidu announces Amaravati as sole capital city of Andhra Pradesh

In April 2024, at a public meeting in Tadikonda, he announced that Amaravati is the heart of Andhra Pradesh and if he is voted back to power, he will make sure the city remains its only capital. And true to his word, just before his swearing-in as Chief Minister, Naidu announced that Amaravati would be the one and only capital of the state. Announcing Amaravati as the only capital, new CM Chandrababu Naidu breathes life into Andhra’s dream of a smart capital

In the heart of India's southern landscape, a monumental shift unfolded on June 2, marking a pivotal moment in <keyword id="19896313" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Andhra-Pradesh" source="keywords">Andhra Pradesh</keyword>'s history. Hyderabad bid adieu to its role as the administrative nucleus of Andhra as a tangible consequence of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act of 2014. Presently, the southern state has no capital, a fate that will likely change after the verdict of the <keyword id="21626076" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vidhan-Sabha-elections" source="keywords">Vidhan Sabha elections</keyword> is delivered. Now, trends as confirmed by the Election Commission of India suggest that the TDP-BJP-Jana Sena Party (JSP) coalition is poised to deliver a significant blow to the incumbent <keyword id="19973324" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="YSR-Congress-Party" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="YSR Congress Party" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="YSR Congress Party">YSR Congress Party</keyword> (YSRCP) in both Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha elections. Similarly, in the Lok Sabha election, the NDA triparty alliance has won (or leads) in 21 out of 25 seats. Compared to their impressive vote share of nearly 50% in the 2019 assembly elections, YSRCP is facing a substantial setback, largely attributed to the compelling appeal of the alliance's promise of effective and progressive governance. In 2013, as a product of decades of political fervour and regional aspirations, <keyword id="19909031" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Telangana" source="keywords">Telangana</keyword> became India's newest state. It necessitated the redefinition of Andhra Pradesh's administrative centre. And former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had set his sights on <keyword id="19926152" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amaravati" source="keywords">Amaravati</keyword> as the new capital, envisioning a modern hub of governance. Amaravati, with its promise of modernity and progress, symbolised Naidu's vision for a dynamic Andhra Pradesh. Yet, with the changing of the political guard came a divergence in vision. The unexpected rise of <keyword id="19936253" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jagan-Mohan-Reddy" source="keywords">Jagan Mohan Reddy</keyword> in 2019 ushered in a completely new and audacious vision of <keyword id="21938308" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="three-capitals" source="keywords">three capitals</keyword>! The current CM of Andhra affiliated with the YSR Congress Party revealed his vision of establishing a three-city plan with Visakhapatnam, Amaravati, and Kurnool sharing governance roles. With Visakhapatnam for executive functions, Amaravati for legislative affairs, and Kurnool for judicial matters, this plan reflected a departure from the conventional wisdom of centralised governance. Reddy's vision, born from a desire to uplift all corners of the state, challenged the conventional wisdom that a single capital must bear the burden of governance. It was a bold experiment — one that seeked to rewrite the script of regional development. Yet, amidst the cacophony of political rhetoric and legal battles, the fate of Andhra Pradesh's administrative apparatus hung in a limbo. The High Court's intervention, compelling the state to honour the commitments made by its predecessor, added another layer of complexity to an already convoluted saga. In April 2024, Naidu asserted that should he come to power in Andhra, Amaravati would remain the enduring capital of the state, adding that the city embodied the pride of Telugu people. Speaking at a gathering in Tadikonda, Guntur district, during his Praja Galam public meetings, Naidu stated firmly, "This isn't just Tadikonda; this is Amaravati. I assure you all from this platform that no force can disrupt Amaravati's future. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, JSP president Pawan Kalyan, and I are committed to its development." Naidu also accused YSRC president and Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of commencing his tenure by demolishing the 'Praja Vedika' (Grievance Hall). The 74-year-old legislator pledged to rebuild the Praja Vedika promptly upon regaining power. Meanwhile, the new CM of Andhra already has his work cut out for him. With Hyderabad's departure, a logistical domino effect has ensued — offices, assets, and infrastructure must find new homes. The bureaucratic machinery, once anchored in Hyderabad, now faces the challenge of redefining its locus. The fate of over 55 buildings, prime symbols of administrative authority, lies in the hands of policymakers. The intricate process of bifurcating government corporations, training institutions, and assets demands meticulous planning and foresight. The transition from Hyderabad to a new capital is not just about changing addresses; it's about reimagining governance itself. In the corridors of power, negotiations simmer as Andhra Pradesh and Telangana navigate the delicate dance of asset allocation. The fate of institutions like the Film Development Corporation and the Women's Finance Corporation hangs in the balance, awaiting resolution in the crucible of political negotiation.

