India, the home of innovative minds, is now bringing <keyword id="1021589" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIT-graduates">IIT graduates</keyword> under one umbrella where they’ll educate needy students, those who want to study in top educational institutes. This is an initiative by <keyword id="39440" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="avanti">Avanti</keyword>, a for-profit venture backed by the Michael &amp; <keyword id="867407" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Susan-Dell-Foundation">Susan Dell Foundation</keyword> and the Pearson Affordable Learning Fund. The award-winning social enterprise was established by IIT alumnus in 2010 and is currently having eighty full time teachers with around 300 volunteers and support of over 1,200 high-school students across the country. 
 
Most of the people working at Avanti are IIT graduates and are earning about one-fourth of what they would have got in any multi-national. But, the job satisfaction is more than enough to make-up for that. 
 Avanti president and co-founder, <keyword id="258061" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Akshay-Saxena">Akshay Saxena</keyword>, an IIT Bombay alumnus feels that the best part is that they are attracting the India’s best undergraduates for the cause. Saxena said, "All of our recruits have a passion for teaching but what's most exciting for our team is that we're working towards re-imagining education and creating an alternate model that uses technology to deliver quality through process." 
 
A report published in Economic Times says that after turning up into a for-profit organization in 2012, it opened centers in Mumbai, Delhi, Kanpur, Chennai and is still expanding. Besides the IITs, it has also hired graduates from the National Institutes of Technology and St Stephen's in Delhi. 
 
Prachi Windlass, director of education, India, Michael &amp; Susan Dell Foundation says that the biggest attraction, she believes is the draw for high-quality talent; for example IIT alumnus sense Avanti’s social mission, and a performance-based culture for achieving that mission. 
 
Admission into a top engineering college is a life-transforming experience, and who understands that better than young graduates." 
 
What makes Avanti different from other platforms is its coaching model that helped 18 students from Hindi-speaking, low-income backgrounds get into top engineering colleges this year. The two-year program costs these candidates a total of Rs25,000-35,000 for one whole year, one-third of what other coaching institutes charge. Of the 102 Avanti students who wrote the IIT Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) this year, 57 went through to the next stage with 18 clearing JEE Advanced.

Education start-ups in India seem to be the hottest targets right now, going by the kind of <keyword id="6357455" type="EVENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Funding">funding</keyword> they are attracting from local and global investors. Two more <keyword id="6365770" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="angel-investors">angel investors</keyword> also took part in the round. Avanti will use the <keyword id="1974977" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Seed-round">seed round</keyword> to develop an <keyword id="1974975" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Online-offline-learning">online-offline learning</keyword> &amp; monitoring system, create more <keyword id="755302" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="educational-content">educational content</keyword> and build new <keyword id="68244" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Learning-centres">learning centres</keyword>. Currently, the <keyword id="1044076" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="education-start-up">education start-up</keyword> operates stand-alone and in-school centres in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kanpur, Roorkee and Puducherry, besides helping the <keyword id="3216" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="students">students</keyword> in three Tibetan schools in Uttarakhand and Karnataka. 
 
