The Ali Abbas Zafar-directed action movie is JioCinema’s first direct-to-OTT film and one of the biggest Bollywood movies to directly get a release on OTT, or over-the-top platform. JioCinema unveiled the trailer of the movie at an event with Kapoor and Zafar. Kapoor, who was recently seen in the popular show <keyword id="2609426" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="farzi" source="Orion">Farzi</keyword> plays the lead role in the movie. In addition to Kapoor, the movie also features Ronit Roy, Diana Penty, Sanjay Kapoor and Rajeev Khandelwal. The much awaited Eid release of the year features Salman as a Haryanvi wrestler. 
 
"The film is doing extra ordinary business across the country. The opening is like hurricane. Everyone is loving it, be it the story, the songs and Salman of course is a treat to watch in 'Sultan'," distributor Akshay Rathi told PTI. 
 
"The film is doing exceptionally well in North India like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab," he said. 
 
"Today I think it will collect Rs 35 crore. Tomorrow is Eid and then Tomorrow is Eid and then there is extended weekend so it will be somewhere around Rs 130-150 crore," he added. 
 
Another film distributor, Rajesh Thadani said, "The film has opened really well as expected. It will make record breaking collection in its weekend which will be around Rs 150 crore." 
 Both Rathi and Thadani feel even though "Sultan" leaked online, it will not affect the business of the "<keyword id="94964" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dabangg">Dabangg</keyword>" star's film. 
 
Manoj Desai, executive director, Gaiety Galaxy and Maratha Mandir Cinema, says the audience's reactions to the film have been electrifying, but noted that as Eid is tomorrow, the collections have been affected. 
 
"The word-of-mouth for the film is exceptional. Our 1000-seater theatres are almost full, people are clapping and whistling. But since Eid is tomorrow, it has affected the business. Other than that, everything is going great for the film," Desai said. 
 
The Ali Abbas Zafar-directed film has opened well at single screens and multiplexes, with ticket pricing at Desai's theatre properties being at Rs 100-120, while that at the multiplexes it ranges anywhere from Rs 300 to above Rs 500.

He said that most of the fights in the film are real, shot without cables and with real wrestlers. 
 
"When Ali narrated the story to me, I thought I'll be able to do it. But then while shooting, I noticed that there were real wrestlers opposite me and not fighters. Most of the shots in the film are real with wrestlers and Mixed Martial Arts. There are no cables and because of them, there is lot of contact happening in the film. When they lift you and put you on the ground, it used to hurt. They were of 120-130 kilos," Salman said at the trailer launch of <keyword id="6355056" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sultan">Sultan</keyword>. 
 
"They expect you to pick them up and throw them down. That was the most difficult part. When a wrestler trains you, he trains for two or three hours and then two or three hours again in the evening. After that, training for MMA and shooting every day non-stop for six or seven hours, fighting non-stop was really difficult. So those six hours amidst lights and training used to take a toll on me," he added. 
 
The actor plays the titular role in the film, a wrestler, who wins the gold medal for India in wrestling. But in a certain turn of events which are somewhat not clear, Sultan quits wrestling only to revive after a sabbatical, when age and an unfit body are hurdles in front of him. At that time he is coached by Randeep Hooda in MMA and reaches the big stage. 
 
When asked if his role is inspired from a real-life character, Khan was quick to reply. 
 
 
"No, it's not from anywhere. This is from his (Ali Abbas Zafar) mind. It is the story of an underdog," he said. 
 
Sultan will release on Eid.

Now that one phase of the shooting is over, it was the request of the script for our Sultan to let go of his moustache, to which the actor gladly obliged.

But if you are expecting a movie featuring <keyword id="6354925" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kolkata">Kolkata</keyword> in the troubled 70s or a big-time gangster flick that reveals a human core, it will be better to skip <keyword id="6427325" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gunday">Gunday</keyword>. Directed by <keyword id="6368814" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ali-Abbas-Zafar">Ali Abbas Zafar</keyword>, this gun-goon-and-gal flick has loads of twists and turns, follows a long-winded <keyword id="1097560" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="storyline">storyline</keyword> and stars big names including <keyword id="106133" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ranveer-Singh">Ranveer Singh</keyword>, <keyword id="114453" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Arjun-Kapoor">Arjun Kapoor</keyword>, <keyword id="1655" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Priyanka-Chopra">Priyanka Chopra</keyword> and <keyword id="16207" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Irrfan-Khan">Irrfan Khan</keyword>. But that’s where its claim to fame should end unless you are ready to ogle some brawn and oomph, a pseudo-historical account of the times and a glimpse of the City of Joy as the background. 
 
Gunday was released on the Valentine’s Day (February 14) and tries hard to explore the <keyword id="1541122" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="bromance">bromance</keyword> between the male leads – the <keyword id="1739443" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="outlaw">outlaw</keyword> duo of <keyword id="19013" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="bikram">Bikram</keyword> (Ranveer) and <keyword id="17684" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bala">Bala</keyword> (Arjun). While that is commendable to some extent, the contrived love triangle involving Priyanka (<keyword id="70837" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nandita">Nandita</keyword>) looks scarcely convincing and her main utility seems to be getting the eyeballs. 
 
Yet, the movie has done fairly well at the box office, netting around Rs 43.93 crore at home after the first weekend. Gunday has, however, failed to race past another action thriller, Salman-starrer <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Jai-Ho-Salman-FightsThrough-Clichs-Fails-To-Create-A-Dhoom/articleshow/29505187.cms">Jai Ho</a>, which earned around Rs 60 crore in the debut weekend. Overseas collections of Gunday stood at $2.16 million gross. But there was a drop in collection on the crucial Day 4 (February 17) and the movie netted around Rs 6.5 crore as per industry estimates. Still, we are seeing some steady traction and Gunday may soon enter the coveted Rs <keyword id="6567206" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="100-crore-club">100 crore club</keyword>. The flick, made on an approximate budget of Rs 50 crore including promotions, has reportedly hit over 2,000 screens across India. 
 
