<ul><li>Yet another act of violence breaks at the campus on Sunday evening where <keyword id="8526259" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="masked-goons">masked goons</keyword> enter the campus, attacking students and teachers with wooden and metal rods. </li><li>Nearly 50 masked goons — allegedly from ABVP ( <keyword id="106559" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Akhil-Bharatiya-Vidyarthi-Parishad">Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad</keyword>) — entered the premises vandalising property and injuring students staying in the hostel. </li><li>As of now, nearly 50 students have been admitted to AIIMS, along with a few teachers. </li><li>Several political leaders urge the government to take action and monitor the situation.</li></ul>Yet another act of violence broke out at breaks at the India’s premier central university — Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus on Sunday evening. Masked goons had entered the campus, attacking students and teachers with wooden and metal rods. The situation in the university was tense for the last few months over a hostel fee hike. It had aggravated as students too participated in Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests. “Masked miscreants armed with sticks are roaming around, damaging property and attacking people,” said JNU registrar.

Difference of opinions has led to three members of the <keyword id="6356383" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="JNU">JNU</keyword> unit of <keyword id="106559" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Akhil-Bharatiya-Vidyarthi-Parishad">Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad</keyword> (<keyword id="6361618" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="ABVP">ABVP</keyword>) resigning from the student council. 
 
These differences have come in light after the recent JNU incident that has attracted attention from scholars worldwide. The names of these members are Pradeep, who was the joint secretary of ABVP-JNU, Rahul Yadav, the president and Ankit Hans, the secretary of ABVP's unit in the School of Social Sciences. 
 
All three of them have expressed their grief over the way the central government has handled the Rohith Vemula incident. 
 The trio has objected to the government's handling of the recent incident in which JNU student union president <keyword id="3048656" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kanhaiya-Kumar">Kanhaiya Kumar</keyword> was arrested following some anti-India slogans that were raised in a meeting that he was headed. 
 
"Whosoever responsible for the act must be punished as per the law but the way NDA government [is] tackling the whole issue, the oppression on professors, repeated lawyer attacks on media and Kanhaiya Kumar on court premises is unjustifiable and we think there is a difference between interrogation and crushing ideology and branding entire Left as "anti-national," said the statement. 
 
The three students maintained "veiled persons" had "shouted slogans Bharat tere tukadde honge" at the "event organized by former DSU persons" but did not mention any name. They not only condemned the sloganeering, but also the "media trial which has culminated in anti-JNU sentiments throughout the country." 
 
"We can't be the mouthpiece of such a government which has unleashed oppression on the student community." They have also slammed BJP MLA O P Sharma's action, equating it with "right-wing fascist forces". "Every day we see people assembling at the front gate with Indian flag to beat JNU students, well this is hooliganism not nationalism, you can't do anything in the name of nation, there is a difference between nationalism and hooliganism," the statement said.

Three ABVP-JNU members resign citing difference of opinions

The <keyword id="982450" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jawaharlal-nehru-university-students-union" source="Orion">Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union</keyword> (<keyword id="346405" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jnusu" source="Orion">JNUSU</keyword>) has elected its first <keyword id="4774036" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dalit-president" source="Orion">Dalit president</keyword> from the Left-backed groups after nearly three decades. The <keyword id="21077262" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="united-left-panel" source="Orion">United Left panel</keyword> on Sunday effected a clean sweep in the JNUSU elections, defeating its nearest rival the <keyword id="6884609" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rss-affiliated-abvp" source="Orion">RSS-affiliated ABVP</keyword>. In the polls that were held after a hiatus of four years, Dhananjay from the All India Students' Association (AISA) won the JNUSU president's post by securing 2,598 votes against the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad's (ABVP) Umesh C Ajmeera, who secured 1,676 votes. Dhananjay hails from Gaya, Bihar and is the first Dalit president from the Left after Batti Lal Bairwa, who was elected in 1996-97. Speaking to PTI after the win, Dhananjay said, "This victory is a referendum by the students of JNU that they reject the politics of hate and violence. The students have once again shown their trust in us. We will continue to fight for their rights and work on issues that concern students. "The safety of women on campus, fund cuts, scholarship hike, infrastructural and water crisis are among the top priorities of the students' union to begin with," he added. Amid cries of 'Lal Salaam' and 'Jai Bhim', the winning students were hailed by their supporters, who waved red, white and blue flags to celebrate. Avijit Ghosh from the Students' Federation of India (SFI) defeated ABVP's Deepika Sharma by 927 votes to win the vice-president's post. Ghosh received 2,409 votes as against Sharma's 1,482. Birsa Ambedkar Phule Students' Association (BAPSA) candidate Priyanshi Arya, who was supported by the Left, won the general secretary's post by defeating ABVP's Arjun Anand by 926 votes. Arya got 2,887 votes while Anand received 1,961. The United Left extended its support to Arya after the Election Committee cancelled the nomination of its candidate Swati Singh when her candidacy was challenged by the ABVP. The Left's Mohammad Sajid won the joint secretary's post by defeating ABVP's Govind Dangi by 508 votes - the lowest victory margin among all the four winners. With the Left panel sweeping the polls, the JNU lived up to its reputation of being a Left bastion. The ABVP gave a neck-and-neck fight and was leading on all four central panel posts in the initial trends. The United Left panel comprises AISA, Democratic Students' Federation (DSF), Students' Federation of India (SFI) and the All India Students' Federation (AISF). Nineteen candidates were vying for positions on the JNUSU central panel and 42 for school counsellors, with eight contenders in the fray for the prestigious role of president. The central panel consists of president, vice president, joint secretary and general secretary. The JNUSU polls on Friday witnessed a voter turnout of 73 per cent, the highest in the last 12 years.

She is pursuing MPhil/PhD from the School of International Relations. </li><li>She has been at the forefront of several protests including the anti-CAA protests in New Delhi. </li></ul>On January 5, Aishe Ghosh, the president of JNU Students Union was brutally injured after several masked individuals thrashed students and teachers inside the campus with wooden and metal rods. She was among the 20 other students who suffered severe injuries in the violence. Who knows, even I may be beaten up tomorrow," Ghosh's father said, hours after his daughter was beaten up inside the varsity campus.  Ghosh, who belongs to Student Federation of India (SFI), became the JNUSU in September 2019. She won with 2,313 votes of the total 5,728 votes. Before Ghosh, SFI didn’t have a <keyword id="4145949" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="JNUSU-president">JNUSU president</keyword> for 13 years. Her agenda after becoming the president was to ensure that the union isn’t dissolved. Also, she wanted to continue to protest against fee hikes, hostel shortage and other problems.

 Before enrolling herself into JNU, Ghosh did her undergraduate in Political Science from Delhi University. She joined JNU to pursue her Master’s degree in International Relations. She was also elected as the councillor for School of International Studies for two terms. "ABVP members have been brutally attacked by students affiliated to Left student organisations — SFI, AISA and DSF. Around 25 students have been seriously injured in this attack and there is no information about the whereabouts of 11 students. Many ABVP members are being attacked in hostels and hostels are being vandalised by the Leftist goons," <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/india/story/jnu-violence-abvp-claims-innocence-accuses-jnusu-left-of-attacking-25-abvp-activists-1634184-2020-01-05">claimed Durgesh Kumar, president ABVP JNU, in a statement.</a> However, Ghosh who is affiliated with SFI, is one of those injured during the Sunday attack. She was admitted to AIIMS hospital yesterday but discharged later.