This is the second investment in India that Pearson has made through PALF, and the third overall since the fund was launched in July 2012. 
 In November this year, <keyword id="1954793" type="POSITION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Global-education-leader">Global education leader</keyword> Pearson’s inaugural <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/These-2-Peer-selected-Start-upsShared-150K-Investment-To-Boost-Low-cost-Education/articleshow/26512179.cms">edupreneur programme</a>, jointly launched by PALF and US-based investor Village Capital, came to a close with <keyword id="1954794" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Experifun">Experifun</keyword> and <keyword id="1467859" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sudiksha-Knowledge-Solutions">Sudiksha Knowledge Solutions</keyword> walking off with a seed funding of $75,000 each. The <keyword id="6362476" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="investments">investments</keyword> will enable the start-ups to further develop their low-cost education ventures and assist underprivileged school children. 
 Pearson launched PALF in July 2012 with a capital of $15 million. Investments are made into private companies that offer <keyword id="1974987" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Affordable-educational-services">affordable educational services</keyword> and schooling in Asia, <keyword id="12925" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Africa">Africa</keyword> and Latin America. 
 Set up as a <keyword id="456748" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="non-profit">non-profit</keyword> in March 2010 by <keyword id="258061" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Akshay-Saxena">Akshay Saxena</keyword> and <keyword id="1974967" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Krishna-Ramkumar">Krishna Ramkumar</keyword>, Avanti Learning Centres supports students from low-income families (those with a family income of $5,000 per annum or below) and prepares them for <keyword id="1974989" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="College-entrance-exams">college entrance exams</keyword>, especially the highly competitive engineering and medical entrance tests. Students can study up to 18 hours a week at a centre and need to pay only $20 per month. The company will be expanding its 400,000 square feet space by another 180,000 sft. “In line with our vision to transform the way India buys and sells, we have been consistently investing in our infrastructure and delivery network, so we can increase our speed of delivery and provide a superior experience to both – customers and sellers,” said Akhil Saxena, Vice President, Customer Fulfilment - Asia, Amazon. Amazon holds 30% of the market share in Indian e-commerce industry. It has been ramping up its operations to grow its market further. In Telangana alone, Amazon has three fulfillment centres. In June it had also launched its largest delivery station in the state, spreading over 20,000 square feet. Across the country, Amazon now has more than 60 FCs with over 20 million cubic storage space. The expansion of FCs in India seems to be aligned with Amazon’s plan to have faster deliveries. In an earlier conversation with Business Insider, Akshay Sahi, Director &amp; Head of Prime, <keyword id="6354743" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon-India">Amazon India</keyword>, said that they are looking to expand their options for same day deliveries, to more cities. "We are optimistic people and we have another five to six months to go from now and hopefully situation will be normal (by then). That's the expectation. Usually, these films are slated for a date when festival is around and we thought it will be prudent to work towards that date," he added. "Sooryavanshi" is the third film in Shetty's cop universe after Ajay Devgn's "Singham" and Ranveer-starrer "Simmba". The film is presented by Reliance Entertainment and produced by Rohit Shetty Picturez in association with Dharma Productions and Cape of Good Films. "'83", which chronicles India's first World Cup win under the captaincy of Kapil Dev in 1983, also stars Hardy Sandhu, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiva, Saqib Saleem, Pankaj Tripathi and Deepika Padukone. The film is produced by Khan, Madhu Mantena, Vishnu Induri and presented by Reliance Entertainment. "Sooryavanshi" and ''83" are the first two big films two have officially announce the theatrical release date as the country recovers from the pandemic, which has led to many star-studded projects opting for a direct-to-digital release. Shoojit Sircar's "Gulabo Sitabo", featuring megastar Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana, was the first big Hindi movie to release on a streaming platform. Vidya Balan-led "Shakuntala Devi", Janhvi Kapoor's "Gunjan Saxena - The Kargil Girl", and actor Sushant Singh Rajput's last film "Dil Bechara" are all headed for direct-to-digital release. On Monday it was announced that Akshay's "Laxmmi Bomb", "Sadak 2", featuring Alia Bhatt, Devgn and Sanjay Dutt-starrer "Bhuj: The Pride of India", Abhishek Bachchan's "The Big Bull", Vidyut Jammwal's "Khuda Haafiz" and "Lootcase", featuring Kunal Kemmu and Rasika Dugal, are all set to premiere on streaming platform Disney+ Hotstar. During a virtual press conference, Akshay had said though he is "excited" about releasing "Laxmmi Bomb" on the OTT platform, he feels "sad" that people won't be able to watch the movie in theatres. "To be honest, today I am excited for this platform. But yes, I'll say that I am also sad for theatres. After all, movies are theatres first birth right. But in the current situation, everyone's safety is of utmost priority. "Today with theatres being shut and people watching movies on OTT platforms, if I can make my fans happy by releasing film on Disney+ Hotstar, which is a big platform with a massive reach, then I am glad," Akshay told reporters. The decision to put out the films on streaming services was not welcomed by many cinema chain owners, but the announcement of theatrical release of "Sooryavanshi" and "'83" has come as a relief. Akshay Kumar's Sooryavanshi and Ranveer Singh's 83 won't go for digital release, will head for theatres end of the year