Coming back to the story, let’s have a close look at what makes Gunday kind of unpalatable. Interestingly, <keyword id="2217" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Big-B">Big B</keyword>, who had watched the film at its Mumbai premiere, told the media that it’s “an adrenaline-packed movie.” That’s true and Gunday tries to capture the saga of angry young men who get on the wrong side of the law on their way to a glamorised life of crime. Does it remind you of Deewaar? The broad <keyword id="50138" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Theme">theme</keyword> of Gunday is not unlike that old classic but then, everything else has gone awry – be it storyline, acting, periodicity or dialogues. 
 For one, the entire journey of Bikram and Bala looks patchy. The movie fails to give us a realistic version of the metamorphosis they have undergone – from orphan kids (migrants from <keyword id="6354759" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bangladesh">Bangladesh</keyword>) to big-time coal mafias who are always on the run from the law. But in doing so, Ranveer-Arjun display loads of bromance; get involved in <keyword id="2065117" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shirtless-fights">shirtless fights</keyword> à la <keyword id="6354583" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Salman-Khan">Salman Khan</keyword>, and show off their biceps &amp; waxed 6-packs (imagine that in the 70s) quite unabashed. Are they the new <keyword id="2065120" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Male-eye-candy">male eye candy</keyword>, we wonder? But more than that, they are the brainless brawn type who can be easily trapped by the cops. 
 The duo duly falls in love with the <keyword id="2065114" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="gorgeous-cabaret-dancer">gorgeous cabaret dancer</keyword> Nandita (Priyanka Chopra) who obviously can’t be what she seems. So she turns out to be an <keyword id="2065123" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Undercover-police">undercover police</keyword> officer, in league with <keyword id="2065121" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="ACP-Satyajeet-Sarkar">ACP Satyajeet Sarkar</keyword> (Irrfan Khan). A look at Nandita’s get-up makes us wonder whether Kolkata had ever seen such flamboyant fashion trends during that period. Still, Priyanka is playing the role of a seductress and <keyword id="77110" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Undercover-agent">undercover agent</keyword>. So she must look lethal, even when she is clad in the traditional saree. In contrast, Irrfan does a commendable job and does the voiceover, too. 
 What you may love about this movie is the easy-flowing chemistry between Ranveer and Arjun, some good punch lines and Irrfan’s great acting. But the flick falls flat by the end as clichés abound and not even the suspense ending can save it. Protagonists/anti-heroes of this sort can attain a different height if the storyline and the characters are handled with subtlety and sensitiveness. But <keyword id="303" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Director">director</keyword> Ali Abbas Zafar gives as something as crass and over-the-top as his earlier movie, <keyword id="440305" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mere-brother-ki-Dulhan">Mere Brother Ki Dulhan</keyword>. And the outcome? As Mohar Basu of Koimoi says, it’s a “sexy show gone dull.” All because talented actors are made to struggle to find their rhythm in a cliché-laden <keyword id="6371619" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="plot">plot</keyword>.

The two films were earlier scheduled to be make their debuts in theatres on April 10 but as the festival of <keyword id="20481267" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Eid" source="keywords">Eid</keyword> will be celebrated on April 11, the makers decided to shift the release. Akshay and Tiger shared the news of their film's new release on their respective Instagram pages on Monday evening. "Bade aur Chote aur poori 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan' ki team ki taraf se aap sab ko advance mein Eid Mubarak. Dekhiye #BadeMiyanChoteMiyan on Eid with your entire family, now releasing on 11th April only in cinemas," read the post on Akshay's page. "Bade Miyan Chote Miyan" is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar of "Sultan" and "Bharat" fame, and produced by Pooja Entertainment in association with AAZ. The film, which also stars Prithiviraj Sukumaran, Manushi Chhillar and Alaya F, will see Akshay and Tiger perform death-defying stunts as they play two elite soldiers who embark on a mission to recover a stolen AI weapon. Mumbai, May 6 () Actor Amyra Dastur believes cinema is going to be transformed in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic with the digital space opening up in a big way. Amyra said the lockdown, which has led to the closing of cinemas and a postponement of shoots, also resulted in some of her projects getting pushed."I'm excited to see how cinema is going to transform and how the OTT platform is going to blow up bigger than ever. Luckily I'm not a newcomer so getting work isn't a concern. It is about quality and I believe only quality and not a last name will prevail. "Theatres will need a good six-eight months to have full houses again and in that time viewership on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hotstar, Alt Balaji, Voot among others will grow... Finally, content is going to overshadow the box office, so it's an exciting time at the moment," the actor told .Before the lockdown was announced in March, the actor had T-Series' murder mystery "Koi Jaane Na" co-starring Kunal Kapoor up for release in June, but that stands pushed."We wrapped up shoot in the second week of February but that's been postponed due to the lockdown and our inability to get out and promote, as well as the fact that the industry doesn't know when the theatres are going to be able to open up to the public," Amyra said.She was also shooting for Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's production, "Dongri To Dubai", a web series adapted from author Hussain Zaidi's book of the same name and Tamil film "Bagheera" with Prabhudeva, all of which came to a halt.Her other project, filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar's Amazon Prime Original "Tandav" is currently on the editing stage.The actor said she was supposed to fly to Chennai for a shoot on March 23, but it got postponed as the makers wanted to see what Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement would be a day later."I'm glad it was postponed because I would have been in lockdown alone in Chennai.