Andhra Assembly Election Results 2024: As TDP sweeps AP, dream of Amaravati as the ideal capital gains momentum

Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of <keyword id="37102" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Andhra-Pradesh">Andhra Pradesh</keyword>'s capital <keyword id="261805" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Amaravati">Amaravati</keyword> city in <keyword id="52887" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Guntur">Guntur</keyword> district on Thursday. 

	It will be a mega event and the state government has made elaborate arrangements as around four to five lakh people are likely to attend the function to be held at Uddandarayunipalem village. 
 

	A presentation about the 'past, present and future' of Amaravati, a place of immense historical, mythological and cultural significance will also be shown at the event. 
 

	The state government has send invites to many union and chief ministers, important political leaders from across the country, eminent personalities, top industrialists and also foreign dignitaries for the capital city, which is about 40 km from Vijayawada. 
 Soil and water from 16,000 villages in the state and prominent <keyword id="60798" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="pilgrim">pilgrim</keyword> centres in the country have been brought to the capital region for construction. The idea is to promote a sense of belonging among the people. 

	While the Centre would provide funds for construction Of legislature buildings as per the Andhra Pradesh Re-organisation Act, the state government has plans to set up hubs of sports, entertainment and in other fields to promote economic activity, an official release said.

PM Modi to lay foundation stone of Andhra's new capital Amaravati

After much deliberation, the <keyword id="68188" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Andhra-Pradesh-government">Andhra Pradesh Government</keyword> has finally zeroed in on the city that will constitute its new capital. And the city in question will be called <keyword id="261805" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Amaravati">Amaravati</keyword>! It is basically the region between the two main cities of <keyword id="37103" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Vijayawada">Vijayawada</keyword> and <keyword id="52887" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Guntur">Guntur</keyword> in central <keyword id="37102" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Andhra-Pradesh">Andhra Pradesh</keyword>, the ancient town of Amaravati, on the banks of the Krishna river, which will now be developed into the State’s brand new capital. The overall development is expected to cost the state government Rs 20,000 cr. 
 <keyword id="5269" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Chief-Minister">Chief Minister</keyword> <keyword id="2791609" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Chandrabau-Naidu">Chandrabau Naidu</keyword> pledged that Amaravati will be "the world's best city"; and said that the <keyword id="137578" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Singapore-government">Singapore government</keyword> has already presented him with the first draft of a master plan; based on changes he has sought, the plan will be resubmitted in a few weeks. 
Last year, the region of Telangana was carved out of Andhra Pradesh as India's youngest state; the IT hub of Hyderabad has been designated a shared capital between the neighbouring states till 2024, after which it will belong to Telangana. 
 Amaravati was home to the Satavahana dynasty 2,000 years ago. It is famous for Buddhist sites including a stupa built during Emperor <keyword id="50337" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ashoka">Ashoka</keyword>'s time. Naidu said that the new capital will be blessed by both 'vaastu' and an auspicious name. 
 The development of the new capital will begin with the construction of the <keyword id="209680" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="state-legislature">state legislature</keyword>, the secretariat or headquarters of the government, and a high court, said the Chief Minister. Two major expressways and other multi-lane highways will also be built, which are meant to connect it to important towns and ports including Vizag, Hyderabad, and Bangalore, said government sources. Over a period of time, an international and domestic airport will also be built in the new capital region. 
 But in all the celebration, there is a big cause of worry. The state has a <keyword id="6365485" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="fiscal-deficit">fiscal deficit</keyword> of Rs 18,000 cr, while the estimated cost of construction of the new capital is around Rs 20,000cr. What is more worrisome is that the central government has so far sanctioned only Rs 1500 cr for the purpose. However, what Naidu could take heart from is the centre’s promise to deliver more cash, once it goes through the final master plan.