By Justin Rao and Komal Panchamatia Mumbai, May 12 () Big ticket releases such as Amitabh Bachchan's "Gulabo Sitabo" may bypass theatres and premiere directly on digital platforms, being seen as a potential saviour for the film industry in a year marred by the COVID-19 pandemic and uncertainty over when cinemas will open.Faced with the question of going "direct to digital" or waiting for theatres to open after the situation improves, many filmmakers and production houses are exploring the option of heading to streaming platforms, industry insiders said.Shoojit Sircar's Amitabh-Ayushman Khurrana starrer "Gulabo Sitabo", Anu Menon's eponymous biopic on math genius Shakuntala Devi, with Vidya Balan in the title role, as well as "Chehre", another Amitabh film, are among the films likely to be released soon on a streaming platform."The deal of releasing 'Gulabo Sitabo', a quirky comedy set in Lucknow, and 'Shakuntala Devi' on Amazon Prime Video has been locked. The official announcement for both the films is most likely to be made this week," a source close to the streamer told .Ronnie Lahiri, producer on "Gulabo Sitabo", neither confirmed nor denied reports when reached out to him but asked journalists to wait for an official statement.An insider on the team of "Shakuntala Devi" also did not comment about the film's digital release."Chehre" producer Anand Pandit said a digital release was under consideration."Given how the lockdown is panning out, a digital release for 'Chehre' is being mulled," Pandit said, adding they would wait till the first week of June to take a final call.India has been under lockdown since March 25 to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.The one official announcement was the release of Nawazuddin Siddiqui's film "Ghoomketu", which streamed on ZEE5 last week. Most other plans are shrouded in secrecy with officials reluctant to come on record. But the list of 2020 films which will be released on streaming platforms is long, said insiders. Top on the list is "Laxmmi Bomb", featuring Akshay Kumar and backed by Fox Star Studios, which has reportedly been picked up by the recently launched service Disney+Hotstar. However, Hotstar representatives maintained a "no comment" stance as did producer Tusshar Kapoor.The movie, directed by Raghava Lawrence, was scheduled to be released on May 22 in theatres. That is unlikely to happen with no signs of cinema theatres opening even if the lockdown ends.The other 2020 releases -- Varun Dhawan-starrer "Coolie No 1", "Jhund" with Bachchan and Jahnvi Kapoor's "Gunjan Saxena" -- are also likely to head to different OTT platforms.Kiara Advani-starrer "Indoo Ki Jawani", co-produced by Nikkhil Advani and Bhushan Kumar, is also reportedly looking for a digital release.However, Advani said the film is currently being edited "despite physical constraints" and the team is optimistic it will be ready "very soon"."We are exploring all possible avenues. Nothing stands confirmed or committed. As soon as we are clear about the way ahead, we will make a statement," he said.Bhushan's T-Series' has two other films, "Ludo" and "Jhund".While questions sent to Bhushan on the slate of his films were left unanswered, a source from the production house confirmed that T-Series is planning to release its films digitally and talks are currently on.There are also some producers who want to wait it out.Producer Jackky Bhagnani, who was looking forward to the theatrical release of "Coolie No 1" on May 1, said he is not thinking about films right now. "Let us overcome this crisis and we will announce in happier times," Bhagnani said when asked about whether he was looking at releasing the film digitally.Reliance Entertainment said it will wait to release two of this year's most awaited films – Akshay starrer "Sooryavanshi" with "83", fronted by Ranveer Singh. The team will wait for the lockdown to be lifted and release these movies in theatres."We will first complete the film then we will wait. If six or nine months down the line the situation becomes much worse we will take a call at that time. There is no hurry.