Andhra, this will be your new capital at Rs 20,000cr!

 The project, in its entirety, will include three phases where, whichever route is chosen, will consist of phase I and phase II. The entire <keyword id="3926428" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="hyperloop-transportation">Hyperloop Transportation</keyword> system will extend to around 700-800 kms that will be integrated into the public transit system.  Aside from probable routes, HTT also put forward the blueprints for the manufacturing complex that they’ll need in order to actually build the tube, capsule and track. According <keyword id="6505428" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="shri-ajay-jain">Shri Ajay Jain</keyword>, the Principal Secretary of <keyword id="6505427" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="energy-infrastructure-and-investment-department">Energy Infrastructure and Investment Department</keyword>, “The proposed capital city Amaravati would house 3.5 million people and create 1.5 million jobs. The plan also proposes 9 theme-based cities within the capital city to serve as the hub of activities serving unique functions and employment generation alsong with complementary functions.” He adds, “To support this requirement, there is a need for sustainable high-quality robust mass transportation system.” Hyperloop seems to be part of the Indian government’s plans. Previously, Hyperloop One, the only company to have presented a working Hyperloop system so far, had also proposed routes and plans for the country. Hyperloop Transportation Technologies recommends two prospective routes in India

IT Services company <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=HCL+Technologies&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">HCL Technologies</a> is now looking forward to setting up one of its largest development centres in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Andhra+Pradesh&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Andhra Pradesh</a>. This move involves an investment of over Rs 1,000 crore. The company is on the verge of signing an agreement with the <keyword id="37102" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Andhra-Pradesh">Andhra Pradesh</keyword> government to build its development centre close to proposed Greenfield capital city <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Amaravati&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Amaravati</a>. 
 One of the officials confirmed that talks with <keyword id="30331" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="HCL-Technologies">HCL Technologies</keyword> are at an advanced stage. "This will be the first large investment by an IT giant to help Chandrababu Naidu's dream to recreate <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Cyberabad&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Cyberabad</a> in residual Andhra Pradesh," he said. 
 "Talks have been on for a while, but there is no official confirmation or sign-off yet," said a person aware of the discussions. The proposed development centre, one of the largest facilities of <keyword id="28126" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="HCL">HCL</keyword> Technologies globally, will come up on over 30 acres of land near <keyword id="261805" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amaravati">Amaravati</keyword> in two phases, where the first phase will take off in a year or so," said another official, requesting anonymity. 
 
For starters, Naidu, who headed undivided Andhra Pradesh as its chief minister during 1995-2004 succeeded in attracting technology giants including <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Microsoft&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Microsoft</a>, Oracle, <keyword id="10875" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IBM">IBM</keyword>, <keyword id="28251" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dell">Dell</keyword>, <keyword id="6358918" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Deloitte">Deloitte</keyword>, Infosys, TCS and <keyword id="10862" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wipro">Wipro</keyword> among others to set up development centres in Hyderabad. 
 
HCL Technologies has been expanding its footprint in tier-2 cities since the past few years. The first phase of a 100-acre IT city in Lucknow, which involves an investment of nearly Rs 1,500 crore, became operational last year. 
 
The investment proposal of HCL Technologies is expected to come up before the ensuing meeting of the state investment promotion board (SIPB) for its approval.

HCL to invest Rs 1,000 crore in setting up development centers in Andhra Pradesh

Not the time to talk about it: TDP chief Chandrababu on joining NDA

If a man is judged by how he treats his enemies, then Andhra Chief Minister Jagan Reddy has a lot to answer for. His opposition leader <keyword id="6354350" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chandrababu-Naidu">Chandrababu Naidu</keyword> and his son are among many leaders of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) placed under house arrest by his government. The current detention aims to prevent a protest rally. But it seems more like the latest crescendo in a political rivalry that spans at least two generations. Naidu alleges that eight of his party members were killed, and many more have been assaulted by the ruling YSR Congress party, led by debutante chief minister Jagan Reddy. “We, as a state, are at the worst possible phase in terms of safety for people. Is there a mechanism to protect people in Andhra? Even as YSRCP kickstarted a welfare center for government employees, another attack took place on our party members in Anantapuram,” Naidu said in a tweet in Telugu on September 6. Reddy dethrones Naidu from his lair In the 100 days that Reddy has ruled the state, a myriad of changes have come in. Jagan cited environmental laws to raze a conference hall in the state capital Amaravati, called Praja Vedika. Though it’s a government property, it was built and extensively used by Naidu and could be termed as his ‘lair’. Reddy found another building which was 'too close to the banks of Krishna river’. This happens to be a palatial home rented by Naidu. His security detail was also rolled back by the state government. Stripped off his power and pride, Naidu decided it was time to go back to the grassroots and accumulate some popular support via a protest march on foot, padyatra. But Reddy wouldn't have any of it. The current chief minister knows that padayatras built glorious political careers--starting from former CM and founder of TDP, N T Rama Rao, and Reddy’s own father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy who was also a former CM, and Jagan himself. Painting his state in his colours Jagan Reddy has been a mystery to many people who know him, and do not. The five feet five inches tall 46-year-old appears to be soft spoken. Yet, he launched a phased and vicious attack on his bête noire, Naidu, without dreading public opinion. Some political pundits even say that Reddy wants to<a href="https://www.firstpost.com/india/arbitrary-decisions-by-ys-jagan-mohan-reddy-in-zeal-to-wipe-out-chandrababu-naidus-legacy-alarm-domestic-foreign-investors-in-andhra-pradesh-7172001.html"> wipe the state</a> clean of Naidu and his party. At the same time, he is literally painting the state in his colours. He has painted the state’s gram panchayats in the white, blue and green colours of his party flag. His deceased father’s photo are displayed prominently. Not all changes heralded by Reddy are cosmetic. He also cancelled the tender for Naidu’s pet project ₹3,200 crore Polavaram hydel power project. But he is keeping poll promises by taking over private liquor business, which is the first step to implement prohibition in the state. Reddy learns from Modi, but can they be friends? Reddy seems too have taken a leaf out of the same book as the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. When Modi stormed to power in New Delhi, he used the momentum to take the <a href="https://caravanmagazine.in/politics/how-amit-shah-helped-modi-sideline-his-political-rivals-in-gujarat">floor from the opposition Congress </a>party, which was at the time, led by political elites well entrenched in the system. Yet, Modi and Reddy are not natural allies. Unlike Modi-led BJP which thrives on Hindu pride Reddy has been a Christian for three generations. Unsurprisingly, Reddy's move to give ₹5,000 per month honorarium to pastors in his state was against BJP's core philosophy and caused disagreement. The state’s BJP machinery has been attacking Reddy on minor matters of faith. Yet, Reddy is playing it safe with the party which is in power at the center. Maybe he does not want to make another bitter enemy of a party ruling at the center. Enemy’s enemy is not yet a friend The Congress party which was ruling in 2013 had cornered Reddy just the way he is targeting Naidu. And, with worse consequences. After his father’s mysterious death caused by a helicopter crash, the Reddy family clashed with the Gandhis of Congress party. Not only did that ensure that he did not get a place in the Congress party where his father belonged, it got him into more trouble. He had later blamed the Gandhis for instigating CBI raids at his home and offices. This culminated in a disproportionate assets case against him which is still in litigation. In fact, he also spent a few months at Chanchalguda jail. In that sense, BJP and YSRCP have a common enemy--the Congress Party. But, Reddy has not shown any inclination to make friends with the BJP. But if he manages to wipe out TDP from the state, then he could ensure that BJP will not dial its former partner Naidu once again. It will ensure that he can enjoy unabated power, which is what people in power always seem to crave for.
